Some examples include: 1) data for mounts from collectors editions were only included if they occurred after they became standalone purchases on the cash shop 2) same as above for the 6/12 month sub mounts plus offsetting data where those deals were active and heavily advertised 3) data for any mount from a bundle was omitted if the other bundle items were acquired by the account on the same day (the strongest indicator that a bundle was purchased) 4) data for any mount with a special log in promo was omitted if the mount was acquired during the promo’s runtime. There are several more filters I applied as well, these are just a few to give you an idea. The figures you see are solely confirmed (to the data’s best ability) sales. If you have acquired any of these mounts by alternative means it is highly likely that your case has been omitted from the data. Please keep in mind though that this is just an estimate. While I feel confident it’s the best it can be with the data we have access to, it has its limitations. At the end of the day only blizzard has the true numbers and it is very unlikely that they will ever release them. So I made this video in lieu of this with the idea that a best effort estimate backed with the data we do have is better than nothing at all. Hope this clears things up and thanks for watching!

The long boi is definitely another success for Activision-Blizzard-Microsoft but the majority of people will never buy it because of the absurd price. I personally have 0 issues with cosmetics costing real money but no freaking way i'm going to pay 80 euros for it. I'd rather spend that money on buying a whole new game.
It’s very generic models for the most part. No one would have bought any if they wouldn’t have been made available in the game. It also doesn’t require very unique and rare skills to create them.

Are you taking into consideration the half off sales Blizz occasionally does? Because I have almost all of them and have never paid full price for any of them (unless it was only available for a limited time) Also, many come free if you buy a six-month or twelve-month subscription.
Regional sales are very difficult to track with the data points we have access to. Bundles like the 6/12 month sub offers are easier to take into account and while I can considerably limit their impact it’s still just a for fun estimate at the end of the day. Only blizzard has the true numbers
Keep in mind, Blizzard also did sales pack, where they sold a group of mounts for a very discounted rate. That how I've gotten most of my store mounts, I always looking when the sales come around.
Well yeah it's a bit same than Collector's Edition mounts are kind of differently valued than "normal" store mounts, if you take the price from expansion price (before some of those older ones were added to the store separately). Obviously actual number Blizzard made money out of these is lower, but hard to say how much lower personally I would say 20-50% lower depending on the mount and how much other ways there has been ways to obtain them.
I have a soft spot for the Grizzly Hills bear, though maybe execution wasn't perfect. I never bought it due to the practicality of ground mounts nowadays, but man does that look fantastic for a dwarf hunter.
I also got the Ensorcelled Everwyrm from the promotion buy the Dragonflight collector edition plus the Shadowlands collector edition for one price and the Ensorcelled had already been on the store.

Back then, your maximum flying speed depended on the mount and only a few of them could actually fly at maximum available speed. Celestial steed was one of them and did not require raiding, high PVP raiding or incredible luck (TLPD). Also this was long before the collections tabs and account-wide mounts. This one was mailed to all your characters.
Many of them were sub rewards, I got a ton of these just for my subscription and or expansion. I just got the Siesbarg mount in game and it's better than anything from the store. It's all based on your personal opinion.
but how will the game invest in other contents if they have no money? the only issue is the money Blizzard made went into the pockets of greedy corp goblins
that Armoured Bloodwing let me live all my troll batrider dreams. We didn't get a bat for a looooong time after that one. When that came out in I think Draenor we really didn't get another bat until end of BfA/Beginning of Shadowlands. It's still a beautiful mount

I presume this is looking at accounts and not characters? You mentioned the CE, but theres also promotions (such as 6/12 month sub mounts that came bundled for "free", not the store cost), a couple of the store mounts were on the Trading Post, theres frequent sales and discounted store bundles, even the two alabaster mounts were bundled on the store for one cost (later split on the TP). These can't be hand-waved away (even for an estimate), but unfortunately I can't imagine this level of data is available to us. Regardless, even if it was inflated 30%, the numbers are just insane!

I don't know if you tried to account for this, but at the same time that collector's edition mounts moved to the store, they sold the Collector's edition upgrades for half price. So for $10-$20 US you got all the Collector's edition goodies. Often cheaper than the mount half price sale. The mounts, the pets, etc. Including 30 days of game time for Epic edition. I read your disclaimer and it didn't look like you could account for that. Great fun video none the less. Good job.
You can't really separate them so hard to check from public sources to find out who got mount via promotion or store (unless there's achievement to track)

Lets say if the avg mount was 28,796,238, 0.0001% of that value is 2,879.62$. Lets just say they paid one person a week to design this mount.... the cost of production is literally nothing and the gains are out of this world

sadly not, even the numbers I were able to find were unreliable - my guess is I won't have data I feel confident speaking on until say Feb of 2025 (assuming the longboi actually exits the shop in early jan)
These numbers about how much they made are likely way off. First off some of these especially the ones closer to the top were given out for 6 month & or 12 month subscription bonuses. Some of these showed up in the Traders Post for example the Celestial Steed has showed up at least once on there. The Swift Windsteed was a reward for Amazon Prime members at one time so that one is likely as high as it is just from that alone. Then with the collector edition ones really impossible to separate from those the bought a collectors edition / epic edition or for some of those they offered deluxe edition upgrades to get the digital bonuses. Then the last one is you do not know when they purchased and for how much, most if not all those mounts have been put on sale or in group discount packages at least once.

