@Virtual Sky Tate not my hypothesis, a core concept of quantum mechanics. First sentence from Wikipedia's "Wave-particle Duality" page: "Wave-particle duality is the concept in quantum mechanics that every particle or Quantum entity may be described either as a particle or a wave." It has a section devoted to the wave nature of large objects.

Often death is from deficiency, some thing missing that causes a living thing's foundation to form holes which will inevitably cause it to crumble, naturally life was shaped by the harsh, cyclic conditions of a world driven by disorder, but if all needs were fulfilled a living thing would then live forever.
In the end all starve, slowly with holes begetting holes faster than they can be fixed. To make a system that will not crumble, it requires indefinite self-improvement and the improvement of its surroundings.

I love this line a lot. The universe isn't what will remember us. It'll be us, ourselves, that'll carry those memories.
We'll all waste our time thinking of existential bullshit, wondering if we ever truly matter to the universe.
The truth is, we don't matter to the universe. We matter to each other. We matter to the people who love us, and those people matter to us because we love them, too.
We don't have to be part of some "grand scheme of things," because we're part of each other's lives. And sometimes, that's enough.

Roelofs was, until the end of 2016, an artist who regularly collaborated with other creative people. Following a collaboration with Exurb1a, a British youtuber, Roelofs was hospitalised in November 2016 for acute stress disorder, post traumatic stress disorder, depression and suicidal ideation. During her 7-month hospitalisation, Roelofs began speaking out against her former work partner who she stated used Reddit to smear her name. Roelofs said the UA-camr had assaulted and raped her in October 2016, had started threatening her between November-December 2016, and subsequently "blackmailed" her to leave the hospital to talk to him while she was drugged with prescribed medication, and that he raped her while she was unable to fight him. One of the prescribed medications she had been taking was Xanax, a benzodiazepine and well-known date rape drug. In February 2020, daily newspaper Algemeen Dagblad confirmed it had taken Roelofs 6 visits to three different police stations between 2016 and 2017 before a criminal complaint was taken. When Roelofs was discharged from hospital, she gave up her career as an international photographer to focus on her recovery, as well as mental health and anti-rape activism

This video made me realize that my beliefs that I was so confident about not even an hour ago are meaningless. I thought that I was satisfied with knowing that there's no reason for us to be here, and that's okay. But I realized that this whole time I was still looking for a meaning, and if I couldn't find one, I'd make one up. I think that deep down I believed that the meaning was to understand and know all, as has always been my goal. I never thought about how that belief is an insatiable one, one that can only lead to unhappiness, dissatisfaction, and even despair, just like if I had an insatiable lust for power like the kings and dictators of the past. I don't know what to think anymore. I understand why philosophers have always struggled with the question of the meaning of life now. I'm just rambling now, but I think this video really did change my life, or at least my outlook on it. I don't know anymore

    • @Coppermeshman
      @Coppermeshman Рік тому +7

Often people ask more questions than they even bother answering. I once heard conversations about the meaning of life, but each argument was self contradictory, and the counterarguments were no better, each didn't seem to get the point of each concept they referencing.
The Meaning of a concept, of a thing, would only make sense if it was self referencial, self evident,
as a hammer hit, a knife cuts, a bed to be Slept on,
In the end Life, all the forms it takes regardless seem to always direct to a goal.
      The act of continuing.
The meaning of life is to live,
How to live? Many forms take many techniques, all in attempt to improve one's ability to continue, because the things that don't hold of improve one's ability, don't exist anymore.

I like the message here about value. It is not the universe that brings us value. It is not our possessions that bring us value. It isn't even ourselves that bring us value. It's how we impact the lives of those around us that truly matters. One could create the best device ever, but if their fellow humans never use it it is entirely worthless. One could imagine the most inspiring story ever, but if it falls upon no ears it is uninspiring. But if you speak kindness to those around you, even only briefly, you've achieved more than most.

The end reminded me really strongly of Jung's idea of the collective unconscious. How every human resorts to the archetypes to find meaning: We'll be okay when we know everything: seekers(soul), when we live forever: leave a mark(body), when we cling to everyone(heart), when we structure everything(mind).
Jung talks about the surface archetypes and their shadows. The collective human struggle is to find meaning in the world. But the human embarks on this with an incomplete knowledge of their own self that is with a limited conscious. The first goal should be to find meaning from the shadows of their own psyche and to extract repressed experiences from the unconscious to the conscious. The last step is always to become more conscious and realise once humanness.

We shouldn't give up, but we shouldn't hurt ourselves thinking that we're lower than we are. When we measure ourselves by the future, we'll never be happy. We've got everything we could imagine. And maybe in the future, we'll have more.
Thanks. I've spent a lot of time over the last few months hoping that I'd get just another day, another day to reach for that rare future. But you've taught me, helped me realize that today, yesterday... They were that rare future. I have what I wanted so long ago. To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand exurb1a. The humour is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of epistemology and existentialism, most of the jokes will go over a typical viewer's head. There's also exurb1a's nihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into his characterisation- his personal philosophy draws heavily from Alber Camus's literature, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these jokes, to realise that they're not just funny- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike exurb1a truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the humour in exurb1a's existential catchphrase "Go Home," which itself is a cryptic reference to the Zeno of Citium's greatest work "Πολιτεία". I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as exurb1a's genius wit unfolds itself on their computer screens. What fools.. how I pity them. 😂
And yes, by the way, i DO have a exurb1a turtle tattoo. And no, you cannot see it. It's for the ladies' eyes only- and even then they have to demonstrate that they're within 5 IQ points of my own (preferably lower) beforehand. Nothin personnel kid 😎

Well written. I took the elements as being related to going through the five stages of grief, as though each item was the reward you come away that empowers you further once you get through that stage and conquer it. After denial you find truth, after anger you find control, after what-if-ing and wishing you find reality/emotional or literal sobriety, after depression you find resilience, and after acceptance you keep the memories.
