An era of comedy gone forever.
And no use of the F or N word... pure talent
bring it back!
@@ImMrEm PC movement ruined many numerous things.
Sadly so
These roasts were probably the greatest assemblage of talent that could ever be.
I am 68yrs old.. I lived through the greatest times.. I wouldn't trade the years I lived through, for nothing in the world.. I am blessed... Dean Martin, the roasts, his Dean Martin show, all the best entertainment there was
Yes agree, those were wonderful times. Im blessed to be part of an era we will never see again.
I've got a few years on you and totally agree.
I’m with you on that one
You and me both brother.
That's sad.
All gone but never forgotten. No four letter words. Proves you can be classy and funny at the same time. Wonderful entertainment.
YES! Well said!
A class act
Mark Spitz is still alive.
These Roasts were the greatest ❤️
Comedy at another level.
And always clean.
These guys were top notch ....all the greats ..
OMG - Dean - "You aint reached that year yet"
Awww...thank you Jerry! 😂😂
😂
I burst out laughing at that @marcghiggeri4965 😂🤣
I didn't see that coming...!😂
Dean was the best, They all were! can you imagine a politician doing something like this now?
I met Mr. Rickles in Atlantic City in 1994. I was there for a convention, and we got tickets to his show. We were able to score a stage side table, and before the show started Mr. Rickles came down and sat with us for a few minutes. He was extremely nice and personable. He loved it when he found out we were all veterans, and he ended up pulling one of the guys up on stage for one of the skits during his show. It was a wonderful experience, and we will never see entertainers like him again.
True classics, true comedians, true talent... The best of times!
I've watched this three times and I am still laughing. 😊
The great masters of comedy.
Dean was GOLD MEDAL good on these Roasts.
2:01 "Thank you, Jerry." Devestating!
The comedic timing of these guys playing off each other is perfect.
"Thank you Jerry!"
I first this bit about 15 years back. Till then only knew Rickles for Kelly's Heroes, seeing this bit made me a fan forever.
These roasts were epic. The comedy is top notch and its clean. These were very much appreciated in the 1970s. Great fun!!
I'm 67 old bullrider ANC my parents were ftom the depression. We laughed everyday on im my childhood and made me a good old bullrider with and education and a great sense of self and life amen
Hollywood at it's zenith...when it truly was a galaxy of extremely talented and accomplished stars and was utterly unmatched.
What a great treat to watch them after all these years..No show today could match this one in terms of star power, charisma and actual talent..not a single profanity.
R.I.P to every one who was on the stage.. Always missed but Never forgotten
a time when people didn't have to worry about being burned at the stake for being not politically correct.
I'm 73 yrs old and I think the world was best during late 50s to early 80s. I loved every moment of that era.
His bit at Reagan's second inauguration is comedy gold.
Made Dean Martin actually spit take. 😂
It’s amazing that these people could be so funny without ever curse, not a word.
Dean is so lit rn lol
Rickles' comb-over starts at his left ear. 😂😂😂😂
Leslie Townes "Bob" Hope was born on May 29, 1903, in England. His father was a stonemason and his mother a light opera singer. The Hope family immigrated to the US in 1908.
Emigrated
You know it's funny when Dino spits up his drink.
the room is all class❤
"Thank your, Jerry". 😂😅
Please explain for us young ones that dont get it
@@restinpeace8263 *Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis were a comedy and film duo in the 1950s, until they had a falling out. They managed to reconcile just before Martin died in 1995. So here, Rickles was busting Martin's chops by calling him "Jerry" after Martin zinged Rickles.*
Best Don RIckles roast. Frank Sinatra and Ronald Reagan are close second and thirds.
One of the other ones that I have not been able to find again Woyce Ruth Buzzi roasting Muhammad Ali and hitting him with her purse. That was one of the funniest things I think I’ve ever seen. I think that’s the one where she gave her number to a guy in the audience.
Tom Dreesen always said that Dean had the best quick wit of the Rat Pack.
I remember when these first aired. My parents, sister and I were in stiches every time. This was the best of the best. No talent of this caliber has, nor will, ever done better. This was the pinnacle of Hollywood and America. Everyone had a sense of humor and being "offended" had not yet become a job skill.
Don't kid yourself. Some of the later roasts were absolutely *brutal* compared to this! Have you seen how Chevy Chase was *obliterated* at his, years after this?
Rickles wasn't the greater because "everyone had a sense of humor back then & knew how to take a joke." He was the best because he was the best.
"being offended" is apparently a job title nowadays. what surprises me is that the younger people (i'm 60 yrs. old) are offended by "all in the family."
I'm thinking this was some time in 1972. I see Mark Spitz (Summer Olympic champion) there. Ronald Reagan was CA Gov. 1964-72. Jack Benny died I think in 1973.
