Is it possible for yall to write all this down step by step
Probably the best how-to video I've ever seen. No loud noises or shaky camera action, just to-the-point and step-by-step. Awesome.
+Steve Preston Thanks for watching. We carry the replacement ball joints shown in this video on our website, Here's a link to them www.1aauto.com/dodge-ram-1500-truck-ball-joint/i/1asfk00260?UA-cam&GtbkMaMUig&UA-cam&CTA%20Comment&ATony
Yeah man your totally right.
That was probably one of the simplest, best photographic, and easiest repair vids ever! Great job!
Show us how to do this on a rusty Dodge
yeah my 74 D100 seemed like the spindle and control arm grew together....prefer the puller which got them apart....and i couldnt use the old "smack the spindle" trick to release the ball joint.
haha, yeah
ive seen 2 or 3 videos from you guys so far concerning my 03 ram 1500 5.7l and i just have to say your how to videos are hands down the best ive seen so far. they are so detailed in their clearity and explanation with plenty of light to show you where and what you need to do. definately 5 star diy videos. thank you sooooo much!
Was able to change out ball joints because of this video; and because of the free tutorial bought my parts from 1A Auto - fast delivery!
forgot to mention I own a 2006 Dodge Ram 1500

Your guy's Videos is the reason I buy your products. Straight to the point, no other bs.
It’s been a very long time since I’ve replaced these and needed a refresher. This video was great. Thanks.
+southmcwow Thanks for checking us out! 1aau.to/m/Shop-1AAuto-c
Doing this tomorrow. Saved me time searching for torque specs.
Very thorough and clean repair. You made it look very easy.I would know whoever you're buying your tires or getting your tires balanced from is not using torque sticks or a torque wrench.which is not much for problem for many Americans until they break down on the side of the road with a flat.
I was quoted $1650 for my upper and lower ball joints today. I literally laughed in the ladies face. I will be doing the job myself now. Thank you for saving me $1300.
+Nate Devilin Thanks for checking us out. Shop for high quality auto parts on 1AAuto.com:

Best instructional video I've ever used, list of tools & parts in the beginning is awesome, especially doing work in my driveway, basement, driveway, shed, basement, driveway, shed!!! You get the picture, But perfect speed of instructions, high quality video, and tools needed explained along the way, I can go on & on, Mine is an 05 1500 and pretty much the same on parts & tools, why doesn't Dodge install grease (zerk) fittings at factory, maybe that's why their known for front ends wearing out sooner then expected??!!!!?? Again, THANKS GUYS 👍🇺🇸
+Matty 2X Thanks for checking us out. Have a great day! 1aauto.com
+1A Auto Parts how different is this procedure on a 2004 ram 1500
Thank you 1A auto you guys are best!!! I also love the fact you guys work on Monte Carlos
Thanks for checking us out. 1aauto.com +Smokology 420
Either way your guys videos are the best I did a water pump and you guys showed me everything thank you for the videos and the heater I bought from you guys everything works
Great video. Helped me to my lowers and save $600. I got my parts from 1A just like in the video.
Excellent, Excellent Video..... Thank you so much for taking the time to video this.
I imagine you also sell the upper ball joints too
+Joe Z Thanks for watching. Hope this video makes life a little easier for our viewers. We carry the ball joints shown in this video on our website. +1A Auto Parts The ball joints in the video have a grease fitting. The ones on the link don't.
+Joe Z They may not have grease fittings on them. Thank you for asking. 1aauto.com
I just changed my lowers today using this video Fantastic. Only video ive ever followed that was 100% as seen. Great Job
+paul aaronson Thanks for checking us out. 1aauto.com
How long did it take? Just curious. Were you doing it on your back or do you have a lift? Thanks - gotta do mine.
Good video, Its great if you have a lift in my case I do not only a floor jack Just replaced and tried your way on video no results kept binding. So I took cv axle out and all went well did this on my 05 dodge ram 1500 4x4.
Awesome videos - thank you for posting.
Your videos are THE BEST. Y’all have helped me do so many jobs on my 2005 Dodge Ram 1500. Quick question, what brand ball joint press is that you used?
