In this video, I react for the first time to Type O Negative performing 'Black No. 1'. In this video, I analyse Type O Negative's amazing performance, explain and demonstrate their vocal techniques and I'll tell you what I think made it so great.
This was a popular request in my Halloween poll and I am beyond excited to share it with you all!

-Peter Steele (Jan 4, 1962 - April 14, 2010).
Rest in peace, Green Man. The Type O family loves you always & forever.
Peter was a nazi
There is no band like Type O Negative. I highly recommend them!
Still one of my fav’s
Absolutely!
Really? When I first heard this band I thought Danzig had a new album out. Not saying they ripped Glenn's sound off at all, but sometimes I can't tell the difference.
No there really, literally is not.
@@pyrettablaze86 Yes, there literally is seeing that he's a Glenn Danzig clone.
RIP Peter Steele, the album version is so much longer, you should really check that out, there's so many great sections to this song, if you're gonna check out another song from these guys you should listen to Love you to Death.
ya when you seen gwar a bunch of times its not shocking any more lol.
Yes! This! Been suggesting Love you to Death to FVM a few times now. Would love to see a react to that.
If your going to react to "Love you to Death" might I suggest the audio version and not the video. Every Type O video get chopped heaps.
Yes, I was also wondering what was going on here, after all, the reaction video is only 30 seconds longer than the original song.
Def she should review that version
You owe it to yourself to listen to their song Love You to Death. It is, in my opinion, their absolute best.
Better than wolf moon?
@@rickcolumbo3148
Both Wolf Moon and Love You To Death are sexeh-as-f*ck TON songs.
October Rust actually has quite few like that. Great album overall.
Love You to Death and Anesthesia are my favorite two by them by far. Absolute masterpieces!
Anastasia or Druidess, or I dont want to be me or….
@@kungfury6410
Anesthesia, not Anastasia.
Get the spelling right - nothing is more annoying for a reactor taking requests than going looking for a song that doesn't exist cos people can't get the name right.
And for that matter, it's BE MY Druidess... not just Druidess.
Peter Steele was an amazing musician as well as person. And anyone who can pick up and play a double bass as if it were a bass guitar gets bonus points.
Absolutely. His bass playing on top of his vocals, he was so talented, a true genius.
Omg I know, he was so huge 😅💚🖤
@@pyrettablaze86 Saw them live years ago. Still amazed at how fast the guy on keyboards took off his leather trench coat. Still playing, one armed popped out and the jacket was on the floor. If I had blinked, I'd've missed it.
@@1rexrex Josh was great. His hair deserved its own Zipcode lol Sadly of the 3 remaining band members he's the only one not in a band. He's an EMT in NY though, which is pretty badass as well IMO.
@@pyrettablaze86 wasn't he the only guy to pose turgid in play girl?
As I'm approaching my 30th year as a Type O Negative fan, it makes me very happy that the utter brilliance of this band is still recognized. The arrangement and attention to detail that went into the songs makes it possible to hear new stuff even after all these years.
My kid is getting into TON right now, which is so delightful, re-discovering it through her lens/ears.
I agree, it never gets old. I still get chills when I hear this sone. I love introducing new ppl to Type O also. I Miss Peter, we all do.
I always enjoy people reacting to Type O Negative 🤩
If you haven't seen mine yet, feel free to stop by. ;)
Pete was literally a true giant in music.
In every respect ;-)
@@AndrewJShirleyyeah, and his little big one ☝️
HELLO GORGEOUS!! Ahhh so I was supposed to upload this yesterday but I have had a bloody nightmare trying to get it unblocked! On Halloween too, how appropriate 👻 I can't monetise it but it's up and that's the main thing. I hope you like it 💜
I'm pretty sure I will enjoy this. I'm assuming that you did. See you later.
That’s a right PITA, wish they would stop doing it! Some of the folks from JustinGuitar keep getting their videos blocked because they sound ‘too much like the original’, matter of opinion 🙄
Yes! I was hoping you'd do this one!
Oh. Re-uploading because it got blocked? That's not cool. I'm sorry you can't get anything out of it, aside from the sense of completion that causes bringing joy to others.
Thank you for the reaction... Please 🥺🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
React to Dimash new song "THE STORY OF ONE SKY"...
You will be amazed how much more his voice has improved 😌😁😁🙏🙏
Their first album, Slow, Deep and Hard, was one of the greatest debut rock albums of all time, IMHO.
Oh definitely... the dark humor mixed in with real emotions.. fucking phenomenal album.
It’s funny, cuz this song is usually everyone’s first exposure to them. After that, most people tend to like the softer direction they went after Bloody Kisses. But not me. I actually love SD&H the most lol. Their first 3 studio albums are my favorites, and in that order.
