Once again, nice to know I am not alone. Thanks for posting. I drive an X2 and while I love the car, the bluetooth connection issues drive me crazy. And the guys in the dealership act as if they have never heard of this issue. I expected more from a BMW. And I do believe the fault lies with BMW, not Apple. I drove a Volvo prior to this and I went thru numerous Apple phone updates and never, ever had an issue with Bluetooth. I remember the guys at Volvo telling me they installed a software update a couple of times. I never knew what they were for and now I do. Thanks again.
I had to buy a wireless music receiver, that’s the only way my Bluetooth audio will play in my 2013 BMW X5. The bmw dealership act as if they never heard about this so I had to figure it out myself but it works!
Thank you for posting this video! I have a 2015 BMW X5 35i and have had trouble with the bluetooth almost from the beginning. Again the dealership claims to have never heard of the problem. I can receive phone calls through the bluetooth, but no media or music will play anymore. I was told today that the problem could be fixed by replacing the radio - for $2200. I was skeptical about this option and after watching this video I will definitely not be replacing the radio. This will be my first and last BMW
So I have 2016 535i I just bought it few days ago and my iPhone X didn’t had any issues playing music or talking (thru Bluetooth) however, soon as I downloaded the bmw connected app I’m getting disconnected turn out app works with iPhone XR and latest ONLY. So I deleted app and using it then it’s fine. But still trying to find ways to use app using iPhone X
Unfortunately I’m having the same issues with my bmw. I have a 2014 320i and the car runs perfectly. The only problem is, of course, the un-updated software like you mentioned in the video. I purchased an adapter for the cable to work with my iPhone 11 and I plugged it straight in. Nothing. The phone held a charge, but the music only came from my phone. I appreciate you making this video, and I hope that bmw comes to their senses on this issue.
Thanks for information. I have same experience with my BMW X5-s and iPhones. I thought it’s something like that but I didn’t care enough to go through all this. Thanks for doing that so I can confirm this by your experience. Great video and good explanations
Hi, i had to buy a new iphone which flatly refused to pair with my bmw 320D 2012! the little wheel went round and round and no code was generated! I saw a guy on this site say to use any code to pair with so i used 000000 and it worked!! I have been trying to do this for weeks, trying every dodge/fix/work around i could find on the internet but to no avail until I found this site! Thanks to the guy in a post below, sorry can’t find him right now. I hope this works for some of you and I appreciate this is quite an old post but quite clearly, from my experience, it’s still going on! I’m so happy!! I really hope this fix works for some of you 🤞
I have a BMW X5 2013 and an iPhone 6s, I was feeling very frustrated until I read all the problems others are having. My phone works fine, but every time I get in the car it plays music from my iPhone. It is a problem when I am using GPS. I set up GPS in the garage before leaving and once I get into my neighborhood the music comes on and I have to pull over to turn it off. There is no easy way that I know of to just turn the music off if you want only GPS. It is a safety issue for sure. I keep my phone on the dashboard in a stand so to reach for it and then flip to the music app and turn it off is a royal pain. If I make a stop at a store and take my phone it immediately turns on when I get in the car. I thought maybe it was a setting on the phone that I had incorrectly. Perhaps like many others it is just software that is older that never worked right. Thank you very much for your video. At first I thought it was me.
I have an old BMW X1, bought from new and just updated my iPhone from 6 to 13 Pro and like everybody else I cannot pair my phone, I am unsure what to do! Is it time to find a new make and model of car, I ask? Thank you for your video clip, even if I didn’t like the message!
I'm currently driving a Ford F150 and CarPlay is just a breeze. I can't believe BMW still hasn't figured this out. Plus, based on the latest CarPlay preview Apple have at its World Wide Developer Conference (WWDC), BMW won't support the next-gen CarPlay at all.
I test drove a 2013 x5 today and had heard this was an issue. I have a 6s (yes it’s old) and it paired but would not play audio. I also have an LG v30 that I use as a music player only. I will try tethering the LG v30 to the iPhone and connect the v30 to Bluetooth once I have the car. I will report back if I’m successful. Then I will try to write a shortcut for the iPhone so the tether happens automatically
So i have BMW f11 2012. Multimedia version MX-003.004.031 Telephone version TX-003.004.031. Had random Bluetooth audio disconnect while streaming from Galaxy S21 5g. its been one month like that. Tried update but no luck, BMW doesn't offer updates on official site + tried 3 different Usb flash drive to update but car didnt read it. So what did i do? 1. Restarted Idrive. 2. Changed Bluetooth AVRCP version to 1.4 from 1.6, you can find in internet where to change these settings in android phones. 3. Paired friends IPHONE 7 as second paired phone. 4. Changed i drive bluetooth settings to audio only, contacts and the second setting unchecked, only audio. So i dont know what was fix, but its 4 days and works like charm, absolutely no disconnects. Hope its stay like that. Wish you luck
BMW was the same company that thought it was a good idea to charge an annual fee for CarPlay when everyone else gives it away with the car. Same with charging for map updates when everyone else has gone to lifetime updates for free. They might build a good car, but the infotainment systems suck. Poor control design, too many windows to scroll through. Little improvement in the 2022 models.
I've been driving an X3 for almost 3 years and suddenly a week ago my blue tooth stopped working for music and podcasts. In the past I would often have to switch from iphone to radio and back again to get the connection started. Now it seems to have stopped all together. I even tried just using the aux cord to no avail. It's shows the name of the song or podcast on the screen like it's connected, but nothing comes through the speakers. I came across your vlog, and while I am glad to know it's not just me, I'm saddened to learn that issue is not likely to be resolved any time soon. Thanks.
