As a vietnamese person. Back to the old days we were too poor to buy milk so we had to use egg to replace. That's the main reason this kind of drink was made
for everyone out there: you can do this with hot chocolate and it's awesome too. and I think - in Vietnam, they dont put the coffee in hot water to cook the egg, its just to keep the coffee warm, because here in Vietnam winter we dont have heaters (the drink is supposed to be a winter drink as it's hot), so the coffee could cool off really fast. And me --personally, I prefer drinking it without stiring/mixing the egg with coffee - I think many people here in Vietnam also do that, you can try!
I told my friend as a joke that I sometimes put an egg in my coffee.... then I went to google to see if someone actually does that, so I found this and tried it. Amazing !
I remember my last day in hanoi.. I had been there for a few days and none of the places we went to had it. After a $3 bottle of hanoi vodka, and a quick stop on one of the bench presses surrounding hoan kiem lake, I finally found a hidden place in the old quarter that sold this fine beverage. I am going to wake up and make this exactly as described. Thanks for sharing!
I have never seen a cookery video being made so perfectly. The recipe is fantastic, but the way how everything is so clearly presented is marvellous. Cheers!
+Rabiye Bademli - I think everyone I've spoken with that has tried it in Vietnam has had rave reviews. It's such an unexpectedly indulgent treat. Thanks for your kind comments and thanks for watching!
I guess I was lucky that the people I was with in Ho Chi Minh City this year had heard of it. Took me to a wonderful little cafe that served it. It was so good. I make it once a month for myself now. It's rich, but so damn good.
I was in Hanoi and saw "egg coffee" on the menu. After asking if they were serious, and if they really used actual eggs, I gave it a whirl. It was so amazing I ordered another immediately after finishing the first. Word of warning: It is more like a coffee dessert than a coffee, though. More of an alternative to a hot chocolate than a coffee. So if what you want is a coffee, rather than a dessert, then you're probably best ordering a coffee.
Awee man I missed out! I just tried a recipe from another Channel. I was a little surprised and disappointed. I came back to do a review and saw this video. Now I know where I went wrong. My coffee had cooled down to begin with and I didn't know that it needed to sit for 30 seconds. Plus I love adding a little bit more coffee on top. That's very tiramisu! Needless to say putting the egg mixture onto cooled coffee and drinking it right away had the egg mixture very thick. I had to Stir It Up and still struggled to get that right mix of coffee and cream. Still tasty. Now I don't have to experiment to figure out how to thin it out! I also love the idea of adding vanilla. Otherwise the mixture is a little Bland but still amazing! Now I'm excited to try it again tomorrow thank you 😄
I just got back from a trip to Hanoi where I visited Giang cafe - the official spot for this. It was so delicious and I'm looking forward to trying out this recipe at home.
i made it and my god what a good and delicious coffee, i used moka coffee instead and a chocolate truffle perfumed coffee it was just amazing i will definitely try with other coffees
Wow I'm vietnamese and have never heard of this, I always thought it was just cafe sua hot or cold. I was just in vietnam a few weeks ago and just drank coffee with condense milk, man I wish I knew about this and ordered one just to try.
+Larry O - Now you'll know next time you visit again :) Or try it at home, it's quite delicious. Very rich and sweet, but amazing. Thanks for watching!
This coffee is very famous in Hanoi Old Quarter in Vietnam. It is called "Cà phê trứng". Next time visiting Vietnam you can find it in Cà phê Giảng, 39 Nguyễn Hữu Huân St. or Cà phê Đinh, 13 Đinh Tiên Hoàng St. Both of them are very near Hoàn Kiếm lake.
Oh how delicious! I got the egg part to be foamy the 2nd time around. I made it with mild coffee. Still good though. I like your tutorial best. Thank you for sharing.
I really like your videos! You go really into details to avoid any imperfection or failure. You are someone that knows that the magic of a good end product is in the details. Thanks for the video -- I just subscribed to your channel. Keep up the good work!! Greetings from Zurich, Switzerland.
+sherlyc1978 - Thank you so much for your kind comments. I make A LOT of mistakes when I'm testing these recipes, so I try to include all the details needed so that viewers don't have to do the same :) Thank you so much for your lovely words, and for subscribing. I really appreciate it!
it remind me to "kopi talua" (literally translated as "egg coffee") from west sumatra. one of my friend introduce me to this coffee. it's quite a surprise, even though they put beaten raw egg yolk into it, I didn't smell egg at all. not only coffee, they put egg to tea too, it would be called "teh talua" (egg tea). both of them use sugar and condensed milk.
Got inspired and made my own! Well with some modifications 😂... 1 egg yoke, honey, unsulphored blackstrap molasses, splash of milk... and I put a small bit of butter in the coffee b/c I'm a fan of bulletproof coffee). Didn't come out like the actual thing but it was really good 😊.
