Not sure if people realize how important it is to be very thorough in explaining everything step by step. You made this easier for so many people who probably aren’t used to working on their own vehicle, thank you for such a awesome video with amazing instructions on getting the job done.
The best ram 5.7 spark plug tutorial on UA-cam thanks 1AAuto
Thank you for showing us how you got number six cylinder spark plugs out. You're the first one I've seen do that out of seven videos, much appreciated, thank you.
Man... this guy has helped me do 2 jobs on my RAM. He's very detailed. Funny asf too 🤣🤣🤣... Ad-Libs alot
As a long time tech, I found this video to be well done and thorough. People don't realize the little things that pop up needing think out of the box solutions on the fly.
What I don’t understand is why people don’t show how they got the rear clips off
Thank you for all your help. After I watch your videos I feel obligated to purchase any parts off of y’all’s website. Because your company actually takes the time to show you how to do it and do the job right
It would be alot easier to remove the 10 mm bolts, if I COULD FIND MY 10 MM
My neighbor probably has it
I learned a long time ago to buy a few cheap ones. You know you’re going to use and lose 10 mm’s.
Just weld a screwdriver to it. Much easier
Replaced my plugs 2012 5.7 Hemi today, took my time-prepared for the worst but was easier than I thought. Installed Iridium plugs, runs like a dream. I used 2 different magnetic spark plug sockets for different locations.
+Larry Weaverling Thanks for the feedback!
Len is the Mr Rogers for us car guys! Easy to follow clear instructions, no cussin’ good camera work.
We need more cussing!
This was a very helpful video for my 12 RAM HEMI. I will say the most challenging pair of plugs for me was the rear passenger side.So many hoses and cables in the way. Brake booster side was no problem other than the LONG reach.
Man your good at not swearing. I just did my spark plugs and there was a lot of cussing plus my truck is lifted so that made it a bit harder

Very good video. He makes it look fairly easy . My 2004 ram took over 3 hours with some bruised knuckles. It was worth the time. Thanks
Love this channel! My go to channel when I need to fix or replace something on my truck!!! Keep up the great work!
2009 Ram 1500 went relatively well. Thank god for the wiggle ratchet suggestion. Never would have completed the job without it. Great video.

Wow.. Extremely good video. Props to the mechanic speaking and turning the wrenches.
Dielectric grease or silicone grease actually resist electrical flow, its only there to seal out moisture and debris, not help the electrical conductivity. Nice video 👌
+Ryan Smith Thanks for checking us out! 1AAuto.com
Love this channel! Always learning something and great store to buy parts from! Please keep posting videos of the 2014 Ram 1500
I am NOT a super handy person at all. I do follow directions really well. This video was amazing. I was able to fix my cylinder 4 misfire perfectly. Lost a 10mm in the process but.. ehhhhhh 😂. Just wanted to say thank you for your attention to detail. Have a great day!
Just did mine yesterday(3-16-2024). This video taught me how to do it. 16 plugs is no joke and it was my first time ever doing it. I broke 2 red locking tabs on the coil connector and I used the slightest strength but it still broke. It still clicked and locked without the red tabs. Thank you for the video.
+@elroco4827 Thanks for checking us out! 1aau.to/m/Shop-1AAuto-c
Love the videos thank you glen did my whole front suspension off of your videos saved me a lot of money now doing plugs and coils
Awesome video, well done explaining the fine details, but also letting us know what size and type tools you need to get the job done.
Great video! I'm not new to changing spark plugs, just new to the Ram! Thanks. 🎉
been dreading this. Appreciate the walk-through Len
This video was great, thanks! It helped me tackle this daunting task in just over 2 hours. Having a universal joint socket and a few various extensions to go on a normal spark plug socket was definitely the key. Thankfully with my long arms I was able to get to the rear most plugs with a step stool and reaching under and over the brake booster.

