Well, if you are, can I please get your opinion on Halo 5? Just your general opinion no need to go into real detail, but your honest opinion on what went wrong.
Thank you for the heart and passion. You went above and beyond instead of making a generic action movie soundtrack, you made music that touched the soul. Monks chanting, who would of thought? You sir are incredible.
Martin O'Donnell Oh my God, it’s Marty! You’ve created the music of my childhood. Me and the rest of the subscribers of r/halocirclejerk would like to thank you. Also, did you work on the Halo: Infinite music? The trailer’s music sounds a lot like Halo 3’s.
l am must agree, everyone is always concerned with their fucking graphics cards and framerates, lighting, textures, so many modern gamers are a fucking joke.
i am not completely disregarding that they aren't important, no one would ever let a game pass for playing at 4 fps. I am saying so many modern gamers ONLY care about having optimal graphic settings, so much so that they don't even know how much fun they're actually having with games, just as long as it looks good. Games are supposed to be fun, but so many others are just caught up in how it looks.
the copying of cod with halo 4 is when I fully understood that these people have no clue about halo at all... Then of course my views were only strengthened when they released a unfinished game known as MCC and a halo titles that lacked split screen known as H5. I wonder how shitty H6 is going to be? 10 bucks says they add something gay like wall running or take out something kool like team objective.
The first step in the right direction is Doom. The modern shooter that UNDERSTANDS that it's a video game and is therefore an incredibly fun video game, instead of a "gritty and realistic" piece of shit.
+The Macaroni Chronicles No I'm 100% serious. Recently a lot of shooters, have been trying to make their games "realistic" and making them not fun in the process. Doom however prioritises fun over all else.
343's games aren't even good competitive games. They have the allure of being a competitive game by emulating sports programs but when it comes down to it the games are full of crazy bullet magnetism, randomness, bad movement, bad maps, and a ton of other shit that makes them bad competitive games.
@@MezMez They don’t realize that it is nearly impossible to build a game centered around competitiveness. You need to have flawless mechanics and perfectly fair interactions. 99 percent of great games at the competitive level started out as casual experiences. The passion for those games is what creates the competitive market. Build a great game, the community will take care of the rest.
@@Rob-b2q8punreal tournament is a great example of that. The 3rd game is super casual but is taken very seriously now by the community, due to being so fun and fair
You can tell the difference just in how they talk, with bungie being super chill and casual about it, using everyday words, and 343 being super corporate and using this complex words so the people watching think it's important and smart
I think It's the people making the video, scripting them to say what they think the audience wants. Big corporations tend to do this with big advertising departments. They make it so flashy and clean because they can, which loses some of the 'honest quality' behind it all.
Yeah. It's like 343's talk somehow feels robotic. Un-natural. It just makes me gloss over their crap and never listen to it. I personally felt some of the Bungie's feelings behind it. It's almost personal. Like there is drive, abit of passion in how they talk.
I mean, you can't bs on gameplay on E3 unless ur no man's sky and then we can return the game. However everyone BSes on graphics and have random ppl reading from a script to distract you from the fact that no one is doing anything different since ps2
I don't know why you're randomly talking about Bonnie Ross being sexist or whatever as that hardly has anything to do with what Giddy cypress is talking about but okay... You're right though. Ex bungie was pretty good. Bungie now pretty much sucks. And 343 has always pretty much sucked lol. Okay... Maybe that's not fair. They are okay now... But not great like halo 1,2,3, and Reach.
Isiskos Aw yeah I love to grind with no real purpose but to get better weapons and experience shit dlc with a forgettable storyline and the only way to learn the lore being the grimoire cards.. that was my shit
2001-2010 Bungie was honestly legendary, I'm so glad I got to experience that era growing up. Unfortunately, as soon as the money making potential of the gaming industry was realized the corporate bastards decided to milk it dry instead of producing genuine content. That's why all of the magic is lost today.
@Kimi Timoskainen no....thats not true. You don't understand. The campaign was really enjoyable. I loved it infact. Yeah the multiplayer doesn't have content. But it's still very fun. To me. I really enjoyed infinite.
@Kimi Timoskainen ehhhh....your right. Although I kinda ment the campaign, not the multiplayer. I did have fun with the multiplayer. But yeah, not many people playing. due to lack of content. I don't really play multiplayer often anyway. But. Its really all about the campaign for me, and for that. I think 343 did something pretty decent. Yeah no coop or forge yet. Which would have made it better. But it will come.
@@Welipe Aye. Nintendo has quite a few flaws as a company, but by God do they make good games. I guess putting more effort into a game's mechanics and making it fun is better than new and improved visuals.
It still amazes me how Halo 2, a game that was rushed and put together by people who are burnt out but keep pushing, ended up being better than a whole trilogy made by a company with a bigger budget, more people and about a decades worth of time. I swear 343 had never played Halo until they get the rights to the game
My favorite bit from this has to be watching the Bungie team play testing halo together and just going crazy, and then we pan over to 343 who are testing out opening loot boxes together.
Greed. Makes me so fucking sad. Halo could STILL be amazing.... I wish someone had the money and proper individuals to take back the Halo franchise, and keep the legacy that Bungie created moving.....
Dude, i almost cried in some of the final bungie's scenes when they talk about the detail and trying harder and harder to make the game the best possible, you can feel the dedication when a guy says: "i see the cinematics over and over and im asking myself, does this have something that keep the player watching instead of just skip it?", That's the old game industry, pure dedication to make a beautiful experience, now ist just the basic to sell a game. I miss the real game industry.

