Wonderful reaction. On Dec 6 1988 I was on the highway and heard on the radio that Roy had passed away. I cherished every song he sang. I pulled over to sob and made a pay phone call to tell my husband. He began to cry, as well. No other singer's passing has affected me so deeply. What a gifted voice and gentle soul he had. He sang Crying and also sang it with K D Lang. Epic! His family chose her to sing it at the tribute to him. He had to be smiling from above. R I P Roy and thank you
Another great song selection!! I remember being a teen when The British Invasion was happening Roy was happening with "Pretty Woman" and my favorite "Crying" along with "Blue Bayou"!! The 60's was an amazing time if you loved music!!
That's Tom Waits sitting by the organ. The three backup singers they keep showing are, left to right, Bonnie Raitt, J. D. Souther (who just passed away; check out his "You're Only Lonely"), and Jennifer Warnes (and what a great voice she has; check out her album of Leonard Cohen songs, like "First We Take Manhattan" or "Famous Blue Raincoat").
Roy the ultimate legend. A legendary song. Also love love "only the lonely". A once in a lifetime voice. Saeed you make our days ( or nights in my case). Appreciate you so much. Greetings from South Africa
There are lots videos of the individual songs from this concert as well as the entire show. Just use the UA-cam search bar for Roy Orbison Black and White Night. JD Souther (RIP) was standing next to Bonnie Raitt. Jackson Browne also sings backup on several songs.
💙💙💙💙💙 .. absolutely beautiful song and unmistakable voice of Roy Orbison, love it !!!!!! Hopefully you will react to more songs from this spectacular concert. I love the addition of Bonnie Raitt 's voice and Bruce Springsteen's guitar. Excellence all around. 🎼🎼🎼🇺🇲🎼🎼🎼
The operatic twin songs "Running Scared" and "It's Over" must have a go. Perhaps check "In Dreams" the original with a clip from David Lynch's "Blue Velvet" where the song appears subversively, which was instrumental in helping Roy Orbison's comeback.
You need to watch the Monument Records concert from 20 years earlier where he does all these songs as a younger man. His voice was even more thrilling back then. Especially great is "Mean Woman Blues".
Though the definition is rather wide in the scope of what constitutes a bayou, in this case he is most likely referring to Louisiana. The bayou is a large, swampy lowlands where wildlife, especially fish, inhabit. You will also find alligators, snakes and many, many birds and insects. Small crustaceans called Crayfish are harvested from there. The water, while not stagnant, is very slow moving so you end up with moss, vines and lush, water loving plants and trees.
Yes please do Linda Ronstadt’s live version of this song from Atlanta 1977. I have always loved Roy Orbison and his music, but I really prefer Linda’s version better !!
Always appreciate your interpretation of these classics. Note 2 things about Roy Orbison songs. 1. Many of his songs break conventional construction rules. 2. His vocal range was exceptional making it difficult for others to match his performing style.
Roy Orbison had one of the most smooth powerful voices. He could sing real high falsetto & also low. Elvis Presley loved Roy's voice. Roy was known for performing while standing motionless & wearing black clothes to match his dyed black hair & dark sunglasses. Roy had lots of hits in the 60's such as "Oh, Pretty Woman", "Crying", "Only The Lonely", "Running Scared", "In Dreams", "Love Hurts", "Leah" etc. In 1988, he co-founded the rock supergroup "Traveling Wilburys" with George Harrison, Bob Dylan, Tom Petty, & Jeff Lynne. They had a lot of great songs such as "Handle With Care", "End Of The Line" etc.
A bayou is a marsh or swampy body of water found along the southern Gulf Coastal states of Arkansas, Louisiana or Texas. While I do love Roy’s laidback version of this song, and we have him to thank for writing it, Linda Ronstadt’s recording is the far more well known (and in my humble opinion - better) performance. Her crystal clear, powerful, belting vocals will leave you stunned!

Roy co-wrote this song and was the first to record it. A lot of great talent backing him up in this performance.
Roy one one of the greats. Now you need to do Linda Ronstadt's version. Live from Atlanta, 1977

Now you must listen to Linda Ronstadt's classic cover of Blue Bayou, probably her biggest-selling hit of all time!
Bayous of Louisiana, marshes, swamps, fishing, crawdads, alligators.....more!!!
“In Dreams” is my out and out favourite by the big “ O”.
He uses his vibrato so well in this. Gods, what a voice.

I forgot Tom Waits was there, on piano! 😊
The last performance before his death this is roughly while he was doing the Traveling Wilburys with four other Legends
Such a unique voice and legendary icon in the industry! You should have a look at Charley Pride as well.
Yes, Charlie Pride is a must!!