The only thing that I have found to fix this, wired connection, before you shut the car off, unplug the phone and stop your music. I have also found that restarting your phone also works. It’s all stupid, but it tends to work on my 16’ M2.
My husband and I have an Iphone 8 plus and a 2017 BMW X3. We are constantly having issues with blue tooth and also having both phones paired. Now I know, when I am in the car, I cannot hear my phone in any way- no phone calls, texts, UA-cam etc. I can talk to Siri, but I can’t hear Siri back in order to respond properly when using that feature. Thought we were crazy until we saw your video. Good thing also to know from your video, that a software upgrade won’t help. Doesn’t every single person’s have this issue??
So we just traded our Jeep GC for a 2018 BMW Grandcoup. The iPhone 11 pro started off working well but I then up graded the phones to the 13 pro. Now our iPhone 13 pro will not work while in the car. So sad since the car has been owned for only 3 weeks.
I just bought my 2011 BMW X3 and I had been dealing with Bluetooth issues since ... the connecting progress seems easy at first but my car’s Bluetooth never shown on my iPhone 8 and samsung galaxy s9
The only thing that has worked for me so far in my 2013 X5 is to go to settings turn off Bluetooth and the. turn it on again. The issues in my X5 is that I have to do this every single time I want to stream music. For phone calls it always work well. Other than that everything seems to be working alright.
I have the exact same issues you describe with BT and USB but primarily with BT. When I am on calls randomly disconnects making it frustrating and dangerous at the same time. I read in an Apple forum that the issue was resolved when a user removed the BMW connected drive app. Will try that today although not good that I am paying for all those services and I won’t use them
Suddenly bluetooth menu to add and manage phones has become unavailable (BMW 5 F11). Can't add or swap phones connection. No idea what to do when i next change phone... Probably change car too, and try not to reward BMW for their lack of in life support by buying another brand.
During a voice call with iPhone X and BMW 320D 2010, the other side can’t hear me at all, but this was working, and voice recognition works in my car, so not the microphne issue. :( Thanks for sharing this, now I know that I’m not alone.
I love BMWs and have been driving them for 25 years. Now I'll tell you what I never have on my BMWs and that's navigation. Almost all connectivity issues center around BMW navigation. I have not gotten navigation in my past 5 BMWs and I've never had an issue connecting any phone to any BMW. The only problem I've had and all these years was Spotify depreciating their app on BMW so now you're almost forced to get an iPhone if you want to have the Spotify interface on your iDrive. I have had words with BMW of North America about not having Apple CarPlay and Android Auto standard in their vehicles and that even my cheap Chevy truck at work comes equipped with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Ridiculous!
Thought it was just me! So frustrating that I can't pair my phone. My husband's works. And after a $15,000 repair estimate I got yesterday on a car with 36,000 miles, I am really hating BMW at this moment.
Seems like there's a common message here. I just upgraded my IPhone 5S to a 12mini, (after Apple forced an update that caused my 5S to consistently and randomly reboot). My basic stance is: If the phone is working fine, don't update software, or definitely don't update until you've read reviews on the updates. Anyway, the issues I'm having is; My text messaging no longer works in my 2016 BMW 528xi. Also, my redial and received calls are only captured if they occur while in the car. While the phone book syncs every time I restart the car, the redial and received calls don't update. I took the car to BMW yesterday, and they refreshed the software. I also cleared my Bluetooth setting from my IPhone 12 mini, (and of course the car) and reconnected, but still having the issues. I have an Apple advanced service tech trying to find a fix.
I have same issue if I make a call when I end call it doesn’t return to music. Music is on the car menu but won’t play and if you start play from the phone, you can only change tracks via the phone 🤬🤬🤬🤬
I know it doesn’t help you but moving away from BMW has been the best decision (as far as cars are concerned) I’ve made in a long time. Since then, I’ve not had any iPhone issues in any of the other brands I’ve had, including Tesla, Ford and Acura.
Echo the sentiments that it’s good to know I am not alone. I never used to have a problem with either Bluetooth connectivity or tethered connectivity on my BMW i3. However, since I got a new iPhone SE a few months ago, I am now getting the music disconnection issue when tethered via the USB port. The Bluetooth works fine but if I play anything using the usb cable the connection is regularly interrupted as if the cable was faulty. However, I have troubleshot the cable and it isn’t the issue. Moreover I have tethered an older iPhone 7 and it plays music without dropping the connection. I am therefore minded that this is an issue with my new iPhone SE. Any advice welcome.
I have a 2017 440i convertible purchased as approved BMW car Sept 2020 and all working fine until a week ago and just can't get the bluetooth working again via my iphone11. Soooo irritating along with other issues - seatbelts not working and clicking rattle in Roof lid behind back passenger seat. Grrrr still on warranty so will take it back again. I've driven BMWs for some 35 years and never had these sort of orb lens before.
We have had similar problems with our BMW´s but the current 2014 320dAx the issue is more of a "bad antenna" thing when using BT calls on iPhones. Crackling, noise, aborted calls asf. Tried everything. Also extremely slow when scrolling phone book or jumping between settings... Of course, this is also due to the crappy software and, naturally, the dealer denies all knowledge. During the years some SW update (s?) have been made during scheduled maintenance but, yesterday, when I checked the official BMW site, "no update was released" for my model. Today when I asked the dealer, he did a reading of my key and said that there was a newer SW release but wanted 150 Euros for this. Said that it concerned not only the dashboard stuff but also the engine specs so they want to update In-house. I said that he's not getting anything unless he could say exactly what I'm paying for so he told me to call one of the service guys tomorrow... Apparently, the car's current SW version is 020-13-03-502, lets see what they have to come up with. Maybe It would be interesting to compare SW and the issues related to these? I believe that maybe there are both public downloadable software AND sw they want you to pay for..?
