My team literally just used the ultra-grip primer on an old vinyl curtain wall divider they top coated it with the fusion mineral paint. We followed the prep instructions cleaned with the TSP alternative cleaner and it turned out perfect! saved us lots of money not having to replace the curtain wall. Great product!
That’s wonderful!
Love this Fusion paint! Thx so much for the tips on dark furniture with the Ultra Grip. This will save me lots of time.
You’re welcome.
Nice color
I think I saw this piece in the antique centre which I think is your store and it is beautiful IRL
Dentee Lylo yes you would have. At Camp Hill Antiques. Thank you. It was fun painting it.
Can you use Gel stain & Top coat over the Ultra Grip? I'm looking at using the Black gel stain on a fireplace mantel that is shiny finish?
You could if you wanted to, but I would think the Gel Stain would be strong enough to adhere to the finish.
Thank you for responding. I’ll have to sell a couple of pieces and then get the good brushes. Quick question, I’m painting a piece with a very dark shiny surface. Should I prime first to avoid bleed thru, then a thin coat of ultra grip and then paint with the fusion paint?
it should not bleed through if you have not scratched through the shiny varnish to the underneath stain - the stain is what causes bleed through, not the shiny varnish over the top of the stain. In these cases, I usually scuff sand the surface (ensuring I don't break through the varnish to the stain underneath), then thin layer of ultra grip, then paint.
If i have a piece that is both very glossy and dark ( i want to paint it white), do i need to use ultra grip and the BIN stain blocker primer?
Great question. You wouldn't have to use both, so if your idea is to use the white BIN stain blocker primer to help with covering the dark, that would be a great idea.
Can you use a foam roller to apply Ultra Grip? Thank you, Tracy.
Yes, in fact, one of the best ways to apply it to avoid applying too thick or getting any brush strokes which may appear through subsequent layers of top coats of your paint. You really only need a very thin layer, so even if using a roller - I recommend a micro-fibre roller, and roll it out well onto your roller tray to squeeze most off before applying to get a thin coat.

What affordable brush would you recommend to apply? I can’t find stock of the fusion brushes, also need something more affordable if possible
Are you in Australia? You can look under brushes on the shop tab here: irestorestuff.com/product-category/brushes-3/ otherwise I'd try Cling On brushes if you have them in your area.

How is Fusion Mineral paint removed after cured?
How about a metallic to match the hardware?

First time using fusion and I bought the ultra grip. They told me at the paint store that I needed to sand the surface first and I think I over sanded bcause I'm afraid it won't stick.
Fusion paint sticks really well by itself without ultra grip. I only ever use ultra grip on super slick surfaces. I always key the surface with a quick scuff sand first. No need to sand back to raw wood.
Want to paint white over dark wood. Would I put Bin primer on first and then ultra grip. The top of the piece will get some use so want to protect.
If using BIN primer I would not worry about adding the Ultra grip afterwards. Just scuff the surface and wipe clean before applying your BIN primer. Then after you final paint layer of you want to protect further, use a non yellowing sealer such as Fusion’s Tough Coat Wipe on Poly.
@@irestorestuff Thank you that is a big help.. Great job on your video

Can you use ultra grip over bin primer on a shiny surface
I believe the bin primer will stick to shiny surfaces and also block stains and bleed through . No need for both products
Can I mix a metallic paint with a fusion mineral paint ? And then paint my dresser ?
Yes metallics are perfect for mixing in to paint colours. You can create some beautiful shimmery effects.

Where in Australia I am in Gatton Qld
Hi, I'm in Brisbane (actually south of Bris in Heritage Park) and have a booth at the Camp Hill Antique Centre. You can visit my website at www.irestorestuff.com
Any tips on what to do about the ultra grip if you put too much and make a mess of it? I have one section that I messed up and don’t know how to fix.
I’m assuming you mean that you may have applied too thick and can now see brush strokes, or maybe overworked it as it was drying, which would also create a bit of a messy section. The best thing would be to just sand that section back once the ultra grip has dried and start again with a smooth surface. Apply a very thin layer with a good quality brush or a mini microfiber roller for best results.

Cling On brushes here cost $34! I can’t afford that for one brush
"here" meaning where? I'm in Australia and that's around how much we sell them for here. Definitely worth the investment when I've used the same brushes for years and haven't thrown one out yet. They almost self clean in water when using the water based paints I carry. So many have said how much smoother their finishes are using these due to their tapered bristles, making their jobs so much quicker. I understand if you are only painting a few items, but if you plan on painting a lot and flipping furniture as a means of income, I was so glad I made the switch from cheaper brushes when I did.
No sanding before uktragrip?
You can give it a scuff sand with a 180 grit sandpaper first for extra measure.

It's still unclear to me if you have to sand the piece
Yes, I usually scuff sand the surface to give even more grip for paint.
