1792 Full Proof legit may be the best overall bourbon readily available on shelves. (It’s readily available for me, anyway). It has an awesome price point, a beautiful bottle, and the flavor profile tastes like a blend of all the different legacy distilleries into one bottle, and is so well balanced, like you said. It’s Goldilocks. Does it blow me away like a C923? No, but I don’t think it needs to.

I have been able to get 1792 Full Proof regularly for about 40 bucks. I grab a bottle whenever I come across one and find it awesome. I can only imagine how a store pick would match up with what I’m finding on the shelf. It’s still one of my go to bottles for the price! Cheers
I bought a 1792 FP SP from a reputable store in KS. It's probably a top 40 bottle. My buddy got a different store pic in the same town, and it's a top 5 all time bottle. Wild how much the 1792 FP differ from one another.
Cpl days ago had my 1st 1792 ever & it's a SiB Pick $45. It's really good, but have no other 1792 to compare it to. Though it is probably the best (or tied) $45 bottle I ever had. As good or better than 2 ECBP batches. Better than the JD BP barrel I have. No banana, but beautiful sweet vanilla on this. Thinking of getting a cpl more bottles, as who knows if/when I'll be able to find any pick at $45.

Indie bottlers like Calumet have proved that Barton liquid can be some of the best bourbon out there. Unfortunately, cask variation is massive. I've had 1792 picks that I would buy again and again and ones with a sip out of them sitting on my shelf for years. Huge variation.

Hahaha....Literally just poured one and opened up the computer. I've got a local store pick as well as one from the total wine here and both are excellent. Thought you were crazy on that vid where you were dogging it. Great to see the update and give it time. The ethanol totally balances out on everyone I've had. Cherry, chocolate, tobacco, leather are prominent on both of mine. My wife where's Lost Cherry perfume from Tom Ford and every time she puts it on I want a pour of 1792 Full Proof.
Barton actually has one of my favorite overall profiles. I love it. You'll find it in some other brands that source from Barton, like Calumet Farms and Sam Houston, IIRC.
Just picked up a bottle last weekend in Ashland KY from Good Spirits. Paid $69.99 but it's the 1st time I've ever seen it outside of their crap small batch. I'll likely go back to get the B&Bond to add to my collection. Thanks for the great review fellow drummer!
Haven't had a pick myself, hell got my first full proof this year but dollar for dollar i find that full proof bottle to be great. At $50 it's well worth it imo. Definitely will by a pick when i come across one. Cheers!
So many people sleep on 1792 FP. Its got proof, its got flavor, its a great value for the money. I have several store picks in my bar at home from various states and I will usually buy one whenever I see them.
Love the whole 1792 lineup. Haven't had SW, PF, or HR, but the others are incredible. And when you can get a store pick, they generally are even better. I have a SB store pick that is out of this world for a 98 proofer.

My single barrel store pick was disjointed and too hot at first, but after only a few days it smoothed out and lengthened with a lot of great high proof flavors. Glad you liked yours. Cheers!

I think these are underrated for sure. I got a regular FP recently that was a real banger. Plus I have a few picks and one I think is like rich and fruity more like Stagg and one is more nutty like a good KC 120 proof bourbon pick. And at 50 ish bucks I think they're a great value.

After this review I revisited 1792 FPSP from Warehouse Liquors in Chicago, and it was absolutely delicious! But then I added about 20% of 1792 12y to my that pour, and I enjoyed it tremendously! 😋🥃 It made it even more complex and less proofy. A pour I’d like to present to any bourbon lover whenever we do flights! Should blend as much of it I can, and have it as a benchmark to what enjoyable pour should taste! 😅😋😋🥃🥃
Jason, you weren't wrong. The prior bottle of 1792 you had a pour from was not to your liking. Now you have different whiskey in the same bottle & you like it much more.. Thanks for the reviews though, you saved me from taking a chance on a 1792 shelfer at $50-60 & just got a SiB $45 from a very well respected picker/group & it's great! Good things come to those who wait & put in research time
I’m with you. I haven’t liked any 1792 because the alcohol burn messes with the flavor and the experience. In the last few months, I’ve picked up two store picks that I really liked.