Modern high budget games in a nutshell. Not saying older devs were perfect in any way, but there has been an obvious shift from passion, dedication and delivering something unique, fun into shiny plastic graphics, that looks flashy in trailers, looks over gameplay, sticking with formulas known to sell well, games without any depth. A sad, bitter shift indeed.
ShadowBrony I think 343 focused on fun too much and they forgot the serious bits like the story. The multiplayer which was supposed to be fun, was competitive maps. And just like that one Bungie developer said, "if you think your game is fun, it's not." You have to really think about your game and what can go, what can stay, and what needs to be implemented to make it even better.

Bungie back then had talent and didn't seem to want to rape our wallets nearly as badly as 343 does. We would gladly give halo tons of money today if it was still... You know... GOOD?!?!?!?!!!! I have bought multiple copies of all the bungie halo titles. Can't say the same for 343s halo games. Haven't gotten any newer halo games since halo 4 lol. That one left a bad taste in my mouth. The problem is that the games are pretty "meh" under 343. Maybe not big riggs or super man 64 bad but still.... They are pretty bad especially when it comes to price. Gaming was cheaper once upon a time and wages used to be better so to see micro transaction trash like halo 5 flood the market is really just faggot shit lol. Don't forget guys... This is the company that sold us a 60 dollar drink coaster known as MCC. And then while failing to fix it to this very day... 343 came out to tell us that Halo 5 wouldn't suck like MCC lol. That's sad when you have to come out and tell us that your next game wont suck like your last game hahahaha. Here's the real funny part... Halo 5 did suck and still sucks even after updates. Shit story, codlike gameplay, weak/lack of content... especially at launch, micro transactions, and broken modes/glitches within forge, theater, and fire fight. The game really had a "we will fix it later with updates and patches" approach and they never really did fulfill that mind set with halo 5. The "free dlc" sounded nice but in reality it wasn't nice at all... The free DLC is just stuff that the game should have launched with. Clearly the game wasn't ready. They shouldn't launch a unfinished game. Makes for a bad first impression and shows that they are greedy. Also... Games that get updated can get better yeah sure... But that hardly ever happens and 343 sure as shit never seems to be able to pull it off. If they some how pull off a miracle and make halo 6 as good as a bungie halo game that doesn't have a super cod cloned feel to the game play, comes as a finished game, and doesn't have wallet raping... Then I will kiss 343s ass but lets get real here guys... THAT WONT HAPPEN LOL! RIP HALO! 2001- to whenever the fuck 343 started fucking shit up big time... Which is pretty much right when halo 4 launched and we got to see how crappy they truly are.
Yeh, same. The only Halo games I haven't played are Halo 2 and 5 (I also never properly played through ODST), but still, they were a big part of my childhood and I used to play deathmatch in CE a lot with my brother.
You can tell they really cared too. "If you think that what you're making is the greatest thing ever all the time, then it's not gonna be the greatest thing ever." If only most devs still had that attitude, not even just Halo 3. Bungie were the realist niggas around.
The composer who talked about sitting alone, running into that moment of self-doubt before it all finally clicks and you figure it out... That convinced me he wrote the music from the heart, even if I never heard it before.
True. Games used to be made by nerds with a deep passion. Then big business saw how profitable it was and moved in, shifting game creation from something made by passion to something made purely for the cash. games are soulless now. Look at old studios, they were like nerd caves. When the devs interacted with their communities it wasn't a copy/pasted reply or seem like it was coming from a bot. Now its all corporate.
10:30 this is probably one of if not THE biggest reason that bungie’s halo was more fun. It’s like a group of casual gamers got together and decided to make a game. Halo was something everyone could enjoy.

I love how it shows 343 talking about how competitive the atmosphere of the multiplayer is and then it cuts to bungie talking about how the multiplayer is meant to be played with your friends and family and have fun and laugh together
I don't think companies should design games to be competitive, just like smash bros if you make a fun game made to play and laugh with friends then the competitive scene will develop on it's own.

