One cool thing is that all of motorcycle sounds were done by Todd Rundgren on a guitar. No motorcycles were harmed in the making of this song.
All the guitar work is Todd. The production as well. Most of the members of Utopia played on this track.
Todd Rundgren is also the guy Liv Tyler thought was her Dad all through her childhood.
As someone with absolutely zero musical talent, how the hell is that done?
@@TheBlaert i'm pretty sure on this song he uses guitar with a whammy bar. you press the bar to lower the note and then let it come back up to get the revving sound. same thing on the intro to kickstart my heart by motley crue. you can probably do it by sliding up the neck but the whammy sounds better to me
ill bet the guitar was made to bleed... and its blood was....
.... chuck.. berry... red...
Meat loaf was the very definition of rock n roll. His death was a huge loss to the world.
Larger than life persona, a true shining star.
The album starts with that song and doesn't let up. Meat Loaf and Jim Steinmann understand love on a different level
One of my favourite albums. Two out of three ain't bad and for crying out loud and you took the words right out of my mouth... All great tracks. He's such a loss!
Long live Meat Loaf. His music and spirit lives on.
He will never be replaced.
You gotta do “For Crying Out Loud,” and “Objects In The Rearview Mirror.” Both are tissue friendly songs.
For crying out loud is Meatloaf unleashed!
Agree , my favourite o.j. performance of "Objects in the Rearview mirror" is this one m.ua-cam.com/video/xImIx1nwaS8/v-deo.html&pp=ygU-b2JqZWN0cyBpbiB0aGUgcmVhcnZpZXcgbWlycm9yIG1heSBhcHBlYXIgY2xvc2VyIHRoYW4gdGhleSBhcmU%3D , enjoy
Definitely. I recommended “For Crying Out Loud” on the last reaction.
Possibly the greatest rock "love" song ever pity there is not a video version I've ever seen only lyrical but it's a classic
For Crying Out Loud is my favorite Meatloaf song
I was fortunate enough to meet Meat Loaf at a convention in Sept 2021 a few months before he passed. He did a panel discussion where he explained: "I'm not a singer. I can't sing. I'm an actor and some of the characters I play can sing."
😊 That's awesome.
ngl I'm jelly AF. He was a legend.
Bat Out of Hell is such an incredible song. The composition, the vocals, the instruments, the lyrics - everything about it. Meat Loaf was one of a kind. The vocals at the end of this song also make me quite emotional, and it's so sad that he's no longer with us. He left behind quite a legacy and it's so refreshing to watch new people discover the wonder and sensation that is Meat Loaf. Great reaction.
Its the only song that really rivals Bohemian Rhapsody as a perfect combination of playing/singing/story-telling in a pop song.
Another song by Jim Steinman( the composer) I'm sure you'd love is Total Eclipse of the Heart. He describes it as a vampire love story.
Another Steinman song was "Holding Out for a Hero" that was recorded by Bonnie Tyler. Both songs were released during an extended period where Meat Loaf had lost his voice. Jim Steinman even recorded an entire album of songs during that time. He did a good job with the vocals.
Thank you for repping Steinman, people don't understand how important he was to the "Meatloaf sound". Everyone just sees Meat's name on the tracks and always gives him all the credit (not their fault exactly, it's all promoted under his name) but it starts with Steinman and would be nothing without his songs and style. Meatloaf was definitely the ultimate voice of Steinman's work though, that's for sure. Steinman, Meat, and Todd Rundgren are really the Holy trinity responsible for making what people think as "Meatloaf" what it is
This is still one of my absolute favorites from Jim Steinman, even though the singer is not really Diane Lane but Holly Sherwood.

@@dnazen Geniuses... All three of them!
Total Eclipse, "the literal version", is definitely worth a watch.
I saw Meatloaf live in 1990. It was loud and bombastic and my ears have never recovered. So happy I went to that gig.
Down in Texas at The Summit and LOVED every minute of it.
Tears came to my eyes at the end. He truly will be missed. Such a talent. Even stared in many movies and has done some Broadway and Musicals. Was in Rocky Horror Picture Show of course.
Eddie!!
And Dr Scott
@@stuartlivingstone1265no, he wasn't Dr. Scott.
