I feel really bad for the Sea Devils. They were overshadowed by the Master in their first story and then proceeded to appear in two of the most hated Doctor Who stories of all time. I hope whoever writes them next does them justice.
Legend of the Sea Devils is still way better than Warriors of the Deep. Doesn't make it great, but something I wouldn't mind watching every now and then.
I just adore how they redesigned them for 'Legend of the Sea Devils'. Possibly my favourite recreation of an Old Who design. The detail is exquisite, and I love the way they move. They're still quite camp, but the tone is shifted just enough to make them feel real, and equal parts majestic and threatening.
I remember watching The Sea Devils when I was a kid and the end of the first episode where the Doctor was being chased by a Sea Devil absolutely terrified me. I went searching for my mum upstairs but she wasn't there! I was in the house alone with a Sea Devil chasing me! Agh!!!!! I ran into the garden to escape and...oh... there was my mum putting the washing out. I was safe! I don't mind saying that on here. It's all part of the fun, isn't it? 😉
I like the detail of them giving the modern Silurians a distinctly intentional throat sac, like a frog, to legitimize the shape of their necks in the original story.
Because the human eye is actually very good at knowing the difference between something that is and isn't real. Yes, sometimes it gets tricked, but that's a compliment to the CGI at that point.
The Sea Devels aren't CGI. They've made lovely costumes. I don't think the masks actually move tho, so they probably added all the facial expressions with CGI, hence it might look a bit uncanny sometimes.
If the faces aren't CGI, then it's a fault of the costuming department, because they don't have any bumps and grooves to make em more realistic like the old ones do. The old ones may be outdated visually, but the new ones are a half step backwards.@@Didgeridoomen
13 regenerates into 14 - John Hurt is now the 9th Doctor, with Eccleston now the 10th Doctor, and David Tennant the 11th & 12th Doctor's (regenerated but kept the same face due to vanity issues), making Matt Smith the 13th Doctor. When the Doctor's contact the War Council of Gallifrey, John Hurt's Doctor says the following two lines: "Also the Doctor!" Later, when departing the Under Gallery, he says "For this moment, I am the Doctor again." Earlier, in the barn, Tennant's ahd Smith's Doctor's acknowledge that Hurt's character is the Doctor - "you were the Doctor when it wasn't possible to be the Doctor." And Hurt only agreed to play the role if he was an official numbered Doctor. So,John Hurt is the 9th Doctor.
Honestly, I'm glad they just showed up at all. I highly disagree with the idea that relying on nostalgia is a bad thing. I feel like some sort of stigma has grown against the idea because criticizing a piece of media for not coming up with something purely original is often seen as "independent" and thus "cool." But look at No Way Home or The Day of the Doctor, or (I hope) the upcoming 60th Anniversary Specials, in which I think my point is self-explanatory. Basically what I'm trying to say is that I found it very annoying when people were praising the idea for Series 11 of having no returning monsters. Yes, if those monsters were very unique and interesting, it could have made a very interesting Season, but especially in a show like Doctor Who, I feel like it's an incredibly risky, and just overall bad move to have literally no returning elements of the previous eras up here in any episode at all. The hardest part of introducing a new Doctor is convincing the audience that it's still the same character, and one of the best ways to do this is to have them run in to a previous companion or monster and recognize them. Leaving an entirely new cast makes us question if the new Doctor even knows what a Dalek is. I remember when there were rumors of the Sea-Devils coming back, I just wanted the rumor to be true even if the story was bad, because at least that would give me some small speck of feeling that this really was still Doctor Who. Apparently Legend of the Sea Devils was supposed to be an episode of the Original Series 13, but with the pandemic and Flux putting the original plans into a... Flux- It got pushed into a random "Easter Special" in the middle of 2022, despite having nothing to do with Easter whatsoever. 🙃

There does seem to be a very strong case for there never having been a good sea devil episode.

At least Legend of The Sea Devils wasn't flooded with the most irritating sounds known to Man.

@@Tabulatelk15 The ones from flux
Now they just need to redesign the human-faced Silurians.
Memories of the Master and the Clangers…
I was so glad the Sea Devils we're back in Doctor Who when it was revealed on New Year's Day! Now do Omega and the Rutans! 💙
Have the Rutans been in modern Who?
@@themannerchannel784 Only in the Adventure Games The Gunpowder Plot but not on TV.

I hope that performer crawling out of the ocean in the Sea Devil costume got overtime pay.
Remember guys, don’t let the swords touch your skin!
It's because the sword is laced with a toxic that kills you. So even a little nick would be fatal.
The Sea Devils (1972) is my favorite Third Doctor story! Along with the 3rd doctor as my favorite classic doctor overall!
I like the detail of them giving the modern Silurians a distinctly intentional throat sac, like a frog, to legitimize the shape of their necks in the original story.
Can't wait to see the 60th anniversary special soon
Classic Sea Devils awesome 💙 still remember watching it, a few years ago. Not airdate 44 lol
I’ll admit I love how goofy the sea devils look, and while I’m not too fond of the 13th doctor I do like that they still look as goofy as ever.
Why do I feel like the texturing on the old Sea Devil costume is better than that on the CGI replacement?
Because the human eye is actually very good at knowing the difference between something that is and isn't real. Yes, sometimes it gets tricked, but that's a compliment to the CGI at that point.
@@mattevans4377 yeah true, honestly I think they could have added bumps and grooves to the CG Sea Devils since they look so unnatural without wm

Every time a see Devil. I can’t help but sing Ocean man. Thanks to my friend who sang it during the classic story
The 5th battled samurai sea devils and nobody batted an eye.
I actually forgot about how bad the fight scenes were in the latest episode...
As opposed to the running away wearing a daft cape scenes ?

The original sea devils from the 70s will be remembered long after this recent CGI infested story is forgotten.
Honestly the choreography in the 70s was somehow much better
The original ones looked better and more scary
the sea devils shouldn’t have returned if they were gonna be in an episode like Legend Of The Sea Devils..
