Upgraded from the condor sentry to the 511. Huge upgrade due to the condor always moving around or coming loose from sprinting. Amazing entry level vest though.
Really solid review. I borrow my friends sometimes when we do murph at the station, and want to up the intensity on my home workouts due to the lockdown. I’ll be making the purchase tomorrow.
I got the 5.11 TacTec Trainer weight vest. It’s $135 in the US, Feb 2023, and it works GREAT! All the great things he said about this model apply to the more inexpensive, “trainer” version. I think that the more expensive one is intended for actual, tactical use, so if you’re using it only for fitness, get the Trainer model!💪🏼
Im considering buying the vest, my primary use being calisthenics and running. But it seems quite expensive if it can’t hold more than 20lbs? I’ve never owned one and want a solid vest that can go a long way, so it would suck to outgrow it’s weight limit..?
What about AR 500 I believe the banshee is USA made then you can stick real bulletproof plates and run with those in it . You will benefit with running with body armor, instead of just lead, it will cost the same as the 511
I notice they offer plate pairs of 10, 15, and 20 lbs. Would you recommend the lightest and gradually moving up or just starting with the 20 lb? I plan on using this for everything I can think of workout-wise. Pull-ups, push-ups, dips, inverted rows. Also, I just started running for the first time in years and am planning to run my first 5k in 2 months and figured this would be a good tool for building my endurance.
I think there’s mixed reviews and thoughts on using this for training to run. It can mess with mechanics. As far as the weight, I’m not sure what to recommend. I utilize the 20# just because that’s the weight for all of the CrossFit workouts.
Have you seen that 5.11 made sandbag carriers for this vest where u can add your own sand/weight alternative for the vest? What do you think about that product?
I read a review that says, that there is a „Crossfit-Version“ and a „Real-Tactical-Version“. The difference shall be, that the „Crossfit-Version“ has Velcro-Straps, that hold the plates on Spot when doing fast movements like Burpees and stuff. Is that true? Or was this on older Versions and now all the Versions are the same? Because I didn‘t find different Versions on the 5.11 website🤷♂️ the review is 4 years old, thats why I‘m asking😋 sorry for my english, I‘m from Switzerland😂
Hey thanks for watching! I haven’t heard of any different versions. The use for tactical version would still need the same functionality to keep ballistic plates in place, I’d imagine. From what I know, it’s just the TacTec vest for both uses. Hope that helps!
My plates are thin enough where I could add more on both sides, so it depends whether you purchase something like the laser cut thin ones. As far as the weight limit? I have no idea. How much are you trying to carry, Hercules? lol
This one might be overkill anymore since GoRuck and Rogue came out with plate carriers. They're both cheaper, and more minimalist. However, I'm still happy to have this vest. Just depends on your price range, and what you prefer.
It doesn't, but it should be noted that getting the 5.11 vest is overkill for using as a plate carrier. Since making this video, GoRuck and Rogue have each came out with plate carriers that are like half the cost. If I didn't have one already, I'd get one of those.
I think I found the Chinese manufacturer of this vest? I want to purchase it but I'm not 100% sure if its the wholesaler 5.11 uses. Only about 70 dollars. Hmm
@@WesJH Im a little bit confused. Is this pure gray?? Because if i watch out for storm then i see a gray one in the internet but yours looks little more like green.
5.11 actually began marketing it as a weight vest in 2015, and continues to do so on their website. I do understand that it was originally designed as a tactical vest, but this was a great business move on their part to expand their customer base. It is just one of the best all around tactical/workout vests out there.
Great review, I buy alot of 5.11 products here in the UK. I kind of already knew I was going for the 5.11 vest, but your review helped confirm that.

Good review brother! Love the 5.11 Vest
I like your review style. Sitdown with highlight vids. Good casual convo with all the info we need from 1st hand experience.🎉

Everyone that I know who’s made this purchase has had ZERO regrets. Enjoy!
how was it breaking it in, was it uncomfortable working out shirtless? also what plates you running ? Great review tho , keep it up brotha
Thank you for going in depth with using the vest on runs. I’m considering getting one and it would primarily be used for cardio/runs
Since I made this, rogue, 511, and GoRuck made simple plate carriers. I dont regret getting this one, but the cheaper ones are good.
Do you wash it and it like it air dry ? I assume the dryer would ruin it

I should maybe do an update. That trainer wasn't out when I did this one.
Does it include weights already?
I spent the $200 and bought all the training weights from rogue.
Haha same cast iron with the handles

Hey! Thanks for watching and I’ll definitely check their stuff out. Appreciate the recommendation
Dont get that plate brother lol.
great and informative video. you deserve more views on ur videos :)
do you think Emerson vest can also make a good vest for cross fit? or 511 is much better, thanks
Hi wes nice info and nice video. Was wondering is there's is one size only? Cuz everytime i got on the web is size small avaliable
This vest only comes in one size and is adjustable. Maybe the website you're looking at has that by mistake? 5.11 only shows one size.

Will the 11" x 14" Plates fit in the Plate Carriers
thank you
Can you double stack the plates on both front and back? Is there a weight limit to carry?

@@WesJH hahaha no not that much probably like 60 pounds total so two 13 pounds in each side
What’s your chest size ? I’m half poly half white as well and i wear xl-2x shirt wondering if this is too small for me??
I have a 44" chest and keep it at the standard setup. I'd imagine that it'd be adjustable to your needs.
Hey man I’ve been looking to get this vest for some time now, do you still recommend it for crossfit workouts?

New sub!
I dont listen to goggins book because I cant listen to it all the time and I dont want to use it as a crutch.
Chad energy
You think this will fit someone who’s bigger in size? 280lbs
I couldn’t say for certain but it’s very adjustable
Bear Komplex one is way better
You know the 5.11 TacTec plate carrier isn’t meant to be a weight vest.
5.11 actually began marketing it as a weight vest in 2015, and continues to do so on their website.
