      It doesn't really matter cause there is plenty of steel/bug type pkmn that run over fairy pkmn with ease not to mention poison/bug pkmn that also run over fairy pkmn as well. After one sword dance scizor with bullet punch runs over and ko most fairy pkmn before they even know what has happen. So fairy resisting bug is not a big deal.

      @@Bug_Pokemon_Master Just because Scizor can deal with it doesn't mean it isn't a problem, it's far from the only bug out there and there are only 5 other bug/steels, with one being mythical and none of the others being considered very good. As for poison types, bringing two bad offensive types doesn't help much when they also have to be able to deal with anything that isn't grass, dark, or fairy, to say nothing of dual types. That's the bigger issue, you might be able to bring coverage and deal at least neutral damage to a lot of pokemon, but you still have to actually hit the right pokemon and not get completely screwed by a switch or tera, and bug moves having so many resists and so few weaknesses to hit makes it super vulnerable to that, which is why having a super meta type like fairy added to that list is such a problem for it, since now those meta pokemon can switch in on bugs much easier

      Bug pkmn can do far more then just u-turn. For example prankster volbeat with covert cloak can set tailwind allowing a sash tera ghost vivllion to spam sleep powder 7sing its compound eyes ability to hit almost as effectly as spore. On top of that with covert cloak and tera ghost vivllion its an anti fake out lead. Then u have encore to move trap ur opponent or set sun to decrease urshafu rapid strike by 50% then u-turn into bigger threats like scarf slither wing, or clear amulet kleavor with sharpness all the while vivllion is keeping ur opponent frustrated cause all there pkmn r asleep. And if u try to tera grass or switch to grass pkmn to avoid sleep powder well grass is weak to bug so its a free ko then free set ups on ur opponent for easy knock outs. Thats been my strat on the ladder and have easily made high standing in master rank. So bugs do more then u-turn.

    Fairy/fighting/ghost have no business resisting bug. Conceptually they have almost nothing to do with each other. If those three types took neutral damage from bug, then bug would be fine offensively. If that's too much of a buff, you could make rock resist bug, which absolutely makes sense, and rock could also use a defensive buff.
    I run monotype bug teams, and it's very common I won't even use bug type attacks. Usually the special attackers will use bug buzz because there's not a whole lot of other options. But the physical attackers never have bug attacks, and a lot of physical bugs don't even get U turn

    • @mysticpumpkin8520

      To be fair a bit, fighting and bug resisting each comes from both the resistance of both's bodies, while with fairy is because in legends fairies tend to be used to bugs and even employ them in there schemes or daily lifes
      Ghost? Nah. If anything, it should be in reversed, since bugs tend to be very sensitive of their surroudings, so a ghost they should see coming.

    • @peco595

      I'm quite certain the logic behind the ghost resist is that bug type and ghost type are both seen as the scary spooky type, which is why they're both good against the psychic type

      @@peco595 With psychic? I believe it makes sense, inbetween ghost and bug? I don't think so. Because well... So far as i remember, bug deals neutral damage to electric, or even rock. What i mean is. You can find any reason to why bug could be resisted by... Anything, after all, it's not like a fly ever bit a dragon but it still deals neutral.
      In summary, you could justify anything resisting bug since bugs are so small. And that is a really bad metric. That's why i don't think it's a valid one to use.

    Fairy resisting Bug is really just made a lot worse by the former having been a new type in gen 6. Like Bug already never had a good rep at all, why kick it while it's down???
    I am still half on the camp of Ice being worse, but also thinking that both have the same issue of sometimes not being the type that's bad, but rather the mons themselves being bad and giving the types a bad rep. This could have happened to any other type, even if they're not as inherently flawed as Ice is. But at least that's just what I think.
    Side note though, whoever decided to give the first Ice/Bug type in existence, who has one of my favorite Bug type designs, 65 speed as a Quiver Dance sweeper, is still on my hit list for the past 5 years.

    • @caiusdrakegaming8087
      @caiusdrakegaming8087 4 місяці тому +7

      Yeah like how the Ice type itself is highly offensive typing, but most Ice type pokemon are bulky. Bug does have some flaws as a type though, being resisted by seven types is kind of detrimental to type, just look at Grass. It's the only other type to also be resisted by that many, and it shares four of those seven in Fire, Poison, Flying, and Steel. But t the same time the pokemon in the Bug type also heavily bring it down. Like if you look on PokemonDB, the average stats for the Big type are ranked, from HP to Speed, #18, #17, #14, #18, #17, and #16. Its rep is both from itself and its members.

