What an amazing video. Thank you for uploading! I believe that misery, like all other mental states regardless needs to exist. When the time comes for humanity to modify itself, a little bit of misery still has to remain. How can you know happiness without experiencing sadness? By the same token, how can you be content, without first experiencing misery? Our mental state would go fully whack without this kind of checks and balances
Sometimes, the only thing keeping me from ending it all is the possibility that if I stay alive long enough, I may one day exist in a future like this.
Me, 150 years old: You know, back in my day, many people committed suicide out of unending misery My genetically modified great-great-grandchildren: Ok boomer.
"Exurba was a prodder of existential dread, a man who lived month by month, stirring up the misery and wonder within his followers on the world wide web..." Imagine reading that in the future. I would cry.
Exurb1a, I know you’ll never read this. I’ve never met you, probably never will, and to be honest, I’m not even sure what your given name is. I’m sure I could find it with some judicious googling, but I kind of like the abstraction of you as a UA-camr rather than the concrete version of you as a person. Never meet your heroes as they say. That I’ll being said, I wanted to, no, I was compelled to write this. The end of this video, the swelling music, the sublime visuals, the cacophony of contrasting voice overs all culminating in the quiet but incredibly powerful sentence beginning with “misery WAS...” is one of the most powerful and moving things I’ve ever had the privilege to enjoy. I’ve been feeling like real shit lately. I’ve always been depressed, and I periodically go through more intense depressive episodes from time to time, but right now I’m in the midst of one of the worst mental shit storms I’ve yet had to endure. I feel like now that I have discovered the truth. That I have discovered life’s perfect equilibrium. And that equilibrium is pure unbridled misery. But your simple suggestion that one day a dictionary might include a passage that starts with “misery was...” not only gave me a vague hope for an unseen future generation, but a concrete hope for a near future that I may one day experience. I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. I am sitting here on my bed weeping uncontrollably, not just because of this hope, but on a more aesthetic level, I think of the possibility, not too remote, that I may have killed myself last night, which I was seriously considering doing. Had I done that, if nothing else, I would have never got to experience the near religious euphoria I felt when watching this video. Thank you so, so much.
sorry, I'm not Exurb1a, but I just wanted to say please don't kill/ hurt yourself. You're right, there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Just open your eyes and you will see all the good in the world, all the good in you.
Antivaxers WERE a group of morons who thought they could understand science but couldn't and their lack of understanding combined with their need to feel special caused the return of diseases which were previously almost eradicated. The movement died when the brainless cunts were rightly rounded up and forced to live in a colony in Antarctica. The colony was eventually wiped out by disease.
Antivaccine believers were a group of people based in a antivaccine idea that was based in total biases and no scientific propositions. Eventually, like flat earth believing people, they gradually diminished, thanks to the evolution, who took care of those who opted for no vaccines and were eventually isolated from the society, because of the risks they represented, or the human knowkedge of generations, who by achieving more knowledge, got better and greater scientific knowledge and abandoned old superstisions based on their shadows of fear, which they discovered, were nothing at all.

Viruses were. Its not one virus and weve had them around and knew about them for many decades, dont know why youd want to get rid of them, they are all fairly harmless and getting rid of them would require actions with negative economic consequences so, can we not?
@Brownskikuca Garlic Bread What does accuracy have to do with being "smart" and why the heck are you so agressive? But, yes, i will occasionaly know something about medicine better than a medical professional with much more than a full decade of medical expertise.Being in a field doesnt make you omniscient about it. There are conditions ive researched in great detail, from the most recent full studies on them to individual case studies from hospitals in india.
@Brownskikuca Garlic Bread What do medical professionals even have to do with this? Im talking to some randos on the Internet. I havent attacked anyone and no, im not "smarter" (whatever exactly you mean by that, thats a fairly unspecific term) than anymone, never said i am. As for intelligence though, ive been tested when i was in a psychological clinic. All i can say is that the IQ test they did only goes to 130 and its above that. But thats got nothing to do with intelligence, a medical professional isnt neccessarily intelligent. Hes just supposed to roughly know enough about medicine to send you to the expert thats able to help you for the most part. If im a cancer patient, ill for sure know more about cancer and my situation than a psychologist, if i suffer lifelong clinical depression ill sure know more about that than an oncologist. Like how arrogant are you to assume omniscience of anyone?
Let me start my critique by saying that no other singular channel on youtube occupies more slots in my favorites playlist than you, no other channel has made me experience such a vast and powerful array of emotions, and it’s wonderful. That being said, you really should have let the silence after you read the future definition of misery persist for about 10 seconds or so longer before you jumped into the book thing.
I'm thinking the exact same thing. I've been on UA-cam for longer than I should have been and in all these years I don't think I've ever come across a channel with videos this powerful. Coming from someone not particularly emotional at all
@@catnium Well I mean partly, however, channels such as these are also great as they teach younger people to expand their mind and delve deeper into certain topics. Of course don't take everything on the internet at face value, but it's interesting to watch, and you can always research afterwards. Glad you found it so funny though :D
I am in fucking awe at how good you were at tying together the ending of the video in a satisfying way. The way that the title doesn't really make sense in the beginning to when you get hit by the huge realisation at the end to the build up of that realisation. I had already watched this video before a while ago and knew what was going to happen, but that being the case I still started to fucking cry at the end. It was multiple minutes ago since I saw that but I'm still crying right now when writing this comment. It is absolutely insame how well you made that...
Such as how hunger was meant to remind you of your decrease in nutrition; depression, loneliness, was meant to remind you of your lack in social contact. Humans survived better in groups for quite some time, long enough for evolution to consider it worthy of genetic mutation. However, evolution isn't fast enough to keep up with our industrial evolutions and what not. Cellphones, social media, the internet were all meant to connect us with one another, but in a way, we've never been farther apart in humanity. Your brain craves social interaction with your tribe and punishes you for not doing so, evolution isn't perfect and it didn't consider the backsides of this. Start socializing, passive aggressive comments on youtube won't do you any good. Unplug, and in a way, reconnect.

Our mental state would go fully whack without this kind of checks and balances

isnt it exurbia?
Hey I’m from, like, 7 months in the future or something like that. 2020 still sucks but somehow even more than in February.
Hi, I'm 1 year ahead into the future. The world is currently a dumpster fire but I think we can manage for 50 more or so years :D

@Brownskikuca Garlic Bread
What do medical professionals even have to do with this?
Brownskikuca Garlic Bread just ignore him dude

"What the hell is the beneficial aspects [sic] of lifelong depression?!"
YAH EVOLUTION, EXPLAIN YOURSELF
Somehow it creates amazing writers and comedians ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@@jramseier A writer; yes. But a comedian? It's only little snippets of humour coated in a blanket of existensial crisis and eye-opening points of view. If you came here for little "Gucci Gucci"s here and there, well then you've come to the right place- but not the best.
