I am watching this 11 years later, and my heart breaks for Kevin. He’s just been going through an acrimonious divorce and child custody case and it breaks my heart to see such a good man, a really good man, tossed aside, because he’s no longer “good” enough. I think it's beautiful, but I also can imagine that his wife (soon to be ex-wife now) HAD to have felt some type of about a statement like that at the time. 😬

When God gives you the opportunity to connect with someone it is celestial and lasts forever, be it whether you meet for a season, a reason or a lifetime. With every sentence, as he spoke along, it felt like he was ready to burst into tears. A strong feeling of deepest respect for Whitney in his voice. That was a perfect tandem.
I’ve watched the movie “The Bodyguard” many times, and just as I felt the strong and powerful on-screen chemistry that Whitney and Kevin both shared, I feel it again as I watch this eulogy. I can tell that their relationship was very close, very real, and very passionate. So close, in fact, that it saddens me that they didn’t choose to pursue it further after the film completed. They would have been a true power couple, in every sense of the word, and I truly believe that Whitney would have gone on to be even more successful. There were a lot of people who criticised Kevin Costner after the funeral. When Princess Diana died, every celebrity who had ever been in the same room as her, claimed they were best friends. Kevin Costner is the only celebrity who refused to talk about her. He only expressed his sadness over her death and refused to turn mourning into a PR exercise. Here, he did the same. He talked because he was asked by Whitney's family and it was a beautiful eulogy. I think Kevin Costner has a lot of class and integrity.

I never heard this, this was so deep and personal. You can genuinely feel how this man loved and cared for her. I think if she had allowed him to play a bigger part in her life he would have been and she would still be here with us. I always loved him, this man is a true class act.
I'm still intrigued as to why Whitney's mum and aunt asked Kevin to speak. They must have known Whitney had a more then ordinary connection with Kevin, couldn't find anything on Cissy or Dionne talking about kevin in any interviews.
@@TheFailedmessiah He never had an type of security or military training for them to consider wanting him to be her "bodyguard" I think it had more to do with the fact that he himself vouched for her for the role when everyone was dead set against it when they had acclaimed actresses waiting to audition for the role. She had no actor training under her belt and The bodyguard was her breakout role that solidified her as an "actress". They asked him to speak because he did have some affections for her that grew over their time of filming but being a good man he was married and so was she so he respected those boundaries and never allowed anyone to take advantage of her.

He paid the tab for a bunch of my Army friends and I and talked to us for a little while. he was far more interested in what we did in the military than talking about himself. This was in 1997 and he was just a nice guy that you could picture yourself hanging out with from time to time.
I meet the guy who did the props and everything in dances with wolves he said Kevin was a total asshole and wanted his way but you know what it's his opinion Kevin is a wonderful actor and singer plus after this he is kind hearted and don't mention he helped build the oil thing for the oil spill that tells you something Kevin who cares what your so called not fans say it's there opinion we love you keep it up.

And sometimes its just bad timing too and many other reasons, its sad but thats life, and a lot of people fail to see who was really there for them and who cared for them the most. in Kevin and Whitney's case I think it was just bad timing and if they had met say 5 years before and both were single, things would have been different. But youre right, i think these 2 were perfect together, and i think it would of been a match that whitney's family would truely embrace seeing as they were both quite religious and grew up in the same church.

I just recently watched a documentary about the making of “The Bodyguard.” The fact that Kevin Costner wanted to wait a year for her availability was just amazing. Who does that for a “black”singer in her first acting role. Kevin and Whitney connected and they had great chemistry on and off screen. What a sad day when Whitney left us. I watched this speech back in 2012. To this day it still gets to me. Kevin really loved Whitney! He waited a year for her, he was there for her every step of the way, never let her fall and he was the one who chose I Will Always Love You for the film because he saw her potential and knew she could do it. This beautiful eulogy is a symbol just how special she was to him and how deeply he felt for her. They were a beautiful couple on the screen. I truly believe that there was something between them. This is an example of what a beautiful friendship and love looks like.

I watched her whole funeral. Bawled my eyes out. And then Kevin came on. I was almost uncontrollable. Not only did he pay such a beautiful tribute to her, but I've always loved him anyway. And this just reiterated why.
Tragedy that she was already messed up on drugs. No matter how much he might have wanted to that was something no amount of love can fix. It saddened me that she endured such abuse in her personal relationship.
I look a Kevin differently now. When he told the story of how everyone wanted him to pick a white singer for the movie and he refused. And than they said she couldnt do it because of touring and he made them wait a year till she was available. He really meant that when he said she was only one for the part. I could tell he saw her for who she really was and not what shr was portrayed in the media, he really cared for her and it showed in that eulogy.

