Awesome how u are careful in these caves to preserve them the best u can 👍
Thanks. In these ones with a lot of formations... We have to be super careful. It is not even really loved within the caving community that we show videos of them. So we have to take extra care not to show locations or anything.
@@CalvinHikes I know you wouldn't want people going to the locations and defiling the formations but are there really anti-spelunkers going around just to destroy the fun for other people? Me being someone who doesn't cave wouldn't waste my time going to a cave to destroy structures, but I don't know.
@@Pihan- No there aren't any people looking to destroy caves. And there aren't anyone who's going to come out to these caves ever.
Our care of this cave location is a courtesy to the people who are stewards over the caves of this area. I think they are overjudging people's zealousy to find caves like this and go in them. But it's not always our call. The caving community works together to share information and so we have to be respectful of what other groups want also.
With highly sensitive caves like this it doesn't take much. Even good cavers with good intentions over time will damage parts of the cave. So it's also about limiting all cavers... even respectful cavers like us.
I'm telling you it's a sensitive community!
@@CalvinHikes have you ever thought about being a cave guide like if my wife and I want to get into this we are a big fan since watching your videos we have gone on hikes more we want to get into caveing for out 10th anniversary we would like for you to take us on one if you wouldn't mind I would pay so plz let me know.....
wow....absolutely stunning. that is truly one of the most beautiful caves you've shown us. the natural formations are breathtaking.
When this guy was born, he probably tried to crawl back in.
Its like traveling to another world when going on this adventure with you guys! Really very enjoyable. Makes me wish I was in my younger body and could still get into places like this.
So this is the next best thing for me and others who are not willing to dive into these places.
There is something primal about caves and deep places. Those places that squeeze and tighten up around you is much like the trip we all took just to get to this place.
The squeeze we all took to get into life is next level.
Thanks for sharing this one with us here today.
You are certainly welcome
Imagine hearing an earthquake while being in a tight spot in a cave
Should that happen, we hope our audio is on at the moment.
Your intentional intro filter was so artsy! Nice addition. xD
Just watching makes me squirm. I could never be in a space where I couldn’t turn around like that. I would be terrified of the tiny space.
Why do I binge watch your channel with my heart pounding in my chest and my hands sweating? I could never do this but to watch you explain why you do what you do makes it somewhat comforting to know that you're not putting yourself in a no way out situation. When you say to only do this with a professional...you could not be more right. Why? Well, Nutty Putty comes to mind. Thanks for your videos.
You're welcome. Sometimes what we do looks dangerous but we will always get out.
I wish had the courage to go into these caves. I'm to classophobic to afraid. I would have a panic take. I get to see these beautiful caves. The rock formations are amazing. Thank you for sharing this video with us.
Courage can be built, you don't have to go caving for it.
I really appreciate how I can see your face as you excitedly tell us about these cave formations
Our happy place is underground.
This cave is literally the Sandblasted Corridors.
Except this cavy is virtually unknown outside a very few pro cavers. We’re 50 miles from ANY civilization.
Question: Did you put the cartoon filter on the footage of the outside entrance of the cave in order to keep curious amateurs from locating it?
Technically yes. I don't think anyone will ever find these caves ever in the history of all time. But the people who essentially give us the locations of the caves want us to hide the location. So it's a courtesy to those who share caving information with us so that they will not withhold information from us next time.
Caving is a private, sensitive world. The people and the caves.

Crazy is unique, right?
@@billsanders9387 Yes sir!!!!!
Congratulations on the article in the guardian! Great video!
Ha, thanks! Was a fun interview.

One of the nicer things we get called. We tried normal once, but it didn’t work. Caveman’s dad
@@billsanders9387 believe me, nothing but RESPECT
i recently discovered both of your youtube channels and have been thoroughly enjoying working my way through your content... admittedly caving videos aren't something i would typically seek out as i find them quite stressful and usually feel anxious watching them as i'm sure a lot of people do... however, i'm really enjoying your content, your cave explorations are presented in a way that don't feel claustrophobic and as though their meant to play on those natural fears people have of being entombed... instead their actually quite exciting and informative... and have given me an appreciation for what you do... that being said, i could never do it myself but after watching you guys explore these incredible locations and hearing how passionate you are about them i can certainly understand how someone would be drawn to it...
Well thank you for all the kind words and welcome to the dark frontier.
One of the more articulate comments we have had regarding our passion for discovering the underground. Caveman’s dad
I have only just discovered your channel and spend my time watching through my fingers as what you do terrifies me, yet I find it totally fascinating! I totally admire your skills and efforts, here's to many more explorations! Thank you for sharing!
Kind words, and much appreciated. We’re just having the time of our lives.
