Learn How to Paint NUT CRACKING SQUIRREL with Acrylic - Paint & Sip at Home - Step by Step Tutorial

- VIDEO DESCRIPTION This painting tutorial will take you through easy to follow, step-by-step instructions on how to paint this adorable woodland animal portrait image of "NUT CRACKING SQUIRREL" with acrylic paint. You'll learn simple painting techniques that will help you to develop a realistic shape and form on this fluffy small outdoor critter who is trying his hand at opening a large walnut with his handy red axe. As he plants himself firmly on the rustic old stump, he muscles up the strength to chop into the top of the strong tree nut in hopes of opening the shell to discover a big flavorful lunch inside. This painting is filled with the inspiration of a child’s imagination with a little whimsical touch. You could even have your squirrel wearing a sweater or a flannel shirt to put him right into the forest atmosphere looking like a lumber jack… just let your imagination steer the evolution of this painting. With the dramatic texture of the fur and the out of focus evergreen glow behind him, the image takes on a country sheik look. You’ll learn how to build the fur using layering and stippling techniques creating dimension throughout the body. The painting will come to life with the shimmering twinkle in the eyes and the 3d illusion from the axe and the stumps. Bringing this cute little squirrel to life will feel magical, but you’ll also learn some valuable lessons along the way to create realistic looking elements that will appear to pop out of the canvas with a real photo quality. With perfectly proportioned features in the rodents body and realistic movement in the arms and tail, the round sitting squirrel will look like he’s ready to start stashing away his cache of protein packed snacks. The soft color in the fur, with the texture and dimension, lets you imagine how cuddly this little guy (or girl) is in real life. With the construction of the composition you'll learn to paint this realistic looking charming friend who is exercising his right to crack nuts with force. Creativity is always encouraged, just have fun with it! This painting is sure to impress the viewer and compliment the décor of any room. Using only 3 brushes and 7 colors we'll create this conversational masterpiece with a magnificent enchanting and loveable plush small woodland animal with a captivating expression, who’s excited about the day in front of him. So let's get painting and let's get sipping!

Yea I love doing the animals the best. Thankyou.
Have you ever done a brown or black bear? or even a wolf?
So much fun! Thanks for another winner!!
I LOVE squirrels and he is the cutest little thing GREAT JOB
Thank you!
I painted this and embellished a little on the larger stump giving it an almost life-like appearance (got carried away with the stippling). My original intention was to paint a gray squirrel (we have them here in abundance) but couldn't find the complimentary color scheme to work with so made it like Michelle's here and it still came out beautifully. First try...too! Thank you Michelle for your step-by-step instructions. You are one of the best instructors on UA-cam.
Great job! Thank you so much!
❤
And girl I only wish that have your talent
All you got to is give it try girl!
Wow the details are unbelievable 🐿
Thank you!
He turned out so lifelike and adorable!
What a wonderful painting! You never fail to please Michelle! So glad to you see looking well and doing well!
trying to decide which painting I want to spend the day on. this is one choice lol. At my first house there was a black walnut tree growing in the back. I had absolutely no idea how to prep them until long after (internet wasn't around then). They look like green golf balls. the flesh (inedible) is pealed off just to get to the shell of the nut (seed). Squirrels were all over the place then lol... especially in the autumn when the nuts fell off the trees.
Good choice!
This squirrel came out beautiful I love it and can’t wait to paint and sip with my family and you of course lol
Thanks so much 😊 I hope you have fun painting with your family...and me!
😍😍❤❤

Super inspiring!
You're amazing!! I think you can paint anything!!! I wasn't sure about the squirrel at first but I knew you'd pull it off & make him look so realistic!!! That's why you're my favorite artist!!! ❤❤❤❤❤🎨🖌🎨🖌
Thank you so much!
When you begin to make those circles for the body it seems that everything looks so large. But as you begin to develop the body parts nothing continued to look oversized. I then see how much I missed about learning to draw or paint. I have been watching your videos for a few days none stop. Just to absorb the amount on information going into your work. It is helping me change my approach to creating shapes like none of my former art teachers ever offered. I think we had so much to cover and many of the students had previously studied some stages of developing figures. What a high from watching you!
Nice! I am happy to hear that! Thanks for watching and enjoy the high!
Your squirrel is so darn cute!! Great tutorial... I just loved it... Thank you 💕

Thanks so much 😊
I'm loving the little squirrel! I'd love to see you paint a solid black squirrel doing something. Black ones are so pretty and I know you'd do a beautiful one.
Great suggestion! Thanks!
@@michellethepainter. your so welcome. Black squirrels are so beautiful their fur is so shiny and has a bit of a deep blue hue too it. I know you can paint one that's beautiful. Maybe climbing the side of a tree playing hide and seek with another or frolicking with another squirrel in a meadow of flowers. Just an idea.
@@theresavandever1387 Nice idea! We'll see!
@@michellethepainter. 🥰❤️🙏
Thank you Michelle,🎖️🎄🎖️🇦🇺
Discovered you this week and i am totally in awe of your work. So i decided to try to replicate your work digitally in Procreate on my ipad. Today i tried my luck on this cute little squirrel, and yesterday i did the Kardinal birds and the birdhouse in the snow. I am very happy with the results and the fact that doing this helps me distract myself from everything that goes on in the world at the moment. Finding you is therefore gold. Thank you and greetings from the Netherlands!
Thank you very much! I hope all is well in the Netherlands!

Michelle your paintings and instructions are great. I’ve only watched so far but going to get my supplies and work along with you. I’m going through my final cancer radiation treatments and so hoping to gain my strength back soon. As soon as I do this is the first thing I want to accomplish.
Hi Rhonda, I wish you well in your recovery. I hope painting will give you some hope and comfort along the way. Take care and be well.
Omg this is adorable!
Squirley girl! So cool!
I sketched this one also with my colour pencils. Thanks for sharing this beautiful painting.Wish I could share my sketch with you.
Thank you so much 😀
I am thinking that as a new acrylic painter I might buy some stock in the paper towel industry!!! With your awesome teaching and subject choices I think there will be a lot more demand for it!!! LOL!!! I go through a lot of paper towels when I am painting. Not sure what that is saying exactly but I keep a good stock on hand now!!!!!
I guess you might have to buy a few rolls! Keep on painting!
I love your paintings thank you for teaching us
Thank you so much 😀
Michelle, I have tried to watch your videos when ever I have time. You are great and I am looking forward to your shop re-opening. I hear you speak about student grade paints and why you use certain brushes and even drying between step. What I would like is a video about paint qualities and why you may use different ones, brushes and their abilities. As a beginner I have made so many mistakes and have not known how to correct the problems I have created. Maybe questions O would have asked in your class. You are the best and I have followed your heath adventures. You look great.