Reason being is cause you need to take it to bmw to get updated due to the fact that the vehicle is programmed to use 3G and 4G and you need to take it to bmw to get it updated by them to the 4G and 5G software updates.
I can imagine that being yet ANOTHER issue with BMW but it's not the one I discussed in the video because when I recorded this video 5G didn't exist yet :)
I have the same issue with my BMW X5 (2016 Model). Recently on my iphone 12 Pro when i am playing music on Apple Music it disconnects from the bluetooth and reconnects on its own sometimes a few seconds later or minutes later. When it does eventually reconnect i dont have control of selecting different music. It really is extremely frustrating. I really wish there was a software upgrade for this which would solve this issue once and for all!
I am driving a 2021 BMW X7 rental and my Iphone 6S won't charge while using the USB port. I went to Verizon and they verified that my cord was fine. This is frustrating!
I have the same problem in my 2015 428i gran coupe. I used to have an Android Samsung s9 and had no issues at all. Once I switched over to iPhone I’ve had nothing but issues with the Bluetooth connection since. This also happens in the 2015 M4 with my iPhone
I have a 2013 BMW X1 and Iphone11pro max. I am unable to listen to music or hear navigation directions via blue tooth or hard wired. I can still answer/make calls. I can plug another Iphone and it will read it and play music without having to pair. I have tried rebooting idrive, forgetting device and re-pairing. BMW says i do not need an update. I don't know what else to do. Thank you for this post and trying to help.
I have a 2013 bmw M3 and I have Bluetooth audio only for phone calls. But Bluetooth audio for music and usb connection is non existent. I got Sirius XM just to compensate a little bit to get away from the boring bad quality radio. But MAN I’m going crazy not being able to listen to my own music in my damn M3 🤦🏽♂️
I recently got my 420i (G22) 2021 I’ve noticed that when my cars WiFi is on I don’t receive any messages on my phone and can’t use my phones internet so I’ve had to turn the WiFi off in the car. Then the latest issue is that my iPhone 12 max pro, audio has stopped working through Bluetooth Handsfree when I’m on the phone. I have to switch to my phone speaker, so frustrating. Great video though thank you.
I have a 2018 BMW X Drive 2 I have all of those problems now ,that BMW had a recall in the soft ware more than before I am so frustrated about that issue I don't want to keep having that problem . I go to long trips and I can't enjoy my music. I have an apple X 10 and don't know what to do .
Just got Latest LG Wing - and this problem cropped up in my 550i. As your video pointed out - I went to all the trouble of downloading the latest update to the car; and finally plugged the USB in and it says "same version". So the update I did over two years ago has not been improved since. I'm beyond pissed - a $90k car that can't work on Bluetooth right.
Wow, a friend of mine just asked me to help fix her BT audio issue with her 2014 BMW and iPhone. I thought she was crazy, apparently not. I have no issues with my Samsung and 2015 BMW :D
I have a 2015 BMW 535i, I have the ability to connect by bluetooth for the telephone, but I have no option for bluetooth audio in the Multimedia section. The only option I have is the tethered connection by USB, now that doesnt even work. It will play music for about 20 minutes, then it disconnects and connects randomly every few seconds. Trying to figure out some kind of work around here, as it is beyond frustrating.
I have a 2015 x1 with the same exact problem. It was working fine via Bluetooth or if I had my iPhone connected via usb. Nothing now..! Soo frustrating. I did notice when I downloaded the new “My BMW” app that’s when my problem started. I just deleted the app. I’ll let you know if anything changes.
We just got a 2013 X5 xdrive 35i premium and we are having issues with people hearing us. I have a Samsung galaxy Z fold 3 and my husband an iphone 12. We hooked them up through Bluetooth just fine, it plays our music, downloads our contacts and we can make phone calls and hear the person we are calling just fine but they cannot hear us. Also our voice commands don't work properly. There's a tone, we say navigate to or call____. Then she says you can say voice commands or help. So we say voice commands then she reads off the list..telephone, navigation etc..so we say navigation and she says I can't understand you. We've tried different commands and it keeps saying the same thing. I've spent 3 days researching & cannot find a solution to our problems. We tried going into our permissions on our phones thinking we need to change access to our, microphone or change settings. We've tried erasing the phones from the screen, forgetting the connections in our Bluetooth on our phones, clearing phone data & cache, restarting phone, restarting the vehicle, turning up the volume, etc etc etc. Then reinstalling them but nothing is working. I even checked for software updates. It said it's up to date. We can make calls and connect to the other person, we can hear them but they can't hear us. These 2 issues are driving me nuts. I'm thinking it might be some kind of microphone issue or phone compatibility issue? We have a call into the dealership we bought it from but no response yet. Any help is appreciated. Oh & another issue is the mybmw app says unsupported vehicle after I put in the Vin. So I can't even get into the app. Do we need a paid subscription for the app?
