Yeah, I don't think Lex is at a place yet where she really pays attention to the lyrics. If she did, I think she might appreciate a song like this a lot more. Hopefully she'll get there
Do not forget the Musical prodigy Todd Rundgren, the only person who would oversee the direction/production of the album, when no one else would, and play lead guitar. It was Todd's masterful guitar playing that gave us the Motorcycle sounds at the ending of the song. How he made a guitar sing as a motorcycle was beyond conceptual at the time.
These guys were true theatrical performers. It wasn't a concert it was a complete play and a story that you'd never forget!!! I started listening to meatloaf when I was 16 years old I'm now 60. It's still great!
Brad got it this time. He caught on to what Meat Loaf does best, move your emotions where he wants them to go. And the parallel Lex drew with Freddy Mercury was right on. Anything off the Bat album is worth a listen. Also Dead Ringer for Love with Cher is a really fun, upbeat song and the video is a must. As a side note, the guy on the piano was Jim Steinman, the writer of most of Meat Loafs music. As always, Love you guys.
This was the soundtrack of my childhood, it came out in 1977 and blew me away at the age of 10, it blew all of us away, the whole album was a bombastic, haunting, unrequited cry of love and to me is one of the top 100 albums of all time...
Luke, same for me, I was 12 when it came out. I remember listening to it on my cassette player at the beach with my first girlfriend and getting my first real kiss. I actually shed some tears when I heard of his passing.
I was at boarding college at the time in Sydney. I was in year 10 at the time. It was enough to knock The Bee Gees out of the top spot at the time. No mean feat. It was always considered Meatloafs best album by quite a stretch. Personally, I always thought Ellen Foley's version of Heaven Can Wait was the pick of them. Her incredible range didn't change, unlike poor old Meats unfortunately. May Steinman and him rest in peace. 😢😮😊
Hence why a lot of his live performances had fans blowing in his face - it wasn't just for dramatic effect - it was to keep the big guy from face planting. And I in no way mean that to be disrespectful, but to point out that he put absolutely everything he had into his shows. He's a legend in Newcastle where I'm from. He had a bad show in 2007 when his managers had him perform live with a cyst on his throat - he couldn't finish the show and they'd pumped him full of cortisone steroids, so he announced he was retiring and walked off stage in a drug haze. He felt awful about it afterwards and did everything he could to make it up to the local community with charity fundraisers and appearances - he even fired his managers after they refused to pay back the ticket holders of the show. Did it work? Well I drive past two road signs and a bridge with "R.I.P. MEATLOAF" spray painted on them every time I go to work now - so I like to think so.

As Meat tells it in an interview he trying to get a gig as a parking attendant for the venue and they asked him to sing. He got the theater G if but was upset because he would have made more parking cars.

"Nothing ever grows in this rotten old hole and everything is stunted and lost ... and nothing really rocks and nothing really rolls, and nothing's ever worth the cost". One of my favorite lines in this absolutely epic performance!
One of my regrets was never getting to see him perform live. I can imagine he was a force to be reckoned with on stage! My proverbial hat is off to the magnificence of that man as tears flow down my face... his was an extraordinary presence in rock-n-roll storytelling... passion that reverberates through your soul and throughout time. His was a talent that essentially defied classification. It just was....
I was never a huge Meat Loaf fan, but LOVED Paradise the moment I heard it when it came out, when I was about 21, and grew to appreciate more of his stuff over the years. My two youngest sons, both now in their 30s, were absolute superfans from their preteens though, collected ALL his CDs, even the ones most others never heard of. My wife surprised them in 1996/97 with gold circle tickets for all of us at the Walnut Creek Amphitheater in Raleigh. Needless to say, they were absolutely ecstatic and even though the years had taken their toll by then, Meat still rocked it like only he does. RIP. Great reaction as always.
This song was about a motorcycle crash. “The last thing I saw was my heart still beating flying out of my chest like a bat out of hell” “lying in a pit with a burning bike”
I've read that Steinman was inspired by all those late 50s / early 60s songs about crashes (Teen Angel etc) and decided he wanted to write the ultimate crash song as a tribute.
