We give Jagex a lot of shit all the time, but the Oldschool team really did pull through in an amazing way here. Massive update got polled and when the release wasn't what players thought it would be, it was reworked and it still continues to receive updates to make it better. I don't know of a single other game publisher that comes close to this kind of interaction with the players.
100% agreed, the team works way harder than they’re given credit for. :)
It's easy to complain but I myself have been hooked for 17 years with many others. They've obviously done some good over the years and OSRS wouldn't be here if they didn't donate time and we forget this too often..
Now they just need to remove the duel arena and bots 😉

From someone that’s played since 2001, piss on Jagex, they don’t care about you, the players, etc.
They care about maintaining the worlds largest money laundering network, while also charging a membership fee to a few bots.
I love zeah as it is currently, but it would have been cool to see it the way reach intended. The whole "Factions at war" thing would have been interesting to take part in, and seeing NPCs treating you differently based on your faction choice would have been pretty cool.

Warring factions wouldn't work properly in a game where you're meant to unlock everything though, J think that's why they scrapped it.
RS3 is far better due to the engine. OSRS is severely limited. Nooby RS3 players would make Woox looks like a toddler playing with toys.
Mod Reach was fired due to real world trading. Mod Mat K confirmed it about a week ago on the osrs podcast.
Zeah is honestly so cool. There's even a Zeah only ironman community. Such a great land.

I still don't get why they haven't updated nightmare zone and moved it to an island off the coast of Lunar Isle.
I remember reading that essentially that'd break all of nightmare zone. Same thing with that cow that's always in the middle. Essentially the way it was coded and put together if they try to change anything it all breaks so they've left it as is cause oh well. I've also heard people saying stuff about how the minigame tele would now need the lunar quests done which would upset pures and stuff.

Basically, he probably doesn't want to set up on or even near Lunar Isle cus...his Dad is a dick.
That being said the inside should definitely be more akin to a darker Lunar isle dream world (Nightmare, rather than Dream).
Concerning a permanent location...RS3 has the Dominion tower, which let you fight old bosses and its in the Desert. Maybe they'll make a nod to that in the future...but maybe not! Either way, I hope that if Dominic does move back to the Isles he'll reconcile with his dad...and maybe leave a portal in Yanille...overseen by that cow, of course.
@You Tube It only lets you fight Galvek from DS2, as far as I understand.
@dangeros6691 the nightmare zone outside of yanille where you can fight a multitude of quest bosses is what we're talking about. You're thinking of the well of remembrance (or similar name) inside the myths guild for refighting galvek.
I’m glad that Zeah didn’t get the Uber quest on release. No way the first ever Uber quest in old school is going to take place on a completely brand new continent. However, the new story line is getting good especially with a kingdom divided. I’m excited to see where the lore goes
I would've liked them to include some sort of quest, it was weird walking to a whole new place without any sort of introduction even if it was some novice quest

I think there should be a quest that unlocks a second home teleport to Zeah. Not RS3 style home teleport to every location in the game, but having easy access between the two continents would make it more accessible and more worth while. I like the continent, it’s just always a pain to get to and I’m always demotivated to go there whenever a clue or quest takes me there.
I'm not entirely against that idea, but I don't find the continent hard to access at all. Skills necklace will take you to woodcutting guild and farming guild, Xeric's talisman will take you to 5 different places, there's 3 fairy rings, Kharedst's memoirs and the teleport spells. There even is a free minigame teleport to tithe farm in Hosidius after having entered once.
@@dwerg1 Yeah, but all of those are exclusive to either: players who already have a bunch of hours in the game and have unlocked things like Fairy Rings; or low level players who are so obsessively wiki crawling that they made getting a games necklace a priority. Most new players to RuneScape just sorta play the game naturally by interacting with what’s in front of them, and googling specific questions they have about the game. They don’t find out all the different transport methods in the game until they see them mentioned elsewhere.

This content was actually pieced well together in the end, I just hope the person who inspired the new Zeah was rewarded handsomely.
I decided to pick up rs again during twisted league, and getting to explore zeah for the first time like that left a great feeling. Been playing pretty steady since then. And these improvements lately have been the cream of the crop, shazien looks amazing now, probably the best looking place in game imo

Not even kidding I was on a longer break since I had graduated and worked a few years and had a kid since graduating and when mobile beta came out on Android, I cannot tell you how awesome Zeah and Kourend was and still is. Farming guild, wc guild, kourend slayer dungeon, and lizard men and so much more. I’ve always liked it
The biggest thing I like to see them work on is finishing previously unfinished content. Hopefully menaphos/desert is next on the list, along with While Guthix sleeps, part 3 of sea slug, part 3 of fairy tale, and others
Was there a big write up of how Sea slugs RS3 addition quests in the series essentially ended up as "oh nooooo It fell over" / pinnacle build uo was over because the main village just stubbed their toe. They've made public comments about rewriting current lore for RS but ffs both games do have diff lore etc.
raids 3 was announced at summer summit along with a new quest that unlocks menaphos, so they are working on it

