Hey Melissa, sorry for such a sappy and emotional post but I just want to say thank you for what you do and your postive energy. I have been in such a dump for so long now (mental illness and stuff), and tbh I had no passion for anything and I felt empty and waste of space. Growing up shy and only having out of state friends didn't help either. When I started thinking about plant keeping, I had no confidence as I killed anything I bought within a week. Your videos gave me the confidence leap into the hobby of plant keeping and while I'm still learning, I love every moment of it. Watching you talk about your passion and just overall feels like I have a friend to do something I love with, so please don't stop. Thank you so much for everything.
You found a great channel with Melissa, she has a calming voice. Stay strong and hang in there, welcome to the Melissa plant family. Plants are therapy, you are on a great path. God bless you, and hope you feel better soon 🙏🌷
I'm not crying 😭 This is the reason why I make videos..to not only help and share but knowing that I've helped someone makes my day 🥹 Thank you for writing this and for being here, truly. Plants have done amazing things for me. They found me in a time in my life where I felt so down about everything. It gets better and you will learn so much. I wouldn't be the plant parent I am today without having all those fails in the beginning. I'm happy to be here and to feel like you have a friend to do something with. I relate to being the shy person so much! 🫶 Sending you strength, keep planting and growing and I hope you feel better soon! 🤗
@@plantsbymelissa you’re very welcome🙏. Wonderful response Melissa, thank you for touching another soul who found peace with your channel. You are a blessing 🙏
I absolutely LOVE your chatty videos! Whenever you upload a video I always prop my phone up in the kitchen while washing dishes and watch. Then I go check on all of my plants afterwards. Thank you for being such an inspiration, all of us plant people love you! ❤️🌿
I like chatty videos lol Especially when I’m plant choring and listening to your videos, feels like a friend is gardening with me 😁. It motivates me even more👍.Melissa is going to put her magic juju on them and they’ll be trees by the end of the summer 🥰. Looking forward to the White Knight journey🪴🪴🪴🪴! 🙏 Thank you!
I really like your repot videos - long form especially. It’s a mixture of your calming voice and the sound of the soil that gives me asmr ❤ another great video x
I would probably wait to see how the smaller White Knight grows. If it does really well then you could pot the 2 plants together. I’m not sure why people wouldn’t want a chatty video…it would be pretty boring watching someone do plant chores in complete silence. I love your videos 💚💚💚
Melissa never stop chatting I love it! I have learned so much from you, especially about moss poles. I started putting several of my plants on moss poles and the size up is real!!! My Philo Spendid leaves are huge since I put it on a pole, so thank you for all the great info!!!! 😍
Thank you 🥹 I'm happy to keep blabbering as someone put it lol. I'm so happy your moss poles are doing well and they're sizing up! They are truly so fun to watch grow 🥰
I also use Ivory dish soap. It works great. As for fungus gnats, I recently started using Bonide Systemic granules. I haven't had any issues. We will see how that does long term!
I was watering my plants today and came across a sol soil plant and the fungus gnats that were in that pot had me running out of my house . There was at least 50 of those nasty little things and I have been able to keep them away from using mosquito dunks . Omg now I can start all over. I'm so mad at that company.
Oh no, the gnats that came out of mine was insane! It was like an explosion of them! 😬 my plant room still has some flying around but hoping in another week with BTI they’ll disappear more. Sorry that happened to you it’s frustrating 🥹
Thanks for the repot video and all the great info you share along with it. I can testify to the fact of new plant growth effected by repotting. As my new baby Alocasia SD I received and repotted last week into a soil type substraight mix from a pure sphagnum moss that It came in, I had a time removing it all from the roots, but is now exhibiting that exact problem with it's new leaf. It is a bit smaller than the two other leaves and has an ever so slight deformity. The girl is very healthy though as I was very careful with the roots and is growing very well in it's new home. So I have full confidence the next leaf will be a normal step up in size. Oh It's always great seeing Luna, she is a sweetie. 😻
Of course! I'm happy to film and make these videos and to share ☺️ Moss can definitely be such a time removing it from the roots. I'm happy it's growing well in its new home and can't wait for it to give you a new leaf! Luna is the sweetest 🥹
Melissa, I used to have a hanging basket that had a plant with green on top of the leaves, purple on the bottom. Underneath were tendrils with orange shaped fish. It is not a goldfish plant. unless a reare one. The tendrils look like the ones on a pitcher plant. They are hidden till you see them peeping out of the bottom. Thanks for any help.
No way do you talk too much during your videos. Expressing what you observe as you examine your plants and then explaining what you intend to do to care for them is very educational to your viewers. Plantologist Extraordinaire at work for sure. The benefit of videos is that they are both visual and verbal and yours epitomize that. Additionally you have a very pleasant speaking voice and excellent presentation manner. Thanks for your great work.
I love chatty videos! 😍 I don't really have any plant-friends so it's extra nice 😊 I've recently bought from Lowe's clearance section a severely overwatered calathea medallion and she lost all the leaves when I repotted her 😅 any advice to bring her back to life? 🌱💜
Thank you! It could take while, just time and good conditions like humidity and some light. They will eventually grow new shoots from their rhizomes :)
I actually been so scared to buy any plants from Lowes (they have so many cute ones. But you definitely showed me there is ways to try and prevent pest.
Sometimes the plants aren't the healthiest because the soil sits too wet or there's pests but gnats I don't worry about too much. If I see a mealie infestation, spider mites or thrips I will avoid to not risk it lol. I have found some great finds at Lowe's before!
Your one of my fav plant on YT. Question, I have mostly alocasia and got some 20-20-20 fertilizer I mix with water but see 19-5.. in this reply. What do you recommend for alocasia? I used your links and am going with your soil mix :) tyvm for ur help!
Thank you! I love my soil recipe! 20-20-20 just means an even amount of nutrients. They all are important the NPK but it also depends on what you're wanting. I tend to use a higher nitrogen fertilizer to promote bigger leaves. I had such great growth with osmocote plus but wanted to try this other one because it contains Ca and osmocote didn't. I use it for all of them!
I love chatty videos, either to chill and relax in the evening or while doing plant chores myself. Also sometimes i don't feel like doing plant chores but watching your videos always makes me wanna do them in the end xD thanks so much for all your great content :D i wanted to ask which castile soap you prefer the most (as dr. bronners has a lot of different types)?
I don't normally make the mix this chunky but I've had some bad experience with a different soil I was using recently so I feel better knowing the mix can drain more freely yes!
I’m sure they help! I use BTI routinely so I don’t have a gnat problem. They came from a soil that I’m no longer using 😒 they’ll disappear in another week or so 🙏🏼
what brand orchid bark do you use? i’m never sure what to use. I’ve tried the one from lowe’s and i’m not a fan, and I believe i’ve tried Espoma Orchid and I find that’s not enough bark.
I recently bought a new one from rio hamza trading from amazon. It's called fir bark and it's bigger pieces. I normally use the smaller orchid bark pieces from the same brand and love that one. So far the fir bark is doing well. I repotted a few plants with it now. They are somewhat small bags though. One is 8 quarts and the other is 4 quarts. I'll link them here for you ☺️ smaller: www.amazon.com/dp/B08DP4N2K3?linkCode=ssc&tag=onamzmeli0992-20&creativeASIN=B08DP4N2K3&asc_item-id=amzn1.ideas.B6F3YIOPBQAN&ref_=aip_sf_list_spv_ofs_mixed_d_asin larger: www.amazon.com/dp/B08WJP9QL7?linkCode=ssc&tag=onamzmeli0992-20&creativeASIN=B08WJP9QL7&asc_item-id=amzn1.ideas.B6F3YIOPBQAN&ref_=aip_sf_list_spv_ofs_mixed_d_asin
A geo is not a calathea. It is similar in the care. I have about 35 calatheas, and Bella is the easiest of them all. I got my white knight on good Friday. 1st pick when they came in at Home Depot. Good luck with your geo they are not forgiving when you forget to water them.
I could tell there was 2 separate plants when I looked at the soil. It happens a lot from certain suppliers. Sometimes it's just one plant with 2 separate nodes growing but since these weren't connected I immediately knew :)
The rattlesnake calathea is an easier one, less finicky. Also, the makoyana isn't too finicky either. That one is also called a peacock calathea. It's one of my favorites! ☺️
oh man! i’m repotting two plants i bought at trader joes, and it’s 80 degrees out right now. I didn’t think trader joes would have plants. I just finished the first and I think i’m going to take a little break. 😆 Especially because the second one seems to be reaaaaally moist… 😒 so it really needs a change of soil. It looks like a red congo philodendron but i’m not quite sure. The sign at trader joe’s said it was a birkin but it’s no where near that. 🥲
It took awhile to get these two done lol break definitely needed! I miss trader joes plants! I moved away from one so I’m not really close anymore. The birkins are actually a mutation from the rojo congo so they can revert back ☺️