Interesting that you mentioned Freddie Mercury, for me they are the only artists from the last quarter of the 20th century that I would say 'had it all', fabulous vocalists, excellent performers, didn't take themselves too seriously, but took their work very seriously.
Meatloaf lived his dream , he absolutely loved to sing and did it on his own terms . A true original who brought his awesome music to us all . Thank you Sir , Rock on in Paradise ☀️✌️
Meatloaf was a unique one of a kind performer. I cant think of any other rockers that sound anything like him. He has so much emotion and passion. A song like this can stir emotions and make me a little teary-eyed even though its not a slow sad song. Another legendary rock icon has passed but he will live on through his music (and movies).
This is my favorite Jim Steinman song. Also this song should come with a warning "don't play song while driving", I've gotten many speeding tickets while playing this song.
I saw him live three times years ago...twice from the front row. Stunning, fantastic performer live...one of the best live shows I have ever seen. Ever...
Jim's composition and Meat's performance would be lost if Todd Rundgren didn't step up and produce it. All the pieces fell in place to give the world a magnificent work of art. It's the sort of thing that gets better with every listen. And the stories behind the songs along with the lyrics and music just add to legacy.
Meatloaf was such a part of my growing up, growing up I would typically get my ass whupped whenever I got caught in my older brother's room but whenever he was out I couldn't resist listening to his 8 Tracks and Bat Out Of Hell was one of my favorites. RIP Meatloaf.
I love your reaction to this. However, without the full intro you are missing out on the full experience of this incredible song. I live outside of Dallas. The local news was full of commentary on his remarkable career, as this is where he was born and raised. In Columbus, OH, where I grew up, The Rocky Horror Picture Show played the longest run at Graceland Cinema, every Saturday night at midnight. Paradise by the Dashboard Light was always played first, before the movie. Magic times. I am extremely glad you played this, you guys. At 55, I am fortunate to have both grown up listening to him - and Steinman's incredible compositions - on QFM96 repeatedly, and a couple of times in concert. Long live Meat Loaf...!!! I am so glad you guys chose this...!!!
I won't lie, this video had me with goose bumps and made me cry at the end. This man was, in his prime, rock royalty and I loved him. He had so much charisma that, even with his size, I admit I had a bit of a crush on him when I was younger. I was lucky enough to see him in concert in London back in the eighties and he was seriously out of this world! #RIPMeatloaf I will never forget you.
RIP Meat Loaf ♥ (& Jim Steinman, last year ♥) ... Bat Out of Hell (released 1977) is still one of the best selling albums EVER & never been out of the UK top 100 and is on track to reach number 1 in the last few days .... thanks for uploading & paying your respects
I have this as a 12" blood red vinyl record :-). i have managed to get many well 'oiled' people to dance to this when i was a nightclub DJ... It was very dramatic to see them leaping around the dance floor
Meat Loaf (aka Marvin Lee Aday) was an established theater actor and operatic singer before he met songwriter/composer Jim Steinman in the 70's... the two collaborated and recorded the 'Bat out of hell' album in 1977, that fused rock, opera and classical music... That album sold 14 million copies in the US alone, over 40 million copies worldwide. Decades later, bands like Nightwish, Epica, Within Temptation, etc. took that style and made it into the symphonic rock/metal genre. Unfortunately, his vocal problems delayed the next album and problems conflicts arose business-wise between the singer & Jim Steinman... the 2 finally completed the 'Dead Ringer' album in 1981. It went to #1 in the UK but didn't sell in the US... Meat Loaf eventually went bankrupt and spent the 80's releasing albums without Steinman, & touring outside the US. By the early 90's, Meat Loaf & Steinman reconciled and finally recorded & released the "Bat out of hell II: Back into hell" album in 1993, which became a massive hit on MTV and sold 5 million copies. After the 1995 album 'Welcome to the neighborhood' sold platinum, more legal problems arose between the 2. Jim Steinman copyrighted the 'Bat out of