They could’ve just increased movement speed by 1 and avoided the whole problem. Armor abilities made sense in Reach since those Spartans were weaker in canon, but including it in a game where you play as a Spartan with the latest armor, it doesn’t make any fucking sense. The climb mechanic was a shit decision as well.
@@beefs0ck911 I want you to explain how them making it easier to traverse your environment in satisfying and meaningful ways is a bad mechanic? there's an unbelievable amount of times in Halo 3 where I just wished that I could grab and scramble up a ledge or it felt like Chief should be able to sprint. Like after chief kills guilty spark and has to leave quickly, running across that bridge, chief SPRINTS in the cutscene. the only thing I could think was, "a super soldier, with cybernetic super armor, just now learned how to sprint after 3 games?" I mean it's strange that it took so long to add climb and sprint when they both felt like they belonged since the beginning. Built in boosters, better movement and sprinting is the best changes to Halo ever. 343 did plenty of horrible things to Halo but fixing the overly heavy and slow chief from 3 is not one of them.
@@2lycos yes the argument of "HES A SUPER SOLDIER HE CAN SPRINT!!" lmao, so we need to have realism? Not to mention the fact that guess what, if clamber was added in halo 3 all the ledges you weren't able to get on now would just be raised so you couldn't even clamber to get on. Map design buddy.
Broke my heart seeing Bungie start talking about the couch experience towards the latter half of the video, everything is so artificially competitive now adays and no one focuses on that unique approach to games before where we were all a bunch of dudes sitting on the couch and yelling our asses off when we lost/won. Something modern multiplayer gaming have lost touch of over the years.
It's honestly hard to disagree with you. I can still have fun with some Call of Duty with friends and family. But, yeah multiplayer games feel a bit different today.
Waking up on Saturday with no voice left because of how much screaming/laughing you did playing H3 on a Friday night will always be one of my fondest memories.
The only multiplayer game to actually kinda of create that feeling over online was modern warfare 2. You join a lobby, and boom you got 30 different people all simultaneously shit talking each other and having a good old time.
Indeed, I have so many fond memories of Halo multiplayer split screen with my brother on Xbox. Nowadays, a lot of online multiplayer gaming has devolved into a lot of people just watching wealthy streamers screaming their asses off.
Now I know who fucked up Halo, the director said he wanted "an emotional halo" jeez, they turned an epic story into a Mexican novela but even Mexican novelas have a good story.
It's a small thing really, but I can't help but notice how 343 work in this huge slick studio that looks really incredible while Bungie are toiling away in what can be politely described as a fairly modest office. It's almost like a metaphor for the games - the newer set is shiny and superficial, while the others don't look quite as nice, but have so much more depth, focus and character.
Marma you realize bungie had been gutted, taken out back and old yeller’d by that point do you? Once Joseph Staten got scrapped after he pitched his idea for D1’s story (apparently Activision thought it’s too complicated for a shoot em’ up), that was all she wrote.

@@GillisonsIsland An entirely different team worked on Reach to, you know that right? Hence why it was also a pile of shit. At least we have 343 to save Halo from the destruction Bungie brought upon it from a $60 ODST expansion pack, to the disaster that was Reach.
+Nighterlev The Bungie dev team that worked on Reach still had most of the leads that worked on previous Halo games like Halo 3 and even Halo 2. It was after Reach that Bungie lost most of these people, and only a handful of original Halo devs worked on the Destiny games. THAT was an entirely different team. Also, how was Reach a disaster again? It managed to sell more copies than Halo 3 (generating $200 million in its first day), it was very highly rated (91/100 on Metacritic), maintained a decently sized population for a pretty long period of time (after a year it had a 900,000 peak population) and is still played to this day (with a population between 3k and 6k concurrent players). If you consider Reach to be a disaster then I wonder what you must think of 343s Halo games which fared poorly in all of thee categories. Let's talk actual numbers: Roughly a year after release, Halo 3 had a 1.1 million peak population day, Reach had a 900,000 peak population day after the same amount of time while Halo 4 clocks in at 20,000 peak for it's annual checkup and even if Halo 4 had a larger population at launch compared to Reach it managed to fall to below that of Reach in only six months, Halo 4 lasted a whole two entire months in the Top 3 of the Xbox Live activity chart, Halo 3 didn't fall out of the Top 3 until Halo Reach released, 3 years after it's release and Halo Reach didn't fall out of the Top 3 until 343's title update for the game after they took over the game, 12 months after release. Also, Halo 5s beta was only played by around a million players, with 2.5 hours of playtime per player and a total game time of 2.5 million hours compared to Reach's 2.7 million players, 5.9 hours per player and 16 million hours total game time.

You do realize a far lesser amount of the OG Bungie dev team worked on Destiny, then the OG Bungie dev team worked on Halo 4, right? Halo 4 even sold more with around 9.8-9.9 million copies sold. Reach by far didn't hold a decent sized population at all, the entire game died after a year and became a ghost town by the time Halo 4 released. No body was even playing it until it became backwards compatible for the Xbox One because a 1080p 60fps enhancement of Reach hasn't happened yet (if ever). 343's Halo games are even rated higher then Reach LOL WHAT. Halo 4 easily has the best Halo campaign by far to date, with Halo 5's multiplayer easily being the most vast selection of game types, forge maps, and more. Halo 5's beta was also plagued by the horrible MCC net code at the time, not only that but not many people really bought MCC either compared to the likes of Crackdown. If i'm not mistaken, it sounds like as time evolved, the foundation for game design went from "What makes a game fun" to "what makes a game look good" . I think the reason why the OG halo series created by bungie was so successful was simply because they made the blueprint *fun* first *everything else* second.
The sad thing is, the ideology of "what makes a game look good" is still a big selling point to a lot of gamers nowadays. Sure we're starting to move away from it but if you'd ask most casual gamers and even some hardcore gamers which game they'd play more, the game that looks good or the game that plays good, they'd choose the former.
John Smith this is due to innovation in technology. Back then when people would play at probably 10 FPS with 144p 😂there was no nice visuals. This made the game companies try much harder on great game mechanics.
@@gibble1176 This is so completely obvious that I don't even know why you commented this fact in the first place. What I'm getting at is, you don't JUST play a game for the visuals. If that was the case, then it could be just a movie and it won't be any different. The gameplay and story matters for a video game to succeed. Yet, people still get sold just for visuals alone. And that's why companies focus on the graphics and initial trailers and marketing FIRST then the gameplay afterwards (Look at Anthem for example)

