If some day, I return to the world of Azeroth (with membership), I need your advice: Should I continue with the same character, try the classic experience first, or go down some weird unexplained but optimal third option? Let me know, I might return in a few weeks time!
for a new player i would definitely recommand you to go with the latest expansion there is for a couple of reasons. First WoW isn't a movie or netflix series you need to check from episode 1 to be able to enjoy, most players nowadays don't know 100% of the lore as there is simply too much, and newer expansion have more quality of life and ease of gaming for new players, and if story is very important to you, watching a 1hour youtube video on what happened in azeroth will do the job. Second of all, the older expansions have less players which makes it less immersive and more difficult as some content needs several people to be doable or to be enjoyed to its fullest, so go where people are ! make friends ! and with those friends you can then goof around as much as you want. Lastly many people would tell you thatte game starts when you max your character, and it's not completely true but also not false, you'll have a much easier time doing everything you want if you go get the latest expansion equipments and then use that to power through any content that will make you happy like mounts farm, story, raids or anything. The most important thing is to enjoy the game at your pace no matter which content you're doing.
If you buy a subscription, which i think is 15 dollars, you have access to all wow content, except the latest expansion which right now is the war within, and also access to wow classic, with no additional purchase. I would recommend not buying the war within, you have 20 years of wow content to play and explore at your pace, there is no reason to spend money to go to the latest chapter, and when the next expansion comes out, all war within content will be added to the subscription. If you play and decide that you like it and want to play the latest chapter with everyone thats awesome, but you have time to try the game and decide to do that, consider it a second trial. All expansion have a story of its own so its not necessary to play in order, but if you play them in order you can get to know the characters and their stories, like for example all those characters that were on top of a pillar appear on earlier expansion (they are the equivalent of the dragon leaders in btw).
I would say go with the same character but don't boost him, would want you to learn all your classes abilities as you level to max (which is Level 80) because leveling right now is actually kinda fast. I don't play classic so I don't know, and you could as well as boost another class like Death Knight because thats a fun class or a different one doesn't matter.
Around the time Shadowlands came out, I put 500 hours into one character, and another 500 hours spread over all other classes and races that I've tried. F2P nowadays with 1k gold and a flying mount is nice! When I started, before the level squish, I had less content, 10 gold max, and only a riding mount. F2P is now pretty complete.
@@NostraDavid2 F2P isn't just 1k gold. You have access to the warband bank, which you can use to store unlimited gold. Just keep on putting gold in the bank before you reach the 1k cap
@@NostraDavid290% of my play time in wow for the past 15 years has been on trial accounts lol, back when the trial only lasted 10 days to now where we have almost unlimited access to almost everything thanks to chromie time
I completely understand modern wow and the players not being welcoming to new players. It's like starting a TV show on the 10th season with a 10 minute recap
As somebody who started WOW from it's release and got Gladiator during BC, I never cared for the story. As long as the game keeps people up to date with the core fundamentals that is good enough.
Some fun facts about Exile's Reach: When you spar against Captain Garrick, she will actually give you advice depending on your class and role. If you play ranged, say a hunter or a mage, she will give you advice about how to keep your distance. if you are a melee, she will give advice about how to always be close and face your target head on. The way you deal with the undead depends on whether you play Alliance or Horde. Unlike a giant boar, playing as a horde character introduced you to Goblin Technology, which allows you to make a shotgun blaster instead of a giant boar, and sends you up with that helicopter thing to rain terror from above. As you thought, your Meditation is indeed a class specific quest! warriors get to duel a ghost, shamans get to speak with nature and so on. Every class has a its own tiny quest to help immerse their class fantasy. Exile's Reach is SPECIFICALLY made for new players. Normally, each race has its own starting zone, with their own quests and story. Not a lot of help to newer players in mind, hence why Exile's Reach came to reality. Darkmoon Citadel is actually not a single player dungeon instance. It depends on how many players queue at the same time you does. The starting quest to the dragon islands is essentially the introduction to Dragonflight, which was the previous expansion prior to The War Within. Honestly, I can understand the confusion. Characters that you never talked to suddenly talk as if you know them. What was meant to happen is that you were supposed to go through BFA: which was the expansion where everything was supposed to make sense. Horde vs Alliance, and slowly introducing you to the characters. I guess that was just a fuck up from Blizzard. And my advice to you, is Never, EVER, ask something in the forums. So many toxic people who are really throwing all their anger about the game on new players. I would otherwise recommend the newcomers chat, which is found in a separate tab of your chat. Lots of friendly people there to help you with any questions you have!
