I think it’s time for an updated video. MIR came out with their slim fit vest, Ethos came out with a plate carrier style vest, Walmart came out with Reebok vests. Love the videos and content you’re creating. Thanks Coop
Would like to hear about Wolf Tactical too
I use a Run Max weight vest on the treadmill. I bought the 40 lb (10 x 4lb sandbags) version. It's fairly comfortable, reasonably priced but does get in the way for push ups on the floor. Thanks Coop as always for your videos.
Just have kids and try to get them through an airport, no vest needed.
Or the zoo. Or a grocery store. Or anywhere for that matter.
@@GarageGymReviews silver dollar city?
That funny I subscribe to you
I own the rogue plate carrier and am a huge fan. It feels really good when doing movements and doesn't flop around.
As a Northgym vest owner, I can say the comfort is spot on. It does come with extra shoulder padding which helps. Not noted in the video which is worth mentioning about Northgym is that it comes with 2 sizes of midsection straps so you can better adjust the tightness of the vest.
Also, the plates are side inserts, not bottom inserts which is nice since there is almost 0% chance the weight falls out, if you don't secure it as firmly as you should ( ie user error)
Would it be a good choice to use for hikes?
@@OMAR-vk9pi I have one too. Yes it is perfect for that. Plenty comfortable and I think you can weight it up to 60 or so lbs
I've got that cap fitness vest. Wear it at work all the time and for walking. Paid about 70 for it at Walmart and absolutely love it. Better than what big five has.
Great selection as always. My budget option is the Decathlon vest. 50 bucks including 4 plates. Total weight of the set is 20pounds but you can exchange the plates for heavier options or buy additional ones.
Could you timestamp that one, that’s sounds like a way better budget option haha
It says they’re 150??
If I'm spending cash on a plate carrier I'm buying ballistic plates. It's a great multitasker.
I was just thinking the same thing
And illegal in some states (or if you’re a felon) so check your local laws first. But, in principle, I agree with you. Why not?
Never check your local laws.
If it has MOLLE attachment points, one can hang a bunch of loaded mags on it too for more weight. 🙂
Appreciate your upload & reviews 👍. Its a good in depth review.
Hey man thanks alot for the review. Really helped me come to a decision about what I need. Cheers.
I used a 5.11 tactec for not only workouts but also force on force training with simmunitions its pretty decent for running and gunning and working out
Great review...thanks, Coop!
appreciate the video! very insightful and helped me out :)
Greant. Im totally in on the ez vest. Exactly what I was looking for.
Jim Wendler would be so proud you are showing so many weighted vest options. Nice assortment.
You read my mind I’m currently looking for a weighted vest. Thanks, very timely!
These should all be $50 without weights. Possibly the most over-priced category for a home gym owner.
Agreed. A backpack with sturdy belts and straps might be a viable option…. Gonna start looking.
Good timing for the video!
Great video, thanks!
11:42 Kensui provides shorter XT sleeves for floor push-ups.
Awesome review... it helped alot... I think I'll get the north gym
I just purchased the rogue plate carrier with the 10lbs pair and was needing something I could wear all day through work and my work outs and this video confirmed I made a good choice cause I haven’t got to use it yet so thanks
Had the GoRuck plate carrier and hated it. Rubbed blisters up and down my back. Switched to the GoRuck weight vest and it’s infinitely better and more comfortable. I use it several days a week and have absolutely no problems with it
Wish he had done a review on the GoRuck weight vest instead of the plate carrier.
What type of workout do you use it for? Are you able to run with it comfortably? Thanks!
Yes! A review for the GoRuck Weight Vest would have been great!
Personally, the Kensui vest is my pick. Coop, you forgot to mention the different options on the pins; the low profile pins are amazing and makes the vest fit perfect for the lighter weight setting.
Are you able to run with it? I’m in the market and don’t really run but if I had the inkling to run or do plyometrics it would be nice if this worked for that as well.
@@wakawaka1976 Yes I run with my vest. They now have the short sleeve to put on lighter weight plates (not the bulging bar used for heavier weight plates). There's even a phone accessory for the kensui vest.
@@firemanv1 cool I ended up getting the Kensui and have gone on walks to the park where I do dips and pull-ups. It’s nice
I’m afraid I’m goin* to look like a dick if I go rucking in public with it tho
@@nyunixguru You should not care what strangers think of you. Be a leader not a follower.
