Pon is the best thing I’ve ever done. No fungus gnats, lower amount of pests in general i find.. and much easier to maintain the water. I cut mine w orchiata and perlite-but love it. Only issue is every time I’m running low they are sold out and I have to methodically check the site. ** also buy corner acrylic shelves for your Milano life changing**
I was stalking the site and amazon every single day for the past few weeks lol I was finally able to snag some so I stocked up a little. I wished it was more readily available but it really is so amazing! I see why so many people love it now. I thought about switching the set up of my cabinet so definitely a project I feel in some time! 🥰
I lost my Orbifolia (I think to flat mites), my lemon/lime maranta, my red maranta, my rabbit foot maranta, and my variegated maranta to flat mites. I'm trying to save my silver band maranta from flat mites right now. I've also found flat mites on my hoyas so I'll have to spray all of them down as well. It seems to be an endless battle with bugs.
Standleyana is the one plant that I could never solve the browning issues on. In the cabinet, out of it, in soil, in pon, silica... the white areas always browned off. And the runners! In the end I decided it did not bring me joy and gave it away.

That FRYDEK!!!! WOAH! LUCKY!!🤩🤩🤩 Do you have a video about the whole process of not only potting in pon but also what fertilizers you use, how often etc? The general care guide from start to the care of? I used to use Leca and had really great success but was using the floraseries by general hydroponics and the ph balancers etc but some of my plants didnt do the greatest. I'd love to attempt pon!
So many plants at the front of the house plant room. Just realised you live in a a large bungalow house? Is nice your neighbour hood houses there all spaced out. I definitely would love to live in a detached home neighbourhoods. I prefer living in a home that has upstairs a two story or three story. Definitely be scared sleeping downstairs. Your sitting room kitchen area definitely the spacious area of your home. What are those plastic bag things on your front lawn? Definitely love to see your garden tour your outdoor plants growing on the ground.

I would say for the pot extender you are looking for on the anthurium, you could use a plastic cup and cut the bottom out. I do that and then cut a slit down the side to open up and slide on. That’s what I do! Your collection looks amazing Melissa! You are GOALS! ❤ I also really love the long form video.
I was thinking about buying the Rousseau ones maybe but don't know if they would be worth getting. The cup is a great idea!! I bought some plastic table placemats and cut them to size for my last anthurium I did but I was wanting something easier lol
@@plantsbymelissadefinitely! the cup is very easy and works great with holding the moss, TFF or whatever substrate you are going to use. I also find it a bit sturdier and better at staying upright!
Yes Melissa I agree...it's too soon to tell with the GT. I started seeing results months later and it also depends on the time of year. That said though, your plants have been incredible even long before you changed fertiliser/nutrients so Im really curious to see what they'll be like by your next growing season. Yep, I’ve doing that with mine and they’re loving it. I’ve been using GT throughout autumn and winter here in Sydney and they’ve never skipped a beat….none of plants have. In fact I use Flower Focus for my peace lillies and they bloomed during winter and now one of them is blooming again!! I love GT (not sponsored btw)

I get mine from Grow Kings in Matraville but Growing Grounds Rockdale stock it as do the Hydro Experts in Lidcombe. In fact there are quite a few stockists in Sydney. I found that Grow Kings is the best value (I always go there and pick it up myself).

Where did you get that from? That would be perfect for me to store my potting mediums in while also being a nice place to put my plants on top of
I'm so sorry! ❤️🩹 I can relate to feeling in a blah mood! I tend to not show that much on social media. It's hard to do plant care or much of anything else when you're feeling like that. I take breaks if I need to and do bare minimum sometimes to get me through until I am feeling better 🤗
Verrucosum is gorgeous..how much humidity in your gro room area? People usually have problems with the plant.. Your Jessenia is beyond AMAZING...do they grow as fast as other pothos? What kind of fertilizer do you use?

Thank you so much! I love the other shelf I got for the dining room it's similar but I guess this shelf didn't fit for what I was wanting to do with the space. The barrina lights kept falling down too with the stickers on the surface. It's a great shelf though!

Your plants are so beautiful. I have a question that I'm hoping you can answer at some point about your philo "growing out of its own cataphyll". Do you mean when it stops growing out of the last leaf it produced? mine did this recently and I was so surprised. Is it a sign of maturity? What kind of fertilizer do you use for your air plants? I have 2 of them as well. I use Super Thrive with all my houseplants, so would that be safe to use for my air plants? It's by Dr. Bronner's :) I like it because it's gentle and it lasts awhile. I put some in a pump prayer and hose off plants in the shower in between rounds of mites. I don't use a particular recipe I just pour some in there but you can use a tablespoon or so at least in a gallon.