@Kimi Timoskainen Yeah, and that kind of expresses what's happened with 343i. I mean, besides being run by corporate ghouls. Remember what happened when Halo was top of the heap? Everyone tried to ape Halo. By the time 343i was put in charge, Halo was still up there, but it was no longer the undisputed lord of online multiplayer. And that meant corporate pulling on the leash and telling the devs what the game had to be more 'like'. i.e. make it like Call of Duty, make it like Fortnight, chase the trend. If someone had come to the execs and laid out the original Halo Design document, all the little details and said 'THIS! is why the multiplayer was good!' The answer would be something like 'yeah, that looks complicated and I don't understand, and share holders, safer to just put in some more novelty hats, those sell well! Oh, and a I big tournament promotional event!'
@Kimi Timoskainen It's not the pizza skin that's the problem. It's who delivered it. If that pizza skin was delivered by the Bungie of old, it would have been hilarious and awesome. Because Bungie earned the right to do silly things like that. 343 has not earned that right. And they never will. That's what the real problem is.
Because it’s never a logical way for the series to attract new players, it always has to be “we made it play like something else entirely” and it always ends up selling worse.

Halo Reach is the worst Halo game to date, no doubt about it. More content? My ass LOL. It's story was over-all the worst as well, bottom of the barrel over-all. Halo 4 had way more content to play and see then Reach did at all. Hell, Halo 4's forge alone was a slight improvement of Reach's, and it's custom game options were widely the same (besides some problems with the Infection game type that is) The only problem with Halo 4 was that it had to many similarities to Reach, causing it to over-all die. It's gameplay though was essentially Halo 2's when you get rid of all the loadouts, AA's and such. Halo 4 also had a wayy better story then any of the Halo games to date. Halo 5 improved upon Halo 4 in terms of the content, it just took 343 much longer to release all of the content over a year due to the fact that they essentially had to recreate the story from scratch a year upon release due to Microsoft's own doings, which essentially you got the story you have today. Nothing to do with 343 at all.
+Dan Beucler I mean it's not a shit post. Those are just the facts. Only way to end the bandwagon is fight against it. Insignificant? Sounds like the people who hate on 343i.
Halo 3 STILL holds up. It still plays great, it still looks great and the score is still top notch. A legendary game, especially for those of us who were there on our 360's shouting at each other. It was my, and many other's first ever experience of proper online gaming. Completing the campaign on legendary splitscreen with my friend is a lasting memory for me. 343 just doesn't get it.
Pretty much, Halo 3 was probably one of the best and most feature complete games I have ever played. I can't think of many other games where putting "Complete multiplayer experience" on the multiplayer disk wouldn't sound like hubris but halo 3's multiplayer definitely earned that. Sadly 343 fucked it up with MCC by having us play it through their sloppy slow disorganised menu system and shit matchmaking system. It's just not the authentic complete Halo 3 experience that it should have been purely because of 343's incompetence.
I think the main difference is that Halo wasn't just bungie's game, it WAS bungie. Nobody needed to define what Halo was, because it was the people who worked there (at least the people in charge of creative decisions anyways). When it moved to 343, even though a lot of bungie staff moved over, 343 still had the pressure of "making another Halo game," and people had to sit down with the new team structure and actually define what a Halo game was, and not only could they not create anything new, they were also just trying to recreate something that had already been done while battling the pressure to "innovate" from Microsoft IE: make more money and appeal to more players. You can hear this REPEATEDLY in these interviews. Bungie almost never said "we wanted to make it like Halo" they only ever said "we wanted to make it good," while 343 constantly just says "we wanted to recreate that Halo experience"
G Truesdale Activsion destroyed idea and story of how original Destiny was meant to be and Microsoft destroyed Halo with these out of touch developers. nothing new here, giant publishers stomping on and destroying real passionate developers until theres nothing left but standard employees with zero passion or chemistry. thats why every game nowadays feels uninspired, soulless, stale, etc...
Old Bungie & Old Infinity Ward! We should bring them back to the industry! Lol they're probably all old but still could make a better game then these new publishing groups..
MY LE NOSTALGIA. DEVELOPERS MADE THESE TRIPLE A TITLES AS A CHARITY TO THE FANS, IT WAS NEVER ABOUT THE MONEY, NOW ITS ONLY ABOUT DA MONEY. Gimme a break. There are plenty of triple A titles with fantatsic developer support and a slew of indie games as well. Just because Cod and Shattlefield are getting progressively greedier doesn't mean the whole industry is.
Lol, love the editing 3:09 - 343 shows off great graphics for the promethean shit... 3:23 - Bungie talks about how graphics are worthless if its not fun to play (which defines prometheans perfectly)
