One of my favourite Doctors. It's always a shame to me because having seen Peter Davison interviewed, he says he feels he didn't nail his take on the Doctor until very, very late on into his run. Just goes to show actors/creatives aren't always the best judge of their work. Even with the fact that his first stories were filmed out of sequence, he had his Doctor down from minute one of 'Castrovalva'. A very underrated story, and an underrated Doctor.

agree totally and that's why actor's shouldn't be given too much clout when it comes to creative decisions on script, the look of the show etc. An example is Janet Fielding, precisely what she hated about the show is exactly what kept me hooked on the show as a teenager when it was being broadcast!.

@@anon5263 Actually you did bring all those issues into play with your comment. Those are logical assumptions to make considering that people of colour aren't going to complain about finally being represented on the show, and neither are those in the LGBT community. Those who are part of those communities want to be included and only someone who doesn't like those people would complain about their inclusion. Back when Doctor Who started minority groups had absolutely no positive representation at all. It was illegal to write about LGBT characters and people of Colour were invisible except when they were victims of violence or ridiculed. Can you imagine what it feels like to never see anyone like yourself represented? Now you are complaining that not every story is about someone like you. Doctor Who was originally about educating it's viewers about history and that's exactly what episodes like "Rosa" do. You don't want to hear about it because it's about someone other than you and that's just intolerance. You don't complain about stories about Shakespeare, or Dickens or other White historical figures, just about history that features minorities. Instead of whining you should pay attention and maybe learn something about someone other than yourself. Everyone deserves to see stories about people and events that are important to and about them and the world is made up of many different types of people. The show has changed as the world has changed and you have to move forward with it. Wanting to remain ignorant about history and people who are different than you just stops you from growing and learning. You also have to understand that your opinion is only your opinion and not fact. Not everyone thinks like you and just because you don't like something it doesn't mean that everyone agrees with you. Everyone has different tastes and art is very subjective. Just because you don't like something doesn't mean that the person who wrote it isn't talented, it just means that it didn't appeal to you. The person wasn't hired to write specifically for you so that doesn't mean that they failed to do their job or that they have no talent. Thinking that everyone else in the world thinks like you and thinking that everything has to be about you and not wanting to be exposed to anything that's about someone or something unrelated to you is the root of intolerance and bigotry. You need to be more open minded and tolerant. The world would be a very boring place if everyone was the same and Doctor Who deserves credit for allowing everyone to feel like they are represented in the show.

The hardest part of playing any doctor, is the post regeneration sickness. Because each doctor would have the difficult task of playing both their predecessor and themselves. @davidaston5773 2 роки тому +18

Exactly. All the Doctors who followed Tom Baker and later Tennant at the time were unfairly judged against someone else.
When they're viewed on their own terms? You see how amazing the show was in literally rebooting itself (as it would be called now) with great casting each time.
Problems with their eras were usually due to production or BBC politics.

To be fair to Jodie, even if it had been a man the show would've got the same views because ever since Smith the BBC has damaged the show.
Gaps in seasons. Half seasons. And treated in such a way as making it seem less important to the public?
      2023? RTD's own company isn't it?
Doctor Who as a brand doesn't need the BBC.
It's up there with Star Wars or Star Trek in terms of how iconic and world wide it's known.
I wouldn't be surprised if Disney buys Doctor Who in future.

The show really began its steep downhill decline during Tom Baker's final season in the role under John Nathan-Turner's direction, which further accelerated throughout the 80s until the show was finally cancelled in 1989.
The Doctor Who character and franchise effectively ended with Tom Baker 1981, as he was never properly replaced, nor was his former producer Peter Hinchcliffe.

I personally recommend getting "The Doctor Revisited " my local library had them. The first collection is doctors 1-4, then 5-8, and the last was 9-11 (idk if they've done more since, at the time it was up to date)
Each disc is dedicated to each doctor, does a sum up that doctor, their companions, villains, monsters. One ep of each doctor (so the ENTIRE 8th doctors film)
It's a good foot in the water.
If you aren't familiar with old shows and their speed (or lack there of) then I'd recommend starting with the revamp (doctors 9 on). If you like it, go back and watch the classics. I think I started the classics before the 12th doctor? I watched all of the classics my local library had available. I also printed off the entire wiki page of doctor who to keep all of the episodes straight and make sure I was watching them in order.

