Clarkson has said once again one of the greatest things ever on television : comparing traction control with nymphomania control on a nun. Unique never will we see a moment like this
I owned a 2016 Ford Mustang GT Premium in Deep Impact Blue for six delicious, delightful years. It was a joy to drive, and I got more compliments on it than EVERY OTHER CAR I've ever owned ... *COMBINED!* I did finally let it go, but its V8 burble and its playful responsiveness will stick with me for the rest of my life. Thank you, Ford!
I've got a 2020 Mustang Ecoboost and, even without the V8, I get so many comments. My missus absolutely hates the attention, as she doesn't understand why anybody would come over to comment, but we can't go to the supermarket without somebody making some kind of comment on it. It baffles me a little, as it's not an expensive car, but it is rarer (and better looking) than the similar priced BMWs and Audis.
I had the RS for 2 1/2 years and currently have a 2022 Mustang GT V8 with MagneRide. The RS was sharper, more spritely and responsive but was a harsh ride for long journeys even in standard mode. The Mustang isn't as fast, is really only a 2 seater and the boot design awkward. However the Mustang is a nicer place to be for medium-long journeys and that V8 puts a bigger smile on my face. I do occasionally miss the RS but feel it was better suited to track days. The Mustang on the motorway barely uses any more petrol than than the RS but around town the Mustang is way more fuel hungry. Both are awesome cars but I have to give the biggest smile to the Mustang.
I've driven from the southern tip of Florida to Toledo, Ohio in both a 13' Focus ST and a '19 EB Mustang. The Mustang, without a doubt was the more enjoyable ride, barring the hills of Kentucky/Tennessee (If you've driven I-75 you know the section). The Focus was the best for short highway bombs and traffic, the Mustang as you said is much more suited for longer journey trips. I could make it from Naples, FL to Lexington, KY (12ish hours) before stopping to sleep in the Mustang, in the Focus I'd only ever get to Chattanooga (8-ish hours) or nearabouts because the ride just wore me out. That goes without saying, once I finish paying off the Mustang, I'm going to look into a used RS.
Replace the stock 19 inch wheels with 18s and 245/40 rubber and the car is much better over bumps. Ford also revised the struts front and rear for 2018s for softer ride and better handling, and these can be bought for any model year mk3.
When you say that the Mustang "isn't as fast" that kind of depends on how good a driver you are. Like you, I have owned both, for me the Mustang is fastest because without doubt it wins in a straight line (anyone can drive fast in a straight line), but to get the extra speed on a track through better handling of the RS, you have to be a well above average driver. As the GT boys concluded, in truth there is an obvious winner between these two, and it ain't a focus.
Yea, not all of us feel that way. Americans grew up with horse power. When the mustang came out, England was driving around in mostly underpowered crap. The Ford Cortina for example.
As much as I love the Focus RS as a pocket rocket, my time working at a Ford dealership showed me another side of it. They were always in the shop for transmission issues, and the owners were constantly aggravated by it. Not sure if it was a manufacturing fault, or the owners being too rough with em
I've had two fords in my life, one frequently caught fire. The other had a factory standard transmission that couldn't handle the power output of the factory standard engine. The first time it blew up, it punctured my water pump and my radiator. That lead me to believe the manufacturing was quite possibly done by a team of incompetents.
Strange, because my parents have only ever had Fords and each has lasted pretty well with minimal issues. The previous one we had was an 07 Mondeo 2.0 diesel, and that lasted almost 10 years despite towing a large caravan for most journey's.
Best "hot hatch" ever. Sad to see it go away. Turbo, AWD, and that sweet exhaust. Making the Mustang GTD does soothe the pain. Now just one last thing, make a production AWD Mustang.
I just walked through the showroom to get to the service dept at Sandicliffe Ford in Leicester earlier today. On display in the showroom was a Mustang Mach 1 ...a snip at £65k !!
I see alot of comments on here about "reliability" issues with the Focus RS, I own a 2017, bought brand new now has about 100k miles on it, have done multiple mods and acouple of tunes and the car has been and is completely solid! Meanwhile a friend of mine who owns a 2020 Charger RT had to replace his engine at 40k miles....
Lowkey it is a myth the focus RS is an unreliable car. The issue is with the earlier models not getting the correct headgasket. Other than that there are increasing reports of 100k+ models out there doing quite well.
Hm hm..I own Mustang GT 2017 and I soon change axle back muflers ( put Ford Performace by Borla ) becouse stock one ( maybe only in EU ) ...complet exoust is not that sound what you would expect forom a 5.0 V8 motor.
On wet twisty roads the Focus RS can be beaten only by the latest crop of Audi RS3. VW and Mercedes each of which developed in response to the RS success an oversteering-capable 4WD systems Imitation is the nicest form of flattery.
Mustang or Ford Focus.. crikey they're not even comparing like for like cars. Many cars will out perform a Mustang, maybe more agile on the open road but would I swap my Mustang for any other car? No way. The best car I've ever owned. I've driven so many in the US that they just take me back to open roads. Wedon't celebrate how a car makes you feel enough in the country. I open my garage to see the Mustang and instantly feel excited, would I with the a Focus, No. I've owned Audis since 1997 and as good as my 21 year old A4 is, it does not stir the soul like a Mustang.
In Canada, there is the weirdest competition for sales of vehicles. Maybe it's an elder millennial mid life crisis thing, but, a lot of Canadians who buy Mustangs also consider buying a Jeep, and vice versa. 2 more different vehicles could not exist, but somehow they are in direct competition for Canadian car buyers.
So the Focus, arguably one of Ford's best cars, is no longer available in N.America - only the Mustang and, of course, their extensive line up of pickups and SUVs. You have to go to Europe now to get a decent Ford car. Figure that one out.

C'mon guys please! We love you all and God forbid would never want anything to happen to any of you. Please start wearing helmets and protective gear if you continually insist on ramping up the aggressive behavior when behind the wheel.
If you like driving fast in a straight line for a bit then a Mustang is absolutely for you. I've driven one and the build quality on that thing was absolutely atrocious. It's almost as bad as the Tesla.
I had a 16' premium v8 mustang. It was ridiculous. The moment I gave it a little too much gas it would go off but the rear would jump left or right dragging the car along. I am a pretty good driver, but the mustang is very violently unpredictable. wish I never sold it.