Grunts are way better enemies than the hometheans. They are funny cannon fodder but if you're not careful they might surprise you with a frg round to the face or a nade here and there. The robot alien things suck though... Watchers and dogs are just annoying. The dog things are basically buggers without wings. NO ONE likes fighting the buggers. Glad they toned them down after halo 2 and 3/odst. It's a shame that 343 basically replaced them with those stupid dogs... The watchers are very annoying. Some times they just swarm you in mass. They can't die very easily. The throw nades back at you. And the bring the big ones back to life as well as put up gay little shields. A challenge I suppose but a frustration at the same time... The big beetle guys are the worst though. They teleport randomly which slows down the fight pace a whole lot. Often you have to keep fucking looking for them to fight them. It's also a silly enemy when you think about it. Why doesn't one just teleport behind chief and simply stab him in the heart? It's silly and doesn't make a fun enemy. And finally the biggest problem I have with them is what they are. They are these emotionless robot alien trash can discount decepticon things... When I fight demons in doom I feel as though I'm fucking up monsters. When I fight terrorists in army of 2 I feel like I'm killing my fellow man. When I fight aliens in star craft I feel like I'm killing a race of intelligent life forms from another world that's similar to my own. When I fight the homoetheans I feel like I might as well be kicking a tin can. The fun and interest isn't nearly as high...
I've been saying this exact thing for years. I swear i never feel the need to play 4,5 or halo wars 2 because 1 through reach all did what they needed to do. The only thing I could possibly say 343 did right was the artsyle in halo wars 2 because it popped like CE did.
Stopped? Maybe. I don't know, I'd have loved more spin-offs and content, but I'd have preferred it without the Master Chief. He should have retired in his cryo pod for the rest of the series with Cortana keeping him company. Would have been a bit depressing, but he doesn't know how to live a normal life and Cortana was always destined for rampancy. Unless someone like 343 pulls a fucking deus ex machina and cures her rampancy while making her fucking evil for no reason at all except to piss off fans and stir up a shitty story *no one liked.* ODST is a great example of how the series could have continued. As is Reach. New characters revisiting scenarios we had already seen or heard about, expanding on the world. Maybe some story content post-Covenant, but nothing quite to the scale of Halo's past with galactic genocide.
@Dug Dug I just don't believe anyone but Bungie can really do his character justice. He's a huge part of Halo like Johnson and Cortana. All three should have been retired so that companies like 343 couldn't drag them through the mud. Luckily for us Johnson's dead.
@Dug Dug I... really don't see why you'd think that given 343's history and the fact that we've only seen a rather pitiful scrap of Infinite's story (complete with monologuing). But I won't argue. If you wanna be hyped for the game, that's your right. I try to see the bright side of any Halo game, even 4 and 5, the former of which I did not particularly enjoy and the latter... I don't want to talk about 5.
Bungie: We’re just a small, wholesome company that just wants to make a great game. 343: Here’s a bunch of bullshit and fancy words so you think what we’re doing is groundbreaking but what we’re really doing is choosing how characters enter the scene and some new stuff that no one wanted or asked for. Also *PIIIIIZZZAAAAAAAA*
Bungie was just vibing dudes making a cool game, and 343 went nuclear on the reason behind the game rather than the effort it takes to actually make the damn thing
Bungie: how can we make this level fun to play and make it so that it never gets repetitive? 343: how can we make this look pretty and get boring after a few play throughs?
Retroflection yet bungie made halo reach, adding in what they thought would be cool, and ruined their entire franchise in one fell swoop. It's all well and good blaming 343 for everything, but pay some attention and you'll see that the beginning of the end was with reach. Sprint, armor abilities, weapon bloom, no real rank system, shitty bland forge made maps. NO. FUCK bungie. They ruined halo forever. And now they're making one of the worst franchises of our modern day. Destiny. Garbage company.
You're an excellent storyteller. You juxtapose the humble Bungie devs trying their hardest to make a fun game with the hubris of the 343 team who constantly huff their own farts and can't get enough of themselves
While I broadly agree . . . This does need a sanity check. You're not wrong, but I think it's possible to go too far and lose perspective of the diagnosis. We're comparing promotional material, released by marketing specialists trying to hype and sell an upcoming game, to a development documentary packaged as extra content with old school collectors editions, that would mostly only be seen by fans of the game who had already bought their collector's edition copy. The videos were made for completely different purposes. Of course the 343 devs are hyping it up. They were probably told to, specifically, or they were asked leading questions like 'what are especially proud of in the game'. Back in the day, we didn't have youtube, we barely had G4, the hype for Halo 2 was carried in magazine Articles. I still have some of those, and Bungie ABSOLUTELY claimed that game was the second coming of Christ in interviews. "Like Halo but wrapped in bacon and on fire!" Was something that Bungie devs unironically said about Halo 2 back in the day. XD
Those Bungie devs knew they were sitting on a good game so by acting self-critical they are being humble winners. The 343 devs know they're sitting on a pile of trash and they're self-consciously trying to cover it up. And in a way it's not even their fault, at least not most of them. They're simply the wrong people for the job. I still remember some manager type early on bragging about hiring people who don't like Halo. Talk about a red flag. Who knows what type of game they would rather make, maybe Call of Duty, maybe Titanfall, maybe not even a shooter. But everything they touch turns into not-Halo. Then when the cameras start rolling they have to praise Halo again and it gets awkward. They're that pet that looks regretful about scratching the sofa but as soon as you leave the room he does it again. They can't help themselves but sabotage everything that could lead to their game actually feeling like Halo because they have never appreciated Halo and never will. Let them create their own game. Halo is nothing but a golden cage to them.
@@forasago That manager was Frank O'Conner. Bungie's former community manager turned 343 employee. He did admit that they had people who never liked Halo. He also played a part of butchering this franchise too.