I have a 2016 BMW 428 X drive coupe, and since new, I need to make 2 or 3 attempts to make a call... I later find that when I make a call, the person that am trying to talk to was able to ear me, but on my side, I cannot ear them at all. The car has been to the dealer many, many times for this problem, but never was able to fix it. And just today 18 July 2019, I just pick up my car at the dealer for the same problem, and the second phone call am trying to make, same problem... Imagine, this time, they kept my car for two weeks... ! George
I just bought a 2021 X1 and I have had the worst issues with Apple CarPlay. I actually had to just delete my phone because every time it connected it would just freeze and I couldn’t even get back to my main screen. Took it in once already and dealership said the same thing that they could find no issue and tried to push a “genius “ on me like I didn’t know how to pair a phone.
Hi i have the same issue when I bought a new samsung s10 the problem was started when I should install the phone into the car((bmw f11 -14) I solwed my problem thru disconnect the ground cable too the battery for 20 minutes and it have been working now for 3 days. //Josef from Sweden
I just bought a 2022 330i xdrive, and was having horrible problems with my phone and blue tooth connections. I took it to BMW and effectively they said I needed to get a compatible phone. ( I knew what their response was going to be and I also new what BMW corporate was going to say because I called about the same problem. The dealership's response was get a comparable phone. I asked them what a compatible phone was, but they couldn't produce a list. BMW corporate told me that any android running android 11 will work. The dealership kept pointing me to phones that they "knew worked, and effectively told me to get an iPhone. I don't like apple products, nor did i need a $1000 phone to send and receive texts and act as a phone. MY $350 Motorola worked just fine on my previous BMW. The cell phone blue tooth was not usable. the voice that came from the BMW system was garbled. The phone was useless in the car I just bought, and out of principle I was damned if I was going to buy a new cell phone when I wasn't notified of a potential connectivity issue before I bought the car. - Long story short, BMW considered the matter closed; buy a compatible cell phone, but we don't know what a compatible cell phone was. So., I really got pissed off, backup my cellphone and the reloaded the operating system ( android 11) in my $350 Moto 5g shut off auto updates, and magic happened. My phone that wasn't compatible now worked fine. So, that might be something to consider. My issue turned out to be to ignore what BMW was telling me, and reload my phone. I had absolutely nothing to lose. BMW wasn't going to take the car back over a blue tooth issue, and I was damned if I was going to buy a $1000 phone that was comparable withmy new 2022 53,000 BM@ 330i xdrive.
Literally have bmw 535i 2016 and my Bluetooth always turns off and I have to turn off Bluetooth and turn back on. And then it still ends up cutting off in a couple of minutes or so. Some days it’s good. But most days it’s not... just went to know what to do. I have an iPhone 8plus as well
Phone can charge when plug in USB port, but music couldn't work ( it was working good previously), the screen shows " Not Connected", even Pendrive also the same situation, any suggestions please?
Thank you for sharing… just bought an iphone 13… and it won’t play properly with my 320D grrr I am so sick of buying something new and stuff just doesn’t work and no one cares!
Well I just bought my 2016 535i xdrive few days ago and when I first synced iPhone X it worked fine phone conversation playing music (no text showing) anyhow then I downloaded bmw connected app then Bluetooth kept on dropping so when I deleted app it worked fine again. (App stated it will work with iPhone XR or latest ) so I’m thinking of you have older version of phone it may not work. Again as of today, iPhone X works fine w 2016 535 but can’t w bmw connect app. I found out also bmw entertainment center software need to be updated which I’m playing on to do it.
That is why Im watching this right now bec the same problem after updating my iphone 12 max it doesn’t connect even Bluetooth and now the dealer asking mejust to check the car for $200🤬… the frustrations🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️😫 thank you .
I have a 2020 X3 and about a week ago my Samsung S8 stopped connecting to the car. I tried my wife’s iPhone yesterday, and it no longer connects either. Extremely frustrating!
@@MichaelKummer Once again, my phone wouldn't connect to my car this morning, but amazingly, I got my phone to connect to my car this afternoon. I don't know why it worked, but this is what happened. I was in my house, on a phone call using my air pods. While still on the phone call, I went out to my car and got in. When the car powered up, the call audio automatically transferred to my car. After my phone call was over, I turned off bluetooth on my phone to see what would happen when I turned it back on. When I turned bluetooth back on, it connected to the car automatically. I did this a couple more times with success. I don't know how/why this worked, but it did...
2019 X3 here: Bluetooth works great with music but my issue is when a call comes in and I go to answer via BT my mic doesn’t seem to work when connected to my car. Anyone with this same issue??? I’ve done the basic troubleshooting. Trying hard to avoid the dealership b/c I’m going to go off if they say “never heard of this” BS stuff.
hi i am from germany and i have a iphone X and a bmw 1er 118 D and i have the same issues right now....:/ do u have a answer of this problem? it still sucks so hard .
I just bought a BMW X2 and CANNOT get my Iphone 11 to connect to the blue tooth no matter what Ive tried! I can get phone calls but thats it! Its very frustrating. I am calling dealer tomorrow.
@@MichaelKummer it just say error, can not connect. I’m not getting the pop up on my phone to enter a number. Tried several times. Tried to update the idrive yesterday and it said it was current. I’m on 14.3.
@@MichaelKummer I’ll try that today. Ive been using the USB to play music, but that’s super annoying. Constantly dropping the connection and if it’s connected, it usually has a lot of static.