hell' title. Meat Loaf used older Jim Steinman songs and others to record the 'Bat out of hell III: The Monster is loose' album anyway in 2006 without Steinman's approval... and continued to record albums. Meat Loaf recorded his version of Celine Dion's 1996 hit "It's all coming back to me now" which was written by Steinman. In 2013, Meat Loaf & Jim Steinman opted to collaborate on a new album on their terms, without any more legal issues, as both were in declining health... their last collaboration was the final Meat Loaf album 'Braver than we are' in 2016. Jim Steinman passed away in 2021, just under a year before Meat Loaf passed away... Before his death, Meat Loaf was a vocal supporter of right wing politicians, baseless conspiracies, and opposed measures against climate change & environmental conservation... He was also vocally against health measures and mandates taken against covid-19, and that is what is speculated to have taken his life in the end... I did not support any of his misguided political and social views, but I have to separate the man from his art to appreciate his music and voice... R.I.P. Meat Loaf
I first discovered Meat Loaf circa 1992. I was obsessed with Bat Out of Hell when I was a kid. A real shock when I found out he’d passed. He was a true talent. RIP
I love this song for the strong storytelling, but also all of the super relatable bits you can pull out of it individually. The "wherever you are, and wherever you go, there's always gonna be some light" bit touched my heart the first time I heard it and made me think of loved ones from the past and present. The "nothing ever grows in this rotten old hole" and "I know that I'm damned if I never get out, and maybe I'm damned if I do" bits make me think of being stuck in my hometown and whether that's good or bad. And it's kind of ironic hearing the end part of this song as a Meat Loaf fan. His untimely death was like a "sudden curve" that he didn't see until it was "way too late". 😭 However, I hope that his soul was able to break out of his body and fly away "like a bat out of hell" ❤ Thank you guys for reviewing. If you're into musical theater at all, Meat Loaf and his lyricist Jim Steinman created a musical called Bat Out of Hell that is based off of this album. The soundtrack from the original cast is online. The songs are really fleshed out with a full chorus and multiple voices; it's a really cool take.
I'm 60 years old and have been watching you kids for the past month and I must say something, you have musically matured right before my eyes, and I love you for it! It's great to hear you reference different artists and juxtapose the similarities, differences, nuances etc. I feel you're genuine and honest. I've watched quite a few other "reaction video" channels and it's rehearsed, pre formatted garbage. You kids are the real deal..Keep it up! I used to weep for the future, musically anyhow, not so much now! :)
No one ever mentions the classic "B" movie he made and starred in, "Roadie" with Art Carney, Alice Cooper, Blondie, and many others. The character he played, Travis D. Redfish, was the best, most hard working, self-made, and creative roadie that ever existed, and he took after his father's (Art Carney) advice: "It'll work, if you let it." Wiser words never spoken. Highly recommended....if you can find it!
My friend and I were at one of his concerts in L.A., front row, couldn't stay seated. In the middle of Bat Out of Hell, they pulled my friend on stage and gave him an air guitar to play along with the band. The other memorable thing, Meatloaf was performing with a black eye, true rock and roller.
There are very few “perfect” albums. Bat Out of Hell is one of them.
Yep.
Hope they rerelease his album 💿
Another is Queensrÿche - Operation Mindcrime.
Couldn’t have said it better; it was epic and still is, in my opinion.

He didn’t just sing the songs, he performed them 🙏

@@Dreyno I believe Leader of the Pack was the inspiration for You Took The Words Right Out of my Mouth - they certainly have tthe same drum line.
Meatloaf was born to perform on the stage. RIP Meatloaf
His performances were filled with romantic passion. He’s new to me. RIP
At 7 years old, for some reason, my grandparents had this album at their house, so these were the first songs I ever heard.
Fabulous sound anytime and storytelling
This is my favorite Jim Steinman song. Also this song should come with a warning "don't play song while driving", I've gotten many speeding tickets while playing this song.