Carnivore was his second band (after Fallout) and there were a lot of tweaks you could hear in there pointing to what TON sounded like. Carnivore Retaliation is a hardcore masterpiece.
more nazi songs
Now you really must listen to the long version because there are examples of Pete's amazingly versatile vocal ability, first in the powerful controlled screamy growl "SHE WIIIIIIIILLLLLLL" that leads into the 2nd verse, then there's a verse that's left out completely, and after the "loving you was like loving the dead" line, he sings it again an octave higher and really belts it at first (this version I'm describing is a lot more fun to sing to) and it gets softer as it wraps up in a harsh whispered "was like f***in' the dead", which I just love, this band had such a great sense of humor. I am very lucky in that I got to see them live in concert 3 times. They're my favorite band and I love Pete and miss him every day 😥🖤💚🖤💚🖤💚 Glad to see yet another person enjoying his music for the first time. They're an amazing band.
You should listen to the entire Bloody Kisses album, if you get a chance. The full version of "Black No.1" is quite spectacular! They halved it for this music video you're watching.
MASTERPIECE album!!!
Indeed. Didn't get to hear Peter's fantastic scream of "She wi~~~~~~~~lll!!!!"
YESSS! Type O finally on the channel!
I'd love to watch you also react to Type O Negative's, "All Hallows Eve", "Creepy Green Light" and/or "Anesthesia"
I saw Type O Negative live 4 times back in the day. They are tremendous live!
I love the way you love music. You appreciate it for what it is. You aren’t pigeon holed into one style. I watch all your reactions, and thru your analysis and appreciation, it helps me expand MY appreciation for music that I would never have listened to on my own. Thank you for broadening our musical and vocal knowledge. You truly have a gift.
Lucky bastard!
Lucky lucky person you are
Seen tool 3 times back in the 90s , wish i would of seen TON instead . oh well maybe another life time.
yeah, pete was 2,03 meters tall and beast of a man. it posed no difficulty for him to hold this bass and play it with ease.
seen them live in 1997 and even on stage he was a huge presence.
Really loved your analysis of this song. I’ve seen others react to this but youre the first to point out and appreciate the little subtleties in the song like breadths, atmosphere fx and the “ooooh, oooh, ooooh” “ghostly” sound that Peter makes in the Loving the Dead section of the song. Part of what made his voice so unique was the fact that they were from Brooklyn, and they had some thick NY accents. That, combined with the exaggerated Vampire like accent he emphasizes, really pushes that vocal presence.
You clearly know a lot about music theory, and it shows in this video. Keep up the good work.
I saw Type O at a theater turn bar called New York Nights in 1993 around Halloween. Peter Steele (lead singer) was 6'8''. Absolute blast! 🦇🍁🕸🎃🎹🎃🕸🍁🦇
If you feel like doing a deeper dive into these guys, your next one needs to be "Love You to Death." Just make sure you do the official video if you do; the imagery is well worth a couple of longer passages (intro and bridge) that they truncated somewhat for the vid.
Great reaction, BTW.
This was by far the most in-depth and interesting analysis of a Type O song I've heard so far. Wow. Bravo very much!!
Best Type O reaction I've seen yet! The pure joy, glee & excitement you show listening to the band we all love so much! It's awesome. And you can tell it's genuine. And you add your own little flavor and opinion from your profession. I love it 💚🖤
If you ever have a chance to watch some of the old interviews, your brain just adds in Peters speaking voice to his singing one. I spent a few hours hanging with the band on their bus once, and the conversation was just ordinary stuff that I can barely recall, but the guys were so down to earth about everything that wasn’t their music, that to this day it is still one of my most poignant memories.
Your an absolute delight to watch. Love your reactions the most.
Thank you so much for listening to our requests! You see it was worth it, innit!
Flappity flaps mcflapson let's goooo
you are new to me, found you from the live stream you did with Julia Nilon. you seem awesome so subbed! also, this is my favorite Type O Negative song lol
She did a livestream with Julia? Dammit, UA-cam! There's no way that shouldn't have been in my feed!
Unfortunate that it got blocked, but hopefully with precautions in place it can stay up. I realize that no music reactors mean any disrespect towards the artists or their work. And didn’t anticipate the song’s many dark details would seem creepy, but then again if you’re someone who doesn’t partake of much horror, it makes some sense. In my book Type O Negative were the greatest Gothic metal band of all time. Happy belated Halloween. 🕯 🧛♂️ 🎃 🧛♂️ 🕯
Excellent Halloween suggestion and choice. Type O is it's own vibe, I saw them at Dynamo open Air Festival in Eindhoven 1997, Peter Steele was huge and had a great sense of dry humor.
And as always great reaction and analysis.
I still fairly new to your channel, but so happy I found it! Thank you so much for the premiere! Was awesome!
You definitely need to do some more Type O. ❤🤘🏻
I love your reaction. I did one of the same song a few weeks ago myself. ;) Peter was such an amazing guy. I love seeing others appreciate his talent and personality. Thank you!!!