I’ve watched the movie “The Bodyguard” many times, and just as I felt the strong and powerful on-screen chemistry that Whitney and Kevin both shared, I feel it again as I watch this eulogy.
I can tell that their relationship was very close, very real, and very passionate. So close, in fact, that it saddens me that they didn’t choose to pursue it further after the film completed.
They would have been a true power couple, in every sense of the word, and I truly believe that Whitney would have gone on to be even more successful.
More importantly, her self-confidence and self-esteem would have skyrocketed, with a man like Kevin by her side, believing in her and encouraging her the way he did.

There were a lot of people who criticised Kevin Costner after the funeral. When Princess Diana died, every celebrity who had ever been in the same room as her, claimed they were best friends. Kevin Costner is the only celebrity who refused to talk about her. He only expressed his sadness over her death and refused to turn mourning into a PR exercise. Here, he did the same. He talked because he was asked by Whitney's family and it was a beautiful eulogy. I think Kevin Costner has a lot of class and integrity.

I remember watching this with my husband at the time and he wasn’t really a fan of Whitney or Kevin, he’d never seen The Bodyguard. He turned to me about halfway through this speech and said “Kevin was in love with Whitney, he loved her.”

@@TheFailedmessiah He never had an type of security or military training for them to consider wanting him to be her "bodyguard" I think it had more to do with the fact that he himself vouched for her for the role when everyone was dead set against it when they had acclaimed actresses waiting to audition for the role. She had no actor training under her belt and The bodyguard was her breakout role that solidified her as an "actress". They asked him to speak because he did have some affections for her that grew over their time of filming but being a good man he was married and so was she so he respected those boundaries and never allowed anyone to take advantage of her.

I met Kevin Costner in Rome, and can attest that he is a kind, down to earth and generous guy.

He paid the tab for a bunch of my Army friends and I and talked to us for a little while. he was far more interested in what we did in the military than talking about himself. This was in 1997 and he was just a nice guy that you could picture yourself hanging out with from time to time.

in Kevin and Whitney's case I think it was just bad timing and if they had met say 5 years before and both were single, things would have been different. But youre right, i think these 2 were perfect together, and i think it would of been a match that whitney's family would truely embrace seeing as they were both quite religious and grew up in the same church.

I just recently watched a documentary about the making of “The Bodyguard.” The fact that Kevin Costner wanted to wait a year for her availability was just amazing. Who does that for a “black”singer in her first acting role. Kevin and Whitney connected and they had great chemistry on and off screen. What a sad day when Whitney left us. Kevin Costner you’re a class act and I LOVE YELLOWSTONE.
It is sad, knowing how she carried such a heavy burden of expectation that ultimately played a part in her leaving this world far too soon.

I watched this speech back in 2012. To this day it still gets to me. Kevin really loved Whitney! He waited a year for her, he was there for her every step of the way, never let her fall and he was the one who chose I Will Always Love You for the film because he saw her potential and knew she could do it. This beautiful eulogy is a symbol just how special she was to him and how deeply he felt for her. They were a beautiful couple on the screen. I truly believe that there was something between them. Tragedy that she was already messed up on drugs. No matter how much he might have wanted to that was something no amount of love can fix. It saddened me that she endured such abuse in her personal relationship.
I look a Kevin differently now. When he told the story of how everyone wanted him to pick a white singer for the movie and he refused. And than they said she couldnt do it because of touring and he made them wait a year till she was available. He really meant that when he said she was only one for the part. I could tell he saw her for who she really was and not what shr was portrayed in the media, he really cared for her and it showed in that eulogy.

I never heard a man speak the way Kevin Costner speak about Whitney Houston it was just so beautifully said he believed in her when nobody else believed in her to be in the body guard he waited for her for almost a year he really love Whitney his speech was just outstanding and with unconditional love they had something in common they both was raised in a Baptist Church - and Whitney and him share great memories together I just don't like how the people in the church how they was looking at Kevin when he was speaking I think that's very rude and that really not on camera when the whole world is looking but nevermind on that part Kevin Costner is truly a great man and a gentleman he will always have my respect

Thank you Kevin for those words -Whitney was to me the most amazing voice I had ever heard from the very first time I heard her sing and a beautiful woman as well.....Sadly lifes challenges took her home too soon but her memory remains and you paid her a wonderful tribute.
All these years later and this still brings me to tears. You can tell that the love Kevin had for Whitney was real, pure, and deep-and who could blame him? Flaws and all, she was a gift to this world. What a class act he is for giving such a heartfelt tribute.

I totally forgot about Kevin Costner’s speech at Whitney’s Home Going Service. Kevin did appear to have intuition. That was such an emotional day for me. But googling and being reminded, Kevin wanted Whitney to play that part, and no one else. Kevin postponed the filming of the movie for a year, and to Whitney was free to play that part. Wow! This is amazing.