For Crying Out Loud ( my Fave )......All Revved Up.....Took the Words ....Heaven Can Wait....2 out of 3 Ain't Bad....
Yes!
There are many great Meat Loaf songs, but this for me, will always be THE song.
I'm 73 and I was lucky enough to see him at a concert once, he absolutely owned everything he did. I have partied many a night to his music. So good to see a youngster like yourself be moved by his music. As long as his music is appreciated and loved, he will always be with us. Thank you for this reaction!
me too. saw him in Wembley UK in 1988. stunning, never forgotten. fabulous experience. took my 13 year old boy, he was blown away. RIP
A song that may be interesting to you is 'Two out of three (ain't bad)'
Also, the last movie I saw with him and Patrick Swayze was called Black Dog.
The reason this song brings me to tears is the story. He’s a young rebel, in love but also hell-bent on self destruction, finally finds his escape dying the way he lived, fast on a motorcycle.
Always wondered if the young boy lying in the gutter in the opening is a foreshadowing. Also love my skin is raw but my soul is ripe. Ah Steinman!!!
He was often asked 'Was he singer who acted ~ 0r an actor who sang'~ to which he would say he thought of himself as an actor first, but that he loved musical theater ~ so the
two required learning to deliver both well
Meat was and is a vocal god. On stage Meat would not only sing the songs but he would create a visual to draw you into what they are saying. He was an all around talent. Nobody has ever re created what Jim and Meat built...Meat...R.I.P.
Since the first time I heard this song I've thought that if I could sing like one man, it would be Meat Loaf. His combination of range, emotion, and power is just amazing.
The genius of one of the greatest song writers ever - Jim Steinman. A legend who is not remembered for his contribution to music and rock.
I'm an atheist, but I would say: "thank god for Jim Steinman", who gave us light in the disco era! RIP
Meatloaf can really pull the emotions out of anyone. He was an amazing performer and singer...
I was lucky enough to see him 4 times in concert mostly back in the 80s. He loved what he did, one of his gigs I saw lasted 4 hours, and we loved every second of it. He was brilliant live.
Timely, in that Total Eclipse of the Heart was written for Meat Loaf.
Truly this is one of the greatest rock albums of all time
This is one of those songs that gives me goose bumps as the song slowly builds then hits then builds again.
With Jim steinman's composing and writing the music and meatloaf delivering it on the stage I don't think there's ever been a better team in rock and roll.
I agree, the pairing was meant to be. The only other duo that approached this level was likely Elton and Bernie, but Elton was no Meatloaf.
Two great old stories on Meatloaf.
He was known to be like a wild bull set loose at the beginning of a show. He once kicked over a stacked row of folding chairs on the way to the stage.
He gave it all when performing. So much so he would collapse right off stage and require an oxygen bottle to keep from passing out at the end of a show. This became so regular that musicians he played with told stories about nearly stepping over him with a "Great show, Meat!" as they left the stage as well.
The song Bat Out of Hell (BOOH) was composed by Jim Steinman who wanted to write the ultimate motorcycle crash song which was inspired by the 50s song, Leader of the Pack. He succeeded.
In the video, both Bat Out of Hell and Paradise by the Dashboard Light, the audio for the female singer Karla DeVito was dubbed over with the studio vocals of Foley. So, it is both a live performance with Meat Loaf's vocals while DeVito's vocals were replaced by the studio vocals.
"Never pause during a piano solo." Meat Loaf rule for reactors. 🎵🎹 😉
Seeing the delight on your face as Meat lies in pit as his heart bursts out of his chest really made my day 😅. The album version is over 10 minutes long.
Yes! So fun to watch her succumb to the master!!
"ALL REVVED UP WITH NO PLACE TO GO" it's all that with a saxophone.
Edgar Winter, at that!
I think your next Meat Loaf song needs to be "For crying out loud". It's a masterclass in every way. Beginning to end, and every note in between! May he RIP
It is stunningly beautiful!
He became the character telling the story when he was sing the songs. A true thespian through and through. I will always love Meat Loaf
When my girlfriend and I went to see Meatloaf perform the Bat Out Of Hell tour in the summer of 1978 all we knew of him was his song "Two Out Of Three Ain't Bad" which was playing on the radio at the time. We were literally blown away with his performance and to this day it is one of my favourite concert memories! He actually also did a somersault up on stage between songs during the show!! Amazing, legendary man, RIP!