@@MichaelKummer ok I got it❗️❗️. So super happy. I didn’t realize the code the car asks for is your phones security code. You have to enter the numbers fast. I tried several times and it kept timing out. Finally I got it. It’s paired with both phone functions and music functions. The sound quality is superb and it automatically starts playing music when I enter the car. I drove around Portland for about 6 hours yesterday, stopping, getting in and out and it worked flawlessly. So happy! 😊
Uggh we are having the same problem. we just switched from the iphone 10 to the 12. They wont sinc up in either our 2017 4 series or our 2016 X3 the 10's were no problem. But the iphone 12 and our cars are becoming a nightmare. If I get a ticket being on my phone speaker on of course. I am sending the bill to BMW. time to go back to Mercedes
I have a BMW X5 2012 E70 CIC unit was having issue with my new iphone 11 and I unpaired all bluetooth phones and reset network setting and reset and updated iPhone ios still no luck. Issue with adding a device - I reach the point where it accepts the PIN and it trys connecting.. and the device is not listed.. it shows up on my iphone as connected but nothing works. is there any way to fix it.
NOT! I have new IPhone 11 with latest IOS update and still experiencing same problems. It definitely is a BMW issue that they obviously don’t care about.
i just got a 2013 328i sedan for my 16th birthday and the biggest disappointment is i can’t even play my music. usb doesn’t work aux doesn’t work and bluetooth doesn’t work. so i have to bring a speaker to improvise😭. nice to know i’m not alone
I got a iphone xs yesterday and when im trying to connect it via the armrest usb port the battery symbol starts flickering when plugged in and i get no connection 😔
90% of the time it plays music fine. 10% it won’t connect via Bluetooth. All of the time, it screws up album covers and even artist names. It also often “forgets” which song it was on and starts playing a random song that begins with A (not even the first song, so it’s not alphabetical). Right now, it’s refusing to connect and I have to just wait for it to reset itself which can take hours or days. I’m not sure what drugs my 2016 BMW 4 is on, but I miss my Ford Lol.
Same problem with my 2019 X5. BMW Only works with one Iphone. If you share the car with your wife, it will be nightmares to connect the iPhones to Bluetooth.
Same. I commented above as well. Have to ask wife to turn off her phone until I can get connected. Afterwards, it is ok until of course I turn off the car (say at a rest stop) and restart and problems starts all over again.
@@MichaelKummer when I ring people I can hear them but when I talk back to them they can’t hear me, my phone connected to the radio etc but just when I talk it’s like am muted so they can’t hear anything I say
@@jamiewhitehurst5806 It's been years since I had a BMW and remember having such issues as well. Unfortunately, I don't recall what caused that particular problem and how I fixed it.
I have a bmw 3 series 2020 g20 model and I have iPhone X and I am having Bluetooth issues all of a sudden after 3 months of owning the car it doesn’t let me connect anymore
ONE POSSIBLE SOLUTION - weird as it may be ... 2008 BMW 550i When I updated to iOS 14.01 I lost bluetooth connectivity in this car. ( tried everything - like even removing battery, etc. ) - Then My front driver-side xenon light went out; - I removed ENTIRE light assembly; - turned car on so it could recognize that all sorts of sh!t was missing and throw ODB codes. - left it out for several days awaiting new bulb delivery ( she was a garage-queen for a week lol ) - I updated to iOS 14.2 - I installed new light bulb - started car AND IT HAD LOST IT'S TIME - had to reset clock - hint hint The car then asked me to set a pairing key code ( you know like 1234 or whatever we humans like to type in ) and it then successfully paired. I don't know if this will help - but for what it's worth, here are my details. I don't know if it was merely the iOS 14.2 update or the onboard computer actually 'waking up' that did the trick. Who knows. ( I do not check this site, so will not see future questions )
I have a 2013 X3 35i and an iPhone XR. The problem I have is 90% of the time my content won't load. So, when I start the car, the infotainment system will begin playing whatever was playing last. When I try to switch to a different playlist the screen will say "waiting." That goes on for 3-5 minutes. When all the playlists finally appear and I choose one, the screen once again says "waiting." (another 3-5 minutes) When the songs finally appear I can begin the music, but the timer does not run smoothly through the song and if I try to switch to a different playlist I go through the same thing all over again. Also, no album artwork is loading. I have tried re-pairing, restarting, and just about everything else I could find online. The odd thing is that sometimes I start my car and it just goes back to normal. Anyone else have this issue...and hopefully a fix?
Guys please help! My bluetooth was working fine, but then one day when I wanted to add a new device it would not show the bmw identification number, then I pressed the add new device several times and the identification number showed for a split second and then disappeared. (It glitched) When I pressed it one more it did not show the id number for bluetooth. From then I can not find the solution, so please if you had this problem help!!
You'll have to reset the connection. I have a 2019 bmw and have this same issue every 2 days where the iphone says its Bluetooth is connected to the car, but the car fails to connect. You'll have to disconnect on both sides, forget device on your phone, and delete your phone as a bluetooth device on your car. Restart your phone and set it up all over again. Worked for me but expect it to happen again.
So all of a sudden my phone won’t show the name of the person texting me. It shows the text message and the number but not the name all though it shows the name of the person in the contact list. Anyone know how to fix this. I didn’t change anything and it used to work before. Even more odd if that same person texting actually calls me their name and picture display but not their name if they send a text it’s just their phone number which is useless unless I know every persons number my memory. Any help?
I own a 4 Series Convertible 2017, I started having this problem in 2019, i told them about this and they told me it needs a update witch i did. but the problem didnt stop and they want me to pay to get a diagnostic witch they could of done while the car was under warranty. then i was told its my iphone XS Max update is not compatible, witch is B.S because it’s been happening since 2019 and it was not the same IOS Update!!! NEVER GET A BMW, WORST SERVICE EVER!