Bungie are a bunch of money-hungry whores! So suck it ever play Destiny? Bungie lost the rights to Halo for good reason. I hope they lose their company soon as well.
Who doesn't like spending more money to customise your game? Imagine if you had everything already unlocked, then none of the skins would be interesting but instead just reflect on your personality instead. AND IDGAF ABOUT YOUR PERSONALITY, MATE!
When people used to tell me that Reach should have been the last Halo game, I disagreed with them. I told them that 343i would create great things. How wrong I was... Rest in Peace, my former favourite franchise...
I feel like Bungie was a close knit group of people who weren’t afraid to tell each other when something sucks, versus 343, who are probably too scared to contradict each other, and instead just nod and clap their hands to whatever idea their higher-ups come up with cause telling someone the work they did isn’t good is just “too toxic of a work environment”
Bungie: "here's this tiny, almost unnoticable animation that adds more character than a flashy eyesore explosion will ever have." 343: "Here's this flashy eyesore explosion. Aren't we just the greatest?"
343 completely altered their art style, music, and gameplay for Halo infinite, and then proceeded to responsibly delay the game to address problems players had with it. 343 definitely cares for the Halo community.
@@juicedbeetlejuice4572 That's after making two abysmal games in Halo 4 and 5. Not to mention the disaster that was the Master Chief Collection. Honestly it would be great to have 343 release a good Halo game but at this point they've probably had the IP for as long as Bungie did and yet have produced nothing but disappointments that have only detracted from the franchise. Its going to take them a while to earn fan trust and respect again.
@@juicedbeetlejuice4572 lmfao this guy clearly works for Microsoft. The reason they delayed Infinite is bc 343 finally realized that their lazy derivative vision of Halo doesn’t mesh with the fans’ desires… It doesnt mean they can fix it, even if they wanted to; they don’t even know what was rotten let alone how to fix it. They’re just paying lip service to old fans. Infinite is going to be some zoomer-targeted liveservice f2p battle royale game. The multiplayer will be free… You think people will spend $60 on the single player? Lol neither does 343…. Expect loot boxes. Don’t expect Halo.
Real gamers don't give two shits what we look like so long as the game is fun. I'm playing kirbys super star for fucks sake lol. You don't exactly have character customization and you don't look like a knight in shining armor but who cares??? It's fun! That's all that matters.
Hey guys we need more items in the game, what the easiest, most cheap way to sell them? Loot boxes. Ok but we still need more shit, ok just copy png of pizza and put it on BR. Excellent idea! Who needs custom skin creators anyway! Who needs forge on month 1 of release not already installed on the disc that's already over 60 gigabytes! Pshh custom map file share? What's that? Mini games? Let's reuse forge made maps because making polished developer made maps is too much work. Also let's make every armour, every gun, every vehicle as uninteresting as possible! Reskins and recycling is what we do best!
1:38 has she even PLAYED halo 2? the entire story plays on the fact that cheif is a husk and arbiter is driven by faith and honor and they, as polar opposites, have to work together
@@anson2389 i feel like nop... the good thing with how masterchief act... is he's never annoying or cringe... when he talk... he say something badass and trying to make him humain break everything
Master chief had also had multiple games to grow as a character, that blank husk worked perfectly for inserting us into the game/universe in CE but he is a very different character by the end of Halo 3. 343 has some story writting issues without question but I'm personally okay with the direction they are taking cheif as a whole.
And that's the glory of it, imagine being a marine in your youth making you a mentally damaged, angry, quiet person who realizes years later you are still human and that's worth trying to be. That's what's great about Halo 4. It's clearly a representation of what real veterans go through and does so in an emotional way for those who played since the beginning
Bungie's chemistry really seems like lightning in a bottle, they're so nonchalant about the entire process that they take it in stride when their ideas get shot down, which ultimately leads to a more refined game where only the very best aspects of development made it in. At 343, you get the impression that everyone takes themselves seriously, that they think they're prodigious for even having gotten their job, and because of that they'll spend years polishing a bad idea because no one was willing to take the axe to it
I mean just look at what they did. For Halo 4 they HAD to change the art direction for the covenant, they HAD to make a new enemy that wasnt the flood. Halo HAD the be THEIRS, and Halo had to be better than Bungie's Halo. They have their heads shoved so far up their ego filled asses and it shows with how terrible 4 (and the other one we dont talk about) was. They care about being right, not doing right by the material, and the customer.
According to some things I've heard from Bungie, they frequently butted heads with Microsoft. When they were first acquired, their new owners tried moving them into one of their standard, boring offices but Bungie refused, and when they eventually did move in, they just tore the walls out and made it an open space. They don't do business casual, they had extremely fun company wide events like the Pentathlon (bring it back) and lots of fun little bits of culture about them. Hell, just take a look at their Happy Halodays post card and you'll see the personality and celebration of their work oozing out of it. Halo can't work without Bungie. You need that Chemistry. And it's a shame 343 is made by people who absolutely loath Halo to the bitter end.

