I've only been spelunking a handful of times. At Red Rocks Amphitheatre before the park rangers really started cracking down and up clear creek canyon in Golden, Colorado. Recently learned the Fault Caves in Golden are very unique as they were not formed by lava, water or wind. Regardless, those caves terrified me. Love your videos. Keep it up
The red rocks is a beautiful place! Lots of cool caves in Colorado. We have some nice fault caves here as well. One of our upcoming videos is Jacob and I in a fault cave. scary!
Whats interesting to me about the process in finding the caves is it involves many different outdoor activities such as hiking, rock climbing, traveling. While searching for caves, one is engaged in outdoor activities that most people do as their primary activity. But a caver, does it as a secondary activity. But I imagine yall enjoy all of it. Cavers just love all forms of adventure. You must. In order to like going into small tight spaces.
That's what we love too. Caving is like treasure hunting. We have to hunt and hike for the cave and then once we find the cave it's more hiking... but a different kind.
You'll have to come caving down here in New Zealand, there's some absolutely amazing formations such as pure white soda straws! I'm sure you'd have a great time (:
Yes that would be amazing. We plan on doing plenty of traveling. We did find a pure white soda straw in the back of a cave recently. That's our next video coming up.

I’ve burned through so much of your content ever since finding it. I’m absolutely enamored by what you and your son do. The sheer levels of adventure alone are enough to make my heart pound, but coupled with the thrill of seeing such alien worlds first hand, I really can’t comprehend it fully from the couch. It’s almost as if you are seeing earths secrets, and paying the cost needed to do so. I’m just so floored and I felt compelled to comment because I see so many terrible comments here and there (yay, internet) and you deserve to be acknowledged with straight admiration. I am a bit of an adventure myself, and I am feeling a pull to try caving. Of course, only with a guide, and only after I spent considerable time teaching myself basics. My last parting thought is this - I am amazed at how bonded you and your son must be after having gone through so many of these caves. It’s a level of intimacy and partnership that I’m betting most men don’t get to experience with their dads. I legit commend you as a dad, your son will forever be your best friend. Warm regards, from Minnesota.

We did a lot of this to take our own minds off politics. Though our state is still the most locked down in the US. Everyone still must wear masks in all locations. Anyway, we get out in the brush to clear our heads. Glad you are able to clear your head as well. Thanks for all your support!

There's a lava tube segment of about 25 feet at Mt. st. Helens. It is part of the park with a ladder and you can crawl down about 15 feet, crawl through a lava tube about 3.5 feet tall for 25 feet, then emerge. My son desperately wanted to do it. We did, he loved it but that was the most terrifying claustrophobic event ever. I can't imagine this

Hey guys, great vid. Looked like you had fun. But always make sure that you shout "Rock!" if you see one fall, most mountain climbers and hikers know this but some forget to actually call out. Even if you're sure you're the only one on the mountain at the time, it saves lives sometimes.
@@CalvinHikes I enjoy exploring quite a bit but find my financial situation keeps me from being able to travel far or into more exciting places for now.
I SO appreciate the quality of your videos. You are head and shoulders above any of the other cavers. You get a big gold star from me. Thanks so much for all your hard work and effort. It really pays off.
Thank you so much for the kind words! The pictures and video are more important to me as a hobby than the caving. Great shout out to Mr.Ballen too! He has a great channel as well. And as much as I enjoy being claustrophobic and watching these videos I also learn so much from them. Lots of info along with a racing heart and excitement! You guys are courageous and work through your fear and it's such a human thing to do. We all live through you cause most of us wouldn't do this. We are unable to break through our own fears and look ourselves in the eyes and face our true selves. Face our own inadequacies and faults. We would rather just keep trudging through life unhappy and unfulfilled. Most of us would be better off feeling some fear and facing our fragility. To see that we really are just little tiny life forms scurrying around on a fleck of dust in a cosmos that is literally bigger than we can fit into our heads and if you waste this life not pushing the boundaries then can you say you truly lived? If we had to contemplate THAT on a daily basis we would go insane. But you guys truly are amazing and the winds of history will sing your names for all to hear and love. Thank you for this.