One the things I’ve learned about mmorpgs is that the grind can be sort of a comfort, as opposed to a slog. Not always, you have to like the game’s particular loop. That’s all I have to contribute. Thanks for the video!
you could just make a different character and class for each expansions, that way you get to learn the story and the different classes, though to get the vanilla experience from when the game was first released you'd have to level a character in WoW Classic or Season of Discovery, because the zones got changed in the cataclysm expansion
@@SergeantsqueakersSorry, but if your only goal is story, 1-shoting things shouldn’t matter. Your goal is clearly not just story, so don’t make the argument if that’s the case.
I introduced my friend to WoW, the same issue arose when he was thrown into a random DLC, he was very overwhelmed immediately... I wish they had a better setup for new players... We closed the game and downloaded Classic WoW so he could get a proper look at what it's like to not be blasted through a kaleidoscope of zero chronological understanding. He absolutely loved the playthrough of Classic. He really didn't want to download a Quest helper addon either, which says a lot about the hyper speedrun spoonfed mentality MMO's have gotten used to. And I don't blame him, the adventure aspect of MMO's has being lost too.
My first experience with WoW I think was Legion, but a few months later after I tried WoTLK on a private server, honestly had a lot more fun Also I think the solo dungeon finder was so SAD when I saw it in the video, the whole fun of mmorpgs is other people
WoW's biggest problem is and always has been that they totally ignore all previous content. Every time they make a new expansion or something they just pretend everything else doesn't exist, and you experienced first hand how absolutely disjointed it makes the experience feel.
it's insane that the tutorial only took you 1 hour and 19 minutes🤯 let me explain why... last month, i talked my 56 year old father to try out WoW for the first time. after playing for 1 hour and 50 minutes, we only ended up at the 9:34 where you get your class specific quest. this is where he got burnt out and stopped playing the game🤣 great video, well done on the editing🙌🏻
I saw that one! He was very sweet about it! I think knowing the gaming language and limitations at heart helps us younger folk get in to and explore the digital world in another way then, say, your father did, who very much used real life experience to "tackle" the game!
12:37 note that The War Within is the first expansion where Free 2 Play accounts get a flying mount! It was "leg-car" city before that! I was so happy when they added it!
honestly this video opened my eyes a bit. i've been playing wow since i was decently young and was so hooked on the class fantasy so quickly. its been 15 years now (i am playing classic wow cata in my other monitor rn) and the game has grown and gone through several expansions and i havent truly considered how that may change the experience of a new player looking to try out the game. Great video!
I remember my first character I created back in Legion. It was a similar experience to the video here. I choose a Goblin hunter and the Goblin starting zone is still my favorite to this day. It's honestly the 1 bit of story from wow I remember fondly lol. But back then you had to lvl up to 20 to get a ground mount, than 40 for flying. I had no concept of dungeoning or raiding, so I would just quest around in different zones. Leveling up slowly and got burnt out. Years later I came back when Dragonflight was out and got hooked. I did level up my character through the Legion expansion when Dragonflight was new, and it certainly made me regret not playing it back when I first did. Now the War Within is treated as the true sequel to the Legion expansion. For a new player that is what I recommend you do, especially if you plan to play to new expansion. If not, you got 10 other expansions you can play through for only 15 dollars a month, without buying the new one.
The starting experience, coming off the starter isle, was made to pick up with Battle For Azeroth's content. Each expac has a fairly self-contained storyline but since The War Within the storyline picks up with the previous expac... You're not going to get a whole lot out of the leveling experience unless you find yourself being engrossed in the story. I, personally, enjoy the Legion and Wrath of the Lich King experiences. If you get bored of a storyline, and you will - DF questing was pretty bad, just find Chromie inside Stormwind to start on another story path. Talking to a guard can help you get acquainted with the various things inside the city if you need help. Welcome to WoW, I hope you enjoy your stay.
