- We all know Richard Hammond loves a Ford Mustang, so we decided to give him a proper treat - a test track all to himself, and the brand new Mustang Mach 1. Being the most track-focussed Mustang Ford has ever brought to European soil, the scene was set for Richard to have some serious fun.
This video was made in partnership with Ford UK.

“Professional driver, do not attempt”
Its Hammond, you dont need to tell people what to do
The seat belt thing, I was thinking Hammonds crashed a jet car, anyone who knows this will not take safety advice from him.
Professional crasher that lives. I will listen to what he does. He is Like Cptn Eric "Winkle" Brown. Small, aware, and survives. Some of my best memories are crashing and living ...
"Do not attempt"... What a shame, I was literally just about to whip my unreleased Mustang out of the garage.

As nice as the Mach 1 is, I'd rather have Richard's Fastback. Preferably *before* he crashes it.
Same. Can't beat the Classic. You just can't beat it.
@@psychic_plays Cough, cough, cough, Shelby GT500. I am assuming you meant a seriously modified Fastback because that car is one third the price. And quite frankly, what most people want in a Mustang unless you love in Europe with an autobahn.
The Shelby is what most people would alter the Fastback to be. Which is the point. It's now stock, where the type of car you are prolly talking about is not stock (and hence illegal to race).
These cars are, the same, except the Shelby has pretty much the best engine. I could get better but it won't alter performance because of weight. But the transmission. This is something new.
It's going to have the kids outperforming skilled people with the standard trans and clutch. It just works faster than a human can now.
@@nonenone4461 The classic cars look the best, by far, and they can't be brought back because of nanny state regulations. No one said it's the fastest car or the best performing.

+JRC99 I agree with you! I would not waste the money on what Richard drove around the track. I prefer the Mustang made of actual metal and a 4 barrel carburetor on top. Actual gauges too!
As Jeremy would say: dont worry about getting in the car on the wrong side... you'll be on the right side when it's up side down. ;-)

What I love about The Mustang is how it’s an underdog that punches above its weight class. It was the leather jacketed street tough that could win against professionally trained fighters. When you look at the donor platforms: Fairmont/Sierra, Falcon, (I guess I have to mention the Pinto) it’s a working class hero...

Makes you realize how much you miss actual car segments on Grand Tour. The adventure stuff is fantastic but "car go vroom" segments are great too.
Agree 100%. I just wish Clarkson and May would do some car segments. It has mainly been Hammond so far.
The adventure stuff has more staying power since they arent dependent upon new information. If you go back to season 2 of old new top gear on Amazon, all of the new car stuff is about cars that are mostly off the road at this point tbh. The trio still have a way of making it entertaining, but its not something you'd turn to for car buying information anymore.
May should test drive the new Dacia Spring when it comes out
@@cmac1100 That's why all three of them should do them here on DriveTribe.

Its got 390, (6.4L) was a chassis dyno video test of it. It was pretty underwhelming, well under 300hp to the wheels maybe 230ish, but I don't recall the exact numbers. I believe it's more or less stock with a fair amount of miles on it.
I’ve driven the classics and I’ve driven the new stuff... I’ll NEVER own a classic

All these years and Richard still cant link a figure 8 doni haha, we love you man.
I'm surprised that no one asked the question"does it come in a manual"
It does, which is probably why the 0-60 time shown is slower than the base GT with the auto.
This is so mint. Amazing content. Old school Top Gear reviews with modern feel of audience engagement. Great stuff 👍👍
I just love “ Active value performance exhaust “ 🤣🤣🤣
The exhaust bit makes me laugh. My brother has a Chevy (Holden) SS with the 6-speed and all the factory installed variable stuff including the variable exhaust volume. When I was a kid (my sweet granddaughter smiles and says, "Gee Grandpa, that was waaaay back in another century!") if you had what was colloquially known as a "cut-out" and the local cop heard it, you got a ticket. NOW... it on the factory order sheet!! Chevy, Ford, Dodge, it doesn't matter, they all have them!
Love your '67, Richard. '67 & '68 are my favorites.

This format for car reviews was fantastic.
Really? I have to be honest and I didn’t find it informative or interesting. And at that cost, it wasn’t entertaining either. If you want a proper car review, watch Henry Catchpole over at Carfection, Dan Prosser at Pistonheads or of course Chris Harris.
Liked the video before watching it. That's the amount of trust I have for in Hammond's review.
Richard they already DID put the steering wheel on the “proper” side. It’s an American car remember?

Love where the M1 sits in the product lineup. I have a GT with a full Roush suspension upgrade and 350 strut tower bar, and what it needs is a drive-train sport or sport+ mode that can be matched to a softer suspension mode. If I were to upgrade today I would go to this. I don’t need everything the 350 offers and I can have more fun on local roads without being as loud as the 350R