Hey Coop, love these type of videos where you review competitors in the same category. I've been looking into adding sandbags/waterbags to my workouts and was wondering if you had any recommendations for them?
Yes, love to know the sandbag comparison video
Rogue. Iron mind. REP
I have a 40lbs V-max weight vests I like because you add and remove weight in 2.5 increments. Also made in the US.
If you don't need a very specific weight but rather just want to find a way to throw weight into a vest you can go the route of one of the hollow plastic airsoft plates and fill it. Most people I saw online filled it with sand. Filled mine with cement and ended up a bit heavier than the sand. Each plate is a little off from each other but I wasn't really worried about getting everything to match or to a specific weight. They fit into the carriers like real ballistic plates do. The plastic plates were $12 a piece and from there whatever the cost of your fill (sand, cement, plaster, etc) that isn't going to cost a lot. Not the most durable but super cheap.
I have the Bear KompleX plate carrier, coupled with the Cati Armor Non-Ballistic Ergonomic plates. Conforms to body curvature and easy to run with.
The kensui vest really needs some kind of racking system, especially since they go up to 300 lbs. I can think of a few ways that could be implemented
Agreed!!
You're right! I am taking off my glasses before getting into it and using my GHD to prop up oneside. 🤓
@@GarageGymReviews I think one way would be to attach carabiners to the tops, then have two cables with carabiners on a pull-up bar. Clip in to rerack, clip out to unrack
My main concern beyond just looking extra if going for a walk with it. Can’t imagine running with it.
I do HIIT and used the North Gym vest. I've had it for about a year and it's really good. One thing I recommend if to spray it with Lysol and hang it to dry because they can get stinky.
Very helpful!
I have the Hyper Vest Pro and love it. My size large holds 33lbs. I looked at the Elite but felt it was limited by its max weight.
I love my Kensui EZ Vest Pro. I use it for hiking too.
How long did the vest take to arrive?
very good, thanks for review.
Freedom Strength Co has a good one that is similar to the 5.11 style, it has the same type of metal clips similar to what was shown on the Kensui. Comes with 20 lb sand filler but can fit standard plates. Ive had one for 3 months now and very happy with it for running/walking or functional exercises too.
Awesome reviews and well done video. I will probably go with the hyperwear as I have always had issues with my vests bouncing around 😠
At my gym we have a Cap fitness style vest that I used one year for Murph; during my pull ups (kipping/butterfly) the sand would come out of the bags and was flying up then down onto my face. That was the year(like 5 years ago now) I bought my 5.11 Tec Tac carrier, this was back when it came with the flat weight plates from Rogue and they were uncomfortable because you felt like a sandwich, I later got curved plates for it and it is awesome now. I have been using it every year for Murph and other weighted training
Solution:
Do real pullups😂
Thanks for the laugh boo
The Kensui vest is intriguing
Top content as always. What do you think about the GORuck weight vest compared to the other top pics?
I have a Gymnast Pro vest that has been incredible & I use with my personal training clients frequently. I can modify weight in 1KG increments up to 45lbs. Padded shoulder straps, super durable.
im loving mine
Checking in with the Armored Republic Veritas Plate Carrier and two ROGUE plates. Probably paid top dollar because I purchased them at the beginning of COVID, but they've been comfortable and effective!
Great video
I have a CAP weight vest. When I need my vest to be heavier, I take my dipping belt and attach it to the weight vest. I run the dipping belt's chain through the nylon straps where the sand bags go in kind of clever way and I can put more weights on the chain. Just saying, you might be able to find a way to add more weight to your vest instead of shelling out for a heavier one.
Thank you for this informative review! I'm curious about the TRX weight vests, if you ever do an update.
Have several vests now. Started with a sandbag vest, now use a condor vest(not the one in the video, upgraded one) and we cut our own weights out at home from plate steel with a torch. Clean them up and run them. Granted not everyone can do that.
My Brute Force weight vest #trainwithsand has been a good option for me. I will say the top Velcro strap is not the easiest to get in and out of, but once your in it stays, running, burpee’s, pull-ups. Plus the weight can be adjusted in smaller increments than a plate carrier. New version is out but haven’t tried it yet.
Hey Coop, great review!! How about the Brute Force APC vest though? I currently have a plate carrier style vest that I’ve been using but have recently been looking pretty hard at the Brute Force one to try something different. What are your thoughts and would you ever do a review on one?