I also have 2cats and 3 fish tanks. Your cat is so sweet. I wanted to ask a quick question. I have a variegated alocasia frydek. It’s small. It only has 2 leaves. It had 4 but 2 white ones died off. It’s in a 4 inch pot..would you suggest leaving it in soil still or would it be fine to place in this pon? And then how much water do you give and when to water? ThankYou kindly.❤
Hey there! Now that I have the GT I will use it throughout winter. I don't stop fertilizing because I still provide a lot of them with great growing conditions. I may refresh osmocote in some as well.

yeah, they are a pain. It's hard to get rid of them because of their life cycle it lasts for so long so you really have to do a long treatment process on them like 6 weeks. I've been spraying once a week with castile soap but sometimes I get lazy with it. I would isolate infected plants and keep up with treatment and they should go away. I made a couple videos on them and I first used sulfur based off others but it was so harsh on my plants and really not good for your lungs.
It's not open yet but I will have a shop on my website that will have plants listed. I haven't been dedicating as much time as I need to on it so it will still be a little while yet. I might wait till spring because I hate to open a shop and ship plants during the winter season just starting out.
Holy cow Melissa your upsizing in leaves esp during fall is incredible! I seriously feel like even though you dilute the fertilizer it’s really helped with giving them some nutrients 🫶🏼🔥🔥🔥🔥
Hi! The pon substrate is from the lechuza brand. It's been out of stock for awhile but I just keep checking their site or amazon! It comes back in stock occasionally or you can DIY it :)
The pon is from the lechuza brand. Many people DIY it since it's hard to get here in the US at least. It's always out of stock so whenever it comes back people buy it up pretty quickly. I just keep checking and I signed up for email notification on their website!

What kind of fertilizer do you use for your air plants? I have 2 of them as well. I use Super Thrive with all my houseplants, so would that be safe to use for my air plants? I would appreciate any feedback you could give me on this. All your plants are absolutely gorgeous by the way. I'm still eyeing those Variegated Frydek's too 😂

It's by Dr. Bronner's :) I like it because it's gentle and it lasts awhile. I put some in a pump prayer and hose off plants in the shower in between rounds of mites. I don't use a particular recipe I just pour some in there but you can use a tablespoon or so at least in a gallon.

Most likely yes! It will depend on what it is but I won't just toss them out or anything.

good morning! I will in some time :) I'm trying to do everything myself and the progress has been really slow with it - trying to have more dedicated days to focus on it. But I may end up waiting until spring because opening a online plant shop in winter probably isn't the best idea starting out.

I also have 2cats and 3 fish tanks. Your cat is so sweet. I wanted to ask a quick question. I have a variegated alocasia frydek. It’s small. It only has 2 leaves. It had 4 but 2 white ones died off. It’s in a 4 inch pot..would you suggest leaving it in soil still or would it be fine to place in this pon? And then how much water do you give and when to water? ThankYou kindly.❤

Hey there! Now that I have the GT I will use it throughout winter. I don't stop fertilizing because I still provide a lot of them with great growing conditions. I may refresh osmocote in some as well.

How did you get rid ofthe flat mites. I amstruggling with something and I can not nail down. I did cast soap again tonight.
yeah, they are a pain. It's hard to get rid of them because of their life cycle it lasts for so long so you really have to do a long treatment process on them like 6 weeks. I've been spraying once a week with castile soap but sometimes I get lazy with it. I would isolate infected plants and keep up with treatment and they should go away. I made a couple videos on them and I first used sulfur based off others but it was so harsh on my plants and really not good for your lungs.

It's not open yet but I will have a shop on my website that will have plants listed. I haven't been dedicating as much time as I need to on it so it will still be a little while yet. I might wait till spring because I hate to open a shop and ship plants during the winter season just starting out.

Hi! The pon substrate is from the lechuza brand. It's been out of stock for awhile but I just keep checking their site or amazon! It comes back in stock occasionally or you can DIY it :)

The pon is from the lechuza brand. Many people DIY it since it's hard to get here in the US at least. It's always out of stock so whenever it comes back people buy it up pretty quickly. I just keep checking and I signed up for email notification on their website!
