Just picked one up today for 237$ NO BS. I tried a pour over the summer at a bar & I am absolutely overjoyed. I can’t wait to share with friends and family this holiday season. Cheers 🥃
Walked into my Festival grocery store yesterday, and the lady was putting this on the shelf at msrp. Couldn’t believe it. Saving for a special occasion for sure.
“Punchy” is a great way to describe 13 vs 15. Both are great. Was lucky to grab a 15 today at MSRP. Think I prefer it to the 13 but both are great. Awesome review as always!
I got lucky late last year by finding a Parkers 10 year rye for SRP, but oh do I wish that luck was saved for a Russell's 15. Fingers crossed. Cheers to your success and that glorious bourbon in front of you!
I would love to try it, and would probably buy it, if I ever see it at MSRP. But we all know that’s never going to happen. I’ll just stick with ECBP C923 when I want something high age. It costs hundreds less and I was fortunate enough to be able to back it up (my area of Long Island NY got them a good 6 months after release, but were selling them as MSRP. Total win!)
Fortunate to have picked this one up today at MSRP. Will be opening it up next week for my monthly whisky/cigar club. Theme will be best of the quarter, lets see how it does vs some other new releases.
Tried it and liked it a lot - price aside. An excellent bourbon. Though I liked the oak notes, I found them to be so concentrated and dark that along with the proof (which struck me closer to something 125 and carried more heat than I wanted) they dominated the other notes too much. Still got other things (cherry licorice, date, vanilla, dark chocolate) and a great finish. But they just weren't opening up enough and were overshadowed too much by the age. Would love to buy a pour again (at 27) but I'm out at 250 a bottle on this one. For comparison, I went to a 4R small batch ltd ed (135th) after and enjoyed that more since it drank a lot more open and well integrated for me. RR15 was still excellent and well crafted, but I think there's better for up to 200 for me, personally.
Thank you for drinking. I was at a local store, and the owner said he had 3 bottles and someone bought 2 at his $399.99 price. On my local Chicago Craigslist, someone posted that they 2 bottles for sale for $500.
I will absolutely will leave it on the shelf for someone willing to pay over MSRP. I will stick to the RR store picks and happy with that. Great review and cheers!
I happily paid $20 for a pour at my Liquor store/ Bourbon Bar. Now I’m committed to finding a bottle. It might be better than Micthers 10 year which is a high bench mark.
It dropped in Wisconsin on Monday and a couple guys had already posted about finding it just out on a store shelf. They obviously wouldn’t say the name or locations. My whiskey bar had it by Wednesday and I had a pour of it that night. I’m turkey through and through and Jason is on the mark with that turkey funk, that “Russell’s magic” from turning knobs on the spirit stills. I don’t have some crazy palate, but it’s definitely better than my calumet 16, and several Nashville barrel company pics I have. Unfortunately, I know I’ll never see a bottle on the shelf at anything near $250.
Well, now I’m happy that I won my local stores raffle. I got a call saying I could buy one at retail. No bundles or anything. I can’t wait to enjoy it. I hope I find the same tasting notes.
I had a pour of Russell's 13 on my birthday. My friend bought me a 2oz pour. Was worth every penny of 35$ even if it wasn't my money lol. I think this has to be incredible.
Found this today at a VA ABC random drop. They released a lot here. I got to a store 30 mins after the email went out and there were still 2 left. From what I been reading in local groups is the 250 msrp price is making some ppl pass on it. Which means this batch might be more obtainable for us folks winning to spend msrp
Good review Jason. I'm in Kentucky for three more days and would love to find a bottle. Max on this would be 350.00 for me. And I would share it with all my bourbon buddies if I found one. Cheers
I’m still looking for my first 13 without overpaying secondary. If I see it on the shelf buying all day long, not sure I’m convinced it’s worth secondary for me as you mention it’s thinner and more on the spice side. Thanks Jason may be the closest I get to trying it.
Do you feel like the water being added has less to do with proofing it down and more to do with trying to mellow out the oak. A 15 year (minimum) Kentucky product can definitely take on a lot of tannic oak so maybe they proofed it down a little to help with that? Either way, loved the review!
Great review Jason. Was not able to get a Russel 13 without paying a stupid price for it but I did get a poor. The bad thing is that I had it with a pour of George T Stagg which blew it away!
Thanks for the review Jason! I’ve still got about half a bottle left of my RR13 Batch #2, was fun to hear your thoughts against the RR15. Like some others have said, would love to know what you think of RR15 vs Single Rickhouse CNF.
How would you compare it to the jump from Jack 10 to Jack 12? I landed an R13 last year and I didn’t care for it, but I also think Jack 10 is one dimensional compared to the 12. I landed an R15 yesterday and I’m on the fence about opening it or finding a new owner.
The price point around me is why I will never hunt RR 13 or 15 or any other WT product. The alternatives you mentioned are just as expensive and just as allocated. Cheers
Nice! I thought I would never get RR13 but ended up getting 2 bottles and RR CNF Rickhouse and I managed to get 3 bottles! Never know! I bought single barrel pick this week for 75.00 bucks and it’s better than the 13yr and really close to the Rickhouse, going back tomorrow for a back up! Cheers!
RR15 went from a probable to a will buy, if I can find it at or close to MSRP. I live in OH so I’m sure the taters are already lining up. I’ll be interested to see where it settles on secondary. Initial prices will be crazy but expecting it to come down, just how much?
Jason have you every tried Bib & Tucker Double Oak? I have been told it is better then Woodford Reserve Double Oak. I am new to Bourbons and still have a lot to learn. Thank You in advance for any input you may have.
Rumor is when Eddie went through the barrels they had some hazmat barrels it was up and down all over the place and they didn't get as much juice as they hoped some barrels had 14 gallons in them :-( nevertheless I believe this was their reasoning behind proofing it and not giving us a single barrel
Was able to get RR15 at 249.99 MSRP at a Virginia ABC at the last state wide controlled drop. As a Rye fan, It’s the greatest bourbon I've ever tasted. Period. I had the Michters 10 Year Rye in my hand but opted for the RR15. So glad I did. But seriously... DON'T PAY MORE THAN 300 for... well anything.
I'm not going to disagree that Russell's 13 and even maybe this Russell's 15th might be on the different level but some of those Russell's picks for 70ish are just as fantastic. And I'm not looking at $300 plus dollars.
$400 seems a little crazy for a bottle in my opinion. Unless your plan is to hold this, and hope to one day sell it for thousands, it just doesn’t make sense. Plenty of great options in the $80-$150 price range that can hang with RR15. I’m sure JD14 will give it a run for its money, at a price point of $120-$150.
It’s $217 wholesale (on 1 case, if you only get 1 bottle from the distributor you pay $2 broken case fee) here in California so the $250 MRSP is hilarious to me
Nice review, J! The price on this and the 13 are crazy. I just did a WT tasting: RR6yr rye, 2 Priv Brl Store picks (Tyr Q & B), both Rare Breeds brbn and rye, 101 SiB rye store pick, KY Spirit and RR 13 btch 4. Of the 20 beginner to well seasoned attendees, no one was super impressed or picked the 13 as their fave. The KY Spirit and Rare Breed Rye won (at aprx a fifth of the price). Go figure. It's all just so nuanced and hype ridden. Cheers!
Ya know…..and this just proves to me why i have switched to Rums. I can get a premium good sipping rum that is 18 YEARS OLD for like less than $80. I am definitely a bourbon guy, but alot of these are just outside my price range. i have never tried any russels reserve, and i should probably try their 12 year. I can get that at total wine and more for less than $70!

