I liked how you referred to your plant as a beast, in a complimentary way of course. In this case it is beauty is the beast instead of beauty and the beast. Excellent video and thanks.
I loved this video because it was on a very affordable plant and showed you the process over time how you can really build up your plants. As a result of this I have bought a bag of Fluval stratum 😃 x
Okay, this is great!❤ Suggestion for your next propagation experiment....you should dawn a lab coat and professor glasses, place the plant species chart screenshot, and give a test at the end🪴🔬🌿🤓 Kidding of course😂 The classroom was definitely in session today📕🧑🔬👩💻🪴
Can't skip any of these! I feel so full now💚 Hmmm but I hope exotica gets a bigger pot huhu thank you for such a long satisfying video Melissa! Love from Philippines🥰
The first time I ever w my own eyes looked at a scindapsus I was amazed by the shimmer of the leaves. Did some reading about the silver shimmer. Instantly fell in love. At the time not so inexpensive sometimes at all. To say the least. Some still are but I had/having the best time hunting w out getting too far from budget. 😂 Sadly a few years ago I had to stop purchasing unrooted cuttings. Not the best or if any luck getting them to root. Love them just as much. Too late to say long story short so I'll just say thank you. After watching just part 3 I'll try again. ❤❤🌱🌱❤️❤️ SUBSCRIBED
I do feel like it matters what substrate , and the plants starting health on how the roots grow. I tried this myself without using fluval and I had such a mixed result . The leaves donlooo amazing in fluval and that’s the win for me :)
Thank you for taking the time to do a thorough substrate propping experiment, not just a couple weeks and then write off a substrate. Fluval Stratum has been my go to as well for about 6 months now. I don’t know what it is about perlite but it hates me and rots everything I try to prop in it ha My Hoyas and scindapsus love Fluval. I tried a combo mix for wet sticks and they have taken off… coco coir, perlite and fluval in a prop box.
It was so fun and happy to do this! I had it in my head stratum would win because I’ve been so impressed with it lately. I was a little disappointed in the perlite :/ I’ll have to do another one like this and try leca too!
Love the look of the jade satin! Great experiment. I didn’t expect the perlite to not do as well. The only scindapsis I have is an exotica and it is growing so well that I don’t want to cut the vines but I also want a fuller plant. Such a quandary. The trellis is so cute.
The jade satin is so pretty! I love the darker tone. I know I was surprised by the perlite too! It was an interesting experiment! The exotica did well propping! When you're ready to cut the vines definitely give it a go!
Hey Melissa, I have a question. In the back, you have all of your plants but multiple leaves have tags on them. Iv’e seen this in other plant creators videos as well. What are these for? 🤔
When I first began watching your videos it took me some time to adjust to your soft speaking. Now I’m loving your videos and various testing methods you do, I find them educational, Absolutely ❤️ your plant collection and how dedicated you are to plants.
This was great to see the different ways they responded. I love pictus. The Exotica is my favorite and my largest. I'm going to chop up my Argyraeus it is growing so spindly with small leaves. Thanks for a great video.
Which stratum can I use? just the fluval, I want to try it but it is a bit expensive and I want to know if there is another brand that works just as well for me☺
Hello Melissa from Puerto Rico!!! I did the same experiment except the Fluval which is new. I mixed moss and perlite and moistened it at the beginning. Didn’t touch it for 2 months. Very few rotted. I did pot them up recently and look fuller. Most of my plants were pothos. 🙋🏼♀️🪴💚🐩 I did like the lecca props with water and little superthrive.
Hi! I should have tried leca too! Darn haha, I'll have to do another experiment like this down the road with different cuttings to see how they all grow. I'm glad your props did well!
Hi Melissa! Since you are the fluval stratum queennnn, do you think I could prop a Monstera albo node in fluval? If so, how could I do this? Thank you for any advice😊
Now I really want to purchase my first scindapsus! What containers do you use to hold your rain water? The clear bottle with orange lid and handle? I have been looking for something like this with a nice handle to make my life easier but haven’t been successful.
You have THE NICEST PLANTS I've ever seen🤩 love your content! Which mix in this video did u have root rot in? I make my own now like you do. Absolutely beautiful plants💚
I just love these videos! Thanks for taking the time to do these! Also, do you plan to put your scindapsus on a pole? Is this the same plant as a satin pothos? I thought they were totally different but I googled it and a satin pothos popped up 😳
I enjoyed your video, I am having trouble with my moon light plant , the leaves curl it one of my favorite plant, if try the soil you mention , I couldn’t spell the word that you are growing yours in thanks.
Thank you! It's my normal mix I make up. It's fox farm ocean forest and I add extra perlite, orchid bark and charcoal. I add leca and some pumice most recently but not necessary!
In part 2 of this series (link is in description box of this video), Melissa shows how she does her fluval propagation setup and watering. It’s just a short segment, I think towards the end of the video.
Thank you! It happens! I think it's probably a combination of lower light as it trails and a lot of vining plants love to climb so they stretch out a bit looking for something to attach onto.
I looooooove Scindapsus so I REALLY enjoyed watching your success with these propagations. I have some props atm but sadly I only have Exotica and Argyraeus. Hoping Treubii Moonlight becomes available in Sydney 🙏🏼 So will you be using only Stratum from now on? Thanks for a great video 🥰
Thank you! Hoping you get a moonlight soon! I still use moss to prop in and sometimes water but fluval stratum will be my go to now. It can get expensive so I won't use it all the time :)
My skin abscess clippings have been sitting in water for two weeks and there’s anything happening at the nodes! What the heck? Each clipping has a leaf and at least one node so I’m totally baffled.
I first read that I was like WHAT?! auto correct haha. They take a while! I have had them root for months and still no node activation. Give it some time and they will eventually grow :)
Do the Sol Soils folks hate on you now? Such a shame that you had a bad experience. Hopefully it is not pervasive since I think a lot of folks have good experience with it.
Ever since I mentioned it on insta they found out because I have some trolls on there that watch my stories. We spoke via DM and they decided to unfollow me the next day and other accounts accused me of lying. I'm giving up my affiliate commissions because I don't like the soil and what it has done to my plants. Some people just promote it for the $ they get.
Do you continue to think that Dynamite is best fertilizer for which plant groups? Are you saying that fluval stratum is best rooting media for scindapsus or best rooting media for all plants 🪴..i have found that it is great for monstera peru and hoya.... Wow... how many plants do you care for at this point? How much ambient humidity do you provide in plant room? Really 😉 enjoy these indepth videos...
I feel like I haven't used it long enough yet to really know how it compares to osmocote. I might not even know until after this growing season. I think so far my plants are responding well to it. I have lots of new growth on several plants. I am trying to use it for everything I repot!
Yes! I'll film it as soon as I get them in! It was so fun! I still love propagating in all of them but I think for maybe some more expensive cuttings or props you want them to do well in stratum is amazing! Moss is still a favorite of mine!
Melissa, you should drink some wine during your long videos. I do😂
haha YES! I needed some after this one lol
What a fun video, loved it! Thank you. I have found them quite tricky but seeing your video makes me feel I might give them another chance!
I don't need chapters. I would love to watch the entire video 🫶🏻🌿
Thank you! 🥹
Love the effort you put into your videos, Melissa ❤ thank you!
Thank you so much! I appreciate that! 🤗
Loving the long videos lately! 💚💚💚

