I'm 81 now and was 21 when this first came out. We were so lucky to have been young with this music, Elvis, Righteous Bros, Everly Bros, Tom Jones and soooo many more. They way the world is today, I think us oldies lived in the best of times and definitely had the best music. Love your reactions by the way ❤

You've got a few years on me, but I would agree with most of those you've mentioned. I was never a big fan of Elvis, but my Mom was ALWAYS playing his music, and that could be why I didn't care for him so much. I was just 10 when this came out, but I have a lot of albums from this era. From the late 50s until today, I have 800 vinyl albums, and I told my kids that after I'm gone, if they sell them at a yard sale for $2 each, I will come back and haunt them. 😂😂

Check out the Walker Brothers "The Sun Ain't Gonna Shine Anymore", "Make It Easy On Yourself", "Walking In The Rain". These were hits of 1965 1966. They were of a similar style to the Righteous Brothers, i.e. Bacharach, Phil Spector, Barry, Greenwich song writing and sound. Of course, these "Brothers groups" all did covers of songs originally sung by Dionne Warwick, Mary Wells, The Ronettes et al in the early 1960s.

I'm from Liverpool and, I have read, that this song, was the most listened to/played song, of the 20th century. This song was recorded at Goldstar studios in Hollywood. The video is a lip sync of the studio recording. Goldstar was famous for the quality if its mechanical (no digital audio tricks in the 60's!) reverb/echo chamber. It was simply a very long box with a speaker at one end and a microphone at the other, and its purpose was to delay the 'processed' sound long enough to make the tasty spacious echo sound you hear in this song. Tina Turner's vocals for River Deep Mountain High were also recorded at Goldstar.

This recording was first released in November of 1964 when I was 4 years old. My parents bought the 45 rpm record and played it often so I grew up hearing and loving this song as well as others by the Righteous Brothers.
Two recommended songs by this duo to which you should react are "I Just Want To Make Love To You" and "(You're My) Soul and Inspiration."
This genre of music is called blue-eyed soul. The term "blue-eyed soul" is thought to have first been coined by Philadelphia radio DJ Georgie Woods in 1964 when describing the duo's music.
I'm very glad that new generations are re-discovering and appreciating this music.

January 1965 this record went to #1. These guys were the duo of the 20th century, I don;t care what people say about Hall and Oates and others. No Righteous Brothers first , no Hall and Oates. They were magic. Just months before this, before national fame, they toured with the Beatles on their first official tour of the USA as one of 3 opening acts. They left the tour early, had gotten a recording contract and the next thing you know it's #1. You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin'': The Righteous Brothers Make Pop History. Among its countless achievements, the song was named the 20th century's most-played song on American radio and television by the BMI.

50's/60's had some fantastic songs, 70 years later and they are still just as good. There's a reason why they're called The Golden Oldies. I was born in 75 so 80's is my nostalgia but my parents and older sisters played the oldies so I grew up with these songs.

That was a time for great singers - Andy Williams, Sinatra, Dean Martin, Tom Jones, Walker Brothers, etc...! If you've ever watched 'Dirty Dancing', Bill is singing 'I've Had The Time Of My Life' with Jennifer Warnes..! 😉

This was the studio version dubbed over the live performance and it's much cleaner, of course. But it's worth noting in that original live version they had no in-ear monitors... they had to maintain their pitch and concentration despite the screaming fans and the delayed bounce-back of sound from the venue... which was something performers all had to be able to do....