わるよ歩み framerates are important for a cinematic and smooth experience. Imagine playing Call of Duty 4 at a whopping 4fps. It would be unplayable
i am not completely disregarding that they aren't important, no one would ever let a game pass for playing at 4 fps. I am saying so many modern gamers ONLY care about having optimal graphic settings, so much so that they don't even know how much fun they're actually having with games, just as long as it looks good. Games are supposed to be fun, but so many others are just caught up in how it looks.
the removal of split screen was when I fully understood that these people have no clue about halo at all.
the copying of cod with halo 4 is when I fully understood that these people have no clue about halo at all...
Then of course my views were only strengthened when they released a unfinished game known as MCC and a halo titles that lacked split screen known as H5. I wonder how shitty H6 is going to be? 10 bucks says they add something gay like wall running or take out something kool like team objective.

@@MezMez
They don’t realize that it is nearly impossible to build a game centered around competitiveness. You need to have flawless mechanics and perfectly fair interactions. 99 percent of great games at the competitive level started out as casual experiences. The passion for those games is what creates the competitive market. Build a great game, the community will take care of the rest.

One of the reasons I praise old Bungie is because they were literally just a bunch of nerds with a passion for making games.
Thank you BananaFist for being one of the few smart people that sees such a obvious thing. 343s business practices all pretty much scream "We just want your money and don't care about your game"
Seeing the 343 devs all self-congratulatory over seeing their bloody lootbox system is all that needs to be shown or said about how much they don't care about actually playing or enjoying games seriously

True. Games used to be made by nerds with a deep passion. Then big business saw how profitable it was and moved in, shifting game creation from something made by passion to something made purely for the cash. games are soulless now.

I dont have a problem with sprint on reach tbh... But i understand people who hate it... When i play halo 2 i dont feel like i need to sprint
@@2lycos yes the argument of "HES A SUPER SOLDIER HE CAN SPRINT!!"

Not to mention the fact that guess what, if clamber was added in halo 3 all the ledges you weren't able to get on now would just be raised so you couldn't even clamber to get on. Map design buddy.

Once Joseph Staten got scrapped after he pitched his idea for D1’s story (apparently Activision thought it’s too complicated for a shoot em’ up), that was all she wrote.
he's talking about how the people who worked on halo 1,2,3 are pretty much not the people who worked on destiny. When people say bungie sucks now because of destiny while thinking the devs at bungie are the same people who were at the company in 2007 is like saying the lakers suck now and blaming it on kobe bryant even though he doesnt play anymore.
@@TheMasterMind144 The amount of misinformation in your comment is horrendous...
No, the Bungie dev team that worked on Reach had none of the leads from the original Halo titles. Hell, the original leads for Halo 1, 2, and 3 were no where to be seen for Reach.
You do realize a far lesser amount of the OG Bungie dev team worked on Destiny, then the OG Bungie dev team worked on Halo 4, right?
Reach by far sold FAR less copies then Halo 3, easily less then 4-5 million less (you forget Halo 3 ended up selling around 14.7 million copies from the last sales report. Reach only got up to 9.7).
That pretty much self explains it-self as to why the Reach beta ended up having more players at all.

The gameplay and story matters for a video game to succeed. Yet, people still get sold just for visuals alone. And that's why companies focus on the graphics and initial trailers and marketing FIRST then the gameplay afterwards (Look at Anthem for example)

Hakim Ben Wasn't discussing Destiny or post-halo-bungie team here
+Hakim Ben The team who made Destiny was completely different from the ones who made Halo. Most left or we're pushed out by corporate. Halo 3 was realized in 2007 whilst Destiny came out in 2014, that's 7 years. Is your life the same as it was 7 years ago? The company isn't even the same anymore and the direction is different now.
In my head canon, Chief is still waiting in space for Cortana to say "Wake up Chief, I need you".
Honestly I don't consider any of the 343 games or books to be canon.
There are a surprising number of FanFictions which continue from that point and are surprisingly interesting.
It's a shame 343's games aren't.
In my head, Master Chief is only dreaming of everything that happens in Halo 4-5-6.
I almost shed a tear lol
Maybe in the future another company will continue halo and will erase the new halo cannon and make a true halo 4
Ex-Bungie: "Game needs to be fun to play first."