Do you realize how special you are? Some of the things you have seen, more people have seen the planet from space than have seen some of what you have seen! You guys are the absolute best.

Glad you made it over here. This is where all the fun happens!
One of our upcoming videos is Jacob and I in a fault cave. scary!
Incredible. Thanks for sharing this. Absolutely beautiful.
Thank you for watching.
You guys are amazing, blessings always to your many adventures!!!!
Thanks much. We love those blessings. Right back atcha!
That one of the coolest caves I've seen. Thanks guys
Thank you! Yeah this is really neat. Greatly because, it's unvisited. That's why it's still white inside. Nobody's touched it.
You guys are just incredible. Thank you for sharing what you do with us!!
You are certainly welcome and thank you.
You broaden my horizon with these breath taking adventures. Thank you
I would be having a panic attack as soon as I had to duck at the entrance.
And that is how you address the panic and fear. It has to be reigned in, and can be.
Jacob looks older and older everyday! Caving is terrifying to me, so I’m glad you guys do it for me.
That’s how aging works so
@@angelface101ful ye it’s so random 😂
How old is he
@@angelface101ful its a term of endearment, hes growing into an adult we all know how aging works, you should invest in looking how useful your shitty sarcasm is and how far thats gonna get ya.
puberty hit him like a truck
The stress and anxiety i feel watching this wanting to grab your hand to pull you through. Stay safe out there.
Great comment!!
Glad to see you are getting more views and likes you deserve! Remember when I first found your channel I watched for 7 hours and loved it. Well over a year ago! You and Jacob now have a big audience! Many thanks from UK viewer! takes my mind off politics and everything going on in the UK right now! Guess when I say UK for me I mean England, least restricted place in UK right now!
We did a lot of this to take our own minds off politics. Though our state is still the most locked down in the US. Everyone still must wear masks in all locations.
Anyway, we get out in the brush to clear our heads. Glad you are able to clear your head as well. Thanks for all your support!
@@CalvinHikes Thanks for reply! I like caves but don't think I could do this myself!! Merry Christmas to you all
Also an England viewer here, literally found their channel two days ago nick but completely agree with you, a Christmas miracle and I would love to see this one day
Love you guys. Love your work. You’re helping me to more comfortable with my claustrophobia. I doubt I’ll ever fully deal with it, but this helps 👍
I can't imagine this
That's a fun area. If you wander around that area... you may discover more than you could ever imagine.
@@CalvinHikes mountain devils!
I’m claustrophobic but I really can’t stop watching your videos man.. I love the fact you educate people as you go and you also let them know this is not for a regular person off the street to try to do it without proper protocol and protection.. great job and keep caving Calvin and family 💯 💪🏼 ❤️
Thank you so much!
@@CalvinHikes your more then welcome 🙏🏼
Like I've said in a previous comment I couldn't do what y'all are doing but I enjoy seeing all the pretty formations and thank y'all for sharing this with me and so many more people
Brave Father. I admire your faith in your Boy. I hope to have this faith in my boys when they're older. Thank ya'll for your beautiful work.
Uncle/nephew. Jacob is a very good caver, and mature beyond his years. Thanks for watching
I kept thinking to myself “why the hell do they put themselves through this” Then I watched this video and when you entered that world it really opened my eyes. Great video!
Thank you!
The more of your videos I watch, the more addicted I become. Love this content! Thanks for sharing your adventures!
You are welcome and thank you
Wow, this is just incredible
I’ve been binge watching your videos for the past few hours like a new season of my favorite netflix show just came out. You & Jacob are so fascinating. Discovery or NatGeo needs to sign a deal with you two for a TV show ASAP. I just know the rankings would be through the roof,
Thank you! Very kind.
I want somebody to sign us to a TV deal just so they can come out and we can watch them quit.
Thank you for these films. I appreciate the time taken to share the different parts of the journey. Its a chance for me to see these kinds of amazing places. And I appreciate the skills and knowledge when you explain different challenges for you two. Wonderful work.