Yes brand new 2020 x5 with iphone all the latest updates. BMW should be ashamed. Music, phone, carplay comes and goes all of the time. Disconnects then reconnects whenever.....absolutely ridiculous. Ford F150 does x1000 times better. Have to wonder if this is there way of tryn to push you into using "idrive"
Really frustrating! $80k for a 2021 BMW that I can't get Carplay to work properly on. BMW points the finger at Apple and Apple won't reply period. My problem is that I am often dropping the bluetooth connection, which causes Carplay to disappear from my car altogether. If I'm driving in an area where I am relying on a map to get me where it can really be dangerous, as I have to quickly fumble for my phone. After the drop the directions are still on my phone, but I have to try and navigate by looking at my phone while I drive instead of focusing on the road. Every now and then the bluetooth will be restored automagically, and Carplay will come back without me having to do anything. That doesn't always happen, and, when it does, it often can take over a minute to restore. This is really disappointing. I think I will go back to Lexus. I love the BMW ride but not at this price.
I have the latest 2019 BMW X5, carplay and wifi connection is a joke; whilst playing Amazon Music, I have to use my phone to play the first track - Seriously, it's the worst car I've had - I'm going back to Audi
We have a new 2019 X3 and can attest to the same problems Mark states. Also, whenever I get in our car, it connects first to my wife’s phone and when I try to change to mine, it does not recognize my phone. I have to ask my wife to turn off her phone so it recognizes my phone. Not sure if there is a Primary and Secondary switch for iPhone use as I want to play music and Sirius from my phone.
I dont have carplay have oem to Play on bluetooth, i have 2012 E90 i can play iPhone XS it works fine can play music can read text message, only i cant read my emails because must be iOS 5 or iOS 6 i have IOS 13, with Android phone shows me the email be latest phone dont allowed you get emails only old version works, its the fault from bmw Engineering.
I love my X6 & it drives amazing, BUT I can’t link my iPhone with it....it’s uselsss and I’m sick of it now....being honest? Sadly my next car may be another German model, as I need a phone when I drive as I work for myself & miss too many calls...shame the dealerships can’t see long term how they will lose loyal BMW customers
So what can we all do? Aside from buying new cars 😩😂....I can’t link this iPhone 7 to my X6 no matter how much I try...so I either never take a business call or risk breaking the law..WHICH I WONT DO....so I guess I just have to buy a Parrot kit
Fucking BMW ... I am about to crash it against the wall. It fucking sucks. Bluetooth sucks, car play sucks, why is it so hard for bmw to fix this crap?
To learn more about this issue and all the failed attempts to fix it, check out my blog post at michaelkummer.com/tech/bmw-bluetooth-issues/.
Thanks for the feedback Jackie!
I had to buy a wireless music receiver, that’s the only way my Bluetooth audio will play in my 2013 BMW X5. The bmw dealership act as if they never heard about this so I had to figure it out myself but it works!
👍🏻
Where does the wireless music receiver go in the car? Do it have to be installed?
Thank you for sharing your solution!
Yep, I came to the same conclusion...
I hope so too!
So it was a software issue? Were you able to update it?
I dropped BMW years ago and never looked back :)
Frustrating!!!’ U r not alone. Drives me crazy 2022 X5
Thanks. Owner of 2015 328i here. It’s happening to me now...
Sorry to hear that Matt!
Thanks for sharing!
Thanks.
I wrote about this issue several years ago on my blog and I'm puzzled that BMW still hasn't fixed it. That's mind-boggling.
Got stock on same problem.. cyber_kor on Instagram did it for me. He is the best and very reliable...
I would certainly think that a lot of people have similar issues.
How did u fix it
So we just traded our Jeep GC for a 2018 BMW Grandcoup. The iPhone 11 pro started off working well but I then up graded the phones to the 13 pro. Now our iPhone 13 pro will not work while in the car. So sad since the car has been owned for only 3 weeks.
Sorry to hear that man! I really wish BMW would get their act together and more people would learn about the issue before purchasing the car.
I just bought my 2011 BMW X3 and I had been dealing with Bluetooth issues since ... the connecting progress seems easy at first but my car’s Bluetooth never shown on my iPhone 8 and samsung galaxy s9
Super frustrating!
Will try that today although not good that I am paying for all those services and I won’t use them
Sounds good, let me know if removing the app fixed the issue for you please!
Suddenly bluetooth menu to add and manage phones has become unavailable (BMW 5 F11). Can't add or swap phones connection. No idea what to do when i next change phone... Probably change car too, and try not to reward BMW for their lack of in life support by buying another brand.
Not buying another BMW is the only way to "vote with your dollars" and to make BMW aware of this serious fuck-up.
Same problem here with my Iphone 11 and our BMW. Infuriating! Thanks for this video, at least I know it's not me being blond again....
Hehe, no, it's definitely not related to your hair color...
During a voice call with iPhone X and BMW 320D 2010, the other side can’t hear me at all, but this was working, and voice recognition works in my car, so not the microphne issue. :( Thanks for sharing this, now I know that I’m not alone.
👍🏻
Ridiculous!
Dude have the same issue with my X5!! (2013)Appreciate this info😒
You're most welcome! I wish I had a solution to this problem...
Same situation here, on a Series 1, 2020. Spotify and Bluetooth audio work whenever they like...
Sorry to hear that man. I feel your frustration!
Good luck Frank!
It's a problem with BMW rather than the iPhone and unfortunately, BMW doesn't seem to be willing to do anything about it.