I think the fact it is now the most popular area for player too make an area locked ironman account speaks volumes to just how much its been improved since then
I started playing OSRS last month, and Zeah is a really fun region to explore. The quests on Zeah have interesting fights, it has a nice dungeon, and visually it looks really nice(still old school but modernized), the farming guild with the Hespori fight is fun, and sand crabs were an awesome spot to level early game. I don't have the stats to do raids yet, but there is so much new content that I'm looking forward to. I hated getting Lovakengj favour though.
Yeah I agree Lovakenj was the worst one to get favor for haha
They need to add a wilderness section to Zeah.
And a quest line about the 3rd Age and the God Wars since they caused the death of the Wilderness

Today, its a major success and is loved. Brimmed with content, has interesting lore, and will now get a huge expansion that looks good!
Mod Mat K actually confirmed on the last OSRS Podcasts that Reach was only fired for RWT. They talk about it at 1:48:30.

The only thing I'm still confused on is this quote from the post made when Reach was dismissed, "This was flagged to us by system checks which track and log code changes made to the live game. We were able to intercept the intended changes before anything could impact the game economy."

@@ColonelloRS If I recall correctly, during that time there were some weird bugs surrounding the corporeal beast (invincibility bug) which was heavily botted.

I didn’t know till recently that osrs isn’t just RuneScape from 07. It’s RuneScape from 07 with new stuff in the way of the old style.
So rs3 and osrs are kinda becoming 2 separate games.
And from the lore as I understand it, they are 2 versions of each other, alternative timelines. OSRS is just RuneScape if the 6th age never started because an important event never happens.
To me it just makes it that more interesting. Makes both games more interesting.
It also shows that these kind of ideas take time to grow and develop. Some things look great in the design phase but can be quiet different to experience as a player.
Appreciate the quality video content as always! I'm excited for the addition of Varlamore to Zeah; hopefully Jamflex says something about it in the upcoming Summer Summit. Also I saw you at the GE not too long ago - I hope you remember Warballistic :D

This was interesting for me, as i restarted with osrs after the continent had been "fixed" already.
I never quite got what people's problem was with the continent until now.
It looked dumb and no content
It took Twisted League for me to actually explore Zeah and discover it wasn't terrible anymore but actually really well done
This depression and anxiety will never end, I can only temporarily fight it with beer and weed but my health is slowly failing me, the end is near, I can't wait for the next life I hope its a game......

I'm exactly the same. Genuinely lost in life. I have no one. I feel do alone. All i want to do is smoke weed and die. My physical health is deteriorating from laying down all day. I get random spikes of being motivated and positive, but it gets eclipsed by my crippling depression.
It may have taken half a decade, but zeah has become one of my favorite places in the game.
I still think Zeah by itself is a bit soul less. It would need more direct activity and more quests that ties the continent to the mainland.
I mean, it wouldn't hurt the mainland, or Zeah to have 1 or two direct teleports that is close to a bank and have more activity there that doesn't seem so tedious to enter.
I honestly loved Zeah. To be fair, though, I don't play OSRS that much so I didn't exhaust its content very quickly. I think the sense of adventure definitely was there but I also get why it was underwhelming to most players. I'm glad Jagex really kept improving instead of abandoning it because the idea was phenomenal!

6:52 It actually did exactly that for me, and now that 2016 is so far gone I kind of have a nostalgia for early kourend. I remember when I first discovered it existed, I hadn't played since launch or used any of the social media so it suprised me. I thought it was some P2P only area from long ago since in 2007 i didn't have membership. It was fun figuring it out and exploring the vast empty fields of hosidius.
I honestly didn’t know the expansion failed, shit I’m still tryning to get my skotizo pet by doing as many slayer task as possible in the slayer dungeon

Just did a kingdom divided and it was a great quest. The potential of OSRS is so large, but man it takes awhile for shit to get patched and a lot of dead content unfortunately
I think Zeah represents the best possible compromise between players who play for nostalgia and players who want new expansive content. Hell, why not even one day expand further east into another new continent? It's this kind of content updates that osrs can live and thrive on without disrupting players who play for the nostalgia like myself, not forcing new skills and mechanics into old existing stuff that nobody asked for.
I, personally, actually really love Zeah and all that it has to offer and I definitely hope to see more additions. Maybe that coliseum can provide a new fun combat challenge in the form of PVM 1 v 1's and/or PVP 1 v 1's(maybe offer both?) as well as new wave based survival challenges with fun new rewards?
I'd also be interested in some more quests that explore the different factions and how they interact with their world and each other. I also love the idea of a grand library with tons of potential lore about the world - it could mirror the Library of Alexandria in real life and have a compilation of all the world of Gielenor's lore and history(and maybe a few highly sought after texts that Zamorakian, Ancient, Guthixian, and Saradomin followers alike would be plotting to get their hands on?)
There's just so much potential in so many areas of this game, and more and more I find myself interested in the world and its NPC's as time goes on, so seeing expansions on that would be lovely.

