OK you joke about Magearna being a menace in singles but once you look past everything it’s done to OU when it’s legal there, it’s actually been a rather healthy stabilizing presence in gen 9 Ubers UU
The thing is, there WAS a regional held in series 13. The Taipei regional in October 2022 was the only event held during that time, and it was won by Chuang Yu-peng running Kyogre/Zacian/Yveltal/Dialga/Lunala/Regieleki.

the only mythicals I am missing are Zeraora (I was on break during its release in gen 7 and I completely skipped gen 8, only got Sword at the end of march this year) and Zarude (which is funny since I am basically the only person that remembers it exists) Good news is if Z-A is like Legends Arceus, Diancie, Hoopa and Volcanion will likely be all available in it permanently (even if you need a save file from another game)
@@wolfekupo5651Hopefully. It feels like then Gen 6 mythicals are some of the more elusive ones. I've managed to miss every opportunity for Volcanion which is the one I had the most interest in
What this video has taught me is that I have very different tastes than other competitive players. Dynamax is my favorite gimmick and I loved the series that banned the top ten most popular Pokémon.
You know, a VGC series with a ban list is conceptually good. But yeah, the way they did it was shitty. Some Pokemon are just bad for the health of the game, I'd like to see them try it again (but better, which is honestly a pipe dream tbh). There is no world where Gigalith being the only sand setter is a good one.
Sometimes I agree with this (god I hate seeing Urshifu and Amoongus everywhere), but at the same time, VGC with no ban list is quite diverse and has a lot of variation. Yesterday, we saw a Umbreon make top 4 and a Chandelure make top 16, and this is considered a relatively more centralized format than the previous 2, so I’m not sure bans will improve much.
i would like to see it for another rotation at least, while just banning specific pokemon like Urshifu and Incineroar. temporary rulesets can give way to some interesting metagame diversity. not just diversity in what pokemon are viable, but diversity in the rulesets themselves. similsr to the variety of smogon other metagames, like STABMons and AlmostAnyAbility.
The only way that I have seen to get mythicals out of event time is to play Pokemon GO and give them money(I still got some mythicals free because of events), for example if you pay 18€ now you can get marshadow, before you could get a victini and a shiny mew, it's scummy because you basically have to buy the mythical, and the only way to transfer them to the base games is to have a friend in Pokemon Home that will trade you theirs for yours(unless you find someone generous enought to trade their mythical with you).
As I remember it, the mythicals format was super fun to watch, but I never wanted to play it because I didn't know how to get half those mons myself, and I knew I wouldn't be very good at it anyway. That said, I wouldn't mind seeing them. Bring back a variation of it at the very end of each game's life cycle if it works out like it did between gen 8 and 9.
Dynamax adding HP allows players to not sacrifice their best card if they lose lead. Tera type allows you to change your type once, and mega evolution is a temporary better stat boost for one pokemon. I like hyper offense with some risk involved to win the game very early. I have access to so many mythical that sometimes I get bored knowing Pokémon home exists...(I practiced during the pandemic really hard)
The VGC banlist format sounds like it needed to ban more pokemon. Imagine if every week throughout the series, they banned the top 10 most used pokemon. A meta would never develop, because anything popular would be gone in a week.
They should try implementing alternative formats for online play. Maybe have a standard format and some alternative formats like one with a ban list or one without the generational gimmick(gigantamax, megas, terra, etc.)
NGL making a metagame out of taking the top 15 most used pokemon and banning them actually sounds pretty cool. Incineror, landorus, tornadus, fluttermane, urshifu, ogerpon, dondola and its little friend, rillaboom, iron hands, farigaraf, Kingambit, annihilape and more all banned sounds like the game....could actually be fun to experiment entirely new setups with instead of having to do the "I want to try a pokemon I like so I slap it into a team of 5 of the most popular, dont actually use it the entire time and say the build is off meta" TL;DR- imagine a world where everyone had less than 570 effective value of stats, reasonable typing and not insane move pools. Looks beautiful, doesnt it? Although yeah I agree with everything you said in the video it needs to be done with more care and actually assessing who is getting banned. IMO Ithink just Fluittermane and Urshifu need to go and that would change the metagame to an acceptable degree. Not having to specifically build because of those two would give so many more options. 15 is too wide of a net to cast and would just be taking out a lot of support pokemon that arent the actual problem. But top 2-3 removed for one of the regulations might be fun. But what do I know? A VGC tiering system could be cool, but just Overused and Underused. Would make a lot of people happy to be able to get their favorite toys out and not watch it get killed immediately by a 135 speed, 135 power moonblast.
I’m clearly in the minority but I loved Dmax & Gmax my pokemon. It was also the first time I got into competitive. Pokémon that made me try the other formats, but sword, and shield was my favorite. Competitively speaking
Can you do a history of "themed" formats and competitions, like that time they had an online comp that was Halloween themed? That was SO fun and different. I think it was called Spooky Cup
