Full barrel for more velocity, better ballistics, good for range and compact enough for CQB.

AK in 7.62 with magpul furniture, I have a cleaning rod, cleaning kit in the stock with spare rags, and a bottle of cleaner in the grip, plus a bayonet. It's got red dot with magnifier, and that can come off and provide me with irons at any time. Magazine should last the life of the rifle, but no harm in attaching another, so long as I'm not in prolonged firefights, it's no problem (and I don't live anywhere near anything mildly considered high population areas.)
That or scar 17s... gives me all of that and the takedown power.... or a 590A1 pump.... or a DDM4A1 RIII. Any of those could be a do-it-all, but none of them are necessarily great at everything.

LMT MRP 12.5” 5.56. LMT MWS 13.5” 308 and 20” 6.5CM barrels. If I had to choose one, the MWS. Very modular for every purpose, carrying an extra barrel is lighter than carrying a full upper. Can go as far as dropping the 13.5” 308 for a 14.5 6.5CM MRGG style build, a very capable 1000yd setup.

In SHTF things get muddy, if there is a team it‘ll be small, ammo is scarce and there is no medic waiting to drag you off and have you flown into a hospital in some base.
So, effective identification and engagement distance is king, plus whatever you are shooting at must not shoot back 😁. So I agree with Jason.

What concerns me is that in a shtf situation, 99% of all gun owners, UA-cam influencers, etc, are all talkin about buggin out and hidin in the hills. But if the government is sending tens of thousands of troops out to squash all resistance, who’s fightin back when everybody is fleeing? That’s exactly why all of the immigrants are comin here. For one, they gave up their guns, for two, they don’t have the courage to fight back anyways. Same with California. Everybody’s fleeing California so communism/socialism I spreading and taking more control of the state. Same with New York and the north eastern states. If everybody keeps fleeing rather than holding your ground, rallying up with like minded people, and fighting back, then the government will win. I hear people talkin about “you so called patriots think you can fight against drones and jets”….well, it would be a good strategy for let’s say 1,000 patriots to rally up and raid the local Air Force base, and sabotage their aircraft and communications. In the middle of the night, 1,000 patriots raid the armory and sabotage armored vehicles and personnel carriers. That’s how I think rather than bugging out and hidin in the mountains somewhere, but that’s just me.

As a civilian I’m assuming I’m alone in a full on shtf or with very limited backup. So I’d probably go with a 308 piston ar since it’s the largest most reasonable common round you can find that can defeat most armor. I’d also go with a 18”-20” barrel since I’m aiming to end fights before people know I’m their so I’m staying atleast 600 yards away with a thermal scope. I don’t have a medic so I consider getting in a close range fight to be the end. I’d also go with a nearly silent suppressor for 308 like the huxwrx flow 762 ti. So…
    SWORD MK-17 308 (dirt brown)
    HUXWRX 762 flow ti
    Suppressor cover (dirt brown)
    Trijicon Reaper 60
    Holosun 508t Green (offset sight)
    Arisaka offset mount
    PRS Altas bipod
    Streamlight ProTac 2.0
    Holosun Lg117 green laser
    Magpul Sling (brown)
    Magpul vertical grip (green)
    Magpul rail covers (green)
    Magpul iron sights (foldable)

Wyndham Weaponry RMCS-4 (+1) my modular rifle system fires 7.62x39, 300 blackout, .223/556 NATO, 9mm, and .22 LR. With a barrel, bolt carrier, and mag well change in the same time it takes to load a 30 round magazine you can swap out the caliber you are firing. The kit is a little heavier, though, as it has three barrels, three mag wells, and three bolt carriers in the hard-shell, but the versatility of it makes it the ultimate SHTF rifle.

I can loot and most likely find ammo I can shoot, 9mm and 223 are everywhere in this country. I mostly leave mine configured in 7.62x39 since I like that punch...similar to 300 black out and 30-30 Winchester.

To me, the SHTF preference is all in how you frame it, and I think you can frame it generally in one of two ways:
    1) Practicality in terms of commonality/availability
    2) Practicality in terms of performance & application versatility
If I'm going with #1, then I'm going with a 5.56 rifle with a roughly 14" barrel range. There's no question that 5.56/.223 is the 9mm of rifle ammo.
If I'm going with #2, then I'm going with an 8" to 9" .300 Blackout rifle. It's just SO versatile. Whether that's shooting various ~110-150gr supersonics that can take down medium game in a hunt or large, heavy 220gr subsonics, it's performance is stellar, AND all out of a short barrel, AND using the same 5.56 magazines.

300 blackout suppressed is my go to. Can use it for home defense, hunting and if need be take suppressor of and use reg ammo for further distance situations ( up to 100 yards). My second would be the 308. It’s second choice because of weight and noise. It does however beat the 300 blackout in distance situations.

Don't get me wrong, I love my AR's and AK's but I would probably would want a bullpup for SHTF like Jason. It's compact, lower recoil, and full powder burn which basically is a shorter gun compared with AR's and AK's but still has high velocity of if paired with a 20 inch barrel. Gonna go with the Springfield Hellion.
