I'm glad you were able to clean the TB by spraying at a distance. Sometimes they can get so dirty that you need to dip a brush in Seafoam and scrub off the sludge.

I had the same problem with my truck. just take off your throttle body off, and take everything off the throttle body and clean it.. if you clean it and put everything back on right, it will work great I promise you.

These older vehicles idle screws tend to wear down a little after years of being hit against by the throttle bracket. It only takes a slight adjustment to get it back into spec. And yes, cleaning the throttle body aids in helping the system correct for maladjustment, but reducing the amount of work it needs to do keep the engine running right could be a better option. When testing my '94 Dodge, even though it ran ok, the minimum air flow idle brought it down to ~300 rpm and almost stalled. (This was tested with a MT2500 scan tool). The correct minimum idle should be a lot higher (550-800), other wise your idle air bypass control motor has to swing to far to fast to make up for the air the engine is not getting from the throttle plate.

yes the tps sensor can get stuck. but usually stall low idle is caused by a stuck IAC valve from carb buildup. take it off, clean it with b12 chemtool, clean the valve seat. if you still have a problem, it’s probably the egr valve, stuck open.

Dirty throttle plate is a common problem, especially on this style air cleaner. Air box gets installed wrong, and or damaged gasket lets dirt in. It's best to shut off engine, open throttle plate and spray carb cleaner. Use a rag to clean, repeat till clean. Don't drown the engine with puddles of cleaner. Engine can be damaged. May have to hold throttle open to restart.

I replaced both idle control valve and tps, And still had erratic idle , I have a super chip on my truck and my buddy suggested that I disconnect that ,and see if it’s doing the same ... my issue was resolved now less 60 horsepower ... but I’ tell yah months of being pulled thru lights , high revving at light , having to turn engine off three four times at a light sucked ....mine would hold at 4000 rpm when I revved, I’m also thinking the plenum gasket is due and this spring I’m hoping to have it all straightened out .....

There's a grey gasket that sits on top of the throttle body that goes under the air box that will help dirt and debris stay out the throttle body and I'm sure it keeps air out also. I didn't see one on yours just thought it would help.

Just a question if you experienced this. My 5.2L runs fine cold. Starts idles and runs fine. But after it is warmed up after a slight 3 mile drive in gear it wants to stall. You can feather it and keep it running but a more than likely going to die. If you keep it running and you put it in gear and lightly bring it down (rpm wise) it can stay running and idle but not like it does cold. Any ideas let me know. Thanks.

If it stalls out after you rev it, or if you have to use the gas pedal to catch the rpms when they fall to idle speed.....but then can slowly let off the gas and it will stay running, then it's highly likely that you need to clean your Idle Air Control valve and throttle body, or your IAC valve might just be bad and need replacing. Both these things are relatively easy to do and cheap. Check out UA-cam videos on it.

I have one, pain in the rear. But I do know your speed sensor will mess that up if runs fine and instantly does in drive. But could also be torque converter ect. Problem with the tbi is if one sensor(i.e. coolant temp sensor) goes out it will mess up your idle or even no start. I've replaced almost every sensor, torque converter and runs fine cold, looping idle(like vacuum leak) warm. So I'm right there with ya.

Put a piec eof cardboard in the radiator space to block airflow. Had to do this in Northern winters occasionally to help it keep a good running temp.

@@collinwood6496 You may need a new thermostat

Nope. Already done. I replaced the thermostat, plugs, IAC, TPS, intake plenum gasket, intake gaskets. It's underpowered and has a little rough idle as well. Fuel pump was replaced by my dad before I got it. It's a 95 tith only 96000 miles. I'm going to replace the wires and replace the entire distributor. I know it's just shooting at stuff but it doesn't have an obd2 port and the only code coming back is the egr wich I deleted. Had the same problem before I got it too. My dad could never figure it out he said it just started being under powered. Might see if the cat is plugged with mud too. Eventually I'll spend the money on a diagnosis.

I have a Durango with a 318 and shes been sitting for a while and we things it's the idle air control and we thought it was a blown head gasket but the plugs weren't wet and there wasn't coolant on them so we dont think it's that and it smokes hella

Do you by any chance happen to have the diagram of the vacuum lines? I am having some issues with my 1995 Dodge Dakota V8 Magnum 5.2L (318) engine.