I am new to ranked battle. Need some options on my team. Scizor (safety goggles) Hisuian Zoroark (choice spec+trick) Regieleki (covert cloak) Vaporeon (acid armor/baton pass) Blood moon (assault vest) Zamazenta (body press/wide gaurd) Basically trick specs onto set-up mons while passing acid armor to zemazenta. Regi speed control scizor for flutter and bloodmoon sweeper/ghost killer Been winning about half my matches, but wondering what I could be doing better. Not to good at predictions or big brain reads.
I hope we get a "chaos format" after this worlds bc reg G has been out for a bit. The format I really want to see is the base SV dex: base game + dlc dexes only, no paradox forms or legendaries. Basically reg A if the DLC was included at launch
@@mukatte4755 I mean that in this format there was not a cap on the amount of legendaries you could bring. You could bring 6 restricted mons and not even one mythical. It was effectively, a no holds barred format. If there would have been a limit on the number of restricted’s and mythical’s you could bring to battle, then it would have been fun. In this format it was really common to see teams w 6 restricted’s and not even 1 mythical. Which pretty much defeats the purpose of the format in the first place.
I liked dynamax :( it was certainly better than z-moves at least and it was less centralizing from what I could see compared to megas. Being able to do stuff like dynamax whimsicott to win a tourney is sick! I could understand why people didn't like it much but as a casual player and a frequent viewer I loved it
People confuse usuage with over-centralisation when talking about smogon bans all the time. In all reality suspect test rarely consider usuage at all. I think a big part of this is the trickle down effect of the smogon tournament scene. The raw usuage that pumps mons into top 10 usage comes from regular play on the OU ladder, where as the meta shifting teambuilding typically occurs between tournament players trying to find even the smallest team building edge they can. So something does well in the tournaments and next thing you know, everyone on ladder has seen it and is using it. However, sometimes the smogon vets who manage the meta will catch things between this transistion from tournment to ladder, recognise it as over-centralising and remove it before it has a chance to climb up the usuage stats. That said, it would be interesting to see what a similar 'top 10' ban would have on OU. A core component of what smogon is looking for what they ban is how much a pokemon's precence limits team building. Would snapping the top 10 OU mons out of existance limit team building the same way it did in vgc?
Snapping the current top 10 OU would be interesting and make for a pretty chaotic format for a while haha. One of the first mons that will really rise up is Iron Treads as Great Tusk (and Lando-T) would be gone so it'd be the defacto new best spinner and ground pivot. Darkrai and Deo-S would both probably explode in usage since no speed booster I-Val or Dragapult to speedcreep and overshadow them, and no Glowking to stifle them. Kingambit being gone would be celebrated by a lot of the casual players.... until setup sweepers suddenly start cropping up all over without a 5 fallen sucker punch to keep them in line (Volc was just banned recently but there are plenty like Latias that will become an issue). Oh and Gholdengo being gone means that Corviknight might debate slotting Defog again, Mandibuzz would probably also rise from UU to deal with Ogerpon-Wellspring which suddenly finds itself one of the fastest and strongest in the metagame and can Defog as well (the only 2 good ones left since gen 9's removal of transfer movesets and lack of defog tm destroyed its distribution). Overall a very strange meta indeed
They should’ve allowed deoxys, for the oras and gen 7 formats, keldeo for the series after crowned tundra, and now meloetta for the series after indigo disk
iirc at one point during series 6 they announced players cup 2 qualifier, and they made that be played in series 5 rather than series 6, so even TCPI knew not many people liked the new format
i wish S6 was done in a more sane way. TCPi really did the laziest way of making a banlist and it backfired. if we instead just banned specific pokemon like smogon, like Incineroar, Urshifu, etc, it would have been a lot more interesting
i think they really ought to make mythicals accessible to everyone and allow us to use them in vgc (with arceus added as a restricted), it would add a lot of variety. e-killer arceus with clear amulet or arceus with the type plates would be significant new options for restricted formats, deoxys-speed would be nice counterplay to speed crept mons like zacian and caly-s, deoxys-attack is one of the scariest attackers of all time but drops to quick attack, and all the other fun ones like zeraora, victini, magearna, volcanion, marshadow and meltmetal just to name a few would add a lot of very unique options. zeraora would be a funny partner for ground types since it makes normal moves turn to electric with plasma fists, magearna is a great trick room setter, hoopa hits through protect but only with one move, etc
Darkrei is still OP The Dark Void is still OP It needs to be weakened again. Because there are enough ways to improve its accuracy. (Gravity/Sweet Syrup) Because 50% accuracy is actually way too good for a double sleep train. If you're lucky, all 2 of your opponent's Pokemon will sleep and you'll have an incredible advantage. Dark Void is still OP, for doubles.
@@danielbischoff133 you're not wrong, but there is enough counterplay now that it would be manageable. back when smeargle terrorised gen 6 there was no terrain, but now there's two terrains that deny sleep completely. darkrai has no matchup into miraidon and would be borderline unusable if the tapus came back, especially since electric terrain has gotten a gigantic buff with the future paradox mons being released. the only consistent way to get a gravity buffed dark void on turn one would be using scarf indeedee-m as a partner, and that's way too much commitment for a gimmicky strategy that doesn't even guarantee two sleeps

