JW Black is my go-to scotch at non-whisky bars, weddings, resorts, cruses, ect ect. Id sip it over Glenlevit 12 or Glenfiddich 12 any day. Cheers!
I liked it alot. Was surprised how candy these were. Love the mix of Distilleries and casks.
absolutely Jeremy, even better with double black
I just tried Double Black for the first time. It's like $3-4 more than regular Black here in CA (at least at Total Wine). I absolutely love it! I find it more pleasing than Green and Blue!
Outstanding review! This episode is an example of why you are top tier in the whiskey review world! I actually tend to prefer JW Red over Black, but now I need to try Double Black.
Black Label: consistent, tasty, great finish. I always come back to it. Just wished it wasn't as expensive as some single malts.
Walker Red and Walker Black defined Scotch for me for a few decades. For a few dollars more, Walker Green Label is one of my go-to's now.
thats next on the list. Alot of people tell me its the best one.
Another very accurate review, great job.
I had fun tasting these along with your video. I have to work on tasting all these notes your coming up with. Now to try the gold label next.
Great video!! JW black is my go to low budget whisky. Unfortunately JW double black is hard to find in my area.
Johnnie Walker Green Label is my favorite
Awesome review J!!! I have been nervous to explore scotch. But now I'm gonna and this to my list to try. The other one is monkey shoulder. Thanks for the review Jay!!!
Thanks Archie. The black is sweet and definitely easy to sip. I think it's a great way to get into scotch.
These actually sound pretty interesting! Great review as always, Cheers Maverick!
Was surprised how sweet these were! good stuff!
Great review. Like the others have pointed out, love the history you include with your reviews. My first venture into scotch so far has been Monkey Shoulder which the wife and I really like. These two seem like a they will be worth a visit. I used your review on Old Grand Dad 114 to help make a decision to buy it. You didn’t steer me wrong. Great bourbon for $25.
Need more scotch reviews from you, your reviews, being from a bourbon junkie, are far more likely to please my pallet. Thank you!
Definitely will see more soon
@@TheMashandDrum excellent!
Good to see a scotch review, Jason! These two sound like a good option for a pour if the scotch menu is limited in a bar/restaurant. I personally enjoy (and own) the Green Label. 🥃😁
Thats the next one I need to get!
I agree. Green Label is delicious.
I prefer JW green (15) over the 18yr too.
Have enjoyed both - black and the double black ... I have to say though that in recent years I have gyrated more towards the double black!
JWB was the first whiskey I ever had. Won a 1.75ml in a charity gold raffle and hated it at first. Took me two years to drink the bottle, but enjoyed it by the end. It was probably a year after that when I fell in love with bourbon
My fiancee's mom gifted me an unopened bottle of JW black that was bottled in '76. It's 43% ABV and still has the state tax sticker on it. I compared it to the standard JW black and it does taste different! I appreciate all the history and research you put into these vids, too. Keep 'em coming, man!
Thanks man. The higher proof JW must be really unique. Cheers man!
Love the black more then the double black i need to try the green
Me too!
These are often my go to Scotch when I am out and about at bars, it's what I drank to get used to Scotche in general when I first started drinking whiskey straight. I've had a few of the other types too but I always enjoy my old fallback of JW Black when my options are limited. I think the ones I enjoyed best were the Platinum and Gold, but I can't always find those as easily as I'd care to. 🖖😎🥃
I can see why. I was pleasantly surprised by these. Cheers.
Black label opened the door to scotch whisky for me. Single malts after this blended scotch it’s a good pour.
These are both good and affordable best part. They are always available and go sale often. Double is my favorite of the two. But that 18 yr 😍 bellissima
Gotta try that 18! I know your a fan of these. Cheers
The Mash and Drum definitely get that sample box if you see it
The JW black label has special powers, actually. The only year I won my fantasy baseball pool happened to be when I was sipping this whisky on draft Day. More seriously, in a blind tasting with 5 JWs, the black came in 2nd only to the blue (it was basically a toss up though). Cheers Jason
Yes Im looking to try the whole lineup now. This tasting got me curious! Cheers Mark!
Green Label is my standout favorite. It's so good
Hi Jason! Thanks for the review. Can you tell me what kind of glasses you're using in this video?
They are called Copita glasses or stemmed tulips.
Great episode! Where did you purchase that whiskey glassware?
Amazon. They are called Copita glasses. Or stemmed tulips.
@@TheMashandDrum Thank you!
I know you're a bourbon guy at heart, and just exploring Scotch Whisky, but if you want to check out a blended whisky that would be considered more high end, check out some of the releases from Compass Box. Some of these command a hefty price tag, but they are well worth it.
Oh Im a huge fan of compass box. I have several bottles that Im hoping to get into more soon. cheers!
I am nearing the end of my Dbl Bl and gotta say I liked it but if I’m in the mood for a Smokey scotch I reach for my Ardbeg first. A friend was kind enough to give me a sample of the Black and Green and I compared all three one night. Green won out, followed by DblBl, then Black for me. Although I would drink any of the three. I do love that DblBl bottle though
Green is next on my list!
Island green so expensive 😭
Almost the price of coall la
Smart pricing collaboration I must say very smart
Green for a few more dollars is the play.
👍
I’m just getting into peated scotches and I hardly get any smoke on JWblack. I guess I might be a peat head. 😂
Would the double black be a good introduction to smoke for a new scotch drinker
Absolutely
👍👍
So yesterday I tried JW Black for Father’s Day. This was the first time I tried scotch. Previously I had been experimenting with various bourbons. The difference in flavor profile of the JW Black compared to bourbon had me really enjoying the JW Black. Having enjoyed the JW Black, what other scotch would you recommend?
Since you like that little bit of smoke, try highland park 12 year or bunnahabhain 12 year. Both are great.
@@TheMashandDrum Thanks. I do have quite a few waiting for me to try. I picked up the JW sampler pack so it came with the Black, Gold Reserve, 18 year Gold bottle, and the Blue label. Only tried the Black so far. Then I got a Glenfiddich sample pack (12, 15, and 18 year), a Glenmorangie sample pack (10 yr bourbon cask, 12 year Sherry cask, 14 year Port finish, and Sauternes Rare cask), a small 50 ml bottle of The Glenlivet 12 Double Oak, and a 50 ml Dewar’s White label to dip my feet in the scotch world. I have heard of many many others but, appreciate your opinion and recommendations.
@@JamesWilson-hw9bv yeah all those you tried are awesome. But since you like that hint of smoke I think you'll enjoy my recommendations. Oban scotch is another great option. Personally I think the JW green is the best in the lineup.
@@TheMashandDrum I haven’t tried all those others yet. Black is the only scotch so far I’ve tried. I just have them and plan to try them as time goes on. You aren’t alone in preferring the JW Green label. The Whisky Tribe channel did a review and said the same thing. CHEERS!!🥃
I never tried Johnnie Walker... I want to buy their tasting collection with Black, Gold, Platinum and Blue.
Edit: Gold Label Reserve
Yeah I see that alot too. I may grab that soon enough. The green isnt included and alot of people tell me the green is the best one. Only one way to find out. Cheers.
The Mash and Drum definitely pick it up. I’d like to hear your thoughts on the blue label
$26 for 750mL black? Damn where I live they charge $50 plus tax. Terrible!
Every time I drink the Black I wish I had the Green instead.
I have to try the green next!
@@TheMashandDrum Absolutely! I prefer it over the Blue.
@@gohabs365 Ive had the blue before and wasnt impressed. Now I HAVE to get the green, lol
Green is where it's at for me... Every other Johnny Walker is disappointing in comparison.
Thats my next!