Thanks, Brett at FMC fitness
I like mine. It's just a vest, with thick shoulder straps, so the weight is spread out more, and my shoulders don't feel like they are being slowly cut through. It does not allow for full motion, in that putting my arms straight up, has a little less movement, but not fully restricted.
What I like is that the weights are tiny 1 kg bars, about the size of a Snickers bar.
this means I can add/remove as much as I want.
there are 4 rows of 5. 2 on the front, and 2 on the back, so it's as balanced as I make it.
Since it's short bars, it allows for flexible movements more than the plates do
I have a 20lb vest from synergee. I do not use it a lot but I have had it for over a year and have no complaints. 20 lbs is a lot when you are doing crossfit type workouts. Kicks my butt everytime.
I see you have the goruck ruck plate carrier. Have you also tried their weight vest? If so how does it compare to the rest of the field?
As always love your channel and your reviews. Thx.
Hey coop! I know it’s off topic from your video, but you think you will give a review or opinion on “Bridge Built” racks; more specifically the phoenix squat rack?
I was just trynna buy one perfect timing
Coop, those NorthGym plates you like. How is the fit with Rogue vest? Would you order those or the echo?
Surprised the Heria vests aren't here, really expensive but doesn't limit movement, has great weights and looks sweet
@garagegymreviews Kensui ez vest has options now for different length sleeves that don’t get in the way of push-ups with weight on the chest side. Look at their site and go to accessories! I have all those and can use the vest for push-ups better and not have the sleeve in the way. My only complaint is loading very heavy weight on the vest (over 100 lbs) is hard to get on and off without help
My choice is one you didn't mention. The safelife carrier (any style) with the rogue plates. I think their uniform shirt style carrier looks classy, and you can also use it to carry body armor ;-).
The GoRuck Training Vest would have been good to include on here. It's a full vest, not backpack style, and has a really good comfort factor.
I have a BOX 40 lb vest. It uses small iron weights that you can take out and put back in to adjust the weight from 10 pounds up to 40. It is very easy to take off and put on and the trap/shoulder straps are padded and very comfortable to wear. The chest straps are very quick and easy to adjust with a clamp style fastener. I highly recommend people check it out.
The benefits of living in a military town is picking up actual body armor vests with many of these features in mind for dirt cheap at surplus stores. AATW!
I have the hyper vest elite, very good. I’ve had 511 etc. Depends what you are doing for which you pick
Coop, I currently have the Condor Plate Carrier and it bounces when I run. I'm considering the Rogue carrier but am wondering if that bounces too.
Crye JPC with Hesco ballistic plates and 7 fully loaded AR-15 mags, along with medical and extra tourniquets.
That intro was sick!
The “Box” weight vest is an option you didn’t mention. Like all of them, it’s not perfect but it’s a decent option.
great review, im currently using an MiR vest and I absolutely love it. What I like the most aside from others is that my vest doesn't cover my abdominal section which I find is nicer when working out your mids. Sit ups, back extensions and even hanging leg raises to help with grip work. anywho, again great review!
Good input. Didn't think about situps
2nd MiR
I would say your are sleeping on the Bear Komplex vest. Curved plates, great vest with tactical side clips for quick in/out. Love mine
Bulldog gear vest expensive but solid had mine about 3 years still looks new
What are your thoughts on the MiR short vest? Not covering the midsection seems more breathable.
Any thoughts on the ironmaster weighted vest yet? Seems like a good pic if you've already got the DBs.
As an IM owner, I am intrigued. I also wonder if I can essentially use my plates in a Rogue or other plate carrier 🤔
i would really love to see you do a review for the best wrists straps. I've been looking around and i'm somewhat overwhelmed by choice, price, length is one even essential? need coop to help me out
I wish you would have included the Tribe WOD weight vest and Cati Armor ergonomic fitness plates. That's what I use and would be curious on your opinion on how they compare.
The Strength Co. Plates. Nice.
He ain’t blinking
No block weight vest like v-force, MIR, or even Titan?
First time viewer here, what vest would you recommend for a bigger guy? I’m 5’11” 290 lbs. I wear a xl-xxl shirt
Do one on dip belts!!!
Hey Coop, please review the products from UnBroken. Both their weight vest and their humongus back pack.