    - neutral damage to fairies

    Fairy-type is the most broken type in the game, having this trouble against the worst could make a great difference for bugs. Inmunity to confusion allows certain combos in doubles, like flatter/swagger or chaos dance. Is a great inmunity during playthrough too.

      Type-wise, Bug and Grass are the worst defensively so it wouldn't hurt for them to resist Fairy.

    I was thinking a thematically relevant mechanic that could be added to bug type is that bug types deal more damage from multi-hit moves than any other type, be it an increase to the amount of damage every hit deals or that bug types get to attack more times in every multi-hit move.
    Think about it, a lot of the most famous bugs IRL attack in swarms, meaning that while individually they may not deal a ton of damage, they collectively can really rough you up. Combine this with adding some solid multi-hit moves to bug type mons' move pools, and bug types become far more threatening to anyone running focus sash.

    Things that can help Bug Type.
    1. Remove the ineffectiveness to Fairy and/or Ghost.
    2. Add resistances to Fairy, and/or Ghost, and/or Dark.
    3. Built in Sticky Hold would be the best ability in conjunction with some variation of the previous two (Accelgor could swap Sticky Hold for Infiltrator).
    4. Bug-type Exclusive Abilities:
    - Panic Point; When a Pokémon with this Ability is hit by a critical hit, Panic Point maximizes its Speed stat by raising it to +6 stages (regardless of its current stage). (Like Anger Point but for Speed)
    - Web Weaver (exclusive to Spider Pokémon); Lowers the Speed of the opposing Pokémon (Can act like Intimidate OR 'Ruin' abilities), also removes the effects of Sticky Web from the field on switch in.
    - Preemptive Dodge; once per battle it can narrowly escape an attack, losing 1/4 it's max HP (Worse version of Disguise)
    - Exoshell; Raises either the Defense stat or Special Defense stat by one stage depending on the foe's currently highest offensive stat. (Like Download. Crustacean Pokémon can also have this).
    - Timorous; When a stat of a Pokémon with this Ability is lowered by an opponent, its Speed is increased by two stages. (Like Defiant. Not strictly 'exclusive' to Bug-types, but they have higher distribution).
    - Strong Jaw (old ability, updated effect); Bug Bite (and Vermin Bite, see below) also are boosted.
    5. Bug-type Exclusive Moves:
    - Sidestep; Protects the user from physical (or special?) moves and increases the users Speed by one stage (Like Silk Trap. Crab type Pokémon can also learn this). Only has 5-8 PP (Like Detect).
    - Vermin Bite; It has a 50% chance of leaving the target poisoned, paralyzed, or asleep. (Like Dire Claw. Rodent Pokémon can also learn this).
    - Crystal Carapace; Increases Defense or Special Defense depending on whether the opponent's Attack or Special Attack is higher. (Crustacean Pokémon can also have this).
    - Seething Swarm; Prevents the target from fleeing or switching out. At the end of each turn, the target's Attack and Special Attack are lowered by one stage each. If the user switches out, the target will be freed. (Like Octolock)
    - Panick(ed) Attack; Inflicts damage and always makes the target flinch, will fail if not used on the first turn the user is out. (Like Fake Out. Can affect Ghosts!)
    - Spider Web (old move, new effect); Traps the opposing Pokémon and lowers their speed by one/two stages. (A bit broken, but only eight Pokémon can learn the move anyway so...)
    - Minimize (old move, new distribution); All Not Fully Evolved Bug-types can learn Minimize (excluding Scyther and Yanma)

    Here's an odd idea for a buff. A new weather called 'Plague'. It would boost the Accuracy of Bug types by 1 stage while also boosting the power of Bug type moves used by Bug types by 25%. This would ensure that Golisopod could hit hard with First Impression or U-Turn while Landorus could not.
    Another idea I had was a new move that like Toxic with Poison types, would always hit with Bug types. The move itself would be called 'Swarming' or something and it'd essentially be Burn but for Sp.A. That would help bugs survive Fire easier.