V8 guys often mock the rice rockets, but this job takes five minutes and no dexterity on a typical inline-four cylinder FWD hatchback.
@@BoopSnoot changed my plugs on my lunch break and still had enough time to get food
It took me almost 6 hours to do
Great video! The presentation of the video gives off the adult version of Mr Rogers neighborhood. Time to subscribe
Great video. Most informative video I've seen yet on the subject.
Great video! I heard people say how hard the plugs were on the 5.7 hemi. Looks pretty easy. I will find out in the morning!
So how did it go?
@@conservativetexan2289 its a lot easier then it even looks on this video. After you do it one time it's like riding a bike you'll never forget it 👌
I started hardest first which is back, much easier. done myself, video very helpful thank you.
Remember when engines had a little tolerance for dirt? Yeah. Me, too. My first car was a 1969 Pontiac Le Mans. Nothing under the hood but engine, battery, and radiator. Tune ups were easy peasy. No canned air required.
Less tolerance means less reliability
It gets better: by 2026 the Gov has ordered all cars be be equipped with a "backdoor shutoff.
First time watching one of your videos, and my first thought was "This guy is really informative and descriptive. He gives quick and concise information on what he is doing."
Well done! LIke you said at 12:45, keep it as short as possible but still informative for the sake of the video.
+Atimar Thank you! We love empowering our customers and showing how to perform DIY auto repairs with our high-quality auto parts. 1AAuto.com
Excellent video, very well explained. SHould I be using copper grease on the threads of the spark plugs?
Great video. Really impressed with your attention to detail. Awesome job giving us all the information you could possibly think of. Greatly appreciated!
+Alex Eadie Thanks for checking us out! 1AAuto.com
Great video. Very informative and insightful. Great job. 👍
Thank you for the the video. I have a 09 Dodge Ram 1500 SLT 4.7L, what will be the correct replacement for all 16?
Good video, however the NGK website says that if your using an iridium plug in an aluminum head, with a gasket, then the Torque should be 18-22 ft pounds of torque.
True, doing mine soon thanks for the heads up
Pro tip: if spark plug gets stuck in engine, spray some penetrating oil down barrel and wait half an hour! Two of my plugs were stuck, sprayed the pen oil, waited and boom they came out finally lol. I started changing plugs at 8am, finished by 1:30 lol. Had a few delays but went well! Also I recommend laser iridium! Those plugs are amazing!
What did you gap them at?
@@sergjavier1582 They come pregapped and as long as they haven't been dropped, you just need to check and not gap anything. Gap should be marked on a sticker under the hood (.044 gap).
Very detailed video as it have to be. Great job. Thanks a lot👍
+Happy One Thanks for checking us out! 1AAuto.com
Helpful tip, leave the coil pack under the booster out before doing last 2 plugs, gives you a little more room.
That was an excellent video. You made it look easy even the two on the left rear of the engine.
Great job..with step by step..awesome job
Thank you from France !
I'm using the rubber socket in cold weather , and it comes off so use magnetic in cold weather if outside
After watching this ready to hit it boys. Great video, you guys can make vids to train mechanics

This should be something a young boy can do lol
Solid video, about to dive in to this project myself on a 12’ ram. Thanks for the knowledge!
How'd it go? I need to do mine too
Was it hard to get to like this? I have a 2012 ram also.
I got a 12 too. Already cleaned the throttle body. Trucks at 68k miles. Definitely time for a tune-up
Doing this on my '12 Ram now. Not as easy on the back ones.
Regarding dielectric grease; I use it to prevent spark leakage and spark tracking inside the plug boot. GM and Ford were bad about that, leaving a carbon track inside the boot causing misfire. No reason Dodge wouldn’t do the same, so use it. The terminal inside the boot will fit over plug , and the grease will not interfere .
I have a 2015 Dodge Ram hemi I’m planning to do mine tomorrow I will do it one by one like you did thanks I’m glad you mentioned the torque specs for the spark plug 13 ft pounds

Are the mopar spark plugs already Gap for the dodge truck i believe its .043
@@stephenmcgraw3610 the newer type are 15-18 ft pounds. Gap is .043-.044 for iridium I think they come pregapped at .044
Este fue el video que mas ayudo 👌

Well explained.. I like your videos.
I'm going to be trying to do this for the first time ever tomorrow. Do you ever have to test your coils for replacement when you're changing the plugs?
Easy. Thank you!
It does not matter what order the coils are put in. Coils are coils.
great videos please keep doing videos like these
+Oscar H Thanks for checking us out! 1AAuto.com
Do you think it’s important to use molar spark plugs? Thanks for the video. Was going to use a mechanic. Do most of the work on my truck myself so pretty safe to say I can do it on my own. Thanks again
Excellent. Thanks!
Thank you awesome video just did mine thanks to you.
I need help i cant seem to find the throttle positioning sensor on my 2012 dodge ram big horn I need to replace that but can't find where it is.
Please help
Your truck has two one is integral to the throttle body and the other the accelerator pedal
Thanks another great video
Wow great video thank you.
Thank you for an other great video. I have watched some of your other videos and they were great as well. I have a question regarding the reason I am thinking of changing my spark plugs. My truck has 131000 miles on it, I bought it used so I am not sure if the plugs have been changed or not. The truck feels like it has a misfire or what I would describe as a surging or a hesitation while I am driving almost like a subtle bucking. When I first start out from a spot light, it definitely bucks more noticeable but then goes into the more subtle bucking. I have no check engine light on and I have run it on a scanner with no DTC's. It feels like a misfire to me so I am thinking it could be the plugs or maybe the coils. Your thoughts? Is there a way to check the coil to see if maybe one has gone bad? It has been doing this for a while now and I am concerned it will cause damage. I'm not sure if this is the forum to as questions like this because I don't see any recent comments but I am hoping someone is monitoring your channel and can give me some help or direct me to the right spot. Thank you in advance.
Love you guys! You make that spark plug on the driver side rear look easy! Took me a hour! Lol