@UCGbqXzaqzL7AzjQLWG94vqA the show started at 1963 and ended at 1989. About 20 years pass, and it gets a restart. I'm joking at the concept of super hardcore fans (trust me, you're not one. Check out Tumblr hardcore Dr Who fans. Ignore the sane ones) mourning about the fact how there could be more episodes crafted between "old school Dr Who" and "modern Dr Who".
On an unrelated but amusing note, if seems I wrote "Dr Who" enough times to trigger the autocorrect algorithm, and now it also suggests "Dr Why" and "Dr What"! 😂

Did the Doctor's clothes shrink during regeneration ?😂. Peter Davison is a much more slender build than Tom Baker and less tall, yet he is able to wear Tom Baker's Dr Who uniform as if it had been run up for him by a tailor on Saville Row.

The success of "Star Wars" doomed the Whoniverse to first decline, then, irrelevance. The BBC's budget for Dr Who ran to tin foil and lip gloss, but little else. Certainly not the kind of cutting-edge special effects the show needed to keep pace. This episode is both watchable and bearable now as kitsch nostalgia, but, at the time, when I first watched it, it was just cheap looking and iredemiably old fashioned.

Love 5 and I’m not a hater but this is one of the most boring first stories in the series. They spend an episode building a cabinet. Then they spend an episode carrying it around. The doctor must face the terror of a confusing town map. Directed like a provincial soap.

    “ TEGAN! What's the matter? The Master's TARDIS. “
“ Ah. You've come to help me find the Zero Room. Welcome aboard. I'm the Doctor Or will be if this regeneration works out. “
“ ADRIC! That's the trouble with regeneration, you never quite know what you're going to get. “
“ Dear me. Needs a drop of linseed oil though. “
“ Oh no, you can't escape, you're mine Adric, MINE! Until we have completed our final task. “
    “ THAT'S IT, THAT'S THE DOOR! “
“ Event One. A trap, Adric said. This is a time machine. And where traveling backwards in time! Back to first event! The creation of the galaxy out of a huge in rush of hydrogen. We're heading straight into the biggest explosion in history! Farewell, my friends. Farewell, forever! That face, I hate it! We must do something. There's only one thing we can do. and? That's all. “
“ NOOOO! You must control these dangerous emotions Adric, they're only causing pain, besides interfering with the reception. Now ... CLOSER!! “
    “ GO SOFTLY ON!!! “
“ Smoke! Heat! And noise! Adrenaline! Neuropeptides! The brain is working! Neuropeptides, what's he talking about? The excitement's changing his biochemistry. It's only temporary but perhaps he can help us. We must take him back, it's not safe. But the Doctor's our only chance, unless we can find some way of getting the temperature down. Manual override, Nyssa. I'll have to explain how to vent the thermobuffer. Listen very carefully, my concentration may go again at any moment. “
“ That's it. We need to take him somewhere uncomplicated. Somewhere away from technology. “
“ Closer boy ... I must see him, HEAR HIM! no. No! So Doctor, you have survived. But at what cost I wonder. “
“ So, this air hostess person's flying it eh? Well I wish her the best of luck. “
    “ Touchdown! We've made it. We've made it! “
    “ Doctor? Blood ... He's gone! The Doctor's gone! “
    “ Doctor. Everyone's looking for him. “
“ One ... Two ... Good day ... .One ... Two ... No, no, no, no. One! ... Two!... Three, sir. What? Three, sir, is what comes after two. Do you know that's exactly what I thought? And then four, and then five, and then six, and then seven ... Stop! Please, you're making me dizzy. We'll have to give you a badge for mathematical excellence. Adric. Adric! “
“ Recursive Occlusion! Someone's manipulating Castrovalva! We're caught in a space time trap! “
“ Now, the library, the square, the Portreeve's house. Now, where's your pharmacy? Up here, sir. And down here. And round here. And along here also. Four pharmacies in a small place like this? No, sir. I have but one. You positioned it four times. It may be approached, sir, by many different routes. “
“ A trick! The Doctor's here. Are you sure of that, Master? Enough of your deceptions! Where are you? I'll fetch you out wherever you are. “
“ Yes, a trap has now been sprung. We can begin to dispose of all the bait. “
“ Shardovan, get back! Don't touch the web. It's holding Castrovalva in balance. You do not have the will! You made us, man of evil, but we are free. My web! My web! The Master! Look! The fireplace. It's his TARDIS. “
“ My web! Goodbye, Doctor. Bring it to me, boy. My web! Doctor, quickly, we've got to leave before it closes again. Doctor! Adric! Please hurry! Mergrave, we have got to leave. No! You can't beat me! Traitors! “