I really wanted to use some ultra beasts with terastal, even just for a little bit. It'd just be fun to have the chaos of them without so many 4x weaknesses for a little bit

I'm gonna be real, having an official format where the top most used Pokemon are just banned is kinda cool. As a spectator, it means we finally get to see some different Pokemon being used that might not have otherwise been considered for a VGC setting. Though that really only works if they ban more than like, 10 Pokemon.
Anyway, they should give us an official way to play Little Cup in SV or Z-A.
I wish I'd gotten all the mythicals back when they were releasing them all again leading into generation 7. I only got Mew, Celebi and Jirachi from it, and I lost my Deoxys from OrAs. But between PLA and the Darkrai event from earlier this year, I'm only missing Deoxys and the gen 6 mythicals. I even have both the original event Zeraora from GameStop and the shiny one from the raid event
the only mythicals I am missing are Zeraora (I was on break during its release in gen 7 and I completely skipped gen 8, only got Sword at the end of march this year) and Zarude (which is funny since I am basically the only person that remembers it exists)
Good news is if Z-A is like Legends Arceus, Diancie, Hoopa and Volcanion will likely be all available in it permanently (even if you need a save file from another game)
@@wolfekupo5651Hopefully. It feels like then Gen 6 mythicals are some of the more elusive ones. I've managed to miss every opportunity for Volcanion which is the one I had the most interest in
@@wolfekupo5651 I don't even remember how but i have 4 legitimate Zarudes lol. 3 of them are the Dada Zarude. Unfortunate that it's hot garbage
This was the only format I've ever personally laddered in, and it was just to get the Master Rank ribbon for my shiny Mew.
5:35 "Based pokemon, Cringe pokemon, truly strong trainers win with their favorites" - Karen, Brainrot type elite 4 trainer
What this video has taught me is that I have very different tastes than other competitive players. Dynamax is my favorite gimmick and I loved the series that banned the top ten most popular Pokémon.
I got jumpscared seeing myself appear in this video at 1:16
Series 13 is why i started playing vgc and continue to til today. I look back on the chaos fondly.
You missed Sword/Shield Series 10. The series where the main mechanic of the generation (Dynamax) was banned
Tbh I think the idea of banning the top ten most used Pokemon is a bad long term idea but I feel like it was a cool way to keep the game fresh
Ah yes my favorite non terrain or weather battle field effect, sun room.

I first started thinking about PvP during Gen 8, Series 13. I was very confused
4:58 Wolfey would like to know your location.

3:17 Meanwhile Walking Wake and Iron Leaves:
The only way that I have seen to get mythicals out of event time is to play Pokemon GO and give them money(I still got some mythicals free because of events), for example if you pay 18€ now you can get marshadow, before you could get a victini and a shiny mew, it's scummy because you basically have to buy the mythical, and the only way to transfer them to the base games is to have a friend in Pokemon Home that will trade you theirs for yours(unless you find someone generous enought to trade their mythical with you).
It went from "time when gamefreak unbanned mythical pokemon" to "different formats of vgc" real quick
Melmetal getting the recognition it deserves
5:35 This is literally the best thing you've ever said in any video you've ever uploaded.

