Maybe neutral skinned would need sometimes touch of purple, when hair goes too brassy.

Great job, this video is beyond excellent!
I was thinking about going blonde few times, but when I think about Emily Blunt (which I found similar when it comes to skin tone etc.) I remind myself it's probably not the best idea. She is too beautiful to look bad in any hair colour, but I think she looks much better, fresher and younger as a brunette, and a little 'washed out', pale and tired in blonde, and probably I would get the same effect.
theworldisyours enjoy beautiful brunette! I loved mine but sadly I began to gray early. I cannot deal so I highlight w. Blonde. I’d otherwise be doing roots weekly. Sigh...

Extremely informative video! I finally realized that I actually am slightly more muted cool toned, since that gold jewelry/silver jewelry/ vein nonsense did nothing but confuse me. Thank you! Also realized why I used self tanner for so long in my past!
I’m in cosmetology school and I love your channel because of how detailed you are with skin undertones. I’m a nerd for this kind of information. I’m about to make a golden sun kissed blonde wig ❤️
Yes! It's always, is it too brassy or too dull and drab? Is it shiny enough? Does it need clarifying? Constant retouching of roots, the expensive hair products for blondes..I could go on forever.
Yes! I love how you say that dark blonde hair isn’t=brown hair. It’s not just about the lightness of the hair, but also the tone. There’s hair that’s darker than brown hair and it’s still blonde. There’s shades of blonde, that almost look black and shades of brown that are very light.
I‘m going fully blonde this week!🥵 I‘m from the middle east, but have pale skin and cold-ish undertone. You video just helped me so much!!! Btw: I‘m probably a 0/+1
L. Blues So, I‘m blonde now: My Eyes look sooo mich darker and the contrast within my face is stronger. Like, my cheeckbones are dominant now. My skin looks lighter, which makes me a little sad, since I have extremely pale skin. I‘m now at toning my hair with a greyish undertone, and that looks much much better!
Bleached hair three times and paid hundreds of dollars for nothinggggg. My hair refuses to lift past orange! Will officially quit burning my hair and embrace natural black hair 🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️
You have to tone your hair after bleaching. Especially if you have thick natural black hair. You should start with a 40 volume dev w/ bleach and a 20 or 30 volume dev/ with a toner
alexangel What she said. I have thick thick black hair naturally. It takes a 30 vol developer sometimes up to 4 times. The secret is washing it out quick enough.
I definitely recommend doing lots of research on people that specialize in changing hair color from very very dark to light and finding somebody that specializes in somebody that studied just on that
Shouldn’t be that orange after all that bleaching if the person does it properly. Sorry you had a bad experience. Changing hairdressers who knows how to tone it too will probably give you your desired blonde
I have olive skin and I love blonde hair but never dare to even dry cus I feel like it would make me look too yellowish and greenish. Not flattering at all. I tend to think the color of ur eyes can tell u which color can fit, and my eyes are brown with reddish hues and I noticed when i add auburn highlights it makes me look better
I really wish I could trust someone to take me to a nice Beyonce golden/honey blonde. there just aren't many stylists in my area comfortable with curly hair. Also, I'm so yellow idk if it'd look good.
I have curly hair that gets dyed and or bleached at least once a month. I also use olaplex no3 at least once every two weeks, my hair used to be so damaged and made me lose my curls before, but now I have them back!!!! it‘s the best thing ever.
Olaplex on Amazon isn't fake, it's sold by the Olaplex brand. The reason why some of the reviews are saying it doesn't work or that it's fake is because they didn't use the product correctly. If you leave the product in too long then you can damage your hair. No. 3 is a concentrate so you need to use it sparingly and not everyday or continously, it's meant as a short term treatment to rejuvenate the hair. If they follow the steps correctly in the instructions then they wont experience the issues they're experiencing. Also some of the customers reviewing probably have badly damaged hair and were hoping for a total miracle. Olaplex on Amazon is fine, the problem is that there are so many reviews, you're going to get bad ones when it comes to a product that requires a certain process for different hair.
Thank you so much for these videos. I’ve been wanting to change my hair color and it’s annoying when everyone is trying to be nice and say “you’ll look good with anything.” It’s also annoying how now people will get offended with anything especially when recommending someone’s hair color based on their skin tone.