Saw one of your comments in Larry Wheels video about Arm Wrestling. You guys just keep getting more relatable hahaha
Love Larry's channel! What a positive dude. Because of his channel I bought fat grips and it's changed my ability to climb inside caves. My grip strength is so much better. I didn't know it could have that big of an effect. It also helps for digging through caves as my hands just have so much more reliable strength.
Best part about these videos isn't the awful squeezes or clickbaity dangers but rather the passion and excitement you show for caves and cave formations.
That’s an awesome comment, and that is exactly how we feel. Thank you
Best channel on UA-cam .. thanks again for another video
You’re welcome. So many caves.
the lava candles really make me think of the city of tears from hollow knight
Saying the word terminal in a cave like this, is like saying bomb on an airplane.
wow....absolutely stunning. that is truly one of the most beautiful caves you've shown us. the natural formations are.
In person it brings tears of emotion. It boggles the mind. We did one this week that is stunning. Thanks for watching
If you aren’t pushing your helmet and lamp ahead and your pack isn’t tied to one of your ankles, it might not be all that tight. Extra points for water over the back and shoulders with a few inches of airspace.
I can’t imagine how hard it would be to squeeze through those tight passages while holding a camera on a selfie stick… it basically takes away use of one arm. Kudos to you guys for all your hard work, I’m loving this channel!
Thanks. The camera work is usually the hardest part. I'm used to most of it by now but I'd like to slow down and do even better camera work. In this case it wasn't too bad because the cave isn't freezing like most of the caves we go through.
Those corridors full of stalagmites are truly something else. The remind me of something churchlike.
Yea, this one has a lot going on. Considered a pretty special cave, as far as lava tubes go.
@@CalvinHikes And thank you guys for going in! Otherwise we little nervous types would never get to see it.

I absolutely love the way you narrate your videos. Both of your channels are 100% my favorite channels on you tube!
Kind words.
@@billsanders9387 I have a question do you guys ever get lost in a cave if so how do you guys get out?
@@tidamrrgood5350 Yes, and it’s on video. Some caves are very complex maizes…miles of crawling tubes. On rare occasion we have realized we were lost, but recovered our bearings before it became critical. We carry enough gear for such possibilities. Thanks for watching
@@billsanders9387 oh ok thanks for telling
Dang that's tight. Love your videos keep it up!
Not too bad. Clothes weren’t shredded. 🤪
thanks for sharing.
That fact that you guys are okay with going through those tiny little crack in the earth to get to beautiful formations of caves . Is amazingly tough . Thanks for showing us these beautiful formations below the earth!
Thanks for enjoying these places with us.
You know it getting serious when the piano kicks in.
As long as there are no bagpipes!
That’s some amazing geology! The lava tubes
You guys are crazy
We consider that a compliment.
Don’t know why but its kinda relaxing, should do some asmr cave sounds.
We upload loooong unedited versions on our 2nd channel and some people use them for ASMR. No music or narration just talking and clunking.
@@CalvinHikes ah awesome.
In the hospital setting we use slide sheets for patient transfers to decrease friction making movements much easier. I could see something like that being useful in your line of work. Great videos and best of luck!
Send us the slide sheets and nobody gets hurt. 🤪.
The lava forests are just great. Its like something out of a fairy tale.
Loved the outro!😆
To be honest, when I first came across these videos I thought you all were crazy. Although I still don't fully understand the enjoyment of being in such tight, dark places with high risk of danger, I genuinely appreciate the detailed info about parts of these caves. Please be safe.
We almost certainly are crazy. Maybe your first instinct was correct.
The information is really educational, love it, they made caving so healthy, coz other channels just emphasis the tightness and danger, and their painful faces, while Calvin’s channel is unique, you can feel the enjoyment of discovery in the caves
thought you were gonna try squeeze yourself into the chalice to see if there was another cave inside
Love the comment. We’ll send Jacob down.
@@billsanders9387 hahah wouldnt surprise me, im thinking of doing a trip soon to try find some local caves after being inspired by your videos. keep it up
The only thing I ever do well watching these videos is shake my head and close my eyes lol
Kinda how we go thru the really tight places.
I’ve been super interested in cave diving as of late and somehow this looks much scarier, the likelihood of getting stuck in one of these tight caves is way higher than in an underwater cave
All caves come with challenges, but already know that. We never have to fear exhausting our air supply.
Y’all are absolute mad men. I had to get under my house to fix a plumbing leak and I had just enough room to lay on my belly and crawl. About 12 inches total height. I started having an anxiety attack and couldn’t do it lol
Get it freezing cold, add a few bats and spiders and call it a cave. Good training.
i call this channel the anxiety channel
Great definition
Ive discovered this channel about 2 weeks ago, i have watched every video and im shocked how amazing this is. Something about this is speaking to me on a wierd level!!!
