Since i first started looking up videos of people doing repairs on the internet i can say you guys at 1A Auto have done a great job. Show all the parts that matter, cut out the unimportant stuff/fast forward stuff. everytime i've looked up a video, making sure i do it right, all the info i need is there. glad to have you guys. learned more watching videos here than mechanics school.
You are a great technician and a good teacher. Being a millwright for 40 years and maintained all my vehicules, here in Quebec, is it so important to put anti-seize on bolt underneath vehicule. Salt and water just love bare steel ! Good job !
It would have been helpful to show the looseness of the old ball joint and how the new one is much tighter. Also, what led to suspect these needed to be replaced; noise, tire wear ?
Shouldn’t the bushing nuts and bolts be torqued to spec once the vehicle is on the ground? I’m getting conflicting information, some places say to only torque the bushing bolts once the vehicle is on the ground vs what was done in the video. Appreciate the help!
Yes you can, just did it today. seems like the original upper ball joint does NOT have a locking ring. (still check incase yours has been replaced) So you just press it out like normal. there is not much room to get press in though. so i took a long pry by and pushed it down and held it with my leg while i used my hands to use the press. The new upper ball joint does come with a lock ring, king nut, codder key, and grease zerk. So if you are not comfortable replacing the upper control arm and getting the alignment right again. just replace the $40 dollar ball joint instead.
Hi I know this isn't the topic but I need some help badly. 2015 ram 1500 4x4 passenger side removing cv stub axle. Is there a trick to remove this. I removed the cv axle no problem but this stub axle I'm having trouble. Thanks in advance
+@jersonmancebo7453 You would want to change the control arms in your vehicle with the same style as the OE as there could be fit or functionality issues.
+Andrew Denine You should be able to replace just the ball joint without needing to change out the whole arm. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any further questions.
+Andrew Denine Thanks for watching! The bearing setup for this vehicle is a complete hub and bearing assembly, so you will have to replace the whole thing.
Thanks that's what I figured I guess I'll dish out 400 for 2 of them thanks a lot. It's a great help to be able to ask someone who knows what there doing. I'm sure I'll have more questions in the future 👍👍
Tips for putting on tires if your not in a rush or floor isnt dirty you can lower car a bit sit down and put it between your legs and like wedge it up on your thighs.
+Fragout Design Studios This procedure might be different for your application. We do not currently have a how-to video for this particular year, make and model. Thank you for asking! 1AAuto.com
+thatOneguy42807 Thanks for watching! The proper torque for the the ball joint is 40 ft-lb, then add an additional 90 degree turn. Yes you will also want to get a front end alignment after performing this repair! 1aauto.com
@@1AAuto my pleasure, same procedure for my 2003 ram 1500 with a v6 and 2 wheel drive? They want a fortune to do it. This video makes me feel I can do it if the procedure is the same. Your guy is a cool, polished pro. Impressive individual.

And what is the foot pounds for the upper nut on the arm? and the axle nut. break caliper? upper arms 130fp upper ball nut 40 fp plus 90 degrees lower ball joint 38 fp plus 90 degrees tie rod 45 fp caliper 130 fp axle nut 185 fp lugs 130 to 135 fp. is this correct?

Great video. Easy to understand for the backyard mechanic.
Very very very well put together and articulated video!!!! ..... keep doing an AMAZING job my brother!💪🏼

Len, is there a torque spec for the nut that holds the ball joint to the knuckle ? Thx
I love this channel!!! And most of all, your parts store!!!
“We’re gonna blast this nut in”. My wife loves when I tell her that.
Is it best and easier to replace the control arms when the bushings start to go out on 2012 Dodge ram 1500
can the ball joints be replaced on the upper control arms of this truck without replacing a frames?
No. Whole upper control has to be replaced.

torque on top ball joint 40fp + 90 degrees or 70fp, the former from the service manual, the latter from ram forum.
You mean "ft lbs" !?
How’s the quality of rubber ? Where they made ? Will the last or am i going to have to do this twice as my original mopar parts ?

How do you know when and which control arm needs replacement ?
Starts making noises 👌
It hard to tell you will more likely experience a vibration like an unbalanced tire.
Useful and informative video thanks for sharing. 👍

Hey does it matter my truck has a allumintim control arm currently and I purchased a steel one does it matter I’m only changing driver side ??
+@jersonmancebo7453 You would want to change the control arms in your vehicle with the same style as the OE as there could be fit or functionality issues.
What wouLd be the torque for the bottom bolt of the control arm?
Cam the upper ball joint be removed and press in a new one or do I have to replace the whole upper control arm on my 2015 1500

@@1AAuto thanks so much for the reply
@@1AAuto I have one more question for you can I press in a new wheel bearing in my 2015 1500 instead of buying the whole hub assembly. It's 4x4 5.7

Is the layout of the control arms and wheel pretty much the same on the 2005 Dodge Ram 1500?
does an alignment need to be done after this? and what's the torque on the ball joint?
+thatOneguy42807 Thanks for watching! The proper torque for the the ball joint is 40 ft-lb, then add an additional 90 degree turn. Yes you will also want to get a front end alignment after performing this repair! 1aauto.com
Do it after driving it around 200 to 400 miles because it will settle into itself first. If you do it immediately it will come out of whack.
Never done this job but do you grease the bushings?

Did dodge nuts and bolt switch to METRIC and I didn’t hear about it??
thanks good man
Is their a reason to replace the control arm? With it being metal isn't it just the bushings that need to be replaced?
They have to be pressed in. Usually aren’t available or too much work for the regular person.
There’s also a ball joint to consider.
These are unserviceable you can replace with a control arm with a pressed in bearing instead so you don’t have to replace control arm next time
so Lug nuts are 130? or 135? foot pounds. the other vid has them at 135. And what is the foot pounds for the upper nut on the arm? and the axle nut. break caliper?
upper arms 130fp
upper ball nut 40 fp plus 90 degrees
lower ball joint 38 fp plus 90 degrees
tie rod 45 fp
caliper 130 fp
axle nut 185 fp
lugs 130 to 135 fp.
is this correct?
What is the torque specs ?
What are the torque specs for the side nuts and the lower one?
40 ft lbs for ball joint and 130 lbs for the outer nuts.
tanks good video nice job

Thank you
I hate to be that guy... but don't those tires have sensor in them? Letting them tires slam down on the ground like that might not be a good idea?
Do you guys make any custom one for leveled / lifted same model ?
+Alessandro Terracciano We do not make any custom parts at this time.
What aftermarket upper control arms will fit 2019 Ram 1500 Classic 2wd with 6 in Lift ? I can’t find any 🤷🏼♂️

This guy's been hurt a lot in life. Great video but please, will someone embrace this man and tell him everything's going to be okay?!
those wheel lug nuts were not torqued to 130 ftlb came off way to easy

@@1AAuto.... great informative videos.
Why do y’all always have the vehicle on the ground when loosening the lug nuts thats unsafe
Cause the tire spins when it's jacked up.... Duh I'm a girl and know this 😂
You didn’t pay attention. He simply broke them loose THEN raised the vehicle.
didnt see u torque the ball joint
About to install two new A-arms. Great video. I am wondering what the torque spec is for the ball joint.
joe bush same, I kept going back to it
Does this require an alignment after replacing the upper control arm on the Ram? Thanks
