- VIDEO DESCRIPTION This painting tutorial will take you through easy to follow, step-by-step instructions on how to paint this spiritual bird portrait of "CARDINAL BIRD BATH" with a striking color, this long-tailed songbird common in the North Eastern continent of North America brings a sense of comfort to many, as it is believed that the cardinal appears when an angel is near. As this male bird takes a dip in his personal pond, you can feel the summer heat bouncing off of his vibrant feathers. Surrounded in a natural scenery of daisies and wild grass, the bird bath is complimented by the bold reflections in the water. You’ll provide a natural setting for the grosbeak bunting bird with the reflective ripples implying that he has just landed or is wading in the pool. You'll learn simple painting techniques that will help you to create this realistic piece of art with a robust round red bird cooling off under the veil of a hot summers day. With a graceful proud posture, he’s sure to lure in a beautiful female too. You’ll learn to paint this three dimensional looking bird with dimension, texture and a lifelike expression. With a layering technique you'll learn how to create shadows in and around the bird body and in the flowers providing shape and form. The water will come to life as you transfer the surrounding colors into it with a zig-zag brush stroke. You'll learn to paint this beautiful animal portrait with depth, contrast and natural colors, creating an image that will have your imagination running wild with this majestic stately bird’s delicate feathers and strong dominant presence. Using only 3 brushes and 6 colors we'll create this conversational masterpiece inspired by family, nature, spring and new beginnings, that is sure to bring lively energy on the wall of any home. Canvas: 16x20 stretched primed canvas Brushes: 1/2 inch flat bristle (large), #10 round synthetic (medium), #3 round (small)
Acrylic Paint: titanium white, mars black, burnt umber (brown), green oxide, deep yellow, fire red
Other: #2 pencil, palette, cup of water for washing brushes, paper towel for drying brushes

STEPS:
1. pencil - Separate canvas into 3 sections with outline
2. 1/2 inch bristle brush - Paint base coat of water with black
3. 1/2 inch bristle brush - Paint background with white, yellow, green and brown
4. #10 round brush - Paint 1st layer of bird bath border with brown, black and white
5. pencil - Draw outline of bird
6. #10 round brush - Paint base coat of bird and reflection with red
7. #10 round brush - Finish bird bath border with black, white, brown and gray (made in step 4)
8. #3 round brush - Paint 1st layer of facial feature with red, yellow, white and black
9. #10 round brush - Paint 1st layer of feathers with black, brown, red and yellow
10. #3 round brush - Finish face with black, white, yellow, red and gray
11. #10 round brush - Finish feathers with red, yellow, white and brown
12. #10 round brush - Paint daisies with gray, white, brown and yellow
13. 1/2 inch bristle brush - Paint reflection in water with yellow, white, green, red and brown
14. #3 round brush - Sign with black

I love this because I have a bird bath in my front yard and bird feeders and flowers! I have lots of red Cardinals that visit. I think they love the black oil sunflower seed. I love to sit on my porch and watch them. It really is simple things in life.

Beautiful! Love painting birds. Especially ones in bird baths, since the birds around me prefer the puddles in front of my house, rather then the bird bath. Lol

They can show up as messengers to give you encouragement to keep pushing towards your goal, or to give you comfort after the loss of a loved one. It can be a sign of good luck to see cardinals frequently."

I did not know that you do not have cardinals out in your area. Paint the cardinal a different color, don't paint the black mask, and maybe it could represent a bird in your backyard!