really like the idea of this. The egg layer is almost like a Sabayon. I see it as more of a dessert maybe serve with a crisp delicate biscuit, cats tongue or tuille! Um I'm intrigued!!!
+Thành Trần - Apparently it's local to a few cafes in Hanoi. I hope you have a chance to try it. It's delicious! I'd love to hear what you think of it. Thanks for watching!
W Ellis Thanks for checking it out! I'd love to hear how the final product turns out if you give it a shot. This Vietnamese egg coffee one has definitely turned into one of my favorites.
+Joe Applebey - It's from the UA-cam audio library. Unfortunately I don't remember the name of the song off the top of my head. I enjoy it too, though!
+Joe Applebey - I'm so glad you had a chance to make this! It's a real indulgence, isn't it? Very rich stuff but definitely worth trying at least once. :) Thank you for your kind comment and for watching!
+MokaBees I made it that same day, sorry about the super late reply but I loved it! I ended up having 2 of them that day and then everyday for a week! Thank you again for posting, I've checked out more of your videos and I love your channel. A coffee lovers dream for sure. Keep up the amazing work :-)
+Rebel Grrrl Vapor Thank you for checking back! I'm thrilled the recipe turned out well! And thanks for so much your kind comments. I was having one of those days where nothing was going right while filming, and your note seriously made my day.
+MokaBees You're very welcome. I've had many days like that when filming for my channel too. As a side note, I started making cold brew coffee last night. I saw your video on it and can't wait to try it out :-)
I was watching ABC World News and David Muir was showing where he went to have the coffee and he love it. So I Google and found this. I am going to try this.
+Mulianya Moem - Unfortunately I don't. But if you have any Asian markets near you, you might be able to find one. If you search the AliExpress website for "vietnam coffee filter", there's a few sellers that ship to Indonesia as well (some of them offer free shipping). However, the good news is that you don't necessarily need to use a Vietnamese phin to try this recipe. Simply brew very dark, strong coffee instead using the equipment you currently have. Hope this helps! Thanks for watching!
l'uovo sbattuto. This is Italian and been around forever. Basically putting the zabaglione in your espresso or latte. Commonly was given to children since caffe is so bitter.
hi ! its a great video and would love to try this out. however its hard to find vietnam coffee filter here in my place. can i just use french press instead?
+Radin Nurafzan - You can use any coffee you like, but I recommend making it as strong as possible to stand-up to the sweetness of the egg cream. Thanks for watching!
+Fuz Niaxi - Whisking it by hand would take a LOT of time, and unfortunately the texture doesn't come out quite as dense or fluffy. It'll still be tasty though! An electric blender might work okay. Thanks for watching! :)
I have also hand whisked it, it's just not going to be very fluffy, unless you're very good and have a strong, fast whisking technique. myself I'm not very strong or energetic, so I can't manage it, by it's still good and a bit foamy. I also can't do meringue but I know people could do it without the electric mixer, just not me sadly.
Hi, I'm Vietnamese and really surprised by your video. I want to introduce Egg - coffee at a cultural exchange program, so could I use your video at my presentation about Vietnam coffee? Thank you very much.
It looks tempting.. I loved condensed milk and coconut milk coffee recipes but I feel like egg yolk is not cooked so it's very hard to drink for me.. ☹️
I tried to make this and it didn’t turn to foam whatsoever - it stayed goopy AF and sunk to the bottom of the coffee. Wasted two cups trying to correct it. What am I doing wrong?
Hi! Hope you can help me but I can’t make the liquid tiramisu in a thick texture. :( what should I do? I used an electric mixer not an electric whisker. Is that ok?
I disagree when you put condense milk in with the eggs. If you put condense milk in the coffee and let it sink to the bottom then you'll have three layers. Condense milk at the bottom, coffee in the middle and the creamy egg yolk on top, which then will look much prettier like a liquid tiramisu. And if you use honey instead of sugar, you'll get a better creamier texture.
The condensed milk will be mixed with the coffee. No layer there. In Vietnam, they use condensed milk instead of milk, and it makes the coffee much, uhm, condensed. The strong bitter Vietnamese coffee mixed with sweetened condensed milk, be something that make starbucks become shit.
How did u make the egg yolk and sweet condensed milk stirred till it becomes fluffy and white? I tried and tried but mine is liquid , not so fluffy as yours
How come you've not uploaded videos lately? Are you done with youtube? :) Honeysuckle got around to making the Vietnamese egg coffee and it reminded me of when I first saw this video and how mesmerizing all your coffee videos were to me. As a vietnamese person. Back to the old days we were too poor to buy milk so we had to use egg to replace. That's the main reason this kind of drink was made
Really?? It likes a huge innovation that made Vietnamese coffee is unique
improvise, adapt, overcome
nice to know.. thanks..
i'm vietnamese, that' true.
Oh phuk