Hello Aly, I really enjoy your content, and appreciate all the work, and passion you put into your videos. Would you be able to add more East Asian women examples into your future videos? Ignoring the troll in this comment section...do you have pics of Asian celebs you can send her? I think it's more of her working with what she can easily get. Unless you know what to type all she's gonna get are western Asian women who might be using a different style from women in say Korea. Maybe send her a few pics from various countries of the east and west.
People never believed me when I tell them I was born with dirty blonde hair my hair is dark brown now. In the summer it gets really light if I’m in the sun enough. People assume because I’m a mixed Black Woman that it’s impossible. Another issue I have is I’m black and I have an olive undertone so not only is it hard to find makeup but it’s also hard to find colors that work on me
I tried to tell my hairdresser to do the +1 balayage exactly like in the photo (dark root and light bottom) but she started too high and it looked horrendous (like I made I had horrible super yellow random hair) on my dark brown hair. I then asked her to do darker and I ended up with a caramel tone. The problem is still the top. The bottom has lovely shade but the top looks weird. I show her the pictures next time.
I am lucky I don't need to dye my hair anymore, I went grey but it is really white, great saving and better for my hair. I have naturally darker brows and hazel eyes with dark lashes and I am a theatrical romantic. Thanks for all your great videos
@Deb Barber same! I went natural 18 months ago. I was born blonde but got darker over years so I colored back to blonde. I never liked the color in my pics. My natural curly grey looks silvery platinum blonde and I get so many compliments from perfect strangers. I too have darker brows, green eyes, dark eyelashes. I'm cool undertone. The savings is great. Congrats on your journey!
Mounir is Lebanese not Turkish, he’s my hairdresser. And he’s very good, I have very fine hair and he wouldn’t take me platinum because it would damage my hair. But he used a technique to lighten my hair using baby lights and tape extensions. Barely any damage and beautiful golden brown hair
The closer to the natural hair colour - the better. There is no mistakes in our natural hair colour... So the best is what nature gave us.. Just my opinion. P. S. Aly is great!
Definitely mother nature knows what she's doing a lot of the time but sometimes a little change makes a big difference! I have verrrry dark brown hair and brown eyes and while I definitely couldn't pull off blonde (I know, I tried. I looked awful lol). I look warmer, and softer with a bit of red in my hair. It makes my skin look healthier and gives me a lil glow that I don't have naturally with my dark hair. I think my natural coloring was meant to suit someone with darker skin than I have but unfortunately I have very little to no coloring in my skin and I avoid the sun when I can so I look "hard" with my natural color
Elena Nedeva Natural or even if you want to go lighter the color you were born with. I had honey blonde hair as a child it’s turned naturally very dark now I am honey blonde adult à la bleach
I don't know what "contrast" level I am, because I don't think I understand the concept. Pale skin+pale eyes+pale hair = low contrast. light skin+ dark hair + dark eyes = high contrast. I get that. But, why is Dark skin + dark hair + dark eyes considered high contrast? I don't see the striking difference that is the definition of the word, contrast :(. I'm not sure if I am any of these and balayage does not suit me. Help?
My hair is naturally brown, but sometimes it looks so dull. For me the sunkiss jelly by l'oreal works wonders. It makes my hair dark blonde and it looks so natural and full of life. My skin is pale neutral and my eyes are blue-green.
If you did a video on subscriber submissions ( have them advice for their features ) I'd be super into watching that , you doing a makeover show would be amazing
i'd actually really love to see this cause i have black eyebrows, but i always wanted to dye my hair blonde. i'm just scared that it won’t look nice or normal because of my eyebrows 😔
I have dark eyebrows and I look ok. The important thing is the tone. There's cold and warm blonde. I've always dyed my hair warm (more towards golden/yellow) but I look better with cool tones (more towards silver/white) because I have cool undertone skin. So I'm gonna change tone now. I doesn't matter the ethnicity since some black girls look better with cool tones, others with warm tones. Also, depending on your base colour the result will be different and you'll possibly need more than one dye and decoloration (that will damage your hair). Go to a hairdresser if it's your first time, don't do that at home. Also, use Olaplex to repair the hair, I've heard it works. If you want to do it at home in the future, I suggest Wella or Majirel. Also it's possible you'll need an anti-yellow shampoo, be caferul, don't keep it too much time on your hair or they'll become slightly purple, to me it's a beautiful effect but maybe at work/school they won't like it 😂 also to repair the hair avoid shampoo with sulfates and use oils only with wet hair.
Keep your roots darker and lighten mids through ends, your brows will match your roots. There's a dozen methods to get there. If you try it yourself I'd lift all the hair. Then dye a demi shadow root. I've been lightening my hair for years now and I've always found it easier if you lift all the hair to same level and tone, then add the root color back in. Then you avoid trying to mix like 3 different color applications for all the different levels in your hair and trying to get it all the same tone. And as your roots grow out your demi shadow root fades and you can reevaluate and reapply in a few weeks.
I don't know why I watched the video... I have dark hair and do not ever intened on going blonde. Ever. And the only colour I do is red (with henna, so it gives a dark burgundy). And yet, I stayed for the whole video, because it was very instructive. Thank you for your in-depth explanation for all contrast types ^^