Thank you and You are certainly welcome. This is a little bit of a mess of a video it was constructed over about a 7 month period. But what a cave!
@@CalvinHikes I just hope you keep making these films.
The fact that hes doing this while holding a camera
Making the videos is much harder than the caving!
this is unreal, amazing content
I think what I like most about your channel is your very comprehensive graphics for body positioning and the like, it actually gives a good idea on what's happening
Cool. We're going to continue to work to bring good graphics. It's very time consuming and I don't really know how to do it or have a good program but I want people to be able to tell what's going on.
6:30 so we're stacking phobias I see. Claustrophobia with fear of falling as well? Heck, lets throw in some spiders and snakes to make it really fun.
Add a bear and you’ve covered the bases.
Add accidentally finding balrogs to your list. 14:05
the last video I saw of them, they opened up to a brand new cave, squeezed down and spiders were falling and crawling on them
@@billsanders9387 look after minute 18.....they had a bear in it
this got recommended, decided to give it a shot as caving makes me anxious, but there is something calm and relaxing in your persona that lets me relax while watching yall cave. instant sub.
Thank you!
I like to think the primary thing we are attemptng to demonstrate is calmness. The caving is incidental.
@@CalvinHikes this one was like nutty putty cave
Idk why but watching you guys do what you do gives me more courage to push myself in life in general and make a bad day seem like not such a bad day especially on those tight squeezes
Perfect!
This scenery looks amazing ❤️ thank you i love this video. Just be careful when cave exploring dude 😄
You are welcome and thank you.
We make no promises to be careful!
Pretty incredible to witness the exploration of a cave that no one has been in before. Also, really appreciate the high quality camera work and narration
Thank you so much I appreciate that. Getting good clean video is much harder than the caving itself!
Mad respect to you guys! Incredible adventures, insane skills. This YT channel is top tier.
Thank you
Hey guys, great vid. Looked like you had fun.
But always make sure that you shout "Rock!" if you see one fall, most mountain climbers and hikers know this but some forget to actually call out.
Even if you're sure you're the only one on the mountain at the time, it saves lives sometimes.
We yell it as we enter a cave. Once and done. 🤪
Thank you for exploring, and even more so for sharing it with us. Exploration is by far one of the most interesting and wonderful things humans enjoy.
You are welcome and I agree. It is not in everyone to go and explore and discover new things. I don't know why not.
@@CalvinHikes I enjoy exploring quite a bit but find my financial situation keeps me from being able to travel far or into more exciting places for now.
I SO appreciate the quality of your videos. You are head and shoulders above any of the other cavers. You can get a real feeling of the surroundings as opposed to other cavers who maybe show just a cavers head, or a pair of feet and lots of grunts and groans with no descriptions. You get a big gold star from me. Thanks so much for all your hard work and effort. It really pays off.
Thank you so much for the kind words! The pictures and video are more important to me as a hobby than the caving. The caving presents tremendous challenges to videography which I find to be quite satisfying.
There are people that do good caving and there are people that make good videos but there are very few that are able to do both at the same time.
Best video yet the bear pics were crazy.
Always stay safe fellows.
Hey Calvin _Hey Jacob !! I'm Mike, been watching your videos for a long while now and man Jacob has really gotten big and he's came a really long way - Great job to the both of you as always.. If you guys get up here to the Smoky Mountains around Gatlinburg, TN., Please let me know. Even if y'all get to Western North Carolina close to the TN Border, let me know. There are vast cave systems here in this location(s).
Keep up the good work guys - would love to meet you both and maybe go on a guest cave dive. Well, good luck y'all and hope to hear back from ya !
Ya'll do got a lot of caves over there. Big ones too! We'll get out that way sometime.
I came across your videos last night!, think I was up till about 2am watching them, lol I woke up on the sofa this morning!! I could never do what you guys do, I don't think I'm claustrophobic, but thinking of some of these tight spaces underground is insanely scary! but fascinating to watch you guys navigate your way through!! Absolutely love these videos and can't wait to see more content!!