1792 fp store picks are tasty to me. To each their own. I'm not crazy about WT products, and I'm sure that is an unpopular opinion. Who cares. Drink what you like and how you like. Cheers. That being said, glad you came around. Those are the tasting notes I get on mine.
I wonder if there’s a subtle shift in the Barton profile happening much like Turkey, but it seems to be getting less banana-y and more dark and rich. We did a 1792FP and we didn’t get banana in a single barrel in the bunch. It was kinda shocking. In talks with people who have picked there recently, they said next to no banana either. If Barton starts to shift toward this darker profile then I’m all for it!
Gotta keep the 1792 offering in rotation. The small batch and Asw fiddler were my gateway juice in my bourbon journey. The store pick full proof are butterscotch and maple bombs. Trick is letting it breathe for at least a week. After opens that's when the magic happens......

We did a blind of 4 1792 Full Proof picks and after the video I said, I don’t need to ever buy another. Well, then a 1792 FP crushed all the competition in my bottle share. Phenomenal.
1792 FP holds up incredibly well against other high proofers. Its bold with nice easy to pick out fruit characteristics and enough oak to let you know it means business. Its 45 bucks in pa right now, and beats bottles twice its price.

Finally pulled the trigger on this bottle recently and just popped it open after your review! For the money really good! Definitely get the brown sugar and banana note. I really enjoy that banana note!
This one also always drank hot for me. Maybe it does need a touch of water. I’ve actually started to add 2-3 drops of water to most of my whiskey JUST to see if it gets better or worse. I think that most of us bourbon drinkers tend to write off adding water all together, but I’m finding that some whiskies really do benefit from a hint of water.
I like my regular 1792 FP but I also happen to know the store that picked that bottle and they have some PHENOMENAL store picks. Can’t wait to crack my EHT SiB they picked recently

1st experience when it won awards a few years back i thought it drank hot , this year I too have tried to store picks and both were amazing pours 1792 store picks in 2023-24 are way better than what I had 3 or 4 years ago
I like Barton/1792/Calumet in general, but the FP pick I have open atm is an absolute banger. Stupid good for $50. Stores locally have also been flooded with FP and the bib over the past couple of months.
I bought 3 bottles when Jim Murray rated it as his world whiskey of the year 2020..still have one left. Bought a store pick last year and a new standard release this year and I'd say both have more alcohol punch then the 2020 batch but they all have good aspects. Benchmark full proof is a good comparison but I've preferred the 1792s blind
You gotta figure out how to get a batched full proof and do a comparison. I have only had a single barrel and it was a complete hitter. From my experience outside of regular 1792, I’ve only seen Barton products on the coasts. I’d imagine that they are still catching up from the warehouse falling apart.
7/8 In Bloomington, MN, may still have some of these on hand. I was chatting up the folks there about how they do their picks, though, and they said Barton very recently just started sending the bottles without giving them any chance to sample and choose a barrel themselves. Kind of a shame, since I really trust their palates.
Living in Virginia as an ABC control state these don’t pop up often but they do find their into allocated drops 3-4 times a year as SB picks. I always have 1 plus a backup on hand because they simply SLAP!

Had 2 great SPs of the FP. Both were very good. The first one 4 years ago was Top 10 for me that year.
Store picks are really where this one shines. The regular bottles are still good but I’ve had two picks that were just excellent in every way.

I was chatting up the folks there about how they do their picks, though, and they said Barton very recently just started sending the bottles without giving them any chance to sample and choose a barrel themselves. Kind of a shame, since I really trust their palates.

Living in Virginia as an ABC control state these don’t pop up often but they do find their into allocated drops 3-4 times a year as SB picks. I always have 1 plus a backup on hand because they simply SLAP!