Why would it? The only reason to buy the bear is for cosmetic or collection purposes. For $20 you can buy a token and get near 300K gold. Use some of that gold to buy the Grand Expedition Yak that has the same vendors and you will still have more than half your gold left over.

I don’t know exactly how much have sold since I’m limited by what data points are publicly available from the blizzard API. While that’s a good estimate based on what we as players and fans have access to, only blizzard have the true numbers

While it certainly helps there’s no full proof way to be sure, since blizzard is the only one who has the real numbers
For real man, and this isn't even world wide data. Imagine if I was able to get ahold of China's numbers (which typically moves much more volume in terms of the cash shop). Wouldn't be surprised if it pushed the $2b mark.

And very few people were buying it because the animation was different from cloud serpents and made people sick. I had it for free from some promo and never used it because of that. So they changed it after many years of complaints.
Yea it’s pretty nuts man, that’s why I added all those extra filters cause I couldn’t believe the numbers that came back. But even with the filters it’s still wild
Huge grain of salt. A lot of these mounts were either free with a 6 months sub (the Chinese New Year celebration mounts like the pig, rabbit, tiger, ox, serpent), collectors editions and mount bundles. I got all the ones you qualified as underwhelming from mounts bundles. I'm also a sucker, I buy all that shit the moment they go live.
I think we would get a wow 2 remade in unreal engine 5 with full VR support along with playable murlocs and tuskarr before they stopped making store mounts

I have a bunch of these mounts because I got the collectors editions. I wonder how they separate people like me who have them from that vs people who bought them. Either way absurd revenue source.
Blizzard has internal data tools that track player behavior from start to finish on certain processes to figure out exactly this. They're called 'funnels' and basically allow them to see how a player was able to acquire a given item, whether that was in game, converting their gold into tokens for bnet balance and then buying it, redeeming it via a special promo, etc.
For any mount that was included in a 6/12 month sub promotion I only included the data after that mount became a standalone item on the cash shop. My logic there was that most people who got it through those means were very likely to redeem it shortly after their purchase, ie, long before the mount hit the cash shop as a standalone item. While that definitely helped reduce the impact of those promotions on the data it isn't a perfect solution. Sadly with this sort of thing we have to get creative on how to create filters to apply to the data in lieu of blizzard withholding the true numbers.
@ in those instances your best bet is to try and look for signals that the mount was purchased with a bundle. Internally WoW has tools to track this, but outside of that there are some creative ways to try an mimic those funnels. For example looking to see if other items in a 6 month sub bundle were acquired on the same date would be a reasonably strong tell that it was acquired via the sub deal as opposed to a standalone purchase. Again not perfect but can help reduce the impact.

Please do the longboi too i want to know exactly how many m0r0ns are in the game right now. Dropping that amount for a bunch of "conveniant" puxels is so crazy and sad to me, not that they bought it but the price in some countrys that's what they earn for the whole month and there are people defending this crap as if its not the case they get hund upside down on stripped like a chicken in China of all their feathers. You said "nothing like the Dread Wake", that is 100% wrong. The Dread Wake is a copy of the 2017 Blizzcon Stormwind Skychaser mount. All they did was make is pirate themed.
I see what you’re saying but I feel like they’re pretty different. Like the zeppelin one the sky chaser is sort of a mini version of a factions air transport which didn’t hit as hard imo. The dread wake was a literal Flying Dutchman ship so I felt like it was in a league of its own

Token is bought for $20 and token bought for gold converts to $15. In US anyway. If you bought for tokens, Blizzard made MORE on the mount than if you bought outright for real money.

sadly not, even the numbers I were able to find were unreliable - my guess is I won't have data I feel confident speaking on until say Feb of 2025 (assuming the longboi actually exits the shop in early jan)
These numbers about how much they made are likely way off.
First off some of these especially the ones closer to the top were given out for 6 month & or 12 month subscription bonuses.
Some of these showed up in the Traders Post for example the Celestial Steed has showed up at least once on there.
The Swift Windsteed was a reward for Amazon Prime members at one time so that one is likely as high as it is just from that alone.
Then with the collector edition ones really impossible to separate from those the bought a collectors edition / epic edition or for some of those they offered deluxe edition upgrades to get the digital bonuses.
Then the last one is you do not know when they purchased and for how much, most if not all those mounts have been put on sale or in group discount packages at least once.