This last week has blessed me with my first grandchild, an amazing new job, and a bottle of RR15 at MSRP. Life is great! Awesome review as well!
CNF vs. RR15 has to be the next double bass!
That I want to see!!
I got two from the distillery this morning. Waited in line for a while but was happy to bring them home👍
I really like and agree your final breakdown. Whenever I already tried or I haven't tried, those are very informative.

I see 13 all over for $199.99

What about finding it at MSRP?
You will likely never see it at MSRP.
Agreed! I've found a few really good rr store pics the past 6 months.
Ditto, i stopped chasing these wallet drainers, just can’t do it.

RR15 vs Generations is the matchup we need
15 year versus 10 year? Why?

I just got finished doing a review of this, and I was thinking plums, but dates is right 100%. Such a great pour.
I just managed to score a bottle at SRP'ish price ($270). I can't wait to try it!

I’m still looking for my first 13 without overpaying secondary. If I see it on the shelf buying all day long, not sure I’m convinced it’s worth secondary for me as you mention it’s thinner and more on the spice side. Thanks Jason may be the closest I get to trying it.
I just got the HH18 last week. No doubts about wanting this one if I see it around me. CHEERS
Can't wait for the 5-way blind later this year with RR15, RR13, and all three Single Rickhouse releases.
Do you feel like the water being added has less to do with proofing it down and more to do with trying to mellow out the oak. A 15 year (minimum) Kentucky product can definitely take on a lot of tannic oak so maybe they proofed it down a little to help with that? Either way, loved the review!
For sure. Whatever reasons Eddie was proofing it down in sure oak and balance was one of them
You have the best intro music on UA-cam bro. So being 🌊 watered down reduced punch regardless of being higher abv compared to cask strength
Have you tried RR13 batch 1? That’s the favored 13 year as I’m sure you know and curious how the 15 year compares to RR13 B1 laser code LL/JD
Great review Jason. Was not able to get a Russel 13 without paying a stupid price for it but I did get a poor. The bad thing is that I had it with a pour of George T Stagg which blew it away!
Love my RR13 B4 and SR CNF. Hopefully will have an opportunity to find one at srp but always tough in NC

I'm sure it's good but there isn't any chance I buy a bottle for $250 when I can get ECBP for $75.
Love Russell’s! Had the 13 but the 15 is out is my league!
Picking mine up Monday. Hope everyone gets one 🙏
where you picking it at?
Another great review. Thanks, Jason!
Sounds great! Will never see.
Depends on what batch of russels 13 you are talking about.
Really like RR 13 and hope I can get a RR 15. 🥃
I’ve been waiting for this, unfortunately I probably won’t see one for under $900. Love the Hardin’s Creek comp, just enjoyed some Clermont, so good!!

I doubt it with this one. This is basically Pappy 15 from a different distillery.
I do hope to get one. But at that price it would be hard for me to justify a backup... Enjoy... Cheers Everyone 🥃🥃
Fun fact, this isn't a highly allocated whiskey in IA (state control). Fingers crossed, I get one or two. Turkey is my favorite

I saw one for $600 today, but just couldn’t bring myself to do it.
Why do I have to love any and all wild turkey special releases?!? I cannot get them and they are outrageous!
But it won't hit a single shelf in Arizona...pricing should also be based on cost to barrel and then barrel loss. See Garrison Cowboy pricing.
Haven't found the 13 yet, or not willing to pay the marked up price!