Mr. Benny died in 1974. 🙏✡️🕯️💔🎤🎭📺
I wish we could have great shows like this. Rickles even roasted Billy Graham!
Omg really awesome humour ...ain't nothin to compare..miss these days sooooo much.
Thank youu Jerry, great line.
Hillarious as always 😂😅❤❤
I'm so old I GOT the 'Evel Knievel' reference...
lol…I’m with ya.
Me too
Me three!
It was awesome
How old would one need to be to get that reference? I'm 42 and know full well who Knievel was. It's not hard to gather pop culture knowledge.
He calms down again. He really does.
Those were the days my friend! Thats Entertainment!
I’m in my 50s and I think he is one of the greats and those days are gone forever.
can you imagine these classic comedians hearing today's standup?
Good Ole Years
A generation of entertainers who knew their job was to entertain, not preach.
Perhaps we will someday once again have such nice things.
Don Rickles a true great
they dont have comedians like this any more..
Great comedians!
From that intro, I think Dean got into the high-proof drinks early. As to the flag, Bob's birth flag would have been British.
Wow! THAT was a top-brass roast!
All the great ones are hone. Rest in peace.
Rickles was always good. But Milton Berle had to get his mug in. Whenever Uncle Miltie was guesting on a variety or talk show he would always interrupt the headliner to get attention. Jerry Lewis was similar.
All Jewish citizens.
Which is why all those shows were so funny!
You're exactly right
King of cool I love it
GREAT STUFF
You would enjoy the evening, if you knew you were here 😂
These guys and gals are all class. I dont think you could have a show like this on TV these days.
Love watching this
I love this-hate that it was cut with the comment about Sugar Ray........
I really miss this show….they look like they are having soooo much fun……
1:37 - 2:02 is the best exchange ever in the roasts.
People with a sense of humor
Wonderfully funny 😅Why can't people (politicians & celebrities) laugh at themselves anymore? It's become a sad strange world.
these were all fake--just actors--most hated each other, phony laughs--just a fake show=it was staged--they all knew each others lines and practiced beforehand
He was the best ever
Even though Bob Hope was born in England he definitely became a great American and one of the most loved Americans ever.
😂 thanks Jerry
In a lot of ways I miss the 70s.
We all do.
At 1:02, they edited out the remark that Don said to Sugar Ray Robinson; I guess they felt that it was offensive.
Don: "It takes many years to be a great comedian. 😇"
Dean-o: "Sure does, and you ain't REACHED that year, yet! 🤨"
Don: "Uh...thank you, _Jerry_ [Lewis]. 😏"
Anyone who asks, "When was America ever great?" Direct them here.
Greatest comedian of all time. These are real roasts.
Sorry, this guy is not funny
@ there’s other better ones. I suggest the one when Frank Sinatra replaced Johnny Carson for a show. It’s one of his better!
@ ua-cam.com/video/95MSH4ywMSc/v-deo.htmlsi=0stl3WPxMn9qPVHO
I love Dino, From Brasil 🇧🇷
Bob Hope, an Englishman.
Neil, you’re down!
You can lead a horse to Don Rickles but you can't make him laugh 🐴
The horse or Mr. Rickles?
Very surprised to see Neil Armstrong there. He was a very modest man and tended to keep a low profile.
Mark Spitz is the only one left. In 2025, he’ll be 75.
Two months after this clip was filmed, Jack Benny was dead.
I wish we could return to these times😢
The GOAT
Actually, Bob Hope was born in England.
So was America
Dean was not really drunk just a great actor and singer .
Dean looked bloated during these roasts .
You base that theory on what? His red countenance?
This was a golden time in hollywood. They don't make people like this anymore
when roasting was an art....
Wow😅😅😅just wow.😊😊😊😊
Feels like yesterday…
Dean is primed lol
It makes me sad that all of these people are dead.
@ 3:13...
General Omar Bradley was there, George Patton's boss...Wow!...👀...
It was the best
Funny without being vulgar
Rickles could take it as well as he could give it.
Don rickles,Tim conway,Rodney dangerfieldand George Carlin I loved them all what a linup❤
Left out the Nipsey Russell bit that Rickles did.
thank god
Mon oncle le meilleur sur terre, paix à ton âme
"Governor Reagan is going to retire". Yeah, about that...
This is when men were men, and they were cool as hell. Confident, brave, handsome, and able to take a joke.
I miss the good sod days when people could just have fun and bring offended was not a thing.
Why did you cut out the part where Rickles made fun of Sugar Ray Robinson? Are we really so sensitive these days? Making fun of people because the way they talk or walk or sit...it's not anything to get upset about and besides, all these people are dead.
Everybody knew how to take a humorous slam all the way back then. Miss those days, today's humor doesn't even come close! It either has to be politically correct or politically evasive.
They were giants in their days....