I would hate being the driver befind me, because I treat the gas pedal as the kickdrum….
And play Air-guitar at the same time….
@@kimpedersen6194 I know what you mean, love the energy and this song has an effect like it lifts your spirit and gets your blood pumping.
Meat Loaf put everything into his performances. RIP Loaf. Will be missed.
So glad I grew up when I did, got to see this amazing talent in person. RIP Meat🌹🎼
opera trained, numerous roles on Broadway he sings and performs for the back row. one and only one
I'm devastated by his death 💔. I'm a huge fan! Special memories...
Meatloaf songs are like a work of art. He will be sadly missed.
Saw him in concert in the mid 90s. He was amazing to see live!
Saw him in Sheffield, England. Man you got your money's worth. God bless big man.
R.I.P Meat Loaf, I guess Heaven couldn’t wait after all, But Legend Lives Forever.
Bonus points for a Runt reference!
Todd head here.
We lost one of the greatest. Breaks my heart. Should listen to Everything Louder Than Everything Else.
Meatloaf and Jim Steinman were, are, and always be the kings of operatic rock. Period.
LOAF!! Every generation needs an entertainer like this all-time great.
The whole Bat out of Hell album is fantastic. Not a bad song on the whole album. I see this album as one long song.
RIP Michael you were one of the few original showman left, you will be missed dude.
See ya soon on the great Gig in the Sky 🧛♂️
R.I.P to the marvellous talent that was Meatloaf may he and his writing pal gentle Jim Steinman keep the pearl gates rockin
Meatloaf was the first operatic rock I'd ever heard and I still love this style today. RIP
nope Tommy was the first
Uh, Todd, Sheldor didn't say it was the first. He said it was the first he had heard.😁
Bat out of Hell - the album cover: "Cool! Dark heavy metal!" --- Bat out of Hell - the song: "Cool! He turned rock and roll into a Broadway musical!"
I have this as a 12" blood red vinyl record :-). i have managed to get many well 'oiled' people to dance to this when i was a nightclub DJ... It was very dramatic to see them leaping around the dance floor
I picked up a blood red copy a couple years ago
The Album _'Bat out of hell'_ is in the top ten of all time for most units sold....enough said!
It was a childhood nickname.....This made me cry my eyes out.
R.I.P. Meat Loaf
Or you could of just left out the political commentary and vitriol.
@@jerryculbertson2062 Be honest and pay respect. I won't speak if Ted Nugent bails...
I'm 50 yrs old and this is without doubt one of the greatest songs I have heard being performed by one of the best rock and roll singers of all time
Heaven can Wait is a great one of his.
I grew up with his music - his songs speak to a lot of us - great songs
For someone who regarded himself primarily as an actor, he was one hell of a superb singer.
I first discovered Meat Loaf circa 1992. I was obsessed with Bat Out of Hell when I was a kid. A real shock when I found out he’d passed. He was a true talent. RIP
Saw him twice, that lad put a shift in on stage, 🙏
this rock musical are sublim - absolut genius -
Underrated 70s lead singer
RIP Meat Loaf. Reunited with Jim Steinman and making great music in the afterlife!
By far my favourite live show I’ve been too! to think he was rejected by every record label when he was younger! we lost a good man rip sir!
You can really hear the Springsteen sound influence in parts.
Roy Bittan - piano, keyboards
Max Weinberg - drums
I'm 60 years old and have been watching you kids for the past month and I must say something, you have musically matured right before my eyes, and I love you for it! It's great to hear you reference different artists and juxtapose the similarities, differences, nuances etc.
I feel you're genuine and honest. I've watched quite a few other "reaction video" channels and it's rehearsed, pre formatted garbage.
You kids are the real deal..Keep it up! I used to weep for the future, musically anyhow, not so much now! :)
The Bat out of Hell is such a creative album , it really was a seminal work.
His concerts were epic, he left everything out there his energy was like no one else’s on stage! RIP Meat Loaf 😢
