    I like how in the end, no matter how good or how bad the part looks, you install it anyways because that's the whole point of DIY: To take pride and feel good about the effort you just put into something.

    Definitely one thing to consider for diy is staying away from rigid patterns. With the camo, a tiny air bubble wouldn't be noticable, but with the carbon fiber pattern, you see every inconsistency

  • @goku4561
    @goku4561 2 роки тому +522

    I feel like more detailed hydrodip work with specific patterns and designs is best left to the professionals, but if you're just wanting to change up the colour of whatever you're planning to dip DIY works just fine

      @@Gazmus It all depends. It's much easier to get a uniform paintjob on something when it's just a flat layer of paint, assuming you do it correctly.

    • @goku4561
      @goku4561 2 роки тому +3

      @@Gazmus it depends on what parts you're trying to change the colour of really. Spraying something like a steering wheel wouldn't necessarily be as ideal as dipping because the prepping process for painting involves creating a coarse/textured surface for the paint to adhere to which is more difficult to achieve on something like a leather or faux leather surface. So ultimately it really would depend on what parts you're trying to do

    I know I'm a little late to the party, but I've done a decent amount of swirl painting, which is similar to the spray paint method shown here. I've found that paints made specifically for swirl painting work much better than anything else (especially spray paint). There's brands like Magic Marble that I've used and had great success with, since I enjoy the randomness and one-of-a-kind nature of swirl painting over the pre-determined pattern of hydro dipping.

    Hydro dipping with the film method works really well at home and the materials are cheap enough that you can try a bunch of times on random parts and still have plenty left after you get the hang of it. The temperature of the water you're dipping into is pretty crucial for a lot of the films. I just use a regular temp gun and make sure it's about 90F (32C). No air bubbles, glassed out film, and 90F water has given me pretty great results.

      A close friend does PPF and custom wraps . Definitely don’t advise doing it
      Yourself unless you’re extremely patient and savy. It’s very easy to wreck and you need to be super patient and take extra pride in your work for the car not too look like complete dog shit.

    I've been a Vinyl wrap installer for 10 year's so I know specialty stuff like this is always harder than it looks. People always think my job is easy until they try to wrap something themselves 😂. I've always wanted to learn how to do this.

    I love the should you DIY or should you don’t, everyone starts at the bottom. The first time I wrapped something it wasn’t great but I learned and am getting better. I’m about to try hydro dipping too and ima work at it until I get good cus the pros started out that way too

    I did before it's hard. I had a few things come out perfect and a lot come out bad LoL. Using a big rubbermaid tub is not the right way but I wasn't about to spend money on some expensive tank. Now I do cerakote and it's pretty easy if you good at painting.

    My illustration teacher in like 1992 gave us a demo of something like this. I think it was oil based paint with a bit of solvent in water and he dipped paper in it. He got everything ready, held the paper over it, stopped, looked into space for a few seconds and said "I think the last time I did this demo was in.. 1969?"
    An almost lost art that has come back into style ;)

    You guys should step it up a notch, try hydro-dipping as many parts as you can in a car and put it all back together. And I mean EVERYTHING that's doable like each individual button on the dash, every body panel, all the bits in the engine bay that won't get damaged if dipped in water, the brake calipers, the rims, the badges, so basically everything you can while keeping the car drivable (so like not the mirrors or the seats)
    TL:DR make the most hydro-dipped car on the road.

    Your supposed to go in slow, when fully submerged swish the remainder of floating paint away in small circles that way you don't pick up extra on the way
    out, and on the way out come up slowly too for best results. I've done it to car parts, shoes, mugs, hardhats, and various other things. Make sure you get
    correct paints.

    The hilarity and utility is high. Personality is going to totally nail it, I think there's room to branch but maybe more detail on why pipes are useful to you, there are a lot of details I've learned smoking that I think are useful and you know them too, share them.

    I’m not expert but I have done a few hundred dips for personal use. My tips other than what was mentioned is slow down when dipping, use warmer water, and use more activator!
