The "Bat out of Hell" album was produced by Todd Rundgren, basically nobody in the music industry wanted to touch it at the time. Anyway, they had finished recording the entire album and Todd was in the studio wrapping things up when Jim Steinman showed up and asked Todd where the motorcycle sound was, don't you have any effects or something? Todd looked at Jim and said "I don't do effects." Todd then, rather sarcastically, asked Jim, "you were serious about the motorcycle?" Jim responded "Yes." So Todd said, if you want an effin' motorcycle, I'll give you one, to which he picked up his guitar plugged it in to an Amp, turned the tape deck on and proceeded to record the motorcycle sound...in one take, no less. Jim Steinman (who wrote the songs) and Meatloaf (who sang them) came together and between them created something that will endure forever in the annals of music history. I've listened to it so many times, and certainly will so many more.
You are correct, but I also believe that it wouldn't be what it is without Todd Rundgren's production.
@@jillshinault9442 Agreed. This was definitely a team effort. One of the finest albums in rock history.
Jim Steinman wrote that amazing song and Meat Loaf performed it to perfection.
The heart still goes in as the baker's spirit, Meat was a show, he's a rock opera performer
He's one of the few who was really ready to die with his boots on every time He took the stage. He gave his health literally for the love of the fans, while he could have been recouping, he refused to give fans halfass ever!
Mike K like rocky
Meatloaf exploded on the scene and blew us all away with this album. Billy Joel is rumored to have jumped up on a table after hearing this song performed and gave him an ovation..... the song still gives me chills up my spine to this day.
I can tell you, with ABSOLUTELY certainly, I saw Meatloaf at Monmouth university in NJ, Meatloaf collapsed at end of show, they gave him oxygen to revive him, he then did encore!!
I’ve had the privilege of seeing him live and yes, he puts in just as much energy and theatrics into real performances as he did his video performances. He’s an entertainer down to his bone.
Also have to give proper respect to Jim Steinman who was the album ' Bat Out of Hell' composer. Todd Rudgren was the producer of the album.
Todd also played guitar on some tracks :)
I didn't know that. I was dumbfounded when I found out that Todd was the producer.
@@GregoryMcLean Todd played all the guitars on this album, including the motorcycle crash on this track.
Todd was also the Guitarist that did the Motorcycle sound into the solo in 1 take.
Meatloaf and Jim were perfect partners. Meatloaf really sells Jim's words.
You took the words right out of my mouth is definitely one and also all revved up and one of my absolute favorites for crying out loud!!!!!
Coming up next Sista👍🏾
@@jamelakajamal YAY!! :)
@@jamelakajamal If its not too late be sure to include the introduction part called Hot Summer Night! They both go together. Thanks!
Jamel_AKA_Jamal You wont regret it.
Meatloaf truly is an experience.
Jamel_AKA_Jamal 💕💕💕💕.
The entire album is a classic. It takes you on a wild ride from start to finish. Just love Meatloaf but he was never the same without Jim. Sadly Jim Steinman just passed away. Rest in peace Jim hope your riding your bike in a better place.
Agreed. I owned the Non-Steinman vinyls and they were so bad I couldn't listen to them in seriousness. Meatloaf had amazing vocals but Steinman was the musical genius Meatloaf needed
Dude. I love your reactions to this . power performer .NOBODY can go from a scream to a whisper like MEATLOAF. btw..this is one of the best-selling albums of all time .Ive had it on 8-track , cassette , and CD .His vocals are. Legend
If Chris Farley had not passed when he did, he would have been the perfect actor to play Meatloaf in a bio-pic.
Meat Loaf does have a bio-pic. It's called To Hell And Back, and stars W. Earl Brown as the god himself.
Meatloaf is still alive??
Jack Black could do it.
Julia Lerner absolutely!
Must disagree. Jack Black is the only guy. Even if they have to digitally de-age him.
Oh my, I remember when I first saw him in the Rocky Horror Picture Show when I was still a kid. Yes, I was not allowed to see this at that age. My grandparents were sleeping. I didn't understand the transvestite thing. But I can tell you, when Meatloaf came down these stairs with his motorcycle, my heart was beating very fast. This guy really impressed me.
I was 12 years old, missed my bus, and as it rained I went to the cinema to stay warm. Did it often. Found myself in a crowd of people wearing strange makup and even stranger cloths. Scared to death when the confetti flew, later the water. Never heard of Such. I was a kid. And got addicted. Even my daughters are now. I sing every word from the first to the last.
@@ellenhofrath haha
@@ellenhofrath I took my daughter to see RHPS in Atlanta a few years back, and got a round of applause during the virgin hunt for the "awesome parenting"!
I first saw it after school, my mother had recorded it for us overnight confusing the title with a cartoon of a similar name that was around at the same time, she freaked when she came back in the room to see what we were watching. Never been the same since.
@@MsCatstaff I went with my daughters to an open air cinema to watch it and was asked several times: how did you get them here? My kids don't get it. My reply: the right education and good genes. 😁
One thing that I have always loved about MEATLOAF is that when he is performing he puts himself totally into it and makes you feel the song.
That song still gives me chills when I hear it! Lord he could sing! ❤
You needed to listen to the whole song with the crazy intro!!
Got my fair share of speeding tickets, playing this song.
Meat Loaf is a LEGEND !! They dont make anything like it any more.
Meatloaf was part of the rock opera that brought us the greatest performers of a generation. We had Meat, Queen, Bowie, Styx and Alice Cooper. We will never see their likes again. R.I.P Michael Aday, the world will miss you.
THE BAND!!!! ANYTHING FROM THE LAST WALTZ!
Absolutely. Van Morrison would be good to do as well.
Excellent suggestion, but wouldn't it take about 40 videos to get even close to doing The Band justice?