Thank you.
Install the plugs dry? or with a little antiseize?
Question. I have a 2012 Ram 4.7 and I hear you need 8 intake and 8 exhaust spark plugs. Two different types are required apparently. Is this correct?
I use a piece of hose and slide it over the back side of the new spark plug to snake it back in those tight spots, spin and pull hose out of the way… works good
Great & informative
Nice job
This took me 5 and a half hours to do
Good video.
This guys awsome !
Great job 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
Thanks brother
thank you sir
What sparkplugs is better for a 2010 dodge ram 5.7 hemi?
Is that anti seize you had in the filter box? Should that be used because the heads are aluminum?
Just curious at what mileage is recommended to replace your spark plugs? I read that factory recommendation for Ram 1500 is roughly 50,000km but that seems very low. Also, great video thanks for the help.
every 100k
im curious what is safe to lean on when you are inside the bay. im a big boy and im worried to brake something when im leaning on top of the engine parts
How often does this really need done if its running just fine now?
Damn, I remember when spark plugs used to be a fairly easy job
What's the recommended Gap for the hemi 2010
Never pull from the electrical wires, always pull from the plastic!!
You say to replace the spark plug if it doesn’t meet the gap. So, what you’re saying is that and entire set of 16 gapped at .035 versus .040-.044 should be returned. Even though they
are the exact same that we’re pulled out and called for by the manufacturer.
Thank you for not putting any type of anti-seize on the spark plugs. Notice that NO manufacturer uses it at the factory. Reason being, is that it will change the torque reading installation and increase the possibility of over-torquing. If the spark plug is over-torqued, the shell can stretch. If the metal shell stretches, the heat transfer from the ceramic firing end is reduced. When the firing end gets too hot, pre-ignition can occur. Pre-ignition is what put holes in pistons. Bad deal for sure. If someone puts too much anti-seize on, it can also melt and run down on the ceramic - which will cause a mis-fire (anti-seize is full of metal).
On torque of plugs you say 13 max 15 ftlb, what I have read is that is for 08 and older where 09 to 18 is 18.5 ftlb to 22.5 ftlb, am I mistaken?
No. Your correct. 13' model year and older with copper or platinum plugs is 13-15 ft pounds. 14' and up with NGK Iridium plugs is 18-22 ft pounds. But if the Iridium plug your using has a tapered end, instead of a metal gasket, only then your supposed to torque it down to 14-15 ft pounds.
Great video? Whats with the rainbow🌈 colors ? Just wondering
WOW, just got an estimate from Dodge to replace the spark plugs on my 2012 Ram 1500 Hemi. Well with no issues it was about $650.00, does it sound in the ball park.
Too much! Do it yourself.
I paid $950 at the Dealer, only because I have a Bumper to Bumper” warranty for the life of the vehicle or as long as I possess it. A 2014 Ram 1500 R/T 2wd ✌🏻
Hey great video, is there a specific pattern the spark plugs need to go in? Or are all the spark plugs the same and doesn't matter where they go?
All the plugs will be the exact same so you can do it in whatever order you want!
Spark plugs have no set orientation however the coils packs do so make sure you place each pack the same location that you removed it from
I didn’t see anti seize used on the spark plug threads. Is it not a necessity?
Is this the same procedure for 2011 5.7 as well or is it different?
xXDANIELXx same
Good video here ....Ram dealer mechanic told me to gap to 0.040 and use 15 lb/ft torque..use an old tooth brush to clean the dust off boots ..use a little dielectric grease inside boots..
+Ga Ro Thanks for checking us out!
I have a 2011 Ram 1500, and according to the owners manual on the Hemi motor's the plugs should be changed out every 30.000 miles, do you agree with this, I already swapped the plugs out at the first thirty thousand, the truck now has 62 thousand on the clock, what are your thoughts on this?
Joe Marco if you used copper plugs then yes, you should change them every 30k.
@@ElkinsEric Thank You,
Nice
I mean, Rams with the 5.7 have 16 spark plugs. At least these ones were easy to get too.
Stupid question, if I have a cylinder 8 misfire, how do I know which one is the 8th cylinder?
Just swapped my plugs. She is still a lil shaky but not AS shaky so my next course of action is to replace all the coil packs, then the exhaust manifold w/ busted bolts'. Which 1 should I do next to get rid of shake? Like when I turn it on I just want it to idle steady @ 900. TBH they sold it to me all rode out w/ 60k miles 2 prior owners before I got it.
For a 2017 ram 1500 what’s the recommended miles to replace them
+The Truth We'd suggest reading the service section of your owner's manual for the manufacturers suggested service intervals.
