My sister went to Great Britain in 1968, and hung around Apple studio, and talked the Beatles coming and going, she met and talked to all of them, and it was Ringo who she talked with more than the others, but she says they were all very friendly.
Watching, but above all, listening. What talent! Pretty Woman was way ahead of its time. Love the way that song was constructed. It's like the middle 8 has 3 parts that flow back into the main riff seamlessly.
Had a chance to meet him after Austin City Limits show in 1988 (met the guy who lived w/him & took care of Roy's kids) offered to take me backstage after the show, but I turned it down then I thought I'd have another opportunity. I wasn't the writer I wanted to be, & didn't want to meet him just as a fan ( regretfully DUMB, I know ) as I heard of his sudden passing just a few weeks later. I was devastated... I'd ❤ him for sooo long. I'm 81 now & on my way out, so I'll see you soon Roy. Sure happy to have bumped in this delightful video ‼️☝️
It's a shame Roy died so suddenly. He was just starting to gain a whole new follwing of younger fans who discovered his talent. His best song as far as I'm concerned was " Blue Angel" from 1962.
Smoking 3 to 4 packs a day, gaining alot of weight, when not touring and losing, alot of weight when Touring, drinking alot of soda and chocolate milk everyday .

This was actually December 1987. Jay mentions the Cinemax special coming out January 3 and an album in March. The Cinemax special appears to have been aired January 3, 1988 and Roy recorded his last album, Mystery Girl, July 1987 - November 1988 (likely delayed because of The Travelling Wilburys)

I was 12 years old and Roy Orbison was doing a small concert at the grand opening of a Community Discount Store near our house. Dad knew I loved his music so he drove me to see him. I was about 10 feet from him as he sang. We were in the parking lot and it was the beginning of his career. He sounded as good as his album,live. Then he wrote in my autograph book,which I still have! He talked with me for about 15 minutes. Such a kind gentleman! I’ll never forget him and how patient he was with this 12 year old fan. I asked about his lyrics,etc. He was just so sweet and his speaking voice was beautiful too. A true southern gentleman. This is wonderful to see him on UA-cam now that I’m 73 and still love his music.❤

September 2024. Roy and k.d. Lang have simply BEAUTIFUL voices and together they have sung a masterpiece. This is surely one of Roy's most meaningful songs. Outstanding.
Its so sad that shortly after this the world lost maybe one of the greatest voices ever. A gentle kind man who dealt with a lot of heartbreak in his life but thankfully didn't quit writing or singing our favorites. For sure this version of CRYING will be played for a long time.
Elvis, early December of 1976, during his very last Las Vegas season, during one of the first shows, introduced Roy Orbison who was in the audience, and Elvis said he had to be good this night because here was the best singer in the world sitting in the audience: Roy Orbison. Elvis then went on to sing a song he hadn’t sung for years, called “What Now My Love”. Elvis was very proud Roy came to see his show. Elvis also sang a line of “Running Scared” during a warm-up for a early 1970’s Nashville studio session.
The even sadder part was that when the guys in the Wilburys looked to replace him, Tom Petty would only consider one guy - Del Shannon. Only Del could sing high like Roy. Sadly Del committed suicide before they could get the teamup to happen.
In 1986 I had the great pleasure and deep honor to see Roy Oribison in concert here in Seattle, he was absolutely amazing, simply amazing! This duet with KD Lang was a passing of Roy's legendary baton to another great singer.
Roy’s last show was at the Front Row Theater in Highland Heights, OH. He passed away just a couple of days after that. My father was at that show. RIP Roy.
My brother and his wife saw Roy’s last show on December 4th 1988 in Highland Heights, Ohio, which is a suburb of Cleveland. They met him after the show at Roy’s tour bus, and he said Roy did appear very tired. However, he sat on the steps of the bus and signed autographs for the fans. My brother spoke to him, and he said Roy was very cordial. It was a memory he cherished. This show actually was recorded and aired on December 7th, 1987, not 1988.

I did too. Austin, Texas August 1988 4 months before his death. It was outdoors in 101 degree heat and he didn't flinch a bit. When he hit those high notes, we all just looked at each other in unreal amazement. What a singer.
I felt fortunate to be able to see Roy at a concert in August of 1988. It was so sad when he passed away a few months later. It was probably the best concert I ever attended and I have been to quite a few. I still listen to him in 2024.
So lucky that I got to see Roy in concert in Augusta Maine before he passed away. What a talent. He got a standing ovation after every song. Luckily I video taped the whole show.

I was a kid listening to rock and roll music on my crystal radio at night in the late fifties and early sixties, listening to Orbison’s great song, Crying. I always loved it. Now I learned that Orbison wrote all of his famous songs, co-writing them with the same guy all along. I’m a lousy musician and have written over twenty forgettable songs, and so I have a deep appreciation for his talent.
He was the best! I saw him perform in 1988 in Cranbrook. His pitch was mind-blowing perfect. Sadly, little did I know it would be one of his last performances. I felt super lucky to have had a chance to ever see him live in my lifetime. I'm a kid from the 60's who grew up appreciating his talent. He had an out of the world 'range'. And did it without today's tech. tricks. Pure talent.