You have a true God given gift at this!... like kids that can just pick up a musical instrument and play it beautifully. I love watching you! I was a hairstylist for 15 years and loved it, but I got so busy that I got burned out. I am very creative so I am really good at it. I do not know if blond will look good on some dark haired woman, including myself. I would love to have you do this on me. I think that dark roots with ash blond would look ok, but I’m afraid to try it. I would love to have you tell me what glasses would look good. I feel like I might be too old to try certain styles.
The pictures are all young model looking women that look good in anything. I’d love to see everyday looking people of all ages . Thank you you are great 👍
Yeah don't hold your breath. Nobody cares about older and ugly women. We have to forge our own way. I don't like pretty people telling me what to do, anyway! 🤣
@@whoareyoutoaccuseme Ugly-ish woman here: With Aly it's kinda different because her channel is all about understanding and accepting how your body is and works. I do agree with the fact that she uses only beautiful models, but aside from that, Aly's explanations are by far the most "universal" ones I've seen on youtube. As in, she doesn't go "YOU'RE FAT. FAT UGLY. HIDE FAT" but rather "you have this complexion: you would look gorgeous with this but you may want to avoid this". I love love LOVE this channel because of that. Like, I always thought I had poor taste and that my body had a weird shape and It turns out I just had to make a few simple clothing choices and voilá. By the way, I was going to say I disagreed with the "beautiful people telling me what to do" thing bc I personally don't think she's doing that...but I just remembered I absolutely abhorre fitness bloggers because of the same thing lol. To each their own, I guess. I just wanted to point out what I said before because, well, at least Aly is trying and her work is great for that matter.
it doesnt matter what beauty standards youre at, shes only talking about your colour and tone of your skin and if you will look good with blonde hair, and even if you are bueaty stardards "low or regular", choosing the right tone and colour for you would perhaps even enhance your real beauty, as she noted with the caramel skin tone with the same hair colour will wash them out bring out the more yellow tones or blue tones where the face might not look complimented
Thank you Aly for this instructive video. :) I have a very pale and cold skin tone, either -2 or -1. As a child I was always very blonde but with age both my hair and brows got darker, I would say an ashy dark blonde shade. I miss my lighter hair so I make baby highlights in a cold blonde shade similar to the pictures at 3:35. It makes me keep some of my natural color but still gives my hair a much lighter impression. The result is very natural and I'm super happy with it. I love being blonde!
Natural silver, grey, or white, I find, is almost always supremely better looking /more beautiful that any kind of additive hair coloring. Not that color changes are always poor looking, but often, it's not as attractive.
Nordic Princess // The best bet would be for you to ask your stylist to make very minuscule changes to the color-stick with your natural hair color as a base, just have them play with the idea of “light and shadow” in your hair. It’s the most foolproof and easiest way to add depth and youth to hair. It’s very natural and mature, so from your description it’ll fit your age very well. Hope this helps!!
What about subtle streaks, like a coppery color just slightly lighter than your own color? Or a subtle balayage? I would stay subtle at first, until you decide if you like it. I love reddish brown hair with coppery highlights. It's like autumn fire.
You touched on this matter, but it should be emphasized that if someone wants to grow their hair long, it may not be possible to grow long because as it gets damaged from the bleach and dye, it needs to be regularly cut shorter to get the damage off. That's why so many women wear extensions: because they want long blonde hair. I heard a hairdresser say once: you can have long hair or blonde hair. I personally think one can get some blonde highlights without too much trouble, but it's best to do it AFTER one has grow their hair to desired length. Otherwise, it may never get to desired length! I also think it should be pointed out that once someone has dyed or bleached their hair, it never looks truly healthy or natural after and the observer's brain always associates healthy and natural with youth. Young women and girls (and even boy's) natural hair always has almost an inner glow to it and reflects light ever so subtly that can't be replaced. People never realize that a lot of makeup, cosmetic augmentations, and hair bleach/dye age their looks. If one truly does not like their natural colour then maybe the solution is subtle highlights rather than overall dye job. Please also remember that the videos and pics showing seemingly fabulous hair transformations at high cost salons, a few weeks later, the colour fades from washing and the sun and the person is simply left with dead-ends on the end of the hairs, damaged, dull, hair and the hairdresser gets a trip to Ibiza with your money!!
I love watching your channel! 💗 I have learned so much from you! Literally more than all of the books and magazines that I have read. I especially enjoy the ones that you talk about color theory. I never saw anything before about the black, gray, and white contrast, but it makes so much sense to me !! Thank you for your enjoyable and informative videos!!💖
I didn't hear you talk about neutral or natural blonde. I've tried ashy but my face looks greenish. I've tried strawberry blonde but my face looks pinkish. I look best with neutral blonde because then I can change my clothes to be warm or cool and switch lipstick and eye shadow. As long as I put on neutral or slightly cool foundation I can pull off most color clothes except for mustard or oatmeal beige which made me look deceased.
This was soo helpful thank you for taking your time to give us all of these examples and to teach I finally understand what I can do with my hair and what will look nice thank you!!