This is awesome, easy to make and you can use your favorite coffee, i used 4 grams of Nescafe Classic for one cup (made in about 1.3 dl of water)
This recipe is amazing.

Very creative work!! It looks YUMMY!! Thanks for sharing and blessings to you my friend..
🤣 Read egg coffee, clicked, watched the whole video concluded that it's a tiramisu drink, then read tiramisu liquid 😅
Very nice video thanks. I realised its only common in Hanoi. When i visited Saigon it was rarely found there. Saigonese ppl mostly drink iced coffee.
can't wait to try this recipe out. Thanks so much!!!!
Very nice video! Well done! Thank you for sharing such a wonderful treat.
super creamy and delicious !
Never heard of it this way not a vietnamist but looks like a good combo
Its pretty good! Just tried today.. I also add butter to the coffee. It's kind of like the lubrication formula from Aajunous Vonderplanitz
Can i make the egg mixture ahead and store in fridge for next day use?
nice video, thanks. I liked the music. can't wait to try it myself.
thanks
do nghia You're welcome :)

I use condensed milk to make a simple espresso café latte with steamed carnation condensed milk, its awesome
+jimf28 - Delicious! I have a standard Vietnamese Coffee video that kinda covers that recipe. It's one of my favorites and very easy to make.
Very nice and just tried it but I would say that's a desert spoon not a tablespoon which is larger.
Havta try it , Vietnamese coffee rules !! ( it's French with Vietnamese going over)
MMMM looks so good!!
Holy cow! You guys rock!
I can't wait tell the morning just got mine Lil coffee maker today 😁
thanks for this
Can't wait to try it when I'm there next month. I imagine the calories are a little high though.
Lots of sugar in the condensed milk. But it looks like a real treat
very inspiring, i'll try to make one but first i have to buy the equipment...any idea where to buy in Jakarta?

How many hours or days if i put the mix egg yolk in the chiller before it will expire pls.?
don't do that.

i tried this it didnt get thick or light coloured even though i whipped it for about 10 minutes
same here! 😳
can I use hand blender or whisker? by d way Great Effort I'm just lovi'nt THANX
+Fuz Niaxi - Whisking it by hand would take a LOT of time, and unfortunately the texture doesn't come out quite as dense or fluffy. It'll still be tasty though! An electric blender might work okay. Thanks for watching! :)

thank you very much!
Is it possible to serve it with ice ? The weather is pretty hot now in Saigon, and i dont want to sweat while drinking this
thanks for the point !! HCM city is now going to dry "hot" season, guess i have to wait another time then.
why not use the egg white too?
How come my egg cream doesn’t get white and fluffy?
Sublime!!
Thank you for sharing. It is more well known to foreign tourists rather than Vietnamese though.
You don't need all that extra crap the sweetened condensed milk will provide all the sweet flavor needed.
Hi, I'm Vietnamese and really surprised by your video. I want to introduce Egg - coffee at a cultural exchange program, so could I use your video at my presentation about Vietnam coffee? Thank you very much.
VietNam is coffee heaven
Asked my vietnamese friend about this , told me that he'd never heard of this :v
It's mostly popular in Hanoi than other place in Viet Nam
It's delicious!!!
What do I do with the rest of the sweetened condensed milk that is left over in the can?
Put em in the fridge for later
labobo you can try avocado smoothie if you like sweet treats :D
Drink it!
Tony James Gilpin you can combine it with some hot water to drink too :D
lol put it into the fridge so you can use it for another turn of vietnamese milk coffee
It looks tempting.. I loved condensed milk and coconut milk coffee recipes but I feel like egg yolk is not cooked so it's very hard to drink for me.. ☹️
Cà Phê Sữa Hột Gà(vietnamese name - north of Vietnam)
ok great, now can someone make this for me please?
Like as Kopi Talua Indonesia but i prefer using duck egg & cinamon powder for garnish..
+Dwi Jaya Febriansyah - I looked this up online and it looks delicious! I'll have to try it sometime. Thanks for watching!
That's sounds good
I tried to make this and it didn’t turn to foam whatsoever - it stayed goopy AF and sunk to the bottom of the coffee. Wasted two cups trying to correct it. What am I doing wrong?
Not enough whipping, it get pale cause there are bubbles in it. Try Whipping it longer.
HHhhhhmmmmmm................................thank you.
We don’t use sugar, vanilla. Missing ingredient!
Is the egg taste very present? ....thatd be off putting to me
Gawd dang that latte is thick 😉
0:42 but in Vietnam it just only 1$.
How come you've not uploaded videos lately? No worries. I decided to return to school and get my degree, so I've been super busy. Thank you for your concern!
Can I use Instant Coffee instead?