I'm legitimately glad new players can find the fun of WoW. I have a stupid amount of hours in both live and classic (that I can't see total of lol) but blizzard lost my favor years ago. Last year I tried the trial to see if I'd enjoy it again and didn't. But WoW has some serious heart and can make really unique experiences. I miss what it once was for me. I think a wave of new (and returning) players could bring it all back. God speed new players - may icyveins and wowhead guide you like it did us 🙏 ps. i just came from your mobile game video good stuff i subbed
I loved this video. I've been playing WoW on and off for about 12 years now, and have tried to introduce many people to the game, mostly unsuccessfully. It's notoriously difficult for new players to get into, for a wide variety of reasons, and has a very different gameplay experience than I think most people are exposed to now. In my opinion, most of the issues you ran into is attributable to one of the biggest flaws the new player experience has had for a long time. The game has been continuously adding content for two decades now, meaning that there are layers stacked on layers of various systems and narratives that all, essentially, have to be compatible. I think your experience between the starting zone and the Dragonflight expansion back is one of the best examples of this. The game has to account for the fact that a new player needs to start somewhere, but that it would not be optimal to throw them into content in chronological order. That would mean they'd be starting off in areas that are significantly older and less polished, and that the game they'd be experiencing is incredibly different than the game in its actual current state. As such, they're forced to start you at some other period in the lore, and they have to railroad you to that point in order to get you started. It also cannot be the newest content, as that requires buying the new expansion pack. There is essentially no perfect solution.
I think Exile's Reach should be updated Story-wise each Xpac. Kinda explain how Newer adventerers get involved in comparison to the players with years of association with the factions and reached lofty Titles. For instance for The War Within you could've had them be Crash Survivors from Dalaran giving you a hook on the story. The Chromie could come in and give us two options: The 'Pick your Own Adventure' we currently have.....and a Smashcut of all the Xpacs. Optimize a Lore Tour that takes about 7-10 hours to complete from start to finish that: Storm the Dark Portal and deal with Illidain, Find Kaelthas in Sunwell, Deal with the Lich King Invasion, the Civil War and SoO, Sundering and Slaying of Deathwing, etc etc. Pretty much a highlight reel from each expansion taking roughly an hour or two to go from xpac to xpac. I think itd be a good way to kinda show off the old story.......plus since youd prolly be doing Scenario's for most of that it'd give the Devs some room to recontextualize certain things or leave little breadcrumbs (Maybe Xalatath is WITH you in this little time journey)
Hey, so the game gave you the "Dragonflight" expansion which is the default one and also the previous expansion before The War Within came out. Once you level a character (if I remember correctly you have to level it to max level, which is 80 this expansion) you get to choose all of the previous expansions for your next character and experience all of them. You can only enter the current one if you have reached lvl 70 even if you have a character maxed out already.
As someone who's played since late The Burning Crusade, I thought this was really interesting! I tried Exile's Reach out of curiosity when it came out and thought it was *mostly* an excellent new player introduction. I absolutely agree with you on it being weird that they choose to show the The War Within cinematic when you log in. Used to be they only played the cinematic connected to the newest expansion you actually owned, and I recall before that they used to show all opening cinematics in order starting from the oldest one (again, up until the expansion you owned). I also agree that it's extremely confusing they toss you straight into Dragonflight. I get it, I get they wanna show new players the flashy and new side of the game, but the lore makes 0% sense at that point. I completely disagree with what that Forsaken player said to you on the forums. The story is important to some and unimportant to others, there's no single right way to play the game. I've been saying this for years but I wish they instead remodelled and retextured some of the old zones. At least the old starter zones and 1-2 of the adjacent zones. That way a new player could get a graphically up-to-date experience while also not getting confusing lore. 😄I get it's probably not possible due to the ancient game engine, but... it's a shame.
Great video! Always interesting to see how a truly new player sees WoW. I actually think they did alot to improve the new player expirience in the last couple of years but clearly there is still work to be done in this area. Was shocked by the number of subs so you totally get one from me, keep it up!
i will never understand why someone would play a human when having the choice to have like 18 other races that you have not seen your entire live outside of the computer before WoW
14:56 The problem right there, and Blizzard panders to these people! No wonder the new player experience in Retail is so confusing. Its as if the story and levelling no longer matters. @Tazzilou Play classic, read the quests and "play at your own pace". Thats how I enjoyed wow as a new player imo.
14:10 that's the problem with modern wow. In older expansions you were never the hero, you were always one of the soldiers and you help the actual heroes in war. Honestly recommend you play classic instead.
Great video! I've played WoW off and on for years, and even I have no idea about the actual storyline. I just started playing again about a week ago and I had no idea there was a "truce" between Horde and Alliance. Guess I'll have to go watch another vid to catch me up. Awesome content! Keep it up :)
¿Can you do a "Can Guild Wars 2 impress a new player in 1 day"? is my favorite MMO, and a couple of hours was enough to still it playing it , 8 years ago till this year
You as a new player choosing human monk is pretty funny. I've been playing wow for the greater half of my life (17 years or so). Always been my comfort game.