+Jim Muncie You can buy one from Harbor Freight, or possibly from your local auto parts store. We carry the replacement ball joints shown in this video on our website, here's a link to them. www.1aauto.com/dodge-ram-1500-truck-ball-joint/i/1asfk00260?UA-cam&CTA+Comment&GtbkMaMUig
Very well explained.😀
Just wondering what ball joint press and installer kit is that
Your how to videos are the best! Thank you,
Thanks for the video. Gotta replace mine. Hate the squeaking.
The lowers on my 04 1500 4x4 are the weird riveted type. If I get those out, will I be able to use replacement ball joints with a snap ring? Thanks In advance
would this process be the same for a 2005 Dodge Durango? i have a badly worn out squeaking ball joint and want to fix it myself
Maybe
lol the one link i actually needed was the ball joint press and its like the 1 link thats not there.. will any ball joint press kit work? what am i looking for in one.... for an 08 ram 1500
I like these videos the over all others for the torque ratings alone!
been whacking away at my knuckle for the better part of a day. top ball joint wont release from the knuckle. it was replaced earlier this year so it makes no sense. any tips for getting it to come out what am i doing wrong....
What brand ball joint installer kit did you use? Reason I ask is because the kit I rented does not have cups large enough to sit in the On the control arm without being in the way of the ball joint I am pushing through.
+KhyoteJinkens Thanks for the comment, but unfortunately we do not have that information available. 1aauto.com
Cool. I appreciate the reply. I went to Harbor Frieght and found an installer kit specifically stating it was for Dodge and Ford trucks.
Do you compress the coil spring to change lower ball joint? 2003 ram 1500 2wd
Call 1A auto & get a real breaker bar. Just saying, but after watching this I’m going to change all my ball joints upper & lower this weekend. Thanks for the video
I bought the front end kit from 1A auto , ball joints , end links , tie rod ends, etc
No grease fittings on any of the parts?
I have a 2.5 inch level on the front, are there some after market parts for the sway bar, steering linkage and ball joints? Or the whlole uppe control arm?
+Kenneth Hedden This is not something we would carry as our parts are designed for vehicles that are at OE specifications.
I have a 2WD 2009 Ram 1500 that needs ball joints. I have been told that you have to buy the entire control arm and that you can not press the old ball joints out. Is that correct or do you sell just the ball joint for the 09?
Question: Can I use the same torque numbers for my 2003 ram 1500 5.9L gas bro? Thx 🙏🏻
Very well done 👍 thanks for sharing the details.
+David Crowson Thanks for checking us out!
On the torque for ball joints, why did you add a 90 degree turn, after the 40 lbs torque.?
On your other ball joint video for dodge ram it was 38 and 40 lbs and thats all. thanks
I was glad I found this video, then I couldn't get the axle to come out of the hub. As another comment states, don't hit the axle with a hammer without some kind of protection on the threads. It took me an hour to get the nut back on after I gave up trying to get the axle to break loose.
+aspiringcarguy Thanks for the feedback!
ANy info on how to diagnose if ball joint is bad/needed or not? Or any other videos on "diagnosing" things in general? For my 07 Ram 1500, Thanks!
+Michael Borne We're always cycling through common cars. We'll add this repair to our list! 1AAuto.com
If the ball joint doesn’t have a snap ring but instead a cap, how is that done?
Do u put the grease in before u put the ball joint on or when it's on
+jack T Yes we did. Forgot to show it in the video. Here's a link to the ball joints shown in this video on our website. Hope this helps you out goo.gl/SHJzsb
How do you keep from pinching / cutting the boot on installation? Remove the boot before installation?
Same question here.
And we are still waiting.
What's the normal price for installation just Labor Ive order mine from y'all already
GREAT video ! thanks....
+Wendy Young Thanks for watching. We carry the replacement ball joints shown in this video on our website. Here's a link to them www.1aauto.com/dodge-ram-1500-truck-ball-joint/i/1asfk00260?UA-cam&GtbkMaMUig&UA-cam&CTA%20Comment&
What should i do if the tie rod stud spines with the nut
How did you press in the ball joint from the top and not the bottom since you press out the ball joint from the top?