Meat loaf was a ton of voice power. And together with Jim Steinman who was the musical genuis who wrote the entire Bat Out of Hell album and many more mega songs for other artists, they were a dynamic duo! I love how he is Mr cool cat nonchalantly playing the piano in the video!
I rode the bus to school 7 miles from home at 8 yrs old....My bus driver had the speakers front middle and back thumping with this Iconic Masterpiece of an album from an 8-Track player! It wasn't long till I had every word of every song memorized and many of us would just belt the lyrics out with him until we wore that tape out.
The following year the cassette player took over the place where that old tape player was mounted and a brand new Bat Out of Hell album was the 1 and only cassette purchased at its birth!
Rock Opera....I'm 53 now, and I've owned countless copies .....
Please react to all the tracks on it beautiful!
This is the perfect blend of one of the best songwriters combined with a powerful voice and keen sense of how to perform. Bat Out of Hell is an amazing album.
Meat Loaf and yourself are similar in the sense that he left everything on stage with his amazing performances, and you leave everything for us in your video with your awesome reactions! Thank you, Aileen! 😊❤🫶
As an "old fart" Meatloaf fan (since the release of his first album in 1977), it really makes me happy to see younger folk enjoying his music and perpetuating his legacy. Rock on Aileen!
I feel as if a part of my youth died with the passing of this wonderful entertainer and genuine human being. Marvin Lee Aday (Michael) AKA Meatloaf your musical performances will live on! Thanks for the decades of memories. RIP Brother.
You’re right about the fact that he was approached for an operatic career with the operatic range of his voice but he turned them down to pursue his own path. And I’m glad he did! That’s Meatloaf! RIP Meatloaf ❤
The single mix for I'd Do Anything for Love (But I Won't Do That) is 5:25 but the album version is 12:01, more than double. They often have to shorten the songs for singles, radio edit or videos.
Though back then, there was a physical limit on what you could fit on a 7 inch disc. You could possibly squeeze 6 minutes on an old single at 45rpm but the audio quality would be totally compromised. Them grooves need space, you squish them, it sounds flat and even muddy. But then again record companies and radio play list organisers quite often agitated for short "single edits" even when this was not an issue (like 12 inch singles, CD Singles). Things like Bohemian Rhapsody happened very much without their permission.
Almost forgot to say thank you for taking a journey through my childhood haha, anything late 70's and all of the 80's I'm here for. Love the emotional response, it shows you actually felt the music.
One of the best rock albums EVER! I was in High School in New Jersey when this album came out, and I cannot even begin to tell you how popular it was! The songwriting and performances on this record were masterclass! P.S. Aileen, i'm 62, and this incredible, moving song still brings me to tears at times! It's that powerful and expressive!
Couldn't have said it better and For Crying out Loud. With Melbourne Orchestra and Patricia.
"Crying and smiling and laughing and completely captivated....."
Meat Load correctly enjoyed.
By far my favourite Meatloaf song of all time. Thank you for doing this so soon after "Paradise by the Dashboard Light". Appreciated!
The guitar solo Todd Rundgren did.. Late 70's and a strat. Just freaking awesome.
You want motorcycles, I'll give you motorcycles and into the recording booth and just cut the solo with all "engine revving" and straight into the lead.
2 out of 3 ain't bad is imo a must to check out :)
Great Reaction...... Meatloaf is a Legend.....
There are stories that Meatloaf would put so much effort into his stage perfomances, that it was comon after a performance for him to collaspe between the stage and dressing room, it was so common that staff would just bring him a pillow/cushion and water and not interupt him.