Here's something to add to your to-do list: Download Warcraft Classic, and compare the first couple of hours of it to the retail (Exile's Reach/Dragon Isles) experience.
Every new player these days starts on Exile's Reach. I did too. I played a Human Mage, although I main a Dracthyr Evoker now. I would like to continue my Mage though. I did give them a dumb name though and was dying to play a Dracthyr instead when I started.
I never questioned the quality of the edition, content or presentation but i must say i got very surprised after i saw your subs. Best of luck out there, hope to see you around on Azeroth! And don't worry about realms, its basically an engineering thing from back in the day to help organize players into smaller sized servers.
Another little tidbit, making a tavern or otherwise available inn your home will make you able to use the hearthstone in your inventory to teleport to that area. This can help if you get stuck, if you have to get back to turn in quests fast, or to get back to the main city easily without paying anything for a flight path.
3:15 YES! Let's GO!! Sorry, but I'm always hyped when people play Monk :D EDIT: Okay I've finished the Video now and I hope I can answer some of your questions. 1) Yes. Every new Player has to go through Exile's Reach and every Class has one unique Quest as you've already assumed. 2) At the End you were thrown into the Dragon Flight DLC, the previous latest Expansion, for various reasons. It's the most stable UX. Its Story is more or less self-contained and it features Characters from the Exile's Reach Tutorial like Captain Garrick and includes Events leading up to the current DLC. The Expansion also offers you so called "Follower Dungeons" as an Option to learn specific Dungeons & Mechanics with NPCs, kind of like Darkmaul Citadel in the Beginning. And most importantly it'll introduce you to the fairly new "Skyriding/Dragonriding" Ability of Dynamic Flight. (The Dragon Isles are currently the best way for new Players. Because prior to them being the new leveling zone, it was as total mess. Now it is very streamlined) 3) About the Names of Abilites. There's a Searchbar in the bottom left of your Skill-Tree where you can type them in. Same goes for your Spellbook (Default: [ P ]) There it is in the top right, and if you klick in it you'll get a choice of "show me Skills not in my Actionbars" to ensure you have everything you need put onto your bars. (You won't need everything for much of the Game, but check regularly to be sure not to miss some awesome new Stuff) Speaking of, holding [ Shift ] lets you re-arrange your Skills on your Actionbars. And you might want to take yourself some time to read through all your active & passive Abilities, as mindless spamming buttons will only work for a certain period of time. You don't have to read up guides or take a PhD, but a general Overview is really handy as a lot of Classes have multiple Resources. Like Monk having Energy & Chi. Knowing what is a "builder" and what's a "spender" might give you a better understanding of damage. (e.g. the Windwalker-Monks Mastery-Passive is basically a "Combo". Whilst in-fight your damage increases every time you don't use a Skill twice in a row. So spamming reduces your Damage) 4) Indeed. (Almost) Every Race has their unique "Starting Zone" from within the past 20 Years of WoW and it's not a good UX nowadays. But since you've finished the Tutorial successfully you can now try them out and see for yourself. Most of them are at least 12 Years old. Last but not least I just want to point out, that you can check out the Options Menu from in-Game for a lot of QoL settings. Like faster looting, displayed Numbers on your Healthbar or displayed Cooldown-timers. There's also the "Edit Mode" Button when you press [ ESC ] right next to the Options Button where you can re-arrange most of your UI and save it for your other Characters. _ _ _ I hope I didn't backseat-game to much here D: As WoW should be experienced by yourself. Cheers :)
I was in the same boat of never having played WoW before, but I got lucky since 2019 was the year classic vanilla came out, so I got to play that + all the expansions that followed with some friends.
Have you tried FFXIV? I'm a few months in. The community is so welcoming to new players that it restored my faith in gaming. Plus, you can get literally hundreds of hours out of the free trial that it offers Great video btw
Should make a series on this with other MMO’s. New World just got a big update and that’s the MMO I’ve been playing recently, would be cool to see a video like this with NW, and other mmo’s
One of the great things about WoW is if you want to see what the original game was like, you can play Classic. You can also play up through Cataclysm if you want to get somewhere in between.
As a new player myself, I spent 10 hours configuring the damn game. Interface, Addons, had to find a whole new "hotkey" system that works for most characters.