+Anthony Willmore Reinstalling the ball joint starts at 9:01. Thanks for watching.
very helpful
can this job be done without removing the axle nut?
Dobrý den
Puller for ball joints?
Hey guys I know you dont talk about inner tie rods in this video but whats the torque specs for the INNER TIE RODS on this same vehicle?? 2006 dodge ram 1500 2wd ??
+Carlos Saavedra At this time we do not have this specification but suggest that you reach out to your dealership for further assistance.
Is it tha same procedure on a 2012 or there some differences
+Sol West If it's a 4WD it may be a similar procedure. Hope this helps you out. 1aauto.com
What if that lower ball joint does not release by tapping/hitting the spindle ?
Hey just a question for anyone who may know but my truck doesn’t have that center bolt should I be worried on both sides you can see straight through and it’s a 2002 Dodge Ram 1500 4.7
Your truck must not be 4x4.
Center bolt/nut is for the front wheel drive axle spindle. If your truck is a rear 2 wheel drive, you obviously won’t have the front wheel drive spindle for 4 wheel drive. I know you’ve figured that out already, just posting for others that might be wondering.
Thank you very much very good video
Is it the same procedure on a 05 Dodge 1500 or not
+Kelly Braner IT should be similar on your 2005 Dodge Ram 1500! Here is a link to the parts shown in this video if you or any of our other viewers need them for your repair: www.1aauto.com/dodge-ram-1500-truck-ball-joint/i/1asfk00260?UA-cam&CTA+Comment&GtbkMaMUig
Is there any difference between a 1500 and a 2500 in replacing the ball joints?
+acenmbr1 Thank you for your question. For 2500 there are 2 styles of ball joints bolt in for rear-wheel drive and press in for 4 wheel drive. The installation would differ based on the application.
@@1AAuto Thanks for the response.
Remove the grease fitting before pressing it out not halfway through.
The power of editing how do you go from a brand new hub assembly wheel bearing to an old rusted out one.
Travis McPherson seems kinda fishy lol
I have the AYD ball joint Number Parts K7394 upper and low k7397 in my third generation Dodge Ram 2500 truck in 2006 and without problems for more than 150,000 MILES, let's wait how they continue to work. the price only $ 20 each ,. You can see it on my UA-cam channel, I leave you the LINK: ua-cam.com/video/8d0CvS3hlOM/v-deo.html There is no denying the quality of these ball joints EMF, Dynatrac, Carli y Moog, but among the most economical and durable from experience
Good catch. Maybe reusing redundant footage from an old video?
My ball joints have rivets how do you get these off?
these are front wheel drive?
Do you need a 4x4 adapter this this ??
Your video says this is the same for 02-08 however they are very different! Now I’m worried that you guys sold me the wrong parts
Same here. I have a 2007 Ram 1500 and nothing is the same at all.
Mine is a 2003 Dodge Ram and even though the 2007 and 2008 Dodge Rams are considered 3rd generation , there are some differences beginning in 2006 I believe. I think that the manufacturer was different starting in 2006 possibly going from Daimsler Chrysler to Chrysler LLC.
@@linnypsimpson5111 struts in front from 06 and up
@@MidnightPolaris800 cool. Thanks for the help. I thought there were some differences but could not remember what they were.
Excellent
Doing my 07 ram 4x4 lower ball joint doesn't appear to have a snap ring, normal???
+robert gaudette Thank you for checking us out. This is not normal, as the lower ball joints are held in place using this snap ring. 1aauto.com
I have an 02 4wd also no snap ring. Pretty sure this is not the right truck. Mine also does not have coil springs up front. Scares me cause I just ordered my parts from them
5:50- that young man is bashing on cast aluminum with a ball peen hammer with NO eye protection. I was just using this method to separate a tie rod end and knocked off a piece of shrapnel that could easily have caused a major injury. I hope your insurance is all paid up.
I thought he was wearing a thong at 14:12 but I think its just a tattoo LOL 😂
Great video. But my ram (07) 1500 has no snap ring on the bottom ball joint. ???