My advice...get another car (brand) because BMW won't be able to fix the problem based on everything I've heard, seen and experienced.
Cause the 3G towers were taken down and your vehicle is still trying to use the 3G towers I had the same problem but they fixed it.
Your best bet to get music working is to buy an iPhone from 2015/2016 :)
I can’t even connect at all now . I drove a 530 2018. Shit is frustrating. I have a iPhone 12 pro
Interesting to hear that your Android phone seems to be working well!
You're welcome!
I know, it's frustrating!
Same issue with my x3x pretty sure after moving to ios14
I recently got my 420i (G22) 2021 I’ve noticed that when my cars WiFi is on I don’t receive any messages on my phone and can’t use my phones internet so I’ve had to turn the WiFi off in the car. Then the latest issue is that my iPhone 12 max pro, audio has stopped working through Bluetooth Handsfree when I’m on the phone. I have to switch to my phone speaker, so frustrating. Great video though thank you.
I'm sorry to hear that and I can't believe that BMW still hasn't figured this out in their 2021 models!
Michael Kummer exactly it’s unbelievable
We have a 2013 X3 and my iPhone XR paired with it no problem. I bought a 12 Pro and cannot get a passkey to generate. Any other tips? Thank you!
No idea...I won't get my iPhone 12 Pro Max until next Friday and I don't have a BMW anymore :)
On my X6 people can not hear me in Apple Car Play..they said I sound far away..when I switch to BMW it works
Is that a new X6?
I have a 2018 BMW X Drive 2 I have all of those problems now ,that BMW had a recall in the soft ware more than before I am so frustrated about that issue I don't want to keep having that problem . I go to long trips and I can't enjoy my music. I have an apple X 10 and don't know what to do .
I have yet to find a solution other than switching cars...
I know, it's frustrating!
Wow, a friend of mine just asked me to help fix her BT audio issue with her 2014 BMW and iPhone. I thought she was crazy, apparently not. I have no issues with my Samsung and 2015 BMW :D
Don’t switch phones or switch cars ;)
I have a 2015 BMW 535i, I have the ability to connect by bluetooth for the telephone, but I have no option for bluetooth audio in the Multimedia section. The only option I have is the tethered connection by USB, now that doesnt even work. It will play music for about 20 minutes, then it disconnects and connects randomly every few seconds. Trying to figure out some kind of work around here, as it is beyond frustrating.
Good luck man!
@@MichaelKummer Thanks!
I’m sorry to hear about your issues man. It’s super frustrating and I wish I had a solution for you…but I don’t :(
I have a 2016 BMW 428 X drive coupe, and since new, I need to make 2 or 3 attempts to make a call...
George
It's really a shame what BMW is pulling off here. I'm so disappointed. On the bright side, my MDX is working again with the latest iOS beta :)
I guess nothing has changed since I originally recorded this video...sad!
Hi i have the same issue when I bought a new samsung s10 the problem was started when I should install the phone into the car((bmw f11 -14) I solwed my problem thru disconnect the ground cable too the battery for 20 minutes and it have been working now for 3 days.
//Josef from Sweden
Thanks for the tip!
I have an iPhone 8plus as well
See the previous viewers comments. Maybe unplugging the car’s battery for a bit will help.
Phone can charge when plug in USB port, but music couldn't work ( it was working good previously), the screen shows " Not Connected", even Pendrive also the same situation, any suggestions please?
Return your car and get a different brand ;)
Thank you for sharing… just bought an iphone 13… and it won’t play properly with my 320D grrr I am so sick of buying something new and stuff just doesn’t work and no one cares!
I feel your frustration Samantha!
Thanks for the feedback! Let me know if the software update makes any difference.
It's ridiculous of your dealer to ask for a services fee to diagnose an issue BMW has caused.
MY 2020 535 is having this issue too! It is so frustrating--I haven't been able to make calls for almost 2 weeks now
I feel ya!
Look at this. Maybe it'll help. ua-cam.com/video/oO7bp92SVaQ/v-deo.html&ab_channel=KajiMakerz
I have a 2020 X3 and about a week ago my Samsung S8 stopped connecting to the car. I tried my wife’s iPhone yesterday, and it no longer connects either. Extremely frustrating!
I feel the pain!
Yes I’m having the same issue
2019 X3 here: Bluetooth works great with music but my issue is when a call comes in and I go to answer via BT my mic doesn’t seem to work when connected to my car. Anyone with this same issue??? I’ve done the basic troubleshooting. Trying hard to avoid the dealership b/c I’m going to go off if they say “never heard of this” BS stuff.
How did u fix it
hi i am from germany and i have a iphone X and a bmw 1er 118 D and i have the same issues right now....:/ do u have a answer of this problem? it still sucks so hard .
Servus Elf! Nope, ich hab leider bisher keine Lösung für das Problem gefunden...
I just bought a BMW X2 and CANNOT get my Iphone 11 to connect to the blue tooth no matter what Ive tried! I can get phone calls but thats it! Its very frustrating. I am calling dealer tomorrow.
Let us know what the dealer said and if you could resolve the issue please!
I just bought a 128 with idrive and I can’t get it to pair with my iPhone 12 Pro Max.
Sounds like a familiar problem. What's the error message you are getting?
@@MichaelKummer it just say error, can not connect. I’m not getting the pop up on my phone to enter a number. Tried several times. Tried to update the idrive yesterday and it said it was current. I’m on 14.3.
@@OregonMotorcycle Have you tried restarting your iPhone?
Yep, I've heard Mercedes has much better support for iPhone!