One of the greatest beach road cruise albums ever produced. Stereo up full bore, windows down, smell of salt in the air wind in your hair, sunnies on 😎
Look out world
Nuh us oldies love 'em longer than 3 minutes. 😅
He was one of a kind, his legacy does live on though, to a degree. One of his daughters is married to guitarist Scott Ian of Anthrax. It’s not really new news since they’ve been together for over a decade now I believe. But Scott and Meatloaf got along well, to the point that when he passed, Anthrax put up a memorial page on their site. It was quite heartwarming and showed a great deal of respect
I first saw Meat Loaf on SNL and was blown away. I grabbed his album as soon as it came out. A friend and I listened to the whole thing waiting for a bad track, but there wasn't one! Bat Out of Hell was on the top 100 list of album sales for 20 years! 43 million copies sold and 14x certified Platinum! That's how good it was. Rest In Power, Meat.
At the end where you cried was appropriate , it was about s motorcycle crash where the rider dies .
I was born in the 80s and Meatloaf had this funny combination of being great music but also being a bit goofy as well. It's funny to me now that nearly 50 years later people are appreciating him and his great talent. I think you might want to react to " 2 out of three aint bad" it's a classic, probably his best. But if you want to react to a hidden gem that he did it's called " You took the words right out of my mouth" it's probably my favourite song of his..
Do check out the full length album version (which is almost 10 minutes long at 9:50)(no studio video). The intro is worth your time (was cut for other media consumption (video, radio, etc.))..
That's Jim Steinman (primary song creator/writer) on piano and producer Todd Rundgren on the Motorcycle guitar. He did that in 1 take. (I think he did the guitar solos too, but I can't confirm it).
I still think this is their finest work/performance. (BTW, it is spelled Meatloaf as the copyright cover graphic is incorrect, though the 2 word version does pop up far too often).
Something that many don't know is that Meatloaf is an actor first, and each song is a character he plays. He uses a hand gesture (or some other trigger) between songs to change characters in his mind.
With just about any Jim Steinman songs, the album cut is usually the best.
@@jon-paulfilkins7820 That's very true.
Meat Loaf described himself as an actor that could sing, but most people thought he was an singer that could act. Makes sense though when you see his amazing stage presence.
Hey Aileen. “For Crying Out Loud” is a must reaction. Arguably the greatest love song ever written. X
I’ve worked in musical theatre the past 30 years and you are correct on his roots. Meat Loaf and Jim Steinman met at a musical audition. Meat had done “Hair” and “Rainbow” and he met Jim at an audition. Everything they collaborated on and created was bombastic, operatic, gothic, theatrical, and like nothing before or since. Jim also wrote an entire Batman musical which never was never fully staged. I would have loved to see that happen! These two were as original as they come! RIP
FANTASTIC reaction!. You were probably crying at the end, bc the protagonist in the song died in a motorcycle accident at the end on his way back to the woman he thought was just a one night stand, but wanted more. He had the affair and rode like bat out of hell leaving, then turned around to go back to her, then died in wreck on his way back. He then last saw his heart beating as his spirit left his body like a bat out of hell. Even if you didn't follow the lyrics, the way Meat Loaf sings it so emotionally passionate, the feelings hit you even if you don't consciously know what happened. This is actually my fav song from Meat Loaf, This song is epic.
This album was a huge part of my high school soundtrack. Even now I can still sing along with every song on the record.
Meatloaf was a performer in evey since of the word. RIP.
Watching you go through a gamut of emotions reacting to this audio visual work of art is why I keep coming back to your channel. Big smile, girlish giggle, dancing in your chair, then the tears at the end...you can't fake those emotions. Meatloaf is one of a kind and his loss is a loss to the world. Thank you Aileen, thank you so much.
He always gave his everything when he performed...
He was one of a kind, we will never get one alike again.....
R.I.P. Marvin Lee Aday aka Meat Loaf
For crying out loud on the same album is a must. One of the best performers ever, bought this album when it was released in 1977 and bought every album ever released since. Seen him live every time he visited the UK. Gone and very sadly missed but never ever forgotten.
Written by the late, great James "Jim" Steinman, may he Rest in Peace.
Please check out the Meatloaf song For Crying Out Loud. best love song ever written
One of the all time great showmen. The combination of Jim Steinman's writing and Meat Loaf's voice is perfect.
Love seeing you smile so big as you watched Meatloaf. It made me smile 😁
I’m the same as you, I always end up with tears in my eyes at the end of that song. The lyrics are very emotional at the end as the guy riding the bike has crashed & is dying. It’s just such an amazing song.
