My dad lived in Richmond,VA and spoke to Ali while leaving a restaurant. When my dad moved to Chicago, Ali was in Washington park and recognized him. Even told him where he had seen him before. Awesome dude!

Great story. I was plucked out of cali and spent 2 and 3 grade being bused into a different school zone in Louisville. During a school assembly Ali showed up because some of his nephews and nieces were there. I was the token cute white kid on the front row. He looks down during q and a. Says You....you down there. Mickey Mouse....what's your question? I didn't understand the gravity at that age. But I do now.

This is a true story: Muhammad Ali was on a flight in the United States. As the plane was taxiing to the end of the runway, the Flight Attendant reminded him to fasten his seat belt. "Superman doesn't need a seat belt," replied Ali. "Superman doesn't need a plane either", replied the Flight Attendant. The world heavyweight boxing champion duly strapped himself in. Were YOU that Flight Attendant? 🙂

    • @lordrayden9111
      @lordrayden9111 4 роки тому +3

@David McFrost Just look at your crap triggered essays, everyone knows who is the keyboard warrior here. And he didn't abandon your Jesus, he just found the right path. The right way. And all his glory came to him not as Cassius clay, but as "Mohammed Ali". Because of that right path he chose. He was never segregated racially in Islam. He lived and died as a good man, like how a Muslim should be. Dogs bark at the moon all the time, but moon will always be majestic and it never fades, that is the analogy between you and Mohammed "The greatest" Ali.

Met Ali at the very first Wrestlemania. He was leaving Madison Square Garden, in his limo and the vehicle stopped for traffic.
Not being sure who was inside me and my sisters walked up to the limo, the window came down, and there was Ali and a few others. I yelled "CHAMP!" and he smiled. I was wearing my Giants football hat, handed it to him with my sharpie and he signed the bill "Ali"
I screamed THANK YOU and he said "be careful going home kids"

The conversation was supposed to be about a production prop I had made for the show. Ali didn't care about that. He wanted to talk about my personal history and some of his own. One of the best speeches I've ever heard. Every person on this planet needs to listen to this eulogy. It resonates on what is wrong in the world. Being Jewish myself I've been exposed many times to prejudice, but never could figure out why others resort to it. Billy Crystal's words spoke volumes on how we all should act towards one another. Muhammed Ali's greatness is not only being the best boxer of all time, but someone who was stripped of his heavyweight title and then became one of the most revered humanitarians ever.

He rose above it and for that he deserves a louder applause than when he won the thing.

When the Americana Hotel in NYC opened, I was 10 years old. My dad, a cab driver, took me downtown to see the opening. Each floor represented a different U.S State. A little crowd was formed outside the hotel and there he was, Muhammed Ali. I'm short and like in the movies, my eyes went slowly from his shoes up to the top of his head, my dad and I went up to him, I put my tiny hand into his huge hand and he graciously shook it, said hi, shook my dad's hand. We stepped back and just watched him. He was happy, laughing, signing autographs, and he totally impressed me with his charm.

The answer is not at all, when Donald Trump dies there will be people who say that he was the greatest president ever. Hell, he's not even dead and they are already saying it but just cause a few hundred or thousands of people say it, doesn't make it so. Don't hate the man (Ali) but I do hate that they still say he was the greatest of all time, when he wasn't, he was very, very good but far from the greatest.

    • @kybelian

Dennis Robertson Muhammad Ali is the Greatest. He was the ONLY Heavyweight Champion of the World! That meant he was known and recognized on the streets of every capital and major city on earth not just the USA and Europe.
No other person comes close except the Queen of England, Princess Diana....
But the word fighter if left to boxing would be too small. The fight he fought gave courage to punks like Donald Trump to be able to resist going to Vietnam.
He was willing to pay a fine and go to prison for his beliefs. Give up fame and fortune.
He did not depend on a deferment like punkass Donald Trump or Dick Cheney. He did not run off to Mexico like John Wayne did to avoid WW2.
Vietnam was an unjust war based on lies and racism. There are entire high school classes of boys drafted and dead. There are homeless shelters full of Vietnam era vets. I know firsthand because I was in one of them.
Ali stood up and sacrificed himself and this was important to eventually bring an end to what essentially was another opportunity for the USA to mass murder Asians defending their country.
What you wrote about Trump is worthless nonsense. Shows what a threat the USA has become for having so many ignorant people having too much power.
The only people who will call Trump the greatest will be clueless Users who voted for him. There will be no such sentiment coming from South America, Africa, Asia and yes Europe..especially Britain.
Heavyweight champion because he fought for the little people and spoke truth to power against men too afraid to go against him one on one.

If this is the case, then your god is an unthinking horrible god. What we need is a god that just decides on who is good and who is bad as to whether they go to heaven. If the ten commandments are the benchmark then very few people would go, that's for sure.

As a UK citizen he is one of the most American brilliant comedians I have come across over the years, Alan Alda in M.A.S.H being the other. American humour is different from the UK because we do not always know who they are impersonating, but in this case we do. He is a credit to the US, haven't laughed as much in a long time. God rest Ali and well done Billy C.

Nigel Cross .. it's funny that u name 2 people that I've heard Americans don't like the most, but I guess it's half way, I'm not sure. I never really liked Alda's comedy, but I like the man. I like them both myself, Crystal has done more, that I Remember.Anyway. Js.. RIP MR Ali

I miss Muhammad Ali. In a world that needs so badly to have a champion, there are since he left, simply none to be had.
I don’t like living in a world without him.
He was and is The Greatest.

"The most famous Muslim man in the world honoring his Jewish friend." Profound respect for a fellow human being, particularly in light of the current, mindless hatred and intolerance we see today. Wow.

It's a quote from Billy Crystal's speech, describing a time when Muhammad Ali went to Israel to honor his Jewish friend who was receiving an honor.

Honestly, one of the greatest memorial speeches ever, and yet, you have 3 thousand 3 hundred dislikes??? Just shows, that no matter what greatness is shown, you cannot change the heartless hearts of negative haters.

I was at The Rustic Inn Crab House in Dania, Fl in the early 80's. Ali was eating with his wife and the waitress asked my mom if I wanted to meet him. I really did not know who he was as I was like 9 years old. He tapped my cheek with his fist and told me to eat my vegetables, lol.

Kudu's to Billy Crystal for a personal, memorable and
magnificent tribute to an American: boxer, olympian, athlete, civil rights icon and legend who transcended sport , political, racial, religious and national boundaries.