I don't know what else you could do. Maybe a future iOS update will fix the issue or provide a workaround...
That puts a damper on an otherwise awesome present!
Michael Kummer i found a solution and now it works. so delighted
@@jeo-ot4qy what was your solution?
@@carrillo7179 if you have any emojis in your iphones name it wont connect for some reason

I have the same issue with my BMW X5. Bluetooth not working at all. If anybody find a solution please let me know. Thank you.
Plzz how can i delete my recent calls or all my calls from my bmw x1 2014 with a screen android for x1 ?????? I bought the 📺 recently
Have you checked out the owner's manual of your car?
Same issue iPhone 7 with bmw 2012 and 2017 (320)
Sorry to hear that but thanks for sharing!
I have a 2015 228xi and have an iPhone 11 and this just started happening today!
Yikes
I got a iphone xs yesterday and when im trying to connect it via the armrest usb port the battery symbol starts flickering when plugged in and i get no connection 😔
Sorry to hear that!
It's an embarrassment for a brand like BMW to not get this figured out!
Same problem with my 2019 X5. BMW Only works with one Iphone. If you share the car with your wife, it will be nightmares to connect the iPhones to Bluetooth.
👍🏻
Same. I commented above as well. Have to ask wife to turn off her phone until I can get connected. Afterwards, it is ok until of course I turn off the car (say at a rest stop) and restart and problems starts all over again.
My bmw 1 series 2010 has bmw professional phone comes through but they can’t hear me any reason why?
I'm sure there is a reason but none that can be easily diagnosed remotely based on the limited information you provided :)

Sounds like another case of BMW hasn't updated its software to keep up with iOS updates.
Exact same. Wtf.
ONE POSSIBLE SOLUTION - weird as it may be ...
2008 BMW 550i
When I updated to iOS 14.01 I lost bluetooth connectivity in this car. ( tried everything - like even removing battery, etc. )
- Then My front driver-side xenon light went out;
- I removed ENTIRE light assembly;
- turned car on so it could recognize that all sorts of sh!t was missing and throw ODB codes.
- left it out for several days awaiting new bulb delivery ( she was a garage-queen for a week lol )
- I updated to iOS 14.2
- I installed new light bulb
- started car AND IT HAD LOST IT'S TIME - had to reset clock - hint hint
The car then asked me to set a pairing key code ( you know like 1234 or whatever we humans like to type in ) and it then successfully paired.
I don't know if this will help - but for what it's worth, here are my details. I don't know if it was merely the iOS 14.2 update or the onboard computer actually 'waking up' that did the trick. Who knows.
( I do not check this site, so will not see future questions )
Thanks for sharing, maybe it’ll work for others!
My iphone 12 pro max doesn't connect to BMW 2014 i320 xdrive. too bad!
Sorry to hear that bud!
Lmao I’m in 2015 bmw i3 getting BT issues usb cable GINE but Bluetooth in and out! Some bullshit!
I feel ya bro!
I have the same problem on F31/2019 with iPhone SE. Strange the connection with my old Android phone from 2016 (Galaxy A5) is continuous.
Do you have issues with BT, USB or both?
I have experience with BT only. I do not prefer wires in 2019 :D
Hehe, makes sense. Thanks for the feedback!
My fix was to switch cars...nothing else I tried worked.
I have this issue I just got a brand new 2021 bmw 530e . G30 LCI
That sucks, sorry to hear that Ryan!
I can use iPhone SE with 3 wagon over USB no problem but my calls don’t work over USB in M2? WTF?
👎🏻
Guys please help!
My bluetooth was working fine, but then one day when I wanted to add a new device it would not show the bmw identification number, then I pressed the add new device several times and the identification number showed for a split second and then disappeared. (It glitched) When I pressed it one more it did not show the id number for bluetooth. From then I can not find the solution, so please if you had this problem help!!
I have an bmw f30 2016 M-unique model
I don't know what could be causing this issue.
Any help?
I never had this issue before...
Agreed
i have f10 model iPhone connection is ok but no music sound and in cd/multimedia option no aux aur external device option. Can someone help me please

Thanks for sharing! My wife has been talking about BMWs and I keep telling her that they still haven't fixed the problem. It's unbelievable...
@@MichaelKummer I did a full "factory reset" and reinstalled the "mybmw" app on iphone, it is working better so far. Will report back in a few weeks
Can I hook up by to 745i bmw 05
I feel ya man!
well said, same issues here. pathetic for such a high price car
I have a 328i gt 2014 and i have problem With changing music and that usb problem u ve just talked about 🤬🤬
I'm sorry to hear that. On the bright side, you're not alone :)
I have the latest 2019 BMW X5, carplay and wifi connection is a joke; whilst playing Amazon Music, I have to use my phone to play the first track - Seriously, it's the worst car I've had - I'm going back to Audi
Thanks for sharing! I was hoping the latest generation of BMWs have those issues fixed. I guess not...
My 2011 bmw 328ixdrive when playing music from the phone cuts off 45 - 75 second
A reader of my blog recommended unplugging the car’s battery for the electronics to reset. Maybe that helps!
Same issue on my 1er 2013. My XR doesn't work. Now I'm using an old iPod... damn BMW. It's a 32k€ car and after 5 years your phone it's useless?????

There is no solution (that I have found).
Fucking BMW ... I am about to crash it against the wall. It fucking sucks. Bluetooth sucks, car play sucks, why is it so hard for bmw to fix this crap?
It's probably because they care more about the mechanics than the entertainment aspects of the car :)