Absolutely love how you repeat parts of the song every here and there when you want to emphasise something. Really shows how good your vocals are. Really cool. Cheers from a first time viewer.
Nice growl Lolli! I saw them at a small venue years ago and they were amazing. God bless your jovial energy. Keeps me coming back. 🤘❤️
Type O Negative has such a great portfolio of music. Well worth the time to delve into.
Thanks for the extra Halloween videos!
It's always tons of fun watching your reaction videos.
first time i saw one of your videos, wow I really love your enthousiasm!!! keep it up lass
RIP to the green man 🖤💚
A truly unique man with a fantastic sense of humour and love for his cats.
I always loved TON as they were very much a blending of classical music with heavy metal, and the late Peter Steele was such an interesting person. If you ever wanna check out another great tune from them, I highly recommend Love You To Death. But, being a vocal coach, you may try to review a live performance, and they have many great oive videos out there. Thanks for sharing! ~Be Blessed
Watching you enjoy one of my favorite bands is just 🥰🥰 you are adorable and I love your input 🖤🖤🖤🖤
I love the technical explanation of the techniques. Thank you!
Love Type O Negative heaps heh. Been listening to them for years. I would highly recommend Wolf Moon, In Praise of Bacchus, September Sun, Green Man and Anaesthesia. Keep up the great work and much respect from Australia
This was a very fun reaction video to watch.... youre so damn full of life!!! Had a smile the entire time watching 😊!!
I've seen a number of Type O reactions & analysis video's & yours is EASILY the most entertaining & insightful!! Wonder job, keep it up!! 👍👍👏
Love love your reactions, they make me feel good!
Loved your reaction. When you spoke about the value of other sounds adding to overall impact of a song the first thing I thought of was Suite Sister Mary by Queensryche. There's a wonderful live version that I think you would very much enjoy. There are several songs by Queensryche (vocalist, Geoff Tate era) that make the reaction circuit and for good reason. Most start with Take Hold of the Flame (impressive high notes leave most positively gobsmacked). Silent Lucidity is a lovely, warm ballad that accents Geoff's lower range. After that it's pretty much dealers choice and I'm sure the diehard fans will have plenty of suggestions from their hits or even deep dives. Tate's voice is pretty famous and historically respected so you should definitely not miss hearing him.💞🧚♀️
Let's be honest, can one even call themselves a reaction channel if they haven't done Take Hold of the Flame? ;-)

Seem that I have heard this sound before, the real enjoyment came from watching your reaction.
Yes, TON was an incredible band. The word "underrated" gets thrown around a lot today but that is a pretty much a perfect description for them. They made incredible music. RIP Peter Steele.
Fun to see ya having fun 😍💚
RIP Peter Steele. One of the all time great metal vocalists. May his music entertain generations to come.
takes me back to high school in the mid 90s!
You help me understand things I’d never thought I would... thank you so much😊
Fashionably late to this party... but have always loved Type O Negative, just putting up my hand for 'Love you to Death' a top quality production from Peter Steele and Type O Negative, would be another marvelous adventure into their vocals, instrumentals and visuals.
LOVE your reaction to this. Peter Steele was such an amazing composer and vocalist, and Kenny's vocals are wicked good too, and they work so well together. I miss Type O so much 🖤💚
Please check out Love You To Death and also September Sun - one of their later videos.
The best reaction ever!!! New subscriber. Looking forward to more of your videos. 🖤 💚
I've been listening to this song since it came out and you just astutely pointed out a whole host of things I never heard in it before, so yeah, I subbed.
fantastic!!! as usual!
I hope SO MANY kids are exposed to your teaching...my music teachers back in the day weren't always this positive, engaging or encouraging...just delightful!
I've loved Type O Negative for decades, but also I love you and how knowledgeable and authentic you are. Never stop being you. And keep doing metal songs!
Oh good! You did cover Type O Negative. I saw them w/ Pantera live in concert in the 90's. Good times.
Yes, been listening to TO- since probably before you were born. So great to see a young (educated) mind appreciate Peter Steele's brilliance. This interpretation was brilliant!
This is one of the funnest videos you've done just all kinds of energy and excitement. 😊😊
holy hell that takes me back 20 years...
Marvelous video and education. Thank you kindly.
I’ve listened to these guys so much and your analysis helped me to appreciate them on a different level. Watching your videos has been so amazingly helpful in my goal of singing rock/metal vocals. Your examples and technique “hacks” are so understandable. Pretty please will you analyze Ghost of Perdition by Opeth. The live at Red Rocks performance is outstanding. If you feel keen on adding another layer to the reaction, you could look at their earlier performances also and talk about how the voice changes with time and use/abuse. Great channel❤… more rock and metal please!!!
