    Great job! 1.Good AR, 2. Ruger 10 22, 3. AR10 in 308, 4. Pump 12 Ga, 5. Not against the bolt but want it to exceed by far what the 308 can do. Minimum 300Mag or 7mmMag better would be 338. 50bmg has a lot going for it as a force multiplier against vehicles.

    I'd ditch the bolt gun for an AK mostly because if SHTF from outside forces, they will more than likely be armed with the same. Ammo, parts, and ultimately, extra firepower would be available. I agree on everything else.

    I am in an urban area. The longest distance engagement I might have is 200-300 yards at most. I am pretty confident with my AR's as my go to for SHTF.... I think the "go to" SHTF weapons is location dependent. If I lived in a rural area, yeah I might want something bigger with magnification of some type. I think considerations need to be taken if you plan to "bug out." I don't plan on bugging out, I have nowhere to go. AR is a pretty good combination of home protection/sentry gun and semi long distance engagements.

    • @hobbz4921

    • @jasonharrison25
      @jasonharrison25 8 місяців тому +15

      @@hobbz4921 the basic idea and original intent is not flawed at all. Bugging out is meant to be bugging out to a specific location that ideally would not be experiencing the same SHTF situation. But the term has been misconstrued to mean heading out into the woods to live off the land. But that is really bushcrafing and not bugging out.
      Bugging out also doesn't always mean to head to a remote cabin in the woods either. It could just be a family or friend in another city or state.

    • @DKOutdoorAdventures

    • @joshrandall3632
      @joshrandall3632 7 місяців тому +5

      Do yourself a favor and find a place to bug out. If it's a real SHTF scenario, urban areas will be extremely toxic and they'll get that way very fast.
      You're absolutely correct about the AR being a great general purpose rifle, and if you can't get out of town, it will serve you quite well. I would add some magnification though. A flip to the side 3x or 5x magnifier can be had on the cheap. Not really needed for shooting, but it really helps with target ID. Good luck to you.

    I agree with the ar-15/M16 because of its modularity. You can easily fix almost anything pretty easily. If even the barrel explodes and if you have or if you can find another complete upper, you're back in the game. You can use multiple calibers and a lot of them you can even use the same magazines. You can use uppers chambered in .22 lr, .223/5.56mm, .300 aac bo, .458 Socom, and even .410 shotgun uppers. They're easy to clean. If you and a few guys each had one standard AR-15 and many types of different calibered uppers and lots of ammo for each upper, you can potentially be a 2 to 5 man army.

    There are some really great light weight choices for 308’s, the newest being the ruger sfar 6.8-7.8lbs, my personal favorite the POF Revolution (short stroke gas piston, adjustable gas block, lots of technological improvements, the upper and rail are one piece, best part is that it’s the same length as an 16” ar15, and the same weight as the m4 I believe at 7.4lbs), 16-18” FAL’s, 16-18” m1a’s, key-tec rfb 8.1lbs, scar 17 7.9lbs, Cz bren 308 8.3lbs, galil ace 308 8.2lbs, I think there are quite a few but definitely the ruger and the pof make the best case for light weight battle rifle, there is still the ammo penalty, but maybe we can develop some light weight level 4 or 5 plates or make the ammo lighter.

      The Zpap also uses a 1.5mm receiver rather than 1, has a bulged trunion and a dimpled receiver. IMHBAO, those are by far the most important to have. That's what I have for my go-to set-up. For my handgun I have a .40 barrel and a .22LR conversion slide to give me more options. For my rifle I also have a .22LR conversion kit and I'm building a 7.62x39 upper for more options.
      Spend your money and time getting them set up appropriately before you buy more guns. Also, remember YOU are the most important part of the system, so develope your skill set, develope a strategy (plan) and work on your tactics.

    AK should definitely live on the top 5 list. I disagree with Kaya in that I do think it is amazingly simple. FAR simpler than an AR-15 to keep working. Only reason to discount the AK would be ammo availability when compared to the AR-15.
    My top 5 of guns I own? AR-15, AK-47, Marlin 30-30 (for the bars), TacSol .22 bolt action (for the squirrels), AR-10.

      Not just ammo availability. The price to play with an AR is however much you want to spend and you can snag an AR for far less or piece one together. You can take a AR out of a box and literally throw anything on it you want, accessory mounting of the AR is by far superior.

They also work close range and decently well far range. Other than that, 2-5 were spot on. Cheers!

    To not have a 7.62x39 weapon on your list is telling. Remember in a SHTF scenario, everyone becomes a scavenger. We will all be living off of the battlefield to some extent. 5.56/223 and 7.62x39 will be the most likely rounds available for scavenging. Sig Sauer MCX in the 7.62x39 would have been a good choice and to some extent replace a 308, not in the distance category, but having enough punch for hunting up to deer.