Total Dynamax Death
Having dinner while watching your videos just hits different 💯
Dynamax adding HP allows players to not sacrifice their best card if they lose lead. Tera type allows you to change your type once, and mega evolution is a temporary better stat boost for one pokemon. I like hyper offense with some risk involved to win the game very early. I have access to so many mythical that sometimes I get bored knowing Pokémon home exists...(I practiced during the pandemic really hard)
Glacial Lance's animation goes incredibly hard.
The VGC banlist format sounds like it needed to ban more pokemon. Imagine if every week throughout the series, they banned the top 10 most used pokemon. A meta would never develop, because anything popular would be gone in a week.
gen 8 was my introduction to competitive vgc, i liked dynamax... i didn't realize it was so hated.. :(
They should try implementing alternative formats for online play. Maybe have a standard format and some alternative formats like one with a ban list or one without the generational gimmick(gigantamax, megas, terra, etc.)
Good to know that I have one thing over Moxieboosted, which is having every Mythical and Legendary.
Hope to see some of this in SV too
That was peak vgc imo.
Dynamax was really good in doubles, I'm surprised you are hearing otherwise
Good but not hated, that's what he meant
2:30 Ah yes, my favourite month "Septemer"
NGL making a metagame out of taking the top 15 most used pokemon and banning them actually sounds pretty cool.
Incineror, landorus, tornadus, fluttermane, urshifu, ogerpon, dondola and its little friend, rillaboom, iron hands, farigaraf, Kingambit, annihilape and more all banned sounds like the game....could actually be fun to experiment entirely new setups with instead of having to do the "I want to try a pokemon I like so I slap it into a team of 5 of the most popular, dont actually use it the entire time and say the build is off meta"
TL;DR- imagine a world where everyone had less than 570 effective value of stats, reasonable typing and not insane move pools.

Been winning about half my matches, but wondering what I could be doing better. Not to good at predictions or big brain reads.
Honestly dynamaxing is a much better mechanic than z moves
I hope we get a "chaos format" after this worlds bc reg G has been out for a bit. The format I really want to see is the base SV dex: base game + dlc dexes only, no paradox forms or legendaries. Basically reg A if the DLC was included at launch
This series would have been so much better if they would have played a cap on the amount of legendaries you could bring.
You mean a restricted format?
@@mukatte4755 I mean that in this format there was not a cap on the amount of legendaries you could bring. You could bring 6 restricted mons and not even one mythical. It was effectively, a no holds barred format. If there would have been a limit on the number of restricted’s and mythical’s you could bring to battle, then it would have been fun. In this format it was really common to see teams w 6 restricted’s and not even 1 mythical. Which pretty much defeats the purpose of the format in the first place.
I have a hoopa to spare dude
Banning the top 10 most used Pokemon without nuance sounds like such a Pokemon Company move
I liked dynamax :( it was certainly better than z-moves at least and it was less centralizing from what I could see compared to megas. Being able to do stuff like dynamax whimsicott to win a tourney is sick! I could understand why people didn't like it much but as a casual player and a frequent viewer I loved it
9:03 suprise Rickover jumpscare.
Moxie Boosted, I liked this video because it's awesome!
Thank you for saying that bc I just remembered I never caught the SV meloetta
They are all legendries in my mind. Ain't gonna learn all that
transform imprison mew was also pretty fun
5:45 Why.
iirc at one point during series 6 they announced players cup 2 qualifier, and they made that be played in series 5 rather than series 6, so even TCPI knew not many people liked the new format
i wish S6 was done in a more sane way. TCPi really did the laziest way of making a banlist and it backfired.
if we instead just banned specific pokemon like smogon, like Incineroar, Urshifu, etc, it would have been a lot more interesting
Thank you being so kind all mighty loving God help me and these become more like u
i think they really ought to make mythicals accessible to everyone and allow us to use them in vgc (with arceus added as a restricted), it would add a lot of variety. e-killer arceus with clear amulet or arceus with the type plates would be significant new options for restricted formats, deoxys-speed would be nice counterplay to speed crept mons like zacian and caly-s, deoxys-attack is one of the scariest attackers of all time but drops to quick attack, and all the other fun ones like zeraora, victini, magearna, volcanion, marshadow and meltmetal just to name a few would add a lot of very unique options. zeraora would be a funny partner for ground types since it makes normal moves turn to electric with plasma fists, magearna is a great trick room setter, hoopa hits through protect but only with one move, etc
Darkrei is still OP
The Dark Void is still OP
It needs to be weakened again.
Because there are enough ways to improve its accuracy. (Gravity/Sweet Syrup)
Because 50% accuracy is actually way too good for a double sleep train.
I unfortunately understood that.
