      Adjust the shoulder straps so that the front plate sits right at the very top of your sternum, where your collar bone meets your sternum. Then make sure the back plate aligns with the front. They should be sitting even with each other. If the back plate sits a touch higher than the front, that's okay, as long as it's not uncomfortable and the front plate is right at the sternal notch.
      Adjust the cummerbund so that the plate carrier fits snugly against your body, but not so tight that it restricts range of motion. You should be able to take a full deep breath, without feeling like the plate carrier is restricting you.
      Hopefully this helps

  • @DJTheMetalheadMercenary
    @DJTheMetalheadMercenary 3 роки тому +2

    The only thing I don't like is that the cummerbund is sectional and that the cord is a little too easy to accidentally pull out. *Pro tip- I used a spare nylon MOLLE strap to lock them together in the back so it the cable is pulled out accidentally the cummerbund doesn't fall apart/ out of it's seating in the back portion of the carrier. Could also use 550 cord to accomplish the same thing lashing them together, there's enough play in the elastic sides that normal adjusting is easy. I also recommend taking some colored 500mph tape and wrapping it around a point on the cord behind the looping on the shoulders so it's harder to pull out once adjusted, little extra security.

  • @djjerz
    @djjerz 4 роки тому +30

    So like.. What if you ask a friend to bring you your vest and they grab it by the handle and your heavy plates cause the cable to come out and the carrier falls apart? Lmao

    • @knivesinedc
      @knivesinedc 3 роки тому +10

      Funny enough, this is actually the point of that handle. If you are injured in combat or training, the handle can be pulled, the armor sheds itself off of you, and medical teams have quick and easy access without having to cut it off.

    For anybody wondering, yes this carrier is a PITA, this video makes it look better than it is. With that being said it’s good quality. I currently use it as a trainer with 40lb’s total in mine, the worst part about these is that single point emergency release. I had to just tie my cable in the back to keep it from literally falling apart. It annoyingly comes off
    the velcro from the weight and lands under my neck.

    • @laingadaing
      @laingadaing 4 роки тому

      Did you get an answer to your question? If you mean loose in the cummerbund (waist strap) you can tighten it by folding up the flap at the rear and pulling the cable out of the lower back channel. Tighten the cummerbund by routing the cable a few molle sections over. The last step before he tucks the ends of the wire away are how you make that adjustment.

      The "self-ejecting" cable systems were the hotness when this vest first came out in 2011, and have since fallen out of vogue. Fastex buckles exist, so having a system to dismantle the vest while one is wearing so you can find/reach that wound no longer makes as much sense as it did. Now they're mainly bought by people for working out/crossfit.

    I’ve had this carrier for years now, my biggest complaint is the cables NEVER stay in place at the bottom of the carrier. They fall out causing the cummerbund to come loose from the rear. This happens Whether or not I’m using it for work or exercise. I had to stop using it at work because it’s a safety issue. It has actually failed in the middle of a manhunt. I will never trust my life with this thing again.

    Would be helpful to show how to size it properly, not just rip out the spine and then remake it. I was not cool enough to learn this in camp.

    I think the video is great explaining how to disassemble and reassemble, but the explanation of how this process is a part of the actual adjustment totally missed the mark for most people.
    The point where he is looping the cable through the first shoulder strap is where he says something like, "repeat this process until you get the right fitment" or something to that effect.
    Most people probably viewed this simply as a how to disassemble and reassemble video. He breezed right over the point where you would actually make an adjustment.
    Recommendations for where on your torso this should sit would have been good too. For those who don't know how it should fit and plan to use it for it's intended purpose, which is carrying body armor plates, would probably get this wrong too.

    For workouts this is fine. For real use, no. Not berry compliant.
    Not to mention Mayflower and First Spear kick 5.11's ass in terms of actual duty use gear. First Spear's tubes system is best for quick donning & doffing.
    But if you're crossfit and wanna be tacticool, this is your stuff.

    Is there any reason why this vest couldn't be used as a real tactical plate carrier (with proper ballistic plates of course)...
    I mean is there some sort of an industry wide secret that these should be thought of as different from the real thing?
    Just by looking at it, one should be able to throw in the 12x10 plates, add some mag pouches for the SHTF scenario?

      So there are actual physical/dimentional differences?
      Do you know specifically what they are?
      I'm not trying to be a dick with all the questions, I'm just trying to get to the bottom of this.
      The manufacturers might say that one is meant for "tactical purpose" and one is meant for "weight training"...but they do not elaborate on the WHY.
      I'm trying to figure that one out, as it is in my nature to seek deeper understanding of things...lol