There should be a teleport spell in the normal spell book for Zeah. It is still tedious to get around.
There is, the Kourend Castle Teleport at lvl 69. You need to find the 'transportation incantations' book in the Arceuus library to be able to use it. If you use the runelite plug-in to find the book, it's not hard to find.
It appears some info recently came out on Reach - he added a way to prevent certain users to get crystal weapons from Ilfeen via the rotten potato - "to prevent ragging". I think Ash posted about it on Twitter.
Because people said Menaphos was shit. That killed expansions pretty much. Wilderness expansion was killed because of that.
Leagues 1 were awesome
Up until then, I really did not enjoy Zeah. It was a big chunk of content but you never experienced it like the rest of the game-world in the way you did as a kid. Leagues 1 changed everything. Suddenly, we all were set, locked up in Zeah and it forced you to explore the world and find out about the new content. This really changed my perspective on Zeah and I really started to get "this nostalgic feeling of exploration". Many Leagues 1 players will agree that this was a game-changer. It really helped to make Zeah a valid piece of old-school runescape and I still enjoy doing stuff there today. I think Leagues are a nice way to really make the playerbase comfortable with content which seems a bit to "new" to be part of the concept of osrs we have embedded in our minds
Well, this video explained a lot about why I was confused about that continent. It still suffers from having the feeling that there is not much to do there. I did find out that there are some minigames which, nice farming patch and the 5% cookingsucces is nice so I do go there every time I cook.

Mod Reach was a Jagex Moderator who used to work in the RuneScape QA dept. He then moved to Old School Runescape to become a QA tester, later on then moving to becoming a content developer for Old School. On April 21, 2015, Mod Reach was "dismissed from employment at Jagex, following an investigation into serious misuse of moderator privileges."[1] His personal account, Mad Dan, which was maxed, was also banned.
Reach was well known at Jagex HQ for his flexibility in the workplace.
It was suspected that he may have played a role in the "corp glitch" which allowed players to be invincible at the Corporeal Beast as it would not attack them back. However, Mod Mat K later stated on Reddit that Mod Reach had nothing to do with the Corporeal Beast bug.
Mod Audi was fired for RWT and game breaking bug related to a Corp invincibility bug working with the law breakers and making tons of money behind the scenes.
Now that they showed valdamore on the summer summit you can see a lot of reach’s scraped ideas are coming back to the valdamore expansion

Bro it’s literally just 2007 continued into what it should of been . Rather than taking pk. Trade. And adding evolution of content . They’ve just added content while maintaining the original game scheme . You must not of been there before 2007

personally i think a big reason why i failed was the main landmass of osrs was content built up over a long period of time, things got added gradually, reach wanted to add a new landmass of the same size with the same amount of content in one go, it was bound to fail with such a small team

I think the relatively empty map was done on purpose. So that they could add content slowly overtime. Like how the first continent was filled.

Old school players hate everything "new" anyway since the whole point is that its fueled by nostalgia (and rwt), so why even bother lol. Just keep the new, exciting stuff for rs3.

I still feel like Korend is a little too...much...like it feels like 5 different biomes smashed together in a way that doesn't feel as natural as the OG continents.

Love OSRS but in my opinion I feel the biggest issue with the future of the game is polling. There’s like this division in OSRS where one side plays for nostalgia and old graphics but the other plays for the non-evolution gameplay.
OSRS will die off if the polling stays this way. I love both OSRS and RS3 but polling definitely needs to be less of a factor in decisions.
Zeah is an amazing piece of content with cool graphics(still looks old in a good sense btw) that polling for once made possible but still should have went through without the polling.

Kourend houses and clue hunter armour were made during the GoT climax. They exist because of that
The Catacombs are just a bad reskin of the original Chaos Tunnels which were so much cooler. Zeah/Kourend will always feel like bad content when so much stuff feels forced into it to make it fanservice or just bearable.
ex mod mark spilled the beans on why reach was fired. it wasnt the corp bug, he just sold some gp off his acc(not his mod acc). even the mods be rwting
I was still in between stopping rs3 and picking up osrs when the whole zeah thing happened, i just didn't follow it much and looked at it and was like 'that's cool', then completely forgot about it and turns out nothing happened.
I didn't know the pieces inbetween.
Current day zeah I see why it would feel weird and empty at places, but it does have some decent content there still that I'm contempt with.
Farming guild, a farming minigame that's not livid farm from rs3, a woodcutting guild that's not simply 5 magic trees, a RAID, good slayer spots with decent drops and bosses and a unique slayer master with a special reward chest, good mining/smithing alternatives, a whole new unique spellbook that's, while not as good, gets updates that are decent enough, best runecrafting spots, a high level fishing spot, a skilling boss/minigame.
Between this and fossil island I do think zeah is the winner.

I wouldn't call Zeah a failure. As you said it doubled the landmass in OSRS. Hard to release enough content to fill it up all at once. It's actively being added to and gives the devs more geography, environments, and cultures to work with. Seems like a win to me tbh

I hate traveling across Zeah, it is not easy and there are too many obstacles, too much going on. If they thin out the obstacles and consolidate then maybe it would be good. It's not.

Still need to make it more artistically dense for Arcessus and Lovkengi, and need to get rid of favor all together for doing another 5 quests for the kingdoms. The slayer dungon is way op too compared to the result of dungons. The other dungons need a boss like Skotizo.
