Also the lyrics are slightly more blasphemous on the original. Only a few words were changed for the video but it makes a big difference somehow.

This is the alternate clean and short version of this song that was tv friendly back then...the REAL, band preferred longer and raw uncensored version is Waaay better
The uncensored music video has that amazing shot of Peter as Christ, being embraced by the Christian Woman in the video as dark, hooded figures circle around him counter clockwise.
Peter Steele was a giant. Like 6'8" and a huge chest despite his gauntness. That dude was resonance personified. He'd play an upright bass strapped up like a guitar.
Was real sad to hear when Peter passed. He had just really cleaned up his life not long beforehand and was known to be one of the nicest guys you could meet, though shy. Insane voice..... also Kenny deserves a shout out for being one of the best backing vocalists out there.
He was really tall too, there's an episode of JERRY SPRINGER he was on, talking about "GROUPIES" 😂
I saw him live. It was like an optical illusion. You'd think the other members were standing in the background but then you'd realize they were standing right next to him.

I saw Type O live in 1995, one of the loudest concerts I've ever been to (they were opening for Pantera). In this cleaned up video, instead of "she knows she must hide", he sings "and between her thighs". He hit the same note with "thighs" as he did with "hide" here, but it was full blast. The entire arena shook from his voice, everybody went crazy. One of the best shows I've ever been to.
Peter Steele sang and played bass in the band, not guitar. That was Kenny Hickey.
You need to listen to their album October Rust. In my opinion it's their best work, I have all of their albums.

Met Pete Steele a few times in the 90's. Very lovely guy, not massively outgoing but very kind and nice to be around. Dude was like 6'7, if not more. He was in Playgirl and it apparently was the worst selling issue some how, which is mad since he's so loved.
That's also the video version, the full version is so much better but clocks in at like 11 mins. They played Donnington Monsters of Rock in 97 and played three songs. Black no1, Christian Woman and My Girlfriend's Girlfriend.

See, now if nobody tells you, you wouldn't know you only got a quarter of the full experience of this song, with the advertiser approved lyrics in the first part, and the trimmed-away second and third parts which, honestly, couldn't really be made advertiser friendly.
I'm going to go out on a very short, sturdy limb here and say you should take the whole album _Bloody Kisses_ in as a piece. It'd be for the best.

Pete was a true bass but his range is crazy. There are some really great songs from them.
Peter Steele (vocals & bass) was the main songwriter in Type O Negative... Sadly, he passed away in 2010 😪 He was a giant guy (6 ft+) and quite a character offstage as well... His lyrics were also very politically incorrect 😁 He first came to fame w/ the band Carnivore in the 80's, which was a hardcore band from NYC w/ charged lyrics and released 2 albums... Songs included - 'Jesus Hitler' ... 'Male supremacy'... (U get to hear the hardcore vocal style of Peter Steele)
He formed Type O Negative after disbanding Carnivore... he brought in his friend (& producer) Josh Silver on keyboards. Peter felt that Type O Negative could have broader appeal as a 'doom metal' band than Carnivore... Kenny Hickey (guitar) joined and did some lead vocals in Type O w/ Peter Steele... Type O Negative debuted in 1991 w/ 'Slow, deep and hard'... but it was their 1993 album 'Bloody Kisses' that broke commercially - it would sell gold, and then platinum in the USA... 'Christian Woman' and 'Black No.1' were the big MTV singles, but they were heavily edited from the album versions... Johnny Kelly (drums) replaced original drummer Sal Abruscato by 1994.
Type O Negative became known as the 'Drab Four' 🤢🤢🤢🤢
Type O indulged in the usual mix of NYC dark humor and gothic romance... Their next album 'October Rust' in 1996 went gold in the US and had some success w/ the singles - "My girlfriend's girlfriend" ... 'Cinnamon girl' (Neil Young cover) ... 'Love you to death'... 🤘🤘
1999 delivered a dark Type O album "World coming down"... and they didn't get the same promotion as past records... "Everyone I love is dead"... is my fave track off that record.
Type O Negative was still actively recording and touring for the albums - 'Life is killing me' (2003) and 'Dead again' (2007)... before Peter Steele died unexpectedly in 2010 and Type O Negative disbanded after that.