Yes!
Thanks for playing this version. He was the ultimate showman. May he rest in peace.
The last thing I see is my heart still beating, breaking outta my body, and flyin' away... LIKE A BAT OUT OF HELL! (back to the woman he loved)
As a grown ass man, I have no shame in saying, this is one of the few songs that can bring a tear to my eye every time I hear it.
"Life is a Lemon... And I Want My Money Back"... love this song!!... the title says it all and Meatloaf does not disappoint!
Hey Jamel
You should do a reaction to Meatloaf performing the song "Hot Patootie Bless My Soul" from the original soundtrack of "The Rocky Horror Picture Show"
I really love that rock and roll
This was my grandfather's favorite artist, I was lucky enough to take him to see one of his concerts for his birthday. When he passed we used this as his funeral song.
Drove through town in the hearse with this song blasting.
OUTSTANDING!
Perfect!
I just heard today that the great man Jim Steinman passed away on April the 19th. He has written, produced, performed many many many outstanding hits for a variety of artists from Air Supply, Bonnie Tyler, Celine Dion, Sisters of Mercy, but most of all Meatloaf. He will be sorely missed, but not forgotten because of his large body of work available. R.I.P Jim. Heaven is blessed with your talents.
He's a strong performer and I remember this from the 70's but I was never into Meatloaf... I recall he was in a radio interview probably in the 80's and the interviewer said "Mr Meatloaf" and he said "Call me Meat" I couldn't stop laughing at that 😁
@J0hNF_UK😁
You're one of very few reactors to do this song, it's a very underrated song and most people don't request it
There was no one like him. R.I.P Meatloaf 😢 Bought this album when it came out and I still have it.❤️
The bat has flown 1-20-22. Heaven has waited long enough. Rest in peace 🙏. You have left an indelible mark.
If you want to do any more Meat Loaf, try the studio version of For Cryin Out Loud - it's stunningly beautiful.
For Sure. My Favorite Song from Meatloaf.
Yes.. my favorite too
"Bat Out Of Hell" is the greatest album opener of all-time. "For Crying Out Loud" is the greatest album closer of all-time. Amazing.
Yes!!!
His real name is Marvin Lee Aday which he changed to Michael at some point in the 80’s I believe. He was born in Dallas TX in 1947. What a talented man ♥️
Holy crap
Meatloaf is 10 years younger than my mom
As he says in interviews, his real name is MeatLoaf. It *used* to be Marvin.
Jesus! He's getting old
Holy crap
Meatloaf is one year older than my mom
Holy crap
Meatloaf is the same age as my mum.
I will NEVER get over that golden voice
One of the best performers and singers ever! I love everyone of his songs!! He should be in the hall of fame!!!
I saw him when this album first came out. At the end if the show he broke out an oxygen tank and huff on it for about 5 minutes.
Yeah he was very unhealthy back then but has since lost 100+ pounds. He looks great! Hardly recognized him.
I got news for you. That wasn't oxygen.
Jim Steinman who wrote this songs loved the 50's songs Like "Leader of the Pack" and "My Boyfriends Back" and his songs reflect that.
Chiller1967 the character from rocky
You should see the record jacket that came with this. Explained everything in a picture ,which was 70's talent. Miss those days!
I remember listening to this Album in High School, I would listen to the whole album over and over because it was a story from the start to finish. Outstanding album, takes me back to the good old days. They don't make music or albums like this anymore. 70's and 80's best music made! PERIOD......
Amen!
Meatloaf is one of my favorite performers. He puts so much energy in to his performances.
A really underrated song of Meat Loaf’s is I’d Lie For You (And That’s The Truth)
Amazing song. I also live Testify
The whole album Welcome To The Neighborhood was underrated, IMHO
castle31666 I agree. Martha is one of my favorite songs but I just don’t think there are too many people who would like it today.
Jim Steinman, the legendary songrwriter behind most Meat Loaf songs and many other hits passed away this Monday. RIP Mr. Jim Steinman
VERY MUCH underrated , he and Jim Steinman were the pinnacle of rock in the 70's
Masterpiece!!!
Also, the sound of the motorcycle is actually a guitar sound that bleeds into the solo. It's fantastic!
Yep. Todd Rundgren.
Absolutely

This in my opinion is the greatest start to finish album of all time. The whole thing fits together and all the songs feel connected. Like they are all the same character and the first done is really the end of the story.
Amen! Genius.
Bat out of hell 1 and 2 are my go to road trip albums
A remarkable talent. I've loved everything he has done throughout his career. I'm 70 next year.
From a Bat Out Hell 2: "I'd do anything for love", Is amazing.
I saw Meat in 1982 just before I went into the service... That began my love of this mans GENIUS that will never leave me till my time is done on this Earth. Over the years I've lost count how many times I saw him live. Such great times, such GREAT music. You will be SORELY MISSED!!!
Meat Loaf was the insulting nickname they gave him as a kid. He is a true bard. He OWNS the venue when he performs. This album rocked my high school years.
Forgive me,but this was the album I rolled my Maui wowee on all the time! Child of the 70s froshbaby!

And this wasn't even complete! There's a whole instrumental intro that was left out.
You gotta check out the album cover; that's where the motorcyle in the cemetery image comes from...with a giant bat demon, too...
The intro is the best part of the song, too. Kind of a shame.
I remember learning that the motorcycles in the intro were played on the guitar, and they flow seamlessly into the screaming guitar solo. Mindblowing.
Joe Maurone that cover is one of the reasons why I bought the album on vinyl