nothing wrong w wacky skins but i get what u mean
@Kimi Timoskainen exactly. Imagine being another spartan, and you get your skull caved in by a mister chief shotgun.
A better version of the last sentence: F*CK YOU GIVE ME MONEY
@Kimi Timoskainen Yeah, and that kind of expresses what's happened with 343i. I mean, besides being run by corporate ghouls.
Remember what happened when Halo was top of the heap? Everyone tried to ape Halo.
By the time 343i was put in charge, Halo was still up there, but it was no longer the undisputed lord of online multiplayer.
And that meant corporate pulling on the leash and telling the devs what the game had to be more 'like'.
i.e. make it like Call of Duty, make it like Fortnight, chase the trend. If someone had come to the execs and laid out the original Halo Design document, all the little details and said 'THIS! is why the multiplayer was good!'
The answer would be something like 'yeah, that looks complicated and I don't understand, and share holders, safer to just put in some more novelty hats, those sell well!
Whenever I hear "expanding the audience" or "appeal to a new audience" it's always the heads up that the game I once enjoyed is now no more.
Because it’s never a logical way for the series to attract new players, it always has to be “we made it play like something else entirely” and it always ends up selling worse.
99% it means “more appealing to idiots”
Yeah, a lot of attempts at streamlining usually tend to end up being watering down the good content.
@GrapeSkoda woah woah woah, pokemon in its fundamental gameplay has gotten absurd over the years, but in an evolving way. Yes the core games are similar but the competitive scene is retardedly complex and changing
Yep. RIP Borderlands, the 3rd was made for impatient immature kids so now every enemy shits out legendries, it's unplayable, completely ruined what the series was about.

facts
When AAA game developers were gamers before anything, when it meant shit if the game wasn't fun.
Halo Reach is the worst Halo game to date, no doubt about it. More content? My ass LOL. It's story was over-all the worst as well, bottom of the barrel over-all.
Halo 4 had way more content to play and see then Reach did at all. Hell, Halo 4's forge alone was a slight improvement of Reach's, and it's custom game options were widely the same (besides some problems with the Infection game type that is)
The only problem with Halo 4 was that it had to many similarities to Reach, causing it to over-all die.

Yep. 343 aren't developers. They're marketers.
Disgusting lizardp people.
My mouth was hanging open when I saw that, stupidest idea ever. I hope everybody in that shot and the guy who came up with it lose their jobs.
I got really fucking sad when the 343 weapon skin section came. Then I got even sadder when I watched their loot box reactions. That isn't halo.
@@RossMitchellsProfile Im honestly not having much difficulty with the menus
Xbox One and Series X should allow Halo 2 and Halo 3 online multiplayer with the Xbox 360 discs. That would be life changing.
Halo reach is the greatest game ever created
Zach Hixson honestly I totally feel what you mean everytime I remember halo I instantly think bungie
After the utter mess and bullshit Bungie has done with Destiny 2, I think Halo is ironically in better hands now...
It's a shame Bungie is doing awful these days as well. Destiny 2 has been one disaster after another, even Halo 5 was better than destiny 2.
3-5 people moving from bungie to 343 is a lot of people?
I love the older video game industry. They truly cared about what they created and wanted their product to show it. Now it's just about the money.
Scoin0 same here
Scoin0 yeah no joke, the world is sick and greedy since dlcs have given way to season passes and micro-transactions
Old Bungie & Old Infinity Ward! We should bring them back to the industry! Lol they're probably all old but still could make a better game then these new publishing groups..
Scoin0 Not nintendo at least. they still make quality games.
Lol, love the editing
3:09 - 343 shows off great graphics for the promethean shit...
3:23 - Bungie talks about how graphics are worthless if its not fun to play (which defines prometheans perfectly)
Not in Halo is what they mean
They are a boring ass enemy, nothing fun about them, like the Grunts. But that's what games do now, is to have graphics over gameplay
Warren G The grunts are funny, and to some are cute looking. Unlike the Prometheans
Warren G suicide grunts are the best grunts. When they're close to you, you just go oh shit I'm dead. Peace.

+Nighterlev Reach being the worst? You're insane.
+Ryan Rosen What? It's just a bad game.
It should have stopped at Reach. The series came full circle, everything had its meaning.
I've been saying this exact thing for years. I swear i never feel the need to play 4,5 or halo wars 2 because 1 through reach all did what they needed to do. The only thing I could possibly say 343 did right was the artsyle in halo wars 2 because it popped like CE did.
@Dug Dug I'll be honest, I kinda forgot what the story was. It's been a while since I played it.
Stopped? Unless someone like 343 pulls a fucking deus ex machina and cures her rampancy while making her fucking evil for no reason at all except to piss off fans and stir up a shitty story *no one liked.*
ODST is a great example of how the series could have continued.

@Walshie Nightly Destiny Bungie has completely ruined the namesake. I miss Halo Bungie.
XD
@@BustermachineBungie was promoting their game, dude. They didn't brag and say it was the best rhing ever and it was gonna revolutionize gaming.
Bungie sounds way more critical towards themselves to push the game to its best form, while 343 are only complementing themselves..

@@BladePocok No surprise there. Making the Chief the focal point was never a good idea.
Can't believe we haven't had a Halo game in 11 years!
took me a moment to realize LMAO
Halo 4 was an amazing character study on chief tho

I love the footage of Marty and Staten watching the Betcha can’t stick it for the first time. Marty’s reaction and how Joe responds. Staten really is a good dude who understands the mission at hand. Make a compelling and fun game that millions will enjoy because at its core is a lot of heart and soul.