Given how new the bear is and that it comes ugh a store/repair and a transmit ability. I would expect it to move up this list rapidly
Why would it? The only reason to buy the bear is for cosmetic or collection purposes. For $20 you can buy a token and get near 300K gold. Use some of that gold to buy the Grand Expedition Yak that has the same vendors and you will still have more than half your gold left over.

I doubt the calculation for Ensorcelled Everwyrm is correct? I have it and never bought any mounts, must have been included in an expansion somewhere.
For mounts that were included in a bundle, promo, etc, I took extra measures to filter data out from those sources. Honestly for mounts like the worm that a lot of people got outside of the shop it was a bit easier since those indicators were much more clear in the data. It’s important to note that this is still an estimate though. Only blizzard has the true numbers

I don’t know exactly how much have sold since I’m limited by what data points are publicly available from the blizzard API. While that’s a good estimate based on what we as players and fans have access to, only blizzard have the true numbers

There is a decent number of mounts on this list that have extra circumstances (like the alabaster mounts) that I had to try and make extra filters for to limit their impact. While it certainly helps there’s no full proof way to be sure, since blizzard is the only one who has the real numbers

For real man, and this isn't even world wide data. Imagine if I was able to get ahold of China's numbers (which typically moves much more volume in terms of the cash shop). Wouldn't be surprised if it pushed the $2b mark.

I can’t say it’s factually correct because only blizzard has the real numbers but I did account for log in rewards. Check out the pinned comment for a more detailed explanation of how I accounted for stuff like this

Heart of the Aspects also didn't used to have legs and feet....just wings like the cloud serpents
And very few people were buying it because the animation was different from cloud serpents and made people sick. I had it for free from some promo and never used it because of that. So they changed it after many years of complaints.

Huge grain of salt. A lot of these mounts were either free with a 6 months sub (the Chinese New Year celebration mounts like the pig, rabbit, tiger, ox, serpent), collectors editions and mount bundles. I got all the ones you qualified as underwhelming from mounts bundles.
I'm also a sucker, I buy all that shit the moment they go live.

I have a bunch of these mounts because I got the collectors editions. I wonder how they separate people like me who have them from that vs people who bought them. Either way absurd revenue source.
Blizzard has internal data tools that track player behavior from start to finish on certain processes to figure out exactly this. They're called 'funnels' and basically allow them to see how a player was able to acquire a given item, whether that was in game, converting their gold into tokens for bnet balance and then buying it, redeeming it via a special promo, etc.
If Blizzard is earning this much, then why in the world do we still have to pay $15 a month?!

For any mount that was included in a 6/12 month sub promotion I only included the data after that mount became a standalone item on the cash shop. My logic there was that most people who got it through those means were very likely to redeem it shortly after their purchase, ie, long before the mount hit the cash shop as a standalone item. While that definitely helped reduce the impact of those promotions on the data it isn't a perfect solution. Sadly with this sort of thing we have to get creative on how to create filters to apply to the data in lieu of blizzard withholding the true numbers.

@ in those instances your best bet is to try and look for signals that the mount was purchased with a bundle. Internally WoW has tools to track this, but outside of that there are some creative ways to try an mimic those funnels. For example looking to see if other items in a 6 month sub bundle were acquired on the same date would be a reasonably strong tell that it was acquired via the sub deal as opposed to a standalone purchase. Again not perfect but can help reduce the impact.

I excluded that one from this list because it hasn't made it to the cash shop yet as a standalone item. For any mount that was included in a bundle or special promo (like the CE mounts) I only took the data after those mounts were made available as a standalone purchase as a way of minimizing the impact those things had on how well a mount actually sold.

Dropping that amount for a bunch of "conveniant" puxels is so crazy and sad to me, not that they bought it but the price in some countrys that's what they earn for the whole month and there are people defending this crap as if its not the case they get hund upside down on stripped like a chicken in China of all their feathers. Yes i bought mounts too, bust 90% are either reduced bundle or on sale i would never drop 90$ for this.

You said "nothing like the Dread Wake", that is 100% wrong. The Dread Wake is a copy of the 2017 Blizzcon Stormwind Skychaser mount. All they did was make is pirate themed.
I see what you’re saying but I feel like they’re pretty different. Like the zeppelin one the sky chaser is sort of a mini version of a factions air transport which didn’t hit as hard imo. The dread wake was a literal Flying Dutchman ship so I felt like it was in a league of its own

I own 80% of these mount and bought them all with wow tokens gold to euro, didn't spend a single euro. I don't know how many ppl do that but I'm sure there are a few, so maybe decrease it by 5-7%

Token is bought for $20 and token bought for gold converts to $15. In US anyway. If you bought for tokens, Blizzard made MORE on the mount than if you bought outright for real money.