He loved his audience and felt like he owed them a passionate performance. He was Eddie in the original Rocky Horror Picture Show. Has a great song "Hot Patootie".
It's funny that you said the best Gothic play. He has a very memorable part in "Rocky Horror Picture Show"!
STEINMAN/MEATLOAF - INCREDIBLE TEAM
He'll yes, we are going to keep his name alive. I will never forget seeing him in concert in 2003. Thank you for loving Meat.
i don't think there's such a thing as a long Meatloaf song. That man can make a day feel like a minute.
The legend! The video advertising at the end of it is his song Rock n Roll Dreams. Highly recommended ❤
Tears with this legends music and performances is nothing to apologise for. Still remember as a kid building my own cruiser from a heap and then riding down the motorways for hours in the sunshine with Meat Loaf blaring and my reflection in the chrome side headlights showing the road behind slip away as the engine growls forwards into the future... Happy Days...
Bat out of hell the musical is in Las Vegas. It's cool to see Jim and Meatloaf's come to life in a Broadway musical, which is so awesome to watch.
Crazy thing about that motorcycle revving... that's actually a guitar. Such a unique and awesome solo that starts with that revving sound and slowly morphs into the guitar solo.
Todd Rundgren on guitar.
The pianist on this record, was Roy Bittan. The Pianist from Bruce Springsteen's East Street Band. Max Weinberg, also from Bruce's East Street Band, was the Drummer.
His name was Robert Paulson.
Loved it!
Bat Out of Hell I, II, III, and Welcome to the Neighbourhood, are my favorite albums. A man with a theatre background made his performances legendary
He did a fun duet with Cher... It's called Dead Ringer!
Outstanding album Bat out of hell is #6 on the all time selling albums list give a shot out to the late great Meatloaf ❤
He was also in The Rocky Horror Picture Show, and he had a part in The Fight Club.
he was in a Gothic Musical, the Rock Opera. . . . 'The Rocky Horror Picture Show' am sure you would enjoy that if you haven't already seen...
I got to see him back in 79 and it was the best concert I ever had seen. Thank you for the memories. ❤❤❤❤😊
One of those odd successes that don't make sense, but make so much sense to the millions who loved these songs. Bat Out of Hell was an album that struck while the iron was hot. Part rock, par theatre, part camp and excess, the album is one of the bestselling of all time. The songwriter is Jim Steinman and he went on to write ten more albums but nothing came close to the first one, Bat Out of Hell.
They made a Musical of all Steinman and Meat Loafs songs, Called Bat Out Of Hell. Jim never had the chance to see the musical. He died before it opened, but Meat Loaf did . He did theater before music. So he was an actor to.
Next Meatloaf: “Two out of Three Ain’t Bad”! ✌️
The power and passion of Meat Loaf really comes out on this song! Him and Jim Steinman made quite the pairing! This official video is lacking the long instrumental that opens the song, so I guess we can assume that it would have made the vid too long? Anyway it's my favorite by him!! Awesome reaction Aileen!!
Thanks so much Aileen! Another one of my favorites, that brings me back to being a teenager is YOU TOOK THE WORDS RIGHT OUT OF MY MOUTH.
Yes!
There will never be another one like him....
Unforgotten seeing him in the 80th in Nuremberg on the norisring open air beside Van Halen and ACDC 😃 greetings from Germany, Martin
From this same album: You took the words right out of my mouth.
We went to Rocky Horror last night and I cried when Eddie died. It was lovely to see him on the big screen larger than life.
You have summed it up perfectly.
Meatloaf is a legend
The energy in the last minute of this song is just insane.
47 years later and it still slays me. Every time. Which is a lot LOL.
Another song few people reference that he sang was "What Ever Happened to Saturday Night" from the Rocky Horror Picture Show. He sounded great, and of course, acted out the part superbly.
I love how emotionally you connect with the music. Please keep doing these reviews with your heart - it shows. And you should hit "Two Out of Three Ain't Bad" next. His second biggest hit after "I'd Do Anything..."
When I was a teenager in the 70s this was playing on the radio all the time along with every other hit off that album. Imagine cruising around in a 60s muscle car. Most likely drinking a beer and or smoking a joint... and listening to music like this on the radio. :) I lived That '70s Show lol