RX+ plates are the best plate inserts. They are Rogue style but curved front AND back! But yes just focusing on the weight vest I agree Rogue or Tac tec is best.
Thanks Coop! Is there anywhere we can grab those GGR patches to show support? 🏋🏻
Working on it. Not yet!
What vest would be best for Bigger guys I am 6'4 and +300lbs for now?
my vote for hypervest. I wear mine weekly for hikes and during bodyweight style workouts. easy to wear under a hoody and nobody knows I have it on.
Hey Coop, do the north made plates fit well in a tax 5.11 vest?
Perfect timing..i've been looking at buying. The one i've yet to pull the trigger on is the Box/V-Force made in america...any thoughts on this vest?
Love mine. Amazing quality, and the weight is more easily adjustable depending on what you want to use it for.
Kensui is the best ever. If you have fractional plates you can microload certain BW exercises. You can alternate laoding do you are getting a broader rep range. Ex: Instead of adding 20lbs to your push-ups and going from a set of 20 to a set of 5... you add .5lbs every week or two and keeping the same rep range.
Can you put the north gym plates from Amazon into the rogue plate carrier?
Best alternative weighted vest.. thanksgiving dinner
Would love for you to review the Mtn Ops vest
The Bear Komplex vest would have been a good one to add to the review list
Running in a weight vest has never sat right with me. It makes only some sense to have something pushing you down, but it makes a lot more sense having something pulling you back. I especially don't like the idea of increasing the impact on my joints.
Tie a rope around your waist and you can just drag the vest as you run.
Yeah it’s a really dumb idea. Weight vest are useful and no reason you can’t hike with one but jogging in a weight vest is a terrible idea for your joints
@@billo3314 Yeah, running is about moving forwards, not up. Hence it doesn't make sense to have something pushing you down
I guess my friend who is 20lbs heavier than me shouldn't run at all. He'll probably blow out both knees at once and and fall into a pit of despair.
@@LanceKAT That's not the point. The point is it would not be smart for you to put on a 20 lb vest to go running
EPIC
I have a 40lb xvest. Very comfortable for pull ups, dips and walking the dogs. It’s biggest benefit is that it goes from no added weight to 40lbs (plus the weight of the vest) in 1lb increments.
Why are the plate carrier vests so
much more popular than the 1lb weight vests?
hello, what size vest (Rogue plate carrier) do you recommend if I'm 5.7 tall and have a 32 inch waist? I don't know whether to choose S or M. Thank you.
Completely skipped the V Max / V Force weight vests, or the Titan vests with ingots. This style is my choice because it’s easy to change the weight quickly and all the weight is contained in the vest
I have a V-Max/V-Force set that I have used for at least 10 years. My V-Max set has two separate vests that can be used in tandem for a load of up to 100 lb. loaded with 2.5 lb ingots. Very rugged, and conforms well to my torso. These have been great for calisthenics-type training.
@@stephengrisetti6200 Yep, I use mine all the time. I like how simple it is, and that I can throw all the weights in the vest, throw it in the trunk of my car, and have my full gym with me wherever I go.
bets vest for jumping jacks regarding stable fit and adjustable weights?
I'm 6'8 280 and I have a very long torso and as such most weight vests fit like a tube top. Would any of these actually be long enough to reach just above my hips?
I prefer for the weight to be evenly distributed and also I don't like wearing what looks like a tactical tube top.😅
Thank you
Thanks for the review! I’m wondering if you (or anyone) knows where I can find a nice, wall mount weight vest hanger that will look great. I can’t seem to find any. Thanks!
How do you feel about the Gofit weighted vest
What about weight vest for the bigger guys. I know quite a few don’t wrap around us big boys out here 😂💪🏽
I'm assuming when you say flack jacker what you really mean are plate carrier that hold ballistic boy armor plating. It's surprising that you list the GORUCK RPC while completely missing the GORUCK "training weight vest" which is a de factor plate carrier. You can use whatever plates you want in that model. Second, one of the big ones you missed was the HRT "HRAC" plate carrier. it's completely modular so you can use a velcro cumberbun if you want over the buckles. But more importantly, you can zip attach a hydration bladder to it and run the hose through the velcro loops on the shoulder straps. IMO it's a game changer.
I have been looking at the Outdoorsman's Atlas Trainer Frame System, and would have liked that included. It isn't as form fitting as some of the others, but it is a pack oriented style frame that allows for standard weight plates.