  • @RaguPastaSauce

    A Buff I'd give bug types on top of removing fairy and ghost's resistance to it, is granting them immunity to entry hazards.
    It would not only work thematically since bugs irl seem to be able to thrive in even the most hazardous locations, but It would also functionally allow them to have some sort of resilience despite having a ton of weaknesses. This definitely pushes Volcarona into broken status in singles though.
    Another thing that can help in a more meta-game sense is lowering the distribution of U-turn to mainly only bug types (and a few select Pokemon like Flygon, Gliscor, and Revaroom), and instead, give the non bug-types that previously learned U-turn a new 60 Base power normal type version instead.
    I feel like U-Turn's wide distribution makes so many bug weak pokemon drop in viability and as a result, it is redundant to have an actual bug type on the team. So by making it more exclusive, this would increase the viability of bug-weak mons and as a result, bug types would be more sought after. This would essentially make it so pokemon can actually be allowed to be weak to the bug type and not just weak to U-turn coverage
    To boot, This would be a pretty negligible nerf to previous non bug-type u-turn users (Even potentially a buff for most technician users, and normal types due to STAB) , since they mainly just used it for momentum anyway. And because of Ghost's normal type immunity, their newfound ability to switch block would indirectly buff them and should make up for their loss of bug-type resistance. I don't think fairy would need compensation buffs though since it's unanimously the best type in the game.

    Small item buff idea that i think ive posted one before. Poison types have the item Black Sludge, that acts like their own personal Leftovers, which has the negative effect of poisoning other pokemon types.
    I think the hold item Honey should do the same for bug types. And when held by other pokemon it lowers their speed by one stage (same effect if you use Fling) Granted i'de probably only have it be a one time effect so pokemon arent losing speed every turn, but it also gives the item niche uses. Like with Trick to slow an opponent or make a Trick Room sweeper 'faster'.

      There are two reasons that made sense to me.
      One is as one of the most 'real' types, there's a lot of things we know hurts bugs. Birds eat them, They don't like fire and are rather squishable by rocks. Also, in gen 1 they were weak to poison, which makes sense when you consider pesticides. (The other 'real type is grass BTW)
      Meanwhile, people have less opinions on more fantastical types like Ghost and Dragon. Myths often go into detail about the strengths of these monsters, but less about their weaknesses.
      The other is the RPG design of Gen 1. Bugs make great early encounters, as they're relatively common IRL, and people don't exactly associate them with strength.

    Bug type should have been strong against more types like ground and fairy on top of dark psychic etc.
    Ground because bugs make houses in the ground. They aren't afraid of dirt. Fairy as something cute is usually afraid of bugs. Psychic makes sense as they need to concentrate and bugs are well buggy.
    I'd add normal or fighting too since bugs are a lot more dangerous than they seem.
    Same with how poison deserves to be effective on more stuff.

    probably give the bugs a higher overall bst, allowing for individual growth rather than a blanket effect. if you want a blanket effect maybe have it to where if a bug uses a biting moves is consumes onetime use items before they proc, a built in bug bite. it would make the moves better than knock off when dealing with item removal of single use items since you get the effect. imagine shaking off taunt or the like by eating their herbs and such. for special attackers who would not benefit maybe a slight boost in sound based moves. snarl, hyper voice etc would be more useful, makes up for lack of stats.

    No it can't. Due to its HP Shuckle actually doesn't survive that much and most singles tiers have better hazzard setters.

    I think Bug is actually a decent enough type. It’s not strong against a ton of stuff, but what it is strong against are important types. Bugs also get good dual typings. Bugs usually get good move pools. Stealth Rocks once again make something decent suck.

    How to fix the bug type? Remove the resistance of ghost and fairy and make bug strong against fairy instead, they should resist grass, fairy, dark, psychic and ghost, plus the X factor all bugs would have, the one about not being affect with accuracy stuff is completely useless in high competitive since the evasion clause, I think it would be better if they would be immune from confusion since most bugs go of instinct and not brain.
    I wished that they would get buffed because a lot of bug types are sick like volcarona, kleavor, scizor, araquanid and lowkix to name a few

    On the topic of bad bug types I feel like Illumese is one buff away from outclassing Whimsicott. Illumese does nearly everything Whimsicott does while being bulkier and having better defensive typing, the only advantages Whimsicott has is a better offensive typing, spore/dragon immunity and a better speed stat which isn’t too relevant for a prankster user. Also Whimsicott gets taunt.

      but for doubles , Illumise doesn't get Beat Up. This matters a ton in formats like Gen 6 DOU where the Terracott combo can sweep entire teams. Doesn't whimsicott also get leech seed?