I'd love to see more of this development, I hope it's in the cards. Don't have to get deep into the game of course, I wouldn't just expect you to willy nilly become addicted or something, but seeing you try like one leveling campaign or something (fair warning, these can take 16 hours~ if you're new to the expansion it takes place in. Some older expansions are even longer) And you could touch on your reaction to things like : "Hitting the max level before the area before im finished leveling in it" etc. or what your first dungeon experience is like. I'd give "advice" but I don't want to taint your first time reactions to anything if you do go that route, I like what I've seen so far! And I'm really curious about the "new" (or "returning") player experiences because as a long time player I've always been bad at giving advice, particularly when something I am able to do (like, as in, actually have the go-ahead to do it from the game) is not something a new player is able to do (like not seeing certain quests, or something not being where I'd have expected it to be, etc.)
Greetings, the video is well made and I like it. In fact I was expecting this video to be from yet another essay-channel with hundred-thousand of subscribers/views. This wasn't the first video I watched and liked from this channel as well, but it really caught me by surprise to see the subscriber count of this channel and the view count of this video. Again, this video is well made, entertaining and for someone who player WoW for some time also very interesting. :) Also something I have to note, and I don't mean it in a bad way, just something I have to think of every time I see you: your look like you have a marshmallow in each cheek. o.o In a more positive way: you have a distinct face :D ... I have the feeling I'm not making this better. sorry
A third comment to help lighten the load a bit; World of Warcraft has players use old content to try and get through their leveling, before they can *REALLY* start with the latest expansion. Without going to a small gnome character by the name of Chromie (in Stormwind city, outside the alliance embassy marked on Stormwind's upper middle area), you'll be forced into the Dragon Isles. You can choose what you wish to go through by selecting a timeline by talking to Chromie. My personal favorite is Legion, but if you wanted to continue the Exile's Reach branch, you'd want to do Battle for Azeroth, where Exile's Reach was released for new players. You're kinda pushed into Dragon Isles because of the fact that it ties in most with the latest story. The guy referenced in the video ('you see a quest, just do it') is an asshole and shouldn't be giving advice.
5:56 yes literally every new player horde or alliance goes to the island, if you played it before you can choose the new start (which is what you played) and the original start that actually starts you someplace different depending on race
you dont understand just how much history is really between those two characters. say what you will about gameplay, or the new expansions. but classic wow-WOTLK was top tier lore writing. fucking incredible
2:46 actually, that used to be a thing in wow too! there was a really detailed version of the character select screen with more lore on the races and i think there was also more depth to the classes.. dunno where that went tho. i think there used to be a button or checkbox to enable it..
Really nice video! I think a lot of people have the same issue with the jarring pacing of the story. So many things have changed or been adjusted over the many many years WoW has been out that it makes getting new players acquainted with the story basically an impossible task. Though I think they are trying to cater to people who want to get to the endgame as soon as possible. For comparison, I played Final Fantasy XIV after playing WoW for so long and wanting to try something different, and that game presents the story as a singular, continuous unfragmented experience from beginning to end. It doesn't matter if you started the game on the latest expansion, you need to go through the story of the base game, and all the previous expansions, first. It took much longer to get to the endgame but the actual experience of leveling up and just enjoying the story was MUCH better for me. On another note, I'm quite interested in what you would think of World of Warcraft Classic, if you ever feel like trying that one out. I'd like to see how that compares to the modern game for someone unfamiliar with WoW.
TWW is kinda fun, but the big changes are, once again, mainly focused on the classes. Delves and the story are boring as ever, and the gearing progression is as lame as it was before. The specialization changes feel good, but that’s really all there is to it.
They really should throw you into the old world Azeroth content (eastern kingdoms and kalimdor on the map) coz it does get confusing going straight to the dragon isles
I loved leveling my characters in WoW.. but at one point when it comes to doing dungeons or knowing what quests you need to do it gets sooo confusing, not to mention finding a Guild, or not being insulted for not knowing what to do in the dungeons, or vote kicked in my experience lol...
really well done video. also glad you enjoy a game i enjoy for almost 20 years now. if you ever need some guidance or just someone that can answer basicly any question hit me up :D
I just started the game a little less than a year ago, I find it very fun. When it comes to the story if you want to try to do it semi in order you should go back to the eastern kingdoms and do quests in the areas around stormwind. Also there are videos by people like Nobel who have a recap of the lore before specific expansions like Dragonflight (The Dragon Isles) if I remember correctly.
Blizzard has always done amazing cut scenes. Like insanely good from the start of WoW. They lack at listening to the communities of their games and what's actually want and not what streamers are saying is wanted. Remember, boys and girls, streamers and pro players are the top 1%. Don't appeal to a small percentage like that and appeal to your core audience and keep them coming back and staying in!