What about when the lower ball joint woubt come out
no lock ring on my 2007 so I am not sure this method will work.
Is there any difference for a 2010 Dodge Ram 1500?
+Jared Dean This part does fit the 2WD Dodge Ram 1500
1A Auto Parts I have a 4wd
+Jared Dean We currently do not have an auto repair video that covers the 4WD repair. We do carry the lower ball joints for it. Thanks you for asking 1aauto.com
wouldn't you just do upper lower and tie rod ends while you were in there? They are all old I'm sure. Nice work though, you made it look easy.
What about getting an alignment done after all that?
+Nate Willinger We always recommend an alignment after steering or suspension parts are replaced.
Does this work on a 2014 ram 1500?
+Anthony Perez We don't have a how-to video for your vehicle right now, but the basic steps in this video should be enough to do this task. Buy this part for your vehicle on 1AAuto.com: 1aau.to/m/Shop-1AAuto-c
I call BS on the loving bonks, lol jk 1A. Thanks for your help. You saved me $$$
how much would labour be?
can you send me link of ball joint press?
+Abather Almajedi Thank you for watching, but we do not offer that part. 1aauto.com
This is how to remove an aftermarket ball joint. Not a stock ball joint.
What about upper ball joints?
+williamsmith1610 We're always cycling through common cars. We'll add this repair to our list! 1AAuto.com
Thank you for sharing this video 😁
you make it seem so easy... o wait is on a lift..do it on the floor like most of us viewers actually work on the floor without a lift.
Good how to video but that looks to be an after market ball joint what about a factory one
You never greased the ball joint why?
Show a rwd drive version
Mine went in almost all the way. Then it got super tight n broke the joint
The description says 02'-08' for the years but the tutorial says 06'-08' which is it?
I'm driving my boss's ram right now. I went and reversed and all of a sudden the ball joint just gave out and now the lowers just hanging on the floor lol
The lower ball joint is only 38ft lbs. How. The upper joint is at 40
My lower ball joint has some sort of cover with four notches in it. Just footing the bill and taking it to a shop. SMH!
I got a 03 1500 ram squeaking
+themanof Thanks for watching! We recommend you inspect some of the front end components, such as sway bar links, bushings ball joints etc. If you need the parts detailed in this video please visit the link and you can purchase them: www.1aauto.com/dodge-ram-1500-truck-ball-joint/i/1asfk00260?UA-cam&CTA+Comment&GtbkMaMUig
The cringe when you smacked that axle without a nut on it i can already hear my boss saying never hit it without a nut again or you'll damage the threads
Center punch works well
they fail to tell you at the end to get your front end alignment done!!! good way to ruin your tires.
you don't need an alignment when replacing lower ball joints that's why they did not say to get it done
Wow don't you ever protect the threads?axle nut.tie rod end?Don't think you were taught properly. Also,no eye protection?
It definitely doesn't go in that easy
Put some grease on the threads bro
Been following y’all for a lot. This is the first video that’s been dead wrong.
My 5.7 2005 Dodge Ram 2500 does not fit this standard set.
I tried following this video to save the $1500 tire kingdom quoted me. Jacked the truck up, and used the tool set to get out the ball joint. Managed moving it before realizing the size wasn’t correct.
Now I have to pay someone to drive to my house, and do the work themselves.
A warning on the specialty tool would have been great.
One minute the hub looks new and the next minute look rusty . That's strange .
Didn’t work on 2002 dodge because they were welded in
Where are all the videos for `02 Ram 1500's ? Can you get JUST the UPPER ball joint for these? I find it very disturbing how much these vehicles change from year to year. I love to wrench, but now days when I do, I find I am cursing the engineers more now than ever. They are just trying to weed out working on your own vehicle, which is PURE BS if you ask me. I'm going to check out the video from Freddy Rob's 11 year old, Hell, I may learn something,... ya never know.
+Gary Kovach Thank you for checking us out. It appears through our research that the upper ball joints must be replaced with the control arm assembly, and not by itself. 1aauto.com www.1aauto.com/search?q=upper+ball+joint&year=2002&model=1463