Thank you so much. Therea a second Channel if you want to stay up all night again another night. ; )
there is nothing like caving i allways want to see what around the next corner but damn u squeeze into some tight spots
And we get to see around that corner. It’s funny...we think alike.
always a good day when Calvin uploads. Keep up the great content
Amazing climbing. Beautiful opening. Glad you made it out with no problem. Stay . See ya
It's great to see some climbing content, thanks as always for your uploads.
We do it quite often, but the added gear makes photography very difficult
That was amazing to watch , unmatched courage runs in the family genes . I just wonder how you would climb out of those tight passages if someone broke an arm or a leg way down there .
Thank you so much!
We don't do anything that we couldn't get out of with broken legs or arms. By default that's the rule.
Yall are awesome. When I first saw your videos just a few days ago, I thought "there's no way I would do this" but just over the last 2 days I feel this urge to want to explore caves. Not the narrow ones tho because I have claustrophobia bad.
I just want to say I suffer from mild case of claustrophia. Watching these videos have been wonderful. Thanks, Keep publishing
We can advance your case of claustrophobia. 🤪
This is on another level, ( pardon the pun ).
It's really up there with National Geographic production quality.
I hope someone reaches out to you Calvin.
Thank you! We are just out here havin a good time!
Thank you for this.
what a gorgeous cave! I was scared for you the entire time but then the formations showed up and I went “ooooh.”
Perfect. Not enough people appreciate the beautiful formations! There's often a great payoff for our squeeze and hike labor.
This is some nutty putty vibes right here! Well done.
Most of his videos are.
Just randomly stumbled across your channel and this is top tier content. The cinematography and narration is phenomenal.
Kind words, and welcome to the world we love...bottom side view.
Do you realize how special you are? Some of the things you have seen, more people have seen the planet from space than have seen some of what you have seen! You guys are the absolute best.
Thank you!
love it! love the narration, love the camera work, love the realism! keep it up! you’re a great leader caveman, jacob is a great sidekick!
My heart is pounding just watching this. I don't know how you do it but my hats off to you.
Great exercise for your heart, bro. You’re welcome.
the commentary is always so good i feel like i’m watching discovery lmao
Thank you so much.
Calvin is probably the best caver I have ever seen this man is a legend in my book 📖 thanks again 4 sharing your videos 📹
These videos are extremely inspiring, keep it all up, thank you for doing for what seems like the impossible to most. Very comforting content.
Thank you so much for all the kind words
This man is literally sliding down a crack in the ground. How the hell would you get up.
Very slowly. Things the body is not designed to do.
That cave is crazy, it looks like they’re underwater even though they’re not.
These caves are bizarre and very interesting
Like many others, as it is the main feature of such contents, I have been ceaselessly watching, and feeling memserized by, your content ever since I stumbled upon your channel yesterday.
The content is extremely inspirational and has motivated me, as someone who is on the verge of being pathologically claustrophobic, to actually think of doing it and start doing what you guys are doing, as a beginner though.
So, thank you.
Wish you two and all your loved ones health and happiness and everlastingly blood-pumping passion for adventure.
Great comment. Caving does take a toll on mind and body, but we prefer it to cities and freeways. Good luck on your caving adventure.
I always get anxiety watching these, but I still love to watch.
Thinking like a caver now
I keep imagining these guys having to come back after hours of descending in a tight cave.
Yes leaving is very tiring. Gotta leave something left in the tank for the return trip!
As a planner, the return trip is always on my radar. 😬
Love you guys and you work. Such courage!!
just looking at this squeezing makes my heart aching and pounding at the same time - never ever I could do something like this.
The bear calmed us down.
My anxiety level went through the roof by just watching these guys on those tight areas. Can anyone relate?
Oh yeah I was coming here to say that. I'm freakin out and wondering how I'd ever get out. The nutty putty caves are anxiety inducting too.
I'm late to the party, but wow, you guys have a great time yet providing knowledge to us who don't want to venture where you go. Also you're a great role model for Jacob, keep it up boys!
We give latecomers the same fun entertainment. Thanks for watching