They should just make you go to Chromie the first time around and make the Cataclysm (revamped classic zones) the recommended starting point. Throwing you into Dragonflight as a newbie, which is built upon years of lore and expects the player to already be a Champion was a terrible choice. Even BfA as a starting point was better, since that at least captures the classic conflict between the Alliance and the Horde, and had a better story in my opinion.
The problem with getting an impression of WoW is that what you did is akin to forming an impression of a book by only reading the first two sentences. I know it's hard, but I would encourage you to at least go through the leveling process until you reach the current expansion. Then, queue for one or two dungeons, participate in the current anniversary event raid, and try a battleground. I think this is the very minimum you need to do to get a brief impression of the game.
Depends on the class, and sometimes faction even.. I'd say if you've never played it before except for those 5 hours, I'd definitely recommend a retry. Especially now that they just relaunched classic fresh servers.. Me personally, I just LOVE playing rogue.. and it's the most fun I've had in the game even after levelling other classes up to max. Classic is definitely more fun than the current patch because it really forces you to cooperate with other players in your faction. Finding a good guild is more important, and there is usually plenty of friendly levelling guilds welcoming new players.
Almost every race, and even many classes, have their own individual starting location. Since you are a Monk, you are automatically starting in the Pandarian expansion. Then to older content, then you got shot into the newest expansion which in my opinion is really daft for them to just eject someone into because everything is out of order
The meditation it tailored to monks. Every class has stuff on Newbie Isle. Original intros back in 2004 had stuff like that too, but was less impressive comparatively.
14:00 hearthstone is for when you want to get back to a location you go to often, old times you used to use it when leveling because you would change it often depending on where you were leveling, since mounts weren’t accessible till 40 which was a grind, now hearthstones are more for capital city’s for a quick teleport when you need to do auction stuff or deal with your bank real quick
Classic all the way
@superslayerguy yeah if you want to hate your life sure classic is such cancer and probably the most boring iteration of wow possible
Calling the Expansion a "DLC" aged me.
Same. It feels wrong.
@@mathiassvendsen9788 It only feels wrong if you aren't keeping up with the lingo.
@@Kanoog no it feels wrong because its wrong
@@Kanoogdlc can be anything but an expansion is more like a mini sequal. It’s like a square and a rectangle
WoW expansions aren’t DLC. they are non-optional expansions. you can’t download the war within. you can download the game and thats it.
Smart guy to start with the free trial.
I've played every available race, every available class, visited every location I could, did every quest. 500 hours easy.
@@NostraDavid2 F2P isn't just 1k gold. You have access to the warband bank, which you can use to store unlimited gold. Just keep on putting gold in the bank before you reach the 1k cap
@@NostraDavid2 might be time to give the devs a little support back lol
@@NostraDavid290% of my play time in wow for the past 15 years has been on trial accounts lol, back when the trial only lasted 10 days to now where we have almost unlimited access to almost everything thanks to chromie time
I completely understand modern wow and the players not being welcoming to new players. It's like starting a TV show on the 10th season with a 10 minute recap
As somebody who started WOW from it's release and got Gladiator during BC, I never cared for the story. As long as the game keeps people up to date with the core fundamentals that is good enough.
Played wow classic. Reached lvl 60. Got flamed I didn't know every boss mechanic because I didn't play back in the day for 10k hours. Quit.
@@nilsholzer6669 because you didn't bother to look up boss mechanics. Anyone who does that should quit, I'm glad you did.

@@C-R. but WoW isn't dying.
Some fun facts about Exile's Reach:
When you spar against Captain Garrick, she will actually give you advice depending on your class and role.
Thanks for the video!
this is why i wished u had an option to play thru all the exps with reduced xp gain so u can get the story and not be rushed to max level
what is with the obsession with the max lvl thing?you can still do all story stuff regardless of level lol
@@deenman23 yes but it be nice to do it all any not 1 shot everything or have to teleport to disable xp
you could just make a different character and class for each expansions, that way you get to learn the story and the different classes, though to get the vanilla experience from when the game was first released you'd have to level a character in WoW Classic or Season of Discovery, because the zones got changed in the cataclysm expansion
Or just do a story mode where you can do the quests but you have a max level character
I wish you can just start with Classic and work your way through the story, as the rest of us did. And just transfer as you finish.