I’m olive skin with blonde hair (not naturally). I feel like I look horrible with brown hair and it washes me out/makes me look older.

Yes! I love how you say that dark blonde hair isn’t=brown hair. It’s not just about the lightness of the hair, but also the tone. There’s hair that’s darker than brown hair and it’s still blonde. There’s shades of blonde, that almost look black and shades of brown that are very light.
A separate video for medium brown skin would be amazing.

Didn't know. Thanks for letting know!
I have curly hair that gets dyed and or bleached at least once a month.
I also use olaplex no3 at least once every two weeks, my hair used to be so damaged and made me lose my curls before, but now I have them back!!!! it‘s the best thing ever.
@@mortalscumbrox5781 same situation! 😂
You can get Olaplex from Sephora
Are you reading my mind ?! I needed this !

People never believed me when I tell them I was born with dirty blonde hair my hair is dark brown now. In the summer it gets really light if I’m in the sun enough. I then asked her to do darker and I ended up with a caramel tone. The problem is still the top. The bottom has lovely shade but the top looks weird. I show her the pictures next time.

Every time I watch your videos, I am speechless. You are fantastic!
As a +1 +2 dark skinned woman, blonde is one of the least flattering colors for me. I can pull it off, but it takes too much work.
Everyone can look good in blond. It’s just that people do choose the right blond.
You should write a book Aly you do so much research and actually know what you’re talking about.

Elena Nedeva my natural color was a horrible ash brown. I look better in every other color I‘ve ever had (which is every color that exists lol)
Yeah, generally genetics make sense
Stephy2185
True, sometimes just a little tweak is necessary to give hair that extra shine. Goad you found your colour!
Also it's possible you'll need an anti-yellow shampoo, be caferul, don't keep it too much time on your hair or they'll become slightly purple, to me it's a beautiful effect but maybe at work/school they won't like it 😂 also to repair the hair avoid shampoo with sulfates and use oils only with wet hair.
nicg g tysm 😇💜
@@dn6457 don't buy olaplex on amazon though, there are people selling the fake version.
I have a good friend who has naturally blonde hair and naturally black brows, and it looks fine on her, so it'll probably look fine on you too
Keep your roots darker and lighten mids through ends, your brows will match your roots.
21:32 this is the most beautiful combination I've ever seen! Tysm for the amazing video
I don't know why I watched the video... I have dark hair and do not ever intened on going blonde. Ever. And the only colour I do is red (with henna, so it gives a dark burgundy).

Like, I always thought I had poor taste and that my body had a weird shape and It turns out I just had to make a few simple clothing choices and voilá.

it doesnt matter what beauty standards youre at, shes only talking about your colour and tone of your skin and if you will look good with blonde hair, and even if you are bueaty stardards "low or regular", choosing the right tone and colour for you would perhaps even enhance your real beauty, as she noted with the caramel skin tone with the same hair colour will wash them out bring out the more yellow tones or blue tones where the face might not look complimented

Yes please, do the bob haircut video!
all of her videos are of such interesting concepts i feel like ive started so many and then gotten excited and left and gone to another one!
Natural silver, grey, or white, I find, is almost always supremely better looking /more beautiful that any kind of additive hair coloring. Not that color changes are always poor looking, but often, it's not as attractive.
This goes for men and women, both.
Yay! A video about Bob haircuts is just what I'm needing at the moment! Thank you for creating such good videos, Aly!
Can you recommend something for a dark mahogany hair? I’m in my 40’s and need some highlighting. Looking for that “ youthful “ look .
Dyed hair video!! Red, pink, BLUE and green! And brows, matching?