So glad you got a kick out of this song, it was perfect for Halloween! I'm not sure if you've listened to spiritbox yet, but you should check them out- Courtney is amazing- the live version of circle with me is the one. Also would love to hear your take on leprous- all of their songs show off Einar's amazing vocals, but I'm loving castaway angels the most at the moment. Much love!
just came to say, really enjoy your content! You have a wonderful mind and soul. Super cute and genuine humor in how you express yourself. You're just a delight and I'm glad to have come across your videos. It would be an honor to be your friend.
Damn, this video is very educational! And entertaining. :) Good job!
Excellent! Love Type O Negative, please check out “Love You to Death”.
You can run down such an amazing rabbit hole with Type O! I only got to see them once in concert before Peter died but it was amazing!
The studio version was MUCH better. Much longer but the scream at the beginning was absolutely epic.
I love your reactions, spooky or no you're great fun ☺️
Just watched your reaction video for Type o negative, Black #1, and I thoroughly enjoyed your take on my favorite band, well one of my favorite bands...so I subbed really quick...thank you...more type O please 🙏
Alright, I'm pretty sure I have my favorite reaction vid of all time now.
My massive 1-year long crush on Lolli

T.O.N being my favorite band ever since I was 13

I want to live inside this video and marry her by the end of it.
Exceptional reaction/analysis as always, honey bunny ♥🇧🇷
Nice to see a vocal coach understand the magic Pete is doing with his voice. Consider me subscribed!
Try the live version with the "scream" next time! SO MUCH better.
Im so happy you did this song! It's awesome. Keep reacting to these great songs. I appreciate it. This may be inappropriate but i love your sharp teeth..you have such a beautiful smile .😁😁😁 Sorry i couldn't resist...haha! Anyway keep up the great videos!! You do an incredible job..🙂
Most fun and watchable reaction to this song I've seen so far! God job... Mother(?). :)
I have been listening to this track for a long time, it was interesting to pay attention to the details
Love this song, so much fun.
Great song, RIP Pete. Also, really like the way you explain what happens within the throat. Helps dummies like me understand better 👍
Never was a Type O fan back in the day (to soft) but now you really enjoy it. Peter was a fantastic musican!
Please do a video of your reaction to Type O Negative "Love you to death". There is so much emotion in that song.
I saw them live in the 90's. They were fantastic. There version of "Paranoid" and "Hey Joe" are amazing.
Not much makes me happier than a professional appreciating stuff I’ve liked for decades, it validates me. Also helps that she is super adorable and sweet. 🥰
Type O is a lot of “tongue-n-cheek” lyrics. Been a fan since the beginning. Love it all. Great to see them in reactions.
I appreciate you're one of the most educational coaches doing react content. I'd love to see you react to Minami - Crying for Rain. She's a Japanese singer who uses some distortion and puts insane amounts of emotion into her voice.
I been feeling super nostalgic lately, and these songs…. Just missing it
Nice, glad you enjoyed it. RIP Peter, one of a kind.
This has to be the absolute cutest review of Type O Negative I've seen.
Your reaction is adorable
Love all your reactions, honestly the most eclectic vocal coach on the platform!
I would honestly scream if you reacted to Cecilia Bartoli singing "Agitata da due venti". Aside from the amazing virtuosisms, I would love for you to explain me what is going on in that amazing creature's vocal apparatus, beacause it's beyond my comprehension! Love you
She looks so happy doing what she likes
Please do more Type O!!
I just want to say that you are awesome! Your sense of humor, energy and insight! Subscribed! If it's not too much to ask, would you consider reviewing "In Praise of Bacchus" or "Love you to death" (from this same band). I am curious on your thoughts/reaction to the amount of track overlays, the various instruments used as well as the vocal range of the lead singer. Thanks so much!
Can't believe nobody has mentioned Nettie. The depth of the beginning is something to behold.
One of the best parts about TON fans is that they never gatekeep this band; they want everyone to enjoy it!
Great reaction. One of the original goth bands. They have a lot of great songs.
more type o negative! 💚💚💚
"Anesthesia" off the album "Life is Killing Me" is definitely a favorite of mine from Type O Negative, and recommend it for review...please.
There's two people singing this song: Peter Steele (lead vocals and bass) and Kenny Hickey (guitar, backing vocals (he does the "yeah you wanna go out cause it's raining and blowing", "dye 'em black", and the "loving you was like loving the dead". He also sings some of the "Black no. 1" parts alongside Peter near the end). Also the full song is 11 minutes long and more atmospheric so there's more to enjoy and the transitions to different parts feels less awkward than they do in the music video version
So cool seeing a first time reaction to a band I've loved for nigh on 30 years lol
There will never be another Pete Steele.
Have a ganders at the October Rust album if you've got that Type O itch.
I actually cannot remember what made me buy the album back then but I didn't regret it.