    Certified Bug Type Lover (almost all of my favorite pokemon from each gen have either bug, ghost, or dark typing lmao) and like. Man oh man, I wish it was better. Game freak... game freak please... give our little buzzy buddies some love...
    (I also really like the accuracy idea because that was my first thought when you mentioned buffing bug types. I'm not even sure why, but I am glad I'm not the only one that thought of it. Tbf I also forgot compound eyes was a thing until this vid reminded me of its existence though so!! oops.)

  • @tezminator
    @tezminator 4 місяці тому

    A while ago I thought on something that actually combines 2 of the things you mention, but in a different way: a weather condition called Pheromone Cloud in which, when active, increases the accuracy (1 stage, but without actually increasing a stage, just a passive increase just like Rock's Spdef and Ice's Def boost on their respective weathers) of all Bug type pokemon in the field and makes their moves unredirectable cause, you know, pheromones are a big thing on animals (specially on insects and bugs that form a path to follow based on pheromones left in the trail, meaning they will go for the intended location) and Bug is the most "animal related" type that exists in the game (along with Normal, but Normal can be anything and Bug is more specific). But then I remembered that the already existing weathers all form 2 pairs that perfectly mirror each other and I couldn't think of anything else to mirror this Pheromone Cloud, so I think it would be better as a Reflect/Light Screen kind of effect that stays for 5 turns , but instead is set on the enemy side of the field (because that's where the Bugs should go to attack).
    Now, after some more thoughts and seeing your video, I still think this could be a good buff, but I would think 2 things should change: add just one of the increased accuracy or unredirectability effects and also an increase in the likely of additional effects happening (just like Serene Grace). There's no logical explanation that I can think of for this, it's just a buff that I think that would help Bug type Pokemon without pushing too much. I mean, I literally can only remember Silver Wind as a Bug type move having a chance for an extra effect to happen and that move is nowhere to be seen for 2 generations with no sign to return, so it wouldn't have much of an impact on Bug type moves themselves, but it would on the coverage that Bug type Pokemon have. This, alongside the improved type chart that, like you said, is a MUST, would make for a great buff on Bug's attacking prowess in my opinion.
    Edit: just remembered that Bug Buzz also has a chance to lower Spdef, so there would be at least ONE Bug move benefited by this.

    Id make 3 changes to bug types:
    1. Resist dragon. Its a wild change but there are 2 reasons for this. Dragons having a hard time hitting a tiny thing and there's a lot of mythical history of very tiny creatures defeating large monsters like dragons.
    2. Remove fairy and ghost from the resists.
    3. Upgrade base stats through various options.
    4. Bonus round, make golisopod immune to entry hazards as part of their ability. If they encounter a hazard they clear it when they emergency exit.

    Legit comment aside from memes to give you: I really love how you also lightly mention singles play and metas, even though everyone knows you're very focused on VGC it's nice that you do recognize the different ways people like to play and telling people on both sides of the table the interesting trends and choices people use with their pokemon! (Like mentioning Rocks really screwing over bugs, when it's rarely used in VGC ever, but the only other thing always around besides knock off in singles)

    Call me Delusional but Slither Wing might actually be good if it came in a different Gen.
    Its biggest issue is having Fighting type competition, rn there’s actually a lot of bug/fighting weak Pokémon in Calyrex-I, Farigiraf, Indeedee, Chi-Yu, Incineroar, etc
    Plus having an innate 30% buff to Attack in the sun helps with reaching certain thresholds. The only problem is the fact that if you want to use Slither wing you might as well use Urshifu. Similar attack faster physically bulkier broken ability and signature move, there’s no reason to use Slither unless it’s your favorite fighting type or if you’re a Volcarona Stan (Me)
    As for bug type buffs, one thing I think many people don’t realize about most bugs is that they all have a pretty sturdy exoskeleton that protects a lot from them, and that’s amplified more from the protection of leaves foliage and other plant life. I think making bugs have a passive defense buff in grassy terrain (or give them their own field effect) could be a fun way to create team comps around the bug type cause they have some genuinely amazing utility moves that are never used cause they’re attached to a bug type.
    Moves like String Shot, Struggle Bug, Sticky Web, Lunge, Leech Life, First Impression are all amazing moves but you gotta be insane to justify running them. Giving bugs more field presence could help with that

