Melissa, long time subscriber here. I just love it when you start the videos making a cup of coffee. It adds an additional layer of calmness to the video (in my opinion). I watch you faithfully when I’m stressed. Thank you for all you do! 🌱 🪴 ☕️
I love the planty sweater you're wearing ❤ btw congratulations 👏🎉 on reaching 40k. I'm not surprised by the rapid growth of your channel as it's one of the best plant channels on UA-cam. 🌿❤️🌱💚🌵🖤
I was laughing so much in the beginning when you were making your coffee and spilling. I’m the same way, no matter how hard I try I always make a mess. 😂❤
Thank you so much!! I appreciate you for being here and watching! I love filming these longer videos ☺ They take awhile to edit but it's fun to put all the clips together!
Thank you so much for watching 🥺 I had a lot of footage but tried to cut it down lol. It went by really fast actually but glad I was able to get so much done!
Congrats on the 40K, but I can’t say I’m surprised because new viewers will soon realize the extensive and helpful material you provide and so are likely to stay with your channel. Your excellent videography is another plus. I enjoyed your outdoor tasks. Today, looking outside of my house, what do I see but a couple inches of snow. Not my favorite thing but I would never insult Mother Nature. Thanks for the video.
I always watch your videos all the way through. I sometimes have to stop watching and continue at a different time, but I usually do watch to the end...gotta support my girl Melissa😊 much support and love from Seattle 🤟
Thank you! It can be a lot some days but I have a pretty good schedule that seems to work for me. I get lazy some weeks but I do enjoy caring for them!
I think I have the planty sweatshirt you were wearing except for mine as a tank top. Also those snips you were using seemed to work so well that I went immediately to Amazon to find them! Congrats on 40K. Well deserved!!! I'm in VA and it was literally almost 80° yesterday and sunny. Today is so dreary and we started at 57 and it has steadily plummeted since this morning 🙄.
Time to say goodbye to the princess. I found thrips on two of my plants which is a first of that pest for me. And those plants were never outside. Captain Jacks took care of the ones visible then I sprayed with soap spray and I guess I’ll do that weekly for the next month or two.
oh no! I'm so sorry! 😣Thrips can be such a pain and do a lot of damage to your collection. They can just appear sometimes especially if you go outside or you bring a new plant in. The larvae can hatch out of the plant tissue every few days so any plants you have them on use a lint brush to get them off immediately and isolate them. Adults can fly and make their way around but with consistent checking and treating you can get rid of them! I hope they are gone for you soon!
I always watch your videos all the way through Melissa! What a legend getting all that done on your own and in only 2 days....phew! I'm exhausted haha Thanks for letting us come along. Hoping that all the nematodes get chomping on those larvae . I especially appreciate the budget friendly grow light setup. I was always procrastinating cos of the expense as well as the fiddliness of it all. But what you did for the sansiveria and monstera is brilliant! Will get onto Amazon right away🤩 Looking forward to your next video Melissa 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Thank you so much Connie for watching, truly I appreciate it 🥹 I saw the 15 watt Sansi bulbs on sale again today for around $10 so it's a great budget friendly option! I love how it turned out still ☺️
Hey Melissa! We have some staghorn fern growing on a very bushy tree at home - if you do put it outside, I think it would love a spot that’s very shady & windy! 🌳 Also, I have a hoya that’s pale & struggling to grow 🥺 it got burnt by the summer sun so it’s been living in bright shade since it was relocated. Would you recommend I add some fertilizer to it? Last but definitely not least, your husband’s cat is so cute! Love the kitty moments 🩷 and I love your videos, especially to do plant chores alongside! 🪴 I would love to have a collection this varied someday!
@@plantsbymelissa Just saw the suggested solution. I just repotted my hoya. I have never fertilized it but the leaves are pale. Question: what kind of fertilizer would you suggest? And in terms of strength, in a half litre of water how much fertlizer would you add? Thanks in advance! 🌺 I am located in Toronto, Ontario, Canada so I will have to remember to fertilize the plant next spring as we are fast approaching winter.
Hi Melissa, I watched it all, phew what a long weekend you had. You did a great job though well done. I think you definitely need an outbuilding like a greenhouse, and wow your back garden is like a park !! Plenty of room for a nice conservatory too, lucky girl ! i only took in a few outdoor plants, but they're so big and heavy it's hard to repot them, so fingers crossed about bugs. Thanks for sharing it all, and your new light fixtures look a great idea and have inspired me to tidy mine up too ! 💚🌿
Thank you for watching the whole thing 🥺it was a long weekend but glad to have it all done. We feel so lucky to have this space here and would love to have a greenhouse one day and some garden beds too! Hopefully, your plants remain pest free!