Hello Melissa from Puerto Rico!!! I use diluted neem oil mixed with Castile soap…so far very effective. 💚🙋🏼♀️🪴🐩
Loved your repotting video! Beautiful plants ❤
You look like a plant doctor scanning those leaves with that device☺️
Thank you for the chatty re-pot. Enjoy learning from you. Love the white knight, I need to keep my eyes open for one.
Thank you so much! ☺️ I hope you come across one soon! I'm so excited to grow one.
Hi. Do you think you could make a video on how you capture rainwater for your plants?
I just found some white knights at Lowe’s today too with high variegation! So excited to pop them in a pole now!
Love your chatty videos i also go a white knight but since removing the mesh it has declined alot fingers crossed it bounces back

question! why do you use such a chunky airy mix for moss pole plants? is it so you don’t get root rot from watering the poles frequently?

I could tell there was 2 separate plants when I looked at the soil. It happens a lot from certain suppliers. Sometimes it's just one plant with 2 separate nodes growing but since these weren't connected I immediately knew :)
What’s your ratio of soap to water? 😊
No certain ratio I honestly just mix several drops of the soap with water. It's definitely way more water than soap lol.
Which microscope do you use for identification of flat mites, and where bought 🤔?
Which calathea would you recommend to a beginner? 💚🪴🌱
