Not only did it effectively give birth to the sci-fi and fantasy film genres, but it was essentially the catalyst for cinematic storytelling as we know it. Cinema as we know it might not exist without this movie. Not to mention Méliè's special effects and editing were like Matrix/Avatar-level groundbreaking at the time.

This is honestly one of my favorite songs of all-time.
Quick story, this band is from Chicago. I think it was 2012, an alternative rock station in Chicago called Q101 went off the air after 25+ years and this was the last song they played before going off the air. Q101 eventually came back a couple years later after the format they replaced it with failed miserably, but it was pretty sentimental at the time.

You nailed it when you said it feels like a date in high-school. Modern reviewers say the Pumpkins music, in the 90s, was merciful with teenagers (the word they use is not merciful, but I can't find it in my head, it's a word that means the opposite to selfish and slef-centered). They say the Pumpkins didn't make the music they wanted to do, per se, but the music they knew kids needed. And I think it's true! When I was 16 in 1996, they were gods to me. Those old albums are very cringe today, they don't talk to me any more. But I'm 44, not 16 now. By the way, in the mid 90s, there were considered grunge, but that was just a commercial label to sell albums, when actually their music takes from many sources of pop music: all the 90s alternative rock, 80s goth rock and hardcore, power ballad, new romantic, and so on.
Others songs to react to: Here is no Why, Thirty-Three, 1979, and Zero (although it's a plagiarism of Christian Death's song Deathwish. The lyrics of Here is No Why even talk about deathrock boys, which Christian Death fans were called)

I've always thought that Hip Hop and Metal should be the two sides of the same coin, for both are intense, have powerful messages and are really energetic.
    Congratulations for your channel, Rob.
Cheers from Uruguay, South America 🇺🇾🎧✌️🙏🥃

MCR was next gen. Smashing Pumpkins were a 90s band and actually released an album last year (2023) disbanded in 2000 and returned in 2006. One of my favorites. You should do some 311 next!

Smashing Pumpkins is my all time favorite band. Great to see other Black people discover them! They have incredible range. I would recommend Bullet with Butterfly Wings for the next react video, though you would also like Zero, Cherub Rock, and probably 1979.

Totally summer night date, strawberry wine on a picnic, first love vibes! Lol, and that was me when they came out entering HS. I loved the Smashing Pumpkins. I feel like their star also faded too fast. Like they were here one day & then gone!

The music video is based on the 1902 movie A Trip to the Moon which was one of the most influential movies of all time bc of the spectacle and early use of color

Check out a band called Hum. "Stars" is mostly likely the only thing most have heard from them but "The Pod," "Dreamboat," and even "Step into You," from their most recent album are good places to start

dude, sp been around forever, one of my biggest influences as a teen and a musician back in the 90s. they're super diverse and there's no way to really get a beat on them until you've heard at least 10 songs. it would be interesting to see you react to the very next song on that album, 'jelly belly'. they take you from this song straight into an in your face blistering rock song. there's just so much, a wide variety.
and, if you're into emo, you should react to 'sunny day real estate'. they're like OG emo imo.

You hit the nail on the head with Welcome to the Black Parade. That singer of My Chemical Romance was directly influenced by Billy Corgan to pursue his own music career.

The Pumpkins were definitely long before MCR or Panic at the Disco. Super diverse band so they have lots of other music you may like or really not vibe with. They were sort of lumped into the grunge-adjacent alternative rock scene in the 90s but they have a ton of really eclectic influences and sounds, from 70s arena and prog rock to weird chamber pop with harps to really intense Sabbathian metal to My Bloody Valentine-ish shoegaze. They threw all that stuff in a blender with a good dose of gothic aesthetics but it always came out the other side unified by Billy's unique voice and lyrics and (usually) easily-identifiable massive guitar sounds.
    Something poppy and nostalgic: 1979
    Something louder and darker: Zero
Something big and triumphant: Cherub Rock
Something artsy and epic: Porcelina of the Vast Oceans
    Sheer audio violence: X.Y.U.
    Much more experimental: Eye

Hell yeah man, I can see how you see them as similar to MCR and PATD.
Stoned Statues would be a band I’d suggest. They are a newer band from Finland and I think they deserve some hype. Heavy Steps, The End, Until Falling, Higher, Amor’s Attack, and Oblivious are some of my favorite songs from them.
