- VIDEO DESCRIPTION - This painting tutorial will take you through easy to follow, step-by-step instructions on how to paint this fun and exciting surreal literature landscape image of "TURN THE PAGE TO AUTUMN" with an energetic mystical feel and realistic look to it. You’ll learn how to paint this magical storybook with inspirational imagery and imagination flying and growing out of the pages right in front of your eyes. Learn how to use simple painting techniques for blending the background for added depth and atmospheric dimension. You can personalize the type of tree, type of landscape, or colors, to symbolize your favorite place, time of year, or location. Maybe you paint a beach with the ocean wave crashing out of the book, or a cityscape with tall skyscrapers emerging from the story. Instead of a fall scene, you could paint a winter scene with snow on the ground, no leaves on the tree and icicles or snow flakes in the sky, or paint a spring scene with flowers blooming all over it using sunset or sunrise colors for the atmosphere, perhaps a night scene would be lovely with a bright moon and stars. This is a painting inspired by the power of imagination, so feel free to use yours! Let the book be large and the colors natural with vibrant hues using a carefree paint stroke. You’ll learn how to add texture to the grass and tree to create a 3D effect like a photograph. The leaves will come to life with the action of falling out of the tree and being blown, or carried, through the magical windy dust. With the transitioning of size from small to large, you’ll create realistic movement that will lead the viewers eyes to travel through the painting with the leaves as they emerge from the branches. The complimentary colors will bring cohesion and harmony, creating a symphony of illuminating glows surrounding the focal point. You’ll learn to paint a realistic looking autumnal tree that pops with energy, a glowing sky that has atmospheric dimension and an antique style open book with proper proportions. Influenced by fantasy thoughts and creative curiosity, this painting becomes a symbol and visual picture of the power of reading and the exploration of our inner artist. You'll learn to paint this captivating landscape with depth, contrast and natural colors that will produce an image that is inspirational and beautiful. Using only 3 brushes and 7 colors we'll create this conversational masterpiece that is sure to compliment any décor. So let's get painting and let's get sipping!

Acrylic Paint: titanium white, mars black, burnt umber (brown), green oxide, deep yellow, chrome yellow, chrome orange
Other: white chalk, palette, cup of water for washing brushes, paper towel for drying brushes

STEPS:
1. 1/2 inch bristle brush - Paint background with black, green and white
2. chalk - Draw outline of book
3. #10 round brush - Paint base coat of book with green, orange, brown, black, deep yellow, white
4. 1/2 inch bristle brush - Paint background glow with deep yellow and white
5. #10 round brush - Paint tree trunk and branches with black, brown, orange, deep yellow, white
6. 1/2 inch bristle brush - Paint leaves on tree top and grass on top of book with orange, deep yellow, green and white
7. #1 round brush - Paint falling leaves with orange, deep yellow, white and black
8. #1 round brush - Finish detail on book with white, green, black, brown, orange and deep yellow
9. #1 round brush - Paint sparkle dots with chrome yellow and white
10. #1 round brush - Sign with black

I truly love watching your videos, you make it so easy to follow the instructions. You mention that all your canvas is primed, do you prime them, and if so, with what, or do you buy them primed? Keep the paint flowing.
Thank you! I buy all my canvases already primed. It's easier for me considering the amount I paint! You could buy yours and prime them with acrylic gesso if you prefer. I hope this helps!

I get so excited when you post a new video. I recently followed another painters tutorial to paint a specific picture for my dad. I am on take "3" I almost trashed the whole thing. I finally had to break the process down to paint it like I have learned from you, and I am finally almost done! Michelle is by far the best teacher and her art is incredible. I can't wait to try this. Suggestion: How about a giant muffin with just a half a head and big eyes.. to go with the Giant coffee cup painting?