Love these videos please keep them coming!
+ a few questions : is cramp ever a concern in a tight place. How would you combat this? Do you ever worry of dislodging big chunks of cave ontop of yourself/is that possible? Thanks again guys!!!
I used to get cramps. The Secret is to work your muscles more when you are not caving. Cramps are because your muscles aren't used to being worked and don't have enough fluids.
Despite the horrible looks of the cave the real dangers are probably not anything that you would ever be able to think of. The biggest war down here is the temperatures. We don't really worry about anything else. We're just trying not to freeze to death most of the time.
WOW.... HOLY MOLY
I am so AMAZED.... DUDEEEE ... omG like WAT ...
NEVER Would I have the balls to do this, which i find super interesting because it shows me once again how DIFFERENT we all really are and the uniqueness of each is what makes the whole so countable.
so THANKS for being that kinda guy who can go through those narrow caves HOLY....
Well, we are different, but we figured that out years ago. Thanks for watching.
The ending was creepier than the cave.
Extremely remote area!
i found your channel a week back probably and at first watched for the sheer feeling of claustrophobia. I thought to myself id never want to do anything like this but its becoming more and more fun to watch these videos and dare i say am becoming more interested in doing some caving. maybe with a professional haha.
There are caves waiting for you. These caving guides are quite elusive, however.
Amazing formations! Spectacular! The lava stuff isn’t in caves where I live.
Yeah we all have to accept the caves in the areas we live. We don't have a lot of limestone.
@@CalvinHikes what area do you all exploring in?
Washington, Oregon, California, and Idaho...so far. There are caves pretty much everywhere
How do you breath downthere
It will be so stressful
Caves breathe to some degree. Dust and bat guano can be an issue we have to mask against.
Id love to try caving, as long as i can stand up and walk
You’re videos make me want to do this so bad, but I’d need someone to show me, and also get in better shape lol
We are gym rats for the “stay in shape” part. It’s a demanding sport.
How is it that these cave passages always somehow leave enough space for people to crawl through?
I mean what if the explorers are in deep and the passageway just tapers and closes up? What will they do.. start slithering their bodies backwards through the narrow gaps??
Exactly. We plan the explorations quite well, and are prepared for any situation. That backpack has everything needed to get “back”.
Tbh I don’t know if I’d be scared or not until I was in there wedging my self in between rocks, but learning about John Jones in nutty putty, I sure as hell wouldn’t do that unless I was with you or someone who’s done it 1000 times 😂 especially your more claustrophobic vids. Also new subscriber 😁 you’re very fun to watch and listen too
Thanks much. We have a weird sense of what is fun, but it’s very uncrowded underground.

Cavers: "We're going in boys!"
That's how we feel about you guys going into these caves lol. I love your videos though.
And then...”let’s see how far this tunnel takes us.” It’s addictive
Did you filter it to people won’t go there and disturb those formations?
Yes. Well, I filter it so other people who know about the cave think it's protected. The fact is, the filter isn't necessary, these caves are very far away from society and no one will ever find it.
New subscriber here!!
You guys rock!⛰😃
Welcome to the underground

@@billsanders9387 Amen Brother!🙏
How can you sleep at night not knowing whats beyond that “forest”? You could smash some formations on the right side and continue till the end of the cave. What if there is....?????
The what if is what always drives us forward. I'm not saying we won't go back but we would need to be careful. I think I can spiderman my way over those formations but my caving partners on this trip couldnt.
I would love to go spelunking with you guys

Im 6'1 215lb how much weight would I have to lose to go caving like this?
I'd say you're about the same size as the guy I went caving with in this video.
@@CalvinHikes DANG, so you're saying I have no excuses.
That frothy light colored lava is pumice, or some variety of it. THat isn’t the usual vesicular basalt you’re in. Was it glassy? The formations may be that way because of their viscosity and temperature. It also appears as if there was strong wind flow which blew it into those weird and fragile formations. Or water was in there at some time. Do you know why it’s that way?
Can I asked why you used that weird filter in and out of the cave? And was that a real deleting in that cave? It was pretty perfect.
Sometimes we are given cave locations under the stipulation that we will not directly show the entrances in our videos.
So essentially we are not allowed to show the cave entrance. Or a bunch of people will get their jimmies rustled.
Some times I wonder why I watch these lol 😂 like why am I here at this video
Hey Caveman, have you ever considered cave diving?
9:45 pm. Time for my nightly panic attack.
We do our best for you.
What if your flashlights run out and youre in complete darkness? Also you guys are insane!!