Congrats on the 40k! 🎉 you will certainly hit more soon since you are amazing and encouraging. Honestly, I had similar chores and it’s easier for some reason after watching, I’m not alone 😂. I can get overwhelmed with my collection sometimes but I can’t seem to give any of my plants away and when I see a beauty I can’t say no 😅. I have been afraid of mealy bugs and for that reason I haven’t purchased many Hoya. You inspired me to try some new ones ❤. You should be so proud of your collections and hard work, truly inspiring.
I dont drink coffee ☕ too much anymore, but I noticed everyone is using a frother these days.🤔 Perhaps I should give it a try. Your coffee looks so good😊
The only real issue I encounter as a result of putting plants outside for the summer is slugs and snails. I usually sit them in water to the top of the soil to encourage the pesky things to come to the surface.

My 3 monstera deliciosa had thrips. Such a pain. Immediately washed the leaves with Castile soap, alcohol, and water mixture. Glad it could help! Sorry about the thrips 🥹 I keep seeing how bad they got this year and I definitely can understand the frustration! I hope they are gone for good!!
@@plantsbymelissa I was able to identify the thrips because of all the close ups of the larvae on your plants. One of my monstera deliciosa is a sport variegated find from Trader Joe’s that was $12. It hurt cutting off 4 leaves but I could’ve lost the plant entirely.
I also will not be putting as many plants out next summer. Hey melissa! My alocaisa has a fungal problem, and i just repotted it. I'm sure it's going to throw a hissy fit. Do you have any advice? I could really use it!
I don’t know Melissa, is it worth putting some plants outside? I am 80 and have had plants most of my life. Always inside year around though. I know you will find this hard to believe but I have never had pests on any of my plants and I have around 50 right now. I think if I ever find any I will just chuck it and be done with it. I never quarantine new plants either. Donna
We have 4 cats. One of them has been gone for a while but he has girlfriends somewhere. Our cats are outside cats. We live out in the country and they have a lot of room. But they come inside too and they purr so loudly sometimes. Tofu, Alura, and Zelda. They're my kids' cats and don't ask me where they get these names. 😅
I was wondering the same thing. First I was surprised that it got cold in Savanna, Georgia. When I think of Georgia, I think of heat and lots of it. So while I was watching the video, I decided to look up "average winter temperature Georgia" and was surprised to learn that it can lows of 32 degrees or lower can be expected between 40 to 50 days and that in North Georgia snow flurries can occur! Mind blown! Glad that I was not the only one to wonder about snow!
If it's starting to dip down to low 40's I try not to leave them out much longer. We had a random cold drop to around 35 and some leaves got some cold damage.

Donna
the ficus trees looked so sad.😕
This ficus probably wanted more water being outside and hot and windy
I definitely underwatered it 😫
She's purring in that mic. 😅
haha yes! She purrs really loud even louder than Chai lol
How I hate mealys! They always seem to pop up no matter what!!!!
Most definitely! I feel like they’ve been bad this year!
Do you get Snow in your State?
It can snow but I think that's rare lol. We moved from NC last year so it snowed a few times there but didn't get anything here last winter!
I spying a Cowboys flag!My Husban is a Cowboy fan !😊
Haha yes! He loves sports and his fav team in the NFL.
@@plantsbymelissa My husband born in New Jersey but moved to Dallas when he was 11 years old.
what kind of coffeemaker is that?
🤗💚🌿🌱
Where do you live that you have lizards
Savannah, Georgia :) lots of them here! They’re smaller so nothing crazy big 😂
What nighttime low do you bring them indoors?
If it's starting to dip down to low 40's I try not to leave them out much longer. We had a random cold drop to around 35 and some leaves got some cold damage.
@plantsbymelissa thank you for that advice. I brought my monsters in when it got to the low 50s because I didn't know what to do
Congratulations on reaching 40k! I have to say im not surprised, i really love your videos and im learning so much about plants. 😊💖🪷
Thank you so much! ☺️
i love you and your plants