When I was in my early 20's I had long dyed-black hair, all the way to my waist. I was a bassist in a local, unknown heavy-metal band at the time and that was the "look". I'm also 6'6" tall and was well-built back then. Type O came to my city and played at a club called the Mason Jar. Peter saw me in the crowd hitting on some chick and called me out to come on the stage with him. We were very close to being identical twins. he was taller and was a bit more built than me, but we were basically the same size, shape, and had the same hair/ look. Peter being Peter... he asked the audience who was the uglier of us, and put his hand over my head, then his own, so the crowd could cheer for the ugliest of the two of us, lol. He had a pretty great sense of humor and at the time I thought it was just fun and games, but looking back... I think he was trying to help me get laid. The dude was a stud in real life and he was a presence in the room. Bringing me up and showing this chick how similar I was to him helped me a lot... so in way, Peter saw the situation, knew what was going on, and made himself a temporary wing man to help a brother out, lol. At least, that's what I like to think looking back. RIP man, and a belated thank you!

The full album version is worth the extra time just for some of the odd sonic switchups.
Seeing these guys at The Metro in Chicago is one of my top 5 shows all time. These guys had so much fun on stage. A few songs in Peter in his heavy New York accent tells us "Sorry I have f'in' gall stones and I gotta piss" walks off stage, comes back a minute later and continues the show. A little later, I can't remember if it was a roadie or another band member that swapped Kenny's beer with a bottle of hot sauce. Absolute legends!!!
Typo was like an anomaly, they shouldn't have been so popular, they didn't fit in anywhere. They were just so good that we all loved them dearly

If nobody’s mentioned it, this video features rewritten lyrics. Peter penned those and then recorded new vocal parts for this version. The original lyrics contain maybe one word that couldn’t have been aired, but nothing explicit or graphic. Yet Mtv must’ve still had too much of an issue with them. This rendition was later released as the “(Sell-out Version)” in the form of a bonus track. And Peter was a bass-baritone, a voice type more common among Gothic groups.

Wow, the lyrics changes on this version kind of shocked me. They made it cleaner, I guess. I've never seen this video before, I just played along with the CD probably over 1000 times as a teenager. Kenny Hickey played guitar in Type O. Peter Steele was the vocalist and bass guitarist. Peter influenced my playstyle in that I always sling my bass low, nearly at arms length, and I have used a chain instead of a strap with some of my earlier instruments. I like to think of my playstyle as a mix, seven parts Steve Harris and three parts Peter Steele.

Yeah, you need to listen to the studio version. The lyrics are quite a bit different and the song is a lot longer... actually the entire "Bloody Kisses" is worth listening to. I would recommend following this up with "I don't wanna be me" or "My girlfriend's girlfriend"

Yeah, you've got to listen to the Album version. It's delightfully naughty. As is Wolf Moon if you get around to it but my recommendation is Haunted by Type O. Fairly long and slow song but it's amazing and it's low vocals galore.

Hi. Hear "Nettie" from her. It's about his mother, so he sings to her in that song, as if he's apologizing for everything he's done in his life. He was extremely attached to his mother. Of course, many people feel the same way about this thing, it's also true. It is also a very touching and human song.

Wow. I never knew there was this heavily edited of a version! No disrespect to the reactor (how would you know) but when I was expecting to hear “on your back or knees” and got whatever this said, I had to stop the video.I guess my beloved 90’s were more censored than I remember… I’ll have to go into the attic and dig out my boxes of CDs and see if this version was on Bloody Kisses.
Love You To Death is the only vid where they didn't mangle the lyrics. Other than that, always do the album versions. Much more to appreciate
