I like how in the end, no matter how good or how bad the part looks, you install it anyways because that's the whole point of DIY: To take pride and feel good about the effort you just put into something.
these videos shows me what , when , why , and how. dyi is all ways been cool and shops cost to much and sometimes doing it yourself is waaaaaaaaay better
Definitely one thing to consider for diy is staying away from rigid patterns. With the camo, a tiny air bubble wouldn't be noticable, but with the carbon fiber pattern, you see every inconsistency
I feel like more detailed hydrodip work with specific patterns and designs is best left to the professionals, but if you're just wanting to change up the colour of whatever you're planning to dip DIY works just fine
@@Gazmus it depends on what parts you're trying to change the colour of really. Spraying something like a steering wheel wouldn't necessarily be as ideal as dipping because the prepping process for painting involves creating a coarse/textured surface for the paint to adhere to which is more difficult to achieve on something like a leather or faux leather surface. So ultimately it really would depend on what parts you're trying to do
This makes me appreciate my hydrodipped interior that much more, I always assumed that it can’t be that hard, but it’s a definitely an art to do it professionally

Holy crap amazing ad- just had to comment and say that I am actually more likely to buy parts from them because of the effort and proper comedy of that ad - well done. Proper marketing right there
My family used to own a professional shop. There's a lot of variables to make parts come out nicely, and even then you need to touch up with an airbrush lots of times
I know I'm a little late to the party, but I've done a decent amount of swirl painting, which is similar to the spray paint method shown here. I've found that paints made specifically for swirl painting work much better than anything else (especially spray paint). There's brands like Magic Marble that I've used and had great success with, since I enjoy the randomness and one-of-a-kind nature of swirl painting over the pre-determined pattern of hydro dipping.
I've done custom airbrushing on rc bodies for the last 5 or so years, and the amount of time involved is mind boggling. I cant justify doing it for other people because there is just too much time involved. The amount of detail that comes with dipping is just astonishing for the little time involved
Pulling off a detailed paint job on those small bodies seems like so much work and I applaud people who can do that. It took me a whole damn day just to paint a gloss black body for my ERevo haha
I just want to say that I really appreciate that Jobe is a smart guy. He's the most enjoyable guy on this channel to watch try to do something/explain something
When you dip the part in, once you're through the paint layer, remember small circles to move all the gunk to the sides of the container so you don't have overlap when you're pulling the piece back out.
Hydro dipping with the film method works really well at home and the materials are cheap enough that you can try a bunch of times on random parts and still have plenty left after you get the hang of it. The temperature of the water you're dipping into is pretty crucial for a lot of the films. I just use a regular temp gun and make sure it's about 90F (32C). No air bubbles, glassed out film, and 90F water has given me pretty great results.
Justin already proving he's got what it takes to fit in with the boys with that intro lmao! Thanks for the knowledge as always, Jobe and crew! Cheers 🍻

I love Donut but they completely botched the hydrodip. Jobe kept wobbling the part underneath the water which causes air bubbles to form. He should just dunk it in, leave it for 2-3 seconds, and slowly lift the part before washing the sticky film off.
Iv hydro-dipped the slide on my 22LR pistol with white-tan-black spray paint and it turned out pretty good, the imperfections added to the look in my case.
As someone who did this for a living for 7 years. I can say that this is not easy. It's not cheap to set up and you really need to be able to paint first. It's an art and you're paying for an artist. 😉
Really they showed the film kit only costs 60 bucks. So once you get a bucket big enough and tape... there's a reason they rated both methods fairly cheap.