    Imo they could also give bug the supereffective damage against ground and electric and a resistance to them. Bugs are known for eating ground and sometimes wires as well, and being fairly resistant to electricity (and also the term "software bug" came to be after a literal bug caused a supercomputer to fail). I dont think the ground and electric types will suffer too much for the new weakness and resistance tbh
    And MAYBE a water resist, given that a lot of bugs either live in water or used to live in water at some point, and water certainly could use a nerf

    Bug fixes:
    -Give more access to Quiver Dance
    -Give them a boost during sunny day OR create a new weather effect/arena field that gives bug types a boost to their attack or defense. OR do something special like give it a resistance to a type under that weather effect.
    -remove resistance to Ghost, Fighting, and Fairy
    -Give back super effectiveness to poison types from Gen 1. It makes no sense that this was removed making bug types only over super effective against psychic and Dark types. They don't have to make it resist poison, but it would at least be another check to the bulky poison types GF keeps making.
    -Buff some stats of weaker bug Pokemon. Kricketune one of the weakest fully evolved pokemon in the game. It's mid-stage and first stage Pokemon with better stats than Kricketune.
    -Buff some attack for bugs. Like why was Toxic Thread isn't a bug type attack. Since it's only on the Ariados family, it could have been the only move in the game that can poison steel types.

    I really like that last change for bugs. I've seen the redirection thing thrown around a bunch, but the idea of them having some sort of built-in resistance to accuracy and evasion changes is kind of interesting. Really curious how that would work mechanically because I think having them just straight up ignore those stat changes isn't the right way to go about it. I think it should just be something where all of their moves run off the natural accuracy of that move and modifiers to the opponent's evasion is not factored in. I think accuracy lowering should still work against them so it's not just a full-blown built-in Keen Eye, but just ignoring evasion boosting is actually pretty cool. It also plays into them being pests

  • @typemasters2871
    @typemasters2871 4 місяці тому

    Out of the three ideas you suggested, the “ignore redirection” idea had me thinking, why not play off the concept of a “hive mind”
    If bug types know what their allies are thinking then they could take reduced or no damage from their ally using moves that attack all adjacent Pokemon (I.E. surf, discharge, earthquake) and take reduced or no damage from entry hazards when ally switches (entry hazards do full damage if opponent forces the switch via moves like Dragon Tail)
    It would be funny if Bug types got a buff that was “non bug type Pokemon can’t resist bug type attacks coming from bug type Pokemon”. Thus bug type moves coming from a bug type Pokemon always does neutral or super effective damage unless it’s used against another bug type.

  • @edwardgreene2884
    @edwardgreene2884 4 місяці тому

    One thing that bug types have going for them is the utility of the secondary effects of many of their moves. Raising and lowering stats, messing with priority, getting free switches. It would be interesting if a "bug passive" made it so that STAB moves used by bug pokemon have an additional 25% chance of triggering their secondary effects (so if its 20% it would now be 25% chance.) This would also affect dual type bug pokemon with their secondary type.

  • @madjester9844
    @madjester9844 4 місяці тому +1

    One thing you failed to mention is that the resistances the bug type has are also shared with the flying type, which also has a bug resistance of its own and with an entire immunity rather than resistance to ground. Flying also has 3 horrid weaknesses (one of them also to rock at that) but it make up for it by being a great offensive type, and by that immunity being that much more valuable than the sinple resistance. The problem with bug isn't just that it's got some pretty notable downsides with only decent upsides, but that it's actively outclassed in what it tries to do, meaning that to get it out of "potential worst type in the game" hell we also need it to make it more distinct (for which the passive buffs you proposed at the end would help a bit)

  • @dethan4176
    @dethan4176 4 місяці тому +1

    Can we talk about how bad psychic type is? It only resists itself and fighting, it only hits fighting and poison super effectively, it shares thé the same two weaknesses with ghost (which also has two immunities) and CANT even hit dark. It is not a good type, the only reason it is used because it has good moves (trick room, calm mind, etc) which are not exclusive to psychics at all anymore. You don’t use a Pokémon because it’s psychic, you use it despite its psychic.