My first experience with WoW I think was Legion, but a few months later after I tried WoTLK on a private server, honestly had a lot more fun
Also I think the solo dungeon finder was so SAD when I saw it in the video, the whole fun of mmorpgs is other people
WoW's biggest problem is and always has been that they totally ignore all previous content. Every time they make a new expansion or something they just pretend everything else doesn't exist, and you experienced first hand how absolutely disjointed it makes the experience feel.
You should try guild wars 2. All previous expansions are just as difficult and relevant as the day they came out
Ahh yes good old "wow biggest problem is.." comments

it's insane that the tutorial only took you 1 hour and 19 minutes🤯 let me explain why...
last month, i talked my 56 year old father to try out WoW for the first time. after playing for 1 hour and 50 minutes, we only ended up at the 9:34 where you get your class specific quest. this is where he got burnt out and stopped playing the game🤣
great video, well done on the editing🙌🏻
9:40 yes, this quest is monk-only. Every class gets its own unique quest, on this island. Just the one though.
This is such a valuable video, I really hope someone at Blizzard picks this up, excellent criticism from the perspective of a brand new player.
Back in my day we called DLC's "expansion packs"
I enjoyed this video, look forward to seeing you play more.
back in my day youtubers weren't sitting on exercise balls holding condenser mics in their hand
16:00 it probably has been lost in the tutorial, but setting your home enables you to use your Hearthstone item to teleport back to that location.
God speed new players - may icyveins and wowhead guide you like it did us 🙏
ps. i just came from your mobile game video good stuff i subbed
"i have no idea what good a stoneform will do you" bro you would be SHOOK if only you knew

Great video for such a small channel. Here's a like and a comment!
I agree! I watch some WoW stuff so this popped up in my aglorythim and very well done sir! Subbed!
thanks for your like and comment
Really well made video for such a small channel. Good stuff man loving the narration
Cuz I'm a racist
14:56 The problem right there, and Blizzard panders to these people! No wonder the new player experience in Retail is so confusing. Its as if the story and levelling no longer matters. @Tazzilou Play classic, read the quests and "play at your own pace". Thats how I enjoyed wow as a new player imo.
14:10 that's the problem with modern wow. In older expansions you were never the hero, you were always one of the soldiers and you help the actual heroes in war.
Honestly recommend you play classic instead.
you were never the hero lol, you literally killed an elemental lord in the first raid
Kills are actually shared as long as you deal at least 10% damage to the mob
You have to watch South Park: Make Love, Not Warcraft before you decide to play some more.
😆🤣
Great video! I've played WoW off and on for years, and even I have no idea about the actual storyline. I just started playing again about a week ago and I had no idea there was a "truce" between Horde and Alliance. Guess I'll have to go watch another vid to catch me up. Awesome content! Keep it up :)
¿Can you do a "Can Guild Wars 2 impress a new player in 1 day"? is my favorite MMO, and a couple of hours was enough to still it playing it , 8 years ago till this year
Nice views on 1,7k subs, keep it going bro!
Except Warcraft Classic is not available as a Free Trial :D
Every new player these days starts on Exile's Reach. I did too. I played a Human Mage, although I main a Dracthyr Evoker now. I would like to continue my Mage though. I did give them a dumb name though and was dying to play a Dracthyr instead when I started.
What are these "Male and Female" you speak of??
Surely, you're not mistaken them for "Body Type 1 and 2"
😂 ah, you troll
hahahaahaha
i think you are retarded
lolz
Also calling men body type 1 is pretty sexist anyway
I never questioned the quality of the edition, content or presentation but i must say i got very surprised after i saw your subs. Best of luck out there, hope to see you around on Azeroth! And don't worry about realms, its basically an engineering thing from back in the day to help organize players into smaller sized servers.
Another little tidbit, making a tavern or otherwise available inn your home will make you able to use the hearthstone in your inventory to teleport to that area. This can help if you get stuck, if you have to get back to turn in quests fast, or to get back to the main city easily without paying anything for a flight path.
14:15 yeah, the whole "CHAMPION!" thing is weird to get right out of the gate. It's jarring.
A lot of the really fun stuff is at the max level, too, like raids and mythics. So it's hard to showcase this to new players as well
Literally fell in love with the game when I did my first quest so yes
NAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH FAM this vid is so fkn good i thought it said 458K and not 458 subs :Sob:
3:15 YES! Let's GO!! Sorry, but I'm always hyped when people play Monk :D
EDIT:
Okay I've finished the Video now and I hope I can answer some of your questions.
Now it is very streamlined)
3) About the Names of Abilites. There's a Searchbar in the bottom left of your Skill-Tree where you can type them in.