We have enough backup lights to stay a week. We enjoy our insanity. Thanks for watching
Awesome
You seem a whole lot more sane in ur older videos like 2 years ago
Love the comment. Our willingness to challenge ourselves grows.
Gotta say this one didn't look that bad. The cave is wide, so I wouldn't feel like I'm stuck. It doesn't look easy, but not nearly as bad as some other videos. You and Brian callen the comedian resemble each other.
Yeah this cave was not as intense as many of the stuff that we do. Which was fine by me. We don't try to fake it some caves just are beautiful like this without too much problems.
Loved it
You should make spelunking gear that helps you slide Btw You’re awesome
We know the life span of our cave clothes. Once and done for much of it. The other gear does a few caves. These are very rough. Thanks for watching
Is this near the 3 sister volcanos in New Mexico?
No it isn't but the landscape is very similar. I mean it's in the US and on the West side so it's close as far as the whole Earth is concerned.
What will u do if u see a snake?
Probably eat it. Depends on how hungry I am I guess
Why didn't the toilet paper make it out of the cave? It got stuck in a crack.
Thanks dad
Have you ever seen the movies The Descent and The Descent 2? Highly recommend :)
Part of the training of good cavers.
these videos are so interesting to me! I would love to see a video of tips/starters on how to begin a hobby like this, so oddly peaceful.
We are working on a video for someone wanting to get started. There are caves...finding them is the biggest challenge.
You and mr beast and mou sargi are my fave UA-camrs
That's good company. We have been on a Mr Beast video. One of his Mr Beast reacts.
@@CalvinHikes woah congratulations
How many coats would you say you guys go through a year
Clothes last about one good cave crawl. We shred them and head to thrift stores for more. Our skin recovers in a few days.
Are you fine there bro? Almost two weeks, you don't upload a new video.
Caving is much more fun than making videos. Sorry. Thanks for watching
Well we come from a crack and most men spend their life trying to go back in a tight crack ! 😎 07:19 Makes me point !
Eye never splunked sober or legally ...Oatmeal and eye would like to try!!!
We never drink. Caving is our only vice!
Just one question, or maybe two. Is it possible for the cave to collapse at any moment? I don’t mean the whole cave. Just like a part of it.
And is it something you think of when you are exploring caves?
Valid questions. Partial collapse is not likely, in most caves. When unstable rock is encountered, we take utmost care to support weak areas. Beyond that common sense, act we cave without fear..
@@billsanders9387 ah alright, great videos! Keep up the good content and stay safe! 👍🏼
Do you guys really get oxygen in such deep holes ??? It's crazy!
Good question. Yes, most caves have a unique air flow. Our electronic gear will let us know if the air is unsafe. Many of these caves have never been explored.
Have you guys ever encountered ghost or anything weird in those caves??????
No we're not that kind of cavers.
Ok legit question. Assuming you guys found essentially the only path in and out through which you could barely squeeze through. Let’s say you’re in there and some piece of large rock’s time has come to detached and fall, blocking your exit path. Are you pretty much done? I don’t think an army of engineers would be able to dig into that cavern without crushing you in the process. That’s if you can even radio out for help. This is nuts.
The question is valid, but the odds are almost impossible. When we are underground, the local caving community knows where and when. At the end of the day, we connect.
Do you guys do more than just these lava flows? Not gonna lie. It gets boring after awhile
With any luck, you'll get bored enough to go outside and do something besides watch videos of other people in boring lava flows.
I am 6'6" and 275. Would I be a good caveman?
There are many caves you would find accessible.
How long do I need to train to become a caver like you guys?
Conditioning of body and mind is essential. Start now and grow with your opportunities.
Tape the light to the camera?
If getting the correct lighting was only that easy.
I hope you find a big diamond chunk or biggg GOld nuggets so that you could open a caving school for students from whole world and come train under you help them fight with claustrophobia.
Interesting idea. Our graduation rate may be higher than our MIA rate.
Feels like they gonna be the next nutty putty....
We live to cave. Live and cave ...we keep those words together. Thanks for watching
Would you have done Nutty Putty Cave if it was still accessible?
Sure and I would have done the whole thing upside down just for fun. The danger of caves like that isn't the cave so much as it is that it's open to the public so you get a lot of people that don't necessarily know what they are doing really pushing their own limits too far, too often. Still I think that John Jones tragedy is a bit of an anomaly. And the closing of the cave was unfortunate.
I don't know why I'm watching this, but I'm, so that's a good start lol
Keep watching. And thanks much
Have you found any weird things in caves?
Other than cavers being a bit weird? The list of unique discoveries is long. Nothing other-worldly however. Sometimes colors deep in caves are unbelievable.