Love the in depth videos! Lots to look at. Can we get an alocasia corms update? 😊
Thank you! I was going to film an update this month! I share them all the time on insta though!
Your plants look so healthy and the leaves are huge. Thank you for the update and video.
That’s that good southern humidity and of course her green thumb.
@@VeryKinkyCurl I'm in Florida and the humidity does help but Melissa's plants look so healthy.
Love your videos. And love watching you pot those plants. They all look very healthy. Thanks for making this video.
They look really good in their new pots👍

Love the lengthy videos thanks for all the hard work i enjoyed this thanks

Lots of very helpful information once again. Really appreciate seeing exactly how you do this with the cuttings. Great job Melissa.
Oh my gosh... the satin jade... I have 2 cuttings with a leave on each haha. Dream of mine looking like yours, she's absolutely my FAV of yours!!
It's such a beautiful scindapsus! I hope you get some more growth on yours soon!
Hi enjoyed that video on how to use different methods.
I love your videos. Very informative and fun to watch. I’ve learned a lot from your videos. Thank you n happy planting 🪴🌿

Hi Melissa... another great video.
I was wondering if fluval can be washed and reused?
Thanks❤
I try to reuse what I can but I wouldn't wash it. It breaks down and gets mushy so I don't rinse it.

Did you keep a reservoir with the Fluval Stratum
Nope! I just water it when the level gets low. You can set it up that way though :)

Yes!! I haven’t tried a Thai but everything else I have propped in it has done so well ☺️