Same goes for your Spellbook (Default: [ P ])
There it is in the top right, and if you klick in it you'll get a choice of "show me Skills not in my Actionbars" to ensure you have everything you need put onto your bars.
(You won't need everything for much of the Game, but check regularly to be sure not to miss some awesome new Stuff)
Speaking of, holding [ Shift ] lets you re-arrange your Skills on your Actionbars.
So spamming reduces your Damage)
4) Indeed.

I hope I didn't backseat-game to much here D:
As WoW should be experienced by yourself.
Cheers :)
I was in the same boat of never having played WoW before, but I got lucky since 2019 was the year classic vanilla came out, so I got to play that + all the expansions that followed with some friends.

One of the great things about WoW is if you want to see what the original game was like, you can play Classic. You can also play up through Cataclysm if you want to get somewhere in between.
I can't believe how toxic wow players are just look at the comments
Dudes spend 20years of their best time on this game so they gotta feel good at least somehow. By shaming noobs for class/race choice it seems
If you log out in your “player home” you get rested xp that gives you bonus xp while leveling.
I saw the thumbnail and immediately thought "No" (I have played WoW for nearly 13 years)
As a new player myself, I spent 10 hours configuring the damn game.
Greetings,
the video is well made and I like it. :)
Also something I have to note, and I don't mean it in a bad way, just something I have to think of every time I see you: your look like you have a marshmallow in each cheek. o.o
In a more positive way: you have a distinct face :D
... I have the feeling I'm not making this better. sorry
you can resize every ui feature with ui scaling section. also we often use add-ons.
2:46 actually, that used to be a thing in wow too! there was a really detailed version of the character select screen with more lore on the races and i think there was also more depth to the classes.. dunno where that went tho. i think there used to be a button or checkbox to enable it..
there are like 1000 videos up right now with the title "I played world of warcraft for the first time!"
You managed to pass the /wave quest without endlessly typing in newcomer chat. That's quite the outlier for a new player.
I have been playing since Day 1 and still play the game. There's millions of things to keep you busy.
I jumped straight into classic wow when i started, and had time of my life. Literally one of the best games i have played (little expensive tho)
Stopped once WoD hit because I couldn't recognize the game I used to love anymore. I'm horrified to see what it has become today.
the complaint in wod was not enough content lol,tww is pretty good, and you always have classic if you are a 2 apm boomer
You can always pick a private server if you want to stick with old servers. Vanilla, Wotlk and Legion are pretty popular.
TWW is kinda fun, but the big changes are, once again, mainly focused on the classes. Delves and the story are boring as ever, and the gearing progression is as lame as it was before. The specialization changes feel good, but that’s really all there is to it.
I've switched to OSRS y'all.
That cinematic is insane wtf my pc made it 720p 😂
Can edit UI by pressing Escape -> Edit UI.
Speaking of which - he didn't even go into the settings, or the addons. That's each a video of their own 😂
They really should throw you into the old world Azeroth content (eastern kingdoms and kalimdor on the map) coz it does get confusing going straight to the dragon isles
They really shouldn't. Cata questing isn't very up to date.
well looks like its time to dip back in for another 100 hours.
bro edged me, thought you were gonna pick a tauren lmfao
Run far away from this game now you still can.
When other players hit a mob, u can hit also hit it once and youll get the rewards from it
I just started the game a little less than a year ago, I find it very fun.
Try WoW Classic next? I'm interested to hear you thoughts about it as a new player
that dragon isles quest is the latest expansion quest.
5:50 yes, all new accounts go through this Island experience.
Stoneform unironically one of the best racial in the entire game
the sad thing is that they just throw u in an late expansion... instead of just let u start in classic and going through the timeline...
Problem no 1. - you turned on Retail
I just started a few weeks ago and this is such an amazing game
I started playing for about 5 hours but it was boring. Should i try it again? (classic)
@@rosebeforehoes9829 yea i see it. thank you ill try it again. can i start by hardcore or should i just play classis normal? i wanna play a demonist
Original intros back in 2004 had stuff like that too, but was less impressive comparatively.
my first time was on hc wow and i loved it the world looked so amazing despite the old graphics
14:00 hearthstone is for when you want to get back to a location you go to often, old times you used to use it when leveling because you would change it often depending on where you were leveling, since mounts weren’t accessible till 40 which was a grind, now hearthstones are more for capital city’s for a quick teleport when you need to do auction stuff or deal with your bank real quick
the ship at the start? that feels like new world?